Bakgrund: Massa- och pappersindustrin är en olycksdrabbad sektor, vilket ställer höga krav på arbetsmiljöarbetet. Organisationer finner det svårt att reducera antalet arbetsplatsincidenter, även när omfattande insatser tillämpats för att hantera olycksfrekvensen. Arbetsmiljöarbetet innefattar systematisk incidentrapportering, vilket bidrar med värdefull information som kan användas för att förebygga framtida incidenter. Incidentrapporteringsprocessen är dock tids- och resurskrävande för organisationer. Organisationsfilosofin Lean Management syftar till att effektivisera processer, inklusive administrativa processer. Lean principers tillämpbarhet för att hantera utmaningar i incidentrapporteringsprocessen har således undersökts.

Syfte: Syftet med fallstudien är att undersöka på vilket sätt Lean principer är tillämpbara för att hantera utmaningar i incidentrapporteringsprocessen inom skogsindustrin. Studien ämnar skapa förståelse för upplevda utmaningar genom att kartlägga incidentrapporteringsprocessen och undersöka olika aktörers upplevelser av densamma.

Frågeställning:

1. Vad för utmaningar kan identifieras relaterat till incidentrapporteringsprocessen?

2. På vilket sätt är Lean principer tillämpbara för att hantera nulägesanalysens utmaningar i incidentrapporteringsprocessen?

Metod: Fallstudien var av explorativ karaktär och intog en induktiv ansats, med abduktiva inslag. I studien används i huvudsak kvalitativa datainsamlingsmetoder genom intervju och fältstudie vid fallföretaget, men även dokumentanalys. Insamlade data analyserades tematiskt i syfte att skapa förståelse och uppnå studiens syfte.

Slutsats: Studiens resultat indikerar fyra huvudutmaningar i incidentrapporteringsprocessen, vilka innefattar identifiering av kund, slöseri i värdeflödet, otillräcklig återkoppling och uteblivet proaktivt säkerhetsbeteende. Studiens slutsatser visar att lean principer är tillämpbara för att i viss mån hantera utmaningar i incidentrapporteringsprocessen. Det framkommer dock att lean principerna inte är det enda som behövs för att lösa processens utmaningar. Studien resulterar i teoretiska bidrag och konsekvenser för praktiken för en säkrare arbetsmiljö.

Background: The pulp and paper industry has a high rate of occupational accidents, which places significant demands on occupational health and safety work. Organizations find it difficult to reduce the number of workplace incidents, even when extensive efforts have been applied to manage the accident frequency. Occupational health and safety work includes systematic incident reporting, which provides valuable information that can be used to prevent future incidents. However, the incident reporting process is time- and resource-consuming for organizations. The organizational philosophy of Lean Management aims to enhance the efficiency of processes, including administrative processes. The applicability of Lean principles to handle challenges in the incident reporting process was thus studied.

Purpose: The purpose of the case study is to investigate how Lean principles can be applied to address challenges in the incident reporting process within the forest industry. The study aims to understand perceived challenges by mapping the incident reporting process and examining the experiences of different actors.

Research question:

1. What challenges can be identified related to the incident reporting process?

2. In what ways are Lean principles applicable to addressing the challenges of the current situation analysis in the incident reporting process?

Method: The case study was exploratory in nature and adopted an inductive approach, with abductive elements. Qualitative data collection methods were mainly used through interviews and field studies at the case company, but also document analysis. The collected data was analyzed thematically to create understanding and achieve the purpose of the study.

Conclusion: The study results indicate four main challenges in the incident reporting process, which include customer identification, waste in the value stream, insufficient feedback, and lack of proactive safety behavior. The study's conclusions indicate that lean principles apply to some extent to handle challenges in the incident reporting process. However, it appears that lean principles are not the only thing needed to solve the challenges of the process. The study results in theoretical contributions and practical implications for a safer work environment.
