This bachelor science thesis project for the institution CCA (Centre for Computer systems Architecture) at Halmstad University. They wanted to detect the crankshaft angle on a car (SAAB 9000), with high resolution. The main reason is that the crankshaft angle also gives the position on cylinders. A transmitter is placed right beside the crankshaft, whitch detect every 6 degree. With FPGA-technology, this resolution can be improved to 0.1 degree with 0.05 degree accuarcy. A Interface is created to adapt transmitter signals to digitalized levels. With VHDL-programming, the interface signal frequency is multipied with a factor 60. Program must continuosly check that accuracy is satisfactory.
