The present study comparatively analyzes four poems from the multimodal poet Olivia Sundberg and two of Edith Södergran’s classical works and two of her youth poems. The study is founded on the following research questions: What thematic connection, if any, can be found between the poets’ poetry and the imagery in their poetic writing? How can Swedish teachers use Olivia Sundberg’s poems, and her TikTok adaptations, as an entry point for teaching classic poetry? The present study observes that even though the initial feeling of Sundberg’s poems is uncomplicated, close reading shows a great complexity and a suitable framework as an entry point to classic poets such as Edith Södergran. The study also finds many similarities between Sundberg and Södergran’s poetry, both regarding thematical aspects as well as stylistic devices. The pedagogical implications indicate a variety of didactic measures that can be used and the TikTok adaptations provide a deeper understanding of the poems, albeit with an influence of music, body language and commentary from Sundberg.
