Experiences of the care of children with obesity : A systematic literature review (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Obesity is a global public health problem and poses significant health risks. Theprevalence of childhood obesity has increased significantly since the 90s. At the sametime, risk factors such as a sedentary lifestyle and increased intake of calorie-densediets have become more common. Treatment takes place according to the nationalcare program with a focus on adapting lifestyle changes through support from thehealth care system. The district nurse has an important role in identifying andimplementing health-promoting initiatives at an early stage. The aim was to mapexisting knowledge of district nurses' experiences regarding the care of children withobesity. The study was conducted through a systematic literature review that included17 articles. The results identify four areas: guidelines and routines, interprofessionalcollaboration and treatment options, health promotion and disease prevention, and therelationship between district nurse, children and guardians. The study's conclusionshows that district nurses' experiences, profession-specific knowledge and holisticview of children with obesity, as well as their guardians, constitute a valuableresource in healthcare. District nurses' opportunities to help children with obesitydepend on functioning interprofessional collaboration and adequate resourceallocation of time to meet the needs of children with obesity. This study can helpdevelop healthcare so that it can better support and treat children with obesity.
