Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The popularity of multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBAs) continue to rise and the player base steadily increases. People regardless of location dive into the virtual world to compete against each other in teams. Communication is an important aspect to increase the odds of winning by utilizing strategies and teamwork to achieve common goals. This communication is not without its flaws and players are often faced with harassment that manifest in different ways within the game. The most common way for these harassments to manifest is through non verbal communication. The purpose of this study is to investigate potential design solutions that could provide more effective communication between players and actively work against the toxicity that players face. To answer our research question and create a deeper understanding of the positive and negative aspects of the current systems in place a qualitative study has been conducted with experienced League of Legends players. The participants' answers regarding current systems for communication and systems to counteract toxicity provided us with four categories of design proposals that could provide better communication and reduced toxicity. These proposals for improvement are presented in the summary
