ABSTRACTPurpose: This exploratory study aims to examine the divergent approaches to sustainable sourcing among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Sweden and Qatar, and analyze how institutional, cultural, and market factors shape the strategies. Methodology: A qualitative case study was selected with an abductive approach. The data collection was performed by semi-structured interviews with procurement leads of SMEs in Sweden and Qatar who have operations in the façade industry. The analysis method used was thematic analysis and a comparative analysis of regulatory compliance, supplier relations, market demand, innovation, leadership priorities, and infrastructurewas done. The research highlights Sweden’s proactive, systemic sustainability practices driven by stringent regulations, collaborative supply chains, and consumer willingness to pay a premium versus Qatar’s reactive, compliance-led model, where sustainability is often perceived as a contractual obligation rather than a strategic imperative. Analysis: The findings of this thesis confirm established literature on institutional pressures and market dynamics while offering novel insights into the role of client-driven mandates in emerging economies and the potential for hybrid supplier models in transitional markets.
