Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to examine how remote work has changed organizational culture based on experiences from individuals within the public and private sectors. The phenomenon of organizational culture is based on previous research, which describes organizational culture as: beliefs, shared meanings, assumptions, codes of conduct, practices, routines, and rituals within an organization, which are reflected in visions, employee attitudes and behaviors, as well as in the way the organization functions. To understand the problem area, the results are analyzed based on two theories: Schein’s (2010) three levels of organizational culture and Collins’ (2004) theory of interaction rituals. To answer the study’s aim and research question, a qualitative research approach was used, where seven interviews were conducted with individuals from both the public and private sectors. Of these seven, four worked in the public sector and three in the private sector. To analyze the results of the collected empirical data, a thematic analysis was used, where three main themes were identified. The results of the study show that individuals in both sectors perceive remote work as a limitation to organizational culture and that the culture is difficult to experience remotely.
