Nursing students experience of full-scale simulation related to patients with mental disorders : A general literature study (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Nurses have a central role in providing good care to all patients. Mental health care can be complex and it is common for patients with mental health to experience unfair treatment from nurses. The shortcomings that are highlighted in care of patients with mental health to experience unfair treatment from nurses. The shortcomings that are highlighted in the care of patients with mental health show that nurses need to be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of the subject already in their education. Purpose: The purpose was to shed light on nursing students' experience of full-scale simulation related to patients with mental health. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature study, where ten outcome articles were included from two databases. Results: The results were presented in four main categories: increased self-confidence, improved communication skills, knowledge and empathy. Implication/conclusion: Full-scale simulation was recognized as a positive technique in nursing education to contribute to change in the care of patients with mental health and self-development among nursing students. Further research is needed on how long the effect of full-scale simulation persists, what factors influence long-term effects, and how many times full-scale simulation needs to be performed to achieve the desired outcome in nursing students and registered nurses.
