Abstract [en]
Marketing researchers, and marketers alike, tend to have ambivalent attitudes towards pionners and challengers in a market. It seems that there are uncertainties as to whom is better equipped to succed in the long run. The uncertainty is even bigger when the market is charcterised by high entry barries. It is interesting to see what it is that motivates firms to enter markets with high entry barriers and what strategies are being used. Therefore we used the following problem statement, “Why do companies choose to pioneer respectively challenge on markets with high entry barriers, and how do these decisions affect their business behaviour and the market development as a whole”
