2025 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The aim of the study was to investigate whether there are indirect effects between autonomy support and injury-preventive training through autonomous and controlled motivation among team athletes enrolled in Nationally Approved Sports Programs (NIU). The study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 169 youth athletes, aged 15–22 years, from various team sports participated. Based on previous research and SelfDetermination Theory, the following hypothesis was proposed: autonomous motivation mediates the relationship between autonomy support and increased adherence to injurypreventive training, while controlled motivation mediates the relationship between autonomy support and decreased adherence to injury-preventive training. The results showed a statistically significant indirect effect between an autonomy-supportive environment and injury-preventive training through autonomous motivation. However, no statistically significant indirect effect was found between an autonomy-supportive environment and injury-preventive training through controlled motivation.
