Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Within the field of accounting, sustainability reporting marks the greatest paradigm shiftsince double-entry bookkeeping. Generative AI is increasingly being used in sustainability reporting, yet little is known about how professionals experience and apply such tools in practice. This study explores how generative AI is used and perceived in the context of sustainability reporting. Through nine semi-structured interviews with professionals working with sustainability reporting, we examine how they leverage generative AI through tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot in various reporting tasks. To analyze how users perceive and engage with generative AI tools in practice, the study draws on key constructs from TAM2, including perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social norms, and prior experience. Results show that generative AI is commonly used for text processing, interpreting regulatory frameworks, and preparing presentation materials. Users generally describe the technology as helpful, especially in early drafting stages and for handling large volumes of information. However, perceptions of data quality and output reliability vary significantly, and concerns are raised regarding overreliance and risks of greenwashing. Generative AI is widely used across multiple aspects of sustainability reporting and is perceived as a valuable support tool, particularly for text processing, information structuring, and interpretation of regulatory frameworks, where organizational support, access to relevant documentation, and user competence are critical for its successful application. The study contributes empirical insights to a rapidly evolving research field and highlights the need for continued critical reflection and structured implementation in practice.
