Abstract [sv]
Wind Power is a fast developing, renewable source of energy. It has neither carbon dioxide nor nitrogen oxide emissions which contribute to global warming and which have a negative effect on our health. It uses only the pure wind energy which surrounds us and therefore has no emissions at all. The energy repayment time for a Wind Turbine is short as 3-4 months. Therefore more and more countries are investing in this extraordinary source of energy. The new type of Wind Turbines which are being built are getting higher and higher and being placed in open countryside or out at sea where they are at the highest point in that area. As a result, they are most vulnerable to being struck by lightning and need good lightning protection against direct strikes. For our dissertation, we have chosen to look more closer at this and see how different wind power stations have solved this problem. What type of lightning protection and surge voltage protection is available on the market and which is best suited for Wind Turbines.
