This project is an obligatory part of the education Biomedicine – physical training 60p, at Halmstad University and contains both theoretical and practical parts. All the practical parts have been performed at the training center Lokomotion in Karlskrona.
The project is about trunk stability which now adays is more common in every single training programme than it was just a few years ago. When bad posture and lower back pain is a big problem, we need to do something to prevent this. A strong and powerful core stability and increased core endurance will help us to prevent this problem. The purpose with the project is to try and evaluate a new equipment for training stabilization and se if the the static and functional strength in the trunk muscles can be improved. The new equipment is called Flowin and it is a rectangular plate (140x100cm) with pads. The body is used as weight together with the plate and pads. A test group got to perform training with the equipment Flowin that was supplied by the company Xendon AB. Tests were performed both before and after a training period of six weeks to be able to measure any possible improvements in strength and stability of the trunk muscles. Two of these tests measurs strenght and endurance in the trunk muscles and one tests measures the functional strenght in the trunk muscles.
The results showed significant increases both in core endurance and in core strength. The conclusion is that both the static and the functional core strength can be increased by training with Flowin.
