Abstract [sv]
Abstract [en]
Sweden’s third largest beetle family is the ground beetle, Carabidae. An important family that also has been evidenced to be a prominent indicator, especially when investigating habitat qualities. In this study, an inventory of the ground beetles was made on the flood-meadow in Tåkerns nature reserve during 2023. The study was based on a previous masterstudy, that also did a similar inventory of ground beetles in the year 2000. The goal was to investigate whether you can find any difference in the species composition of ground beetles, the status of the ground beetle species between the year 2000 and 2023 and also if this can have any connections in the management plans that have been made in the reserve in the meantime. The results indicate that during the sampling period of week 20 to 25 in 2000, a slightly greater number of species were caught in 2000 than in the year 2023. The opposite results were of the individual numbers between the survey years. Moreover, the majority of the species 2023 were of small size (less than 10 millimeters). In comparison between the year's species, 64,0 % were common, 18,9 % disappeared and 16,0 % were added. There was a variation of the diversity of ground beetle species and individuals between the locations of the years, of which four of eight sampling sites exhibit the most spread and thus variation between all of the locations. The mean value for number of individuals and species differed between certain locations but also some had some similarities, for example location 5 Väverunda was a recurring location between the survey years with high average values for both species and individuals. Locations such as Hygnestad (6) had the lowest average values for both species and individuals in 2000, while Åsby (4) had the lowest average values for species and individuals in 2023. According to the Swedish red list, were there a few number of red listed species in 2000 and in 2023, but the majority had a least concern (LC) status between the survey years. The management plans that have been updated throughout the years have shown developing efforts for the restoration of the flood-meadows over the years, first from Tåkern becoming a nature reserve in 1975 to the latest plan in 2019. The conclusion of this study is that there have been changes between the years, both in the locations appearance and management according to management plans. However, there is not as much difference in the amount of species that have been found on Tåkerns flood-meadow in 2000 or in 2023 and in the species status. It is still important to continue to investigate what conditions these indicators have together with their flood-meadow because it takes a long time to see how the species actually react to how effective the environments are for their population growth. For the future, I recommend that one can continue to inventory Tåkern, so that increased knowledge can help with prioritizing the right restoration measures for the ground beetle in Tåkerns natureserve.
