Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to explore preschool teachers’ personal experience

regarding their knowledge and ability to identify maltreatment of children.

Furthermore, the study examines how various factors influence the decision

to file a report of concern. The work is grounded in Alberts Banduras’

theory of reciprocal determinism which emphasizes the mutual influence of

personal, behavioral, and environmental factors. A mixed-methods approach

was used, combining qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with

quantitative data collected through a questionnaire. The findings indicate

that preschool teachers generally feel confident in their knowledge to

recognize and support maltreated children. The results highlight a strong

willingness among teachers to act in the best interests of the child. However,

the study also reveals that ethical and practical dilemmas may affect the

decision-making process regarding mandatory reporting. Additionally, the

importance of support from leadership and colleagues, as well as the need

for clear organizational structures within the preschool environment, is

emphasized. Ultimately, the study illustrates how preschool teachers’

experiences, knowledge, emotions, and working conditions collectively

shape their actions when responding to the needs of maltreated children.

Abstract [sv]

Albert Banduras teori Reciprok Determinism. Denna teori betonar hur

Slutligen belyser

studien hur förskollärares erfarenheter, kunskaper, känslor och arbetsmiljö

gemensamt formar hur de agerar utifrån barnets bästa.
