Abstract [en]
This MA thesis is based on Minor Field Study carried out in Nepal. The fieldwork was conducted within three different field sites in the country, two within the Himalaya region and one in the Kathmandu Valley. It focus on the Tibetan refugee population living in the Nepal and their of life. This deal with the centrality religious beliefs can have in peoples lives and for their identity. The Tibetans´religious beliefs are the essentiao base for the creation of own diskinct cultural and ethnic identity. It is on the religious thoughts and teachings they construct their reality, and act according to. My interest was focused on what role the Tibetan Buddhism have in their everyday life. For fifty years now, hundreds of thousands of Tibetan refugees have traversed the high Himalay range to escape from Chinise grip since the occupation of their native country Tibet. After the occupation, the people of Tibet can not follow and practice their religion in Tibet and live as the please, so the only opportunity to be free to do so is outside Tibet. The aim of my study has been to describe and analyze the Tibetans cultural and ethnical identity, and consequences of living in exils as well as meaning of their religion in their everyday practice.
