Abstract [en]
Global warming and climate change are some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. Extreme weather events, such as heat waves, droughts, floods and storms, are becoming more frequent, causing widespread human suffering, economic losses and ecological destruction. This thesis examines how the EU's Green Deal is reflected in the Swedish parliamentary parties' climate and environmental policies, with a focus on multi-level governance as a theoretical framework. By analyzing the interaction between different political levels, the study examines how the parties' climate strategies are designed and how ideological dividing lines affect their relationship to the EU's Green Deal. The essay maps how the parties present their climate and environmental visions and how these reflect the EU's initiatives for sustainable transition. The analysis also highlights how political ideologies and values affect the parties' attitudes to climate policy and the EU's Green Deal, and how these views interact within the Swedish political context and the ongoing climate debate. The results show both coherence and conflicts between the different parties' positions in relation to the EU Green Deal, reflecting complex political dynamics at national and international level. The conclusion is that multi-level governance plays a central role in the formulation of Swedish climate policy, but that the ideological differences between the parties lead to varying interpretations and implementation of climate and energy measures.
