“Currently, there is a sense that the work could be carried out by anyone” : A Qualitative Study of Graphic Designers´ Experiences of the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Job Satisfaction (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The study aims to investigate how graphic designers perceive the impact of AI-tools on their work engagement and motivation, as well as to identify perceived challenges and opportunities associated with the integration of AI tools. The study was conducted using a qualitative research method with an abductive approach. The sample was gathered through a combination of snowball and purposive sampling. The empirical data was obtained through eight qualitative interviews and was analyzed using a thematic analysis. The results indicate that it is not the AI tool itself that influences work engagement and motivation, but rather it´s consequences. When the use of AI tools supports experiences of, for instance, social recognition, responsibility and opportunities for development, it promotes both engagement and motivation. When these aspects are limited, job satisfaction may decrease. The results also highlight that the key challenges associated with AI tools include technological pressure and demand for adaptation. The key opportunities identified include increased time efficiency and support in the ideation process. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the importance of addressing both intrinsic and extrinsic factors to positively contribute to job satisfaction. Moreover, the impact of AI tools is shaped by how users perceive their associated challenges and opportunities.
