Målaskog är ett naturreservat i Kronobergs län, dess rika lövskog är som en ö bland smålands barrskogar. Enligt rödlistan är Hasselmusen en fridlyst art i Sverige. Denna skygga och svår funna art kan man leta länge efter om man inte vet var man ska leta. Genom att lära sig om deras habitatskrav kan chanserna öka att hitta dem. Hasselmusen trivs i en sydsluttning med mycket sol och tätt buskskikt. Det var bland annat dessa förutsättningar som användes vid inventering hasselmushabitat i Målaskog. I samråd med skogsstyrelsen i Kronobergs län görs denna studie för att undersöka var i Målaskog det finns bäst möjlighet till hasselmushabitat. Det har registrerats fynd från 70-talet och framåt och den senaste studien gjordes i mitten av 80-talet. Eftersom hasselmusens habitat förändras mycket med tiden behövs regelbundna studier göras. För att bevara ett tätt buskskikt som hasselmusen kräver har förslag till skötselåtgärder upprättats. Resultatet visar att Målaskog har flera lokaler med potential för att hålla en hasselmuspopulation. Det behövs restaureringsåtgärder för att förbättra dem ytterligare och dessa åtgärder kan bland annat vara årlig röjning i lokalerna.

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka var i Målaskogs naturreservat som är bäst lämpat hasselmushabitat och vad som kan göras för att förbättra dessa lokaler.

Målaskog is a nature reserve in Kronobergs County. Their plentiful hardwood forest is an island in the otherwise dominant pinetree forest of Småland. According to rödlistan is the hazel doormouse a protected species in Sweden. This shy species are very hard to find and you can go a lifetime without noticing it. You can learn about their choice of habitat and improve the chances of finding them. The Hazel doormouse thrives in slanting hills to the south with high sun exposure and they like to have a dense shrublayer. It was especially these conditions that were used to the inventory of doormouse habitats in Målaskog. In consultation with the forestry Board in Kronobergs County, this study was made to see where in Målaskog, the best conditions for doormouses where. There are a few records of hazel dormouse living there in the past but their habitats change a lot over time so new studies needs to be made. To preserve a dense shrublayer that the doormouse requires, a restoration plan has been suggested. The result shows that Målaskog have a few habitats with potential of holding a population of the hazel doormouse. But they need some restoration to improve them even further and one example is annual clearances. The purpose with this study was to examine where in the nature reserve of Målaskog, where the best suited habitat for hazel doormouse and what could be done to improve them.
