Abstract [en]

Sustainability has become an important consideration in the business world, and modern businesses are striving to transform their business models to become more sustainable. Most of the previous work on corporate sustainability is confined to the identification and development of sustainable business practices or highlighting sustainability archetypes, whereas managerial capabilities and skills facilitating the transition of business models towards sustainability have received little attention in the past. Further, most studies in the domain of sustainable business transition are confined to developed countries. This study aimed to identification of relevant skills that could enable managers and businessmen to facilitate the transition of a business model towards sustainability. Using qualitative interviews, this study has identified relevant skills that could enable managers and managers to successfully enact sustainable transformation of their businesses. These skills were segregated into four main skill types i.e., technical skills comprising operational skills, technological skills, knowledge sharing skills, procurement skills, and space optimization skills; managerial skills comprising management skills, marketing skills, high-order skills, and financial management skills; entrepreneurial skills relating to environmental scanning, business concept, and change management; and personal maturity skills relating to creativity, accountability, adaptability, and self-awareness. We believe that identification of these skills paves the path of future research in the domain of skill requirements for sustainable business transformation and helps the managers and entrepreneurs to learn relevant skills to enact sustainable business transformation
