Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Depression är en vanligt förekommande sjukdom som drabbar var femte person i världen. Att leva med depression har en negativ effekt på patienters livskvalitet och aktivitet i det dagliga livet. Fysisk aktivitet används som en omvårdnadsåtgärd för behandling av depression. Syftet: att beskriva patienters erfarenhet av fysisk aktivitet vid depression. Metod: Examensarbetet genomfördes som en allmän litteraturstudie. Tre databaser användes för artikelsökningen, samtliga databaser är av relevans till området omvårdnad. Sökningarna resulterade i tio resultatartiklar som analyserades och granskades utifrån bedömningsmall. Resultat: Tre huvudkategorier identifierades; (I) fysisk aktivitet vid depression resulterar i en förbättrad hälsa genom att förbättra välbefinnande och lindra symtom, (II) fysisk aktivitet vid depression resulterar i förbättrad egenmakt genom att påverka självförtroende och förmåga att hantera depression, och (III) fysisk aktivitet vid depression underlättas av externt stöd såsom socialt stöd från vänner, familj och sjukvårdspersonal samt påverkas av miljön. Konklusion: Fysisk aktivitet har en positiv effekt på hälsa och egenmakt och underlättas av externt stöd hos patienter med depression. Fysisk aktivitet kan användas i omvårdnad för att hantera symtom och förbättra livskvalitet. För att integrera fysisk aktivitet i behandlingen av depression är det viktigt för sjuksköterskor att identifiera hinder och stödja patienter i behandlingen.

Abstract [en]

Background: Depression is a common illness that affects one in five peopleworldwide. Living with depression has a negative impact on patients’ qualityof life and activities of daily life. Physical activity is used as a nursingintervention for the treatment of depression. Aim: To describe patients’experiences of physical activity in depression. Method: The thesis wasconducted as a general literature review. Three databases were used for thearticle search, all relevant to the nursing field. The searches resulted in tenarticles that were analyzed and reviewed. Results: Three main categorieswere identified; (I) physical activity in depression results in improved healthby improving well-being and relieve symptoms, (II) physical activity indepression results in improved empowerment by affecting self-confidenceand the ability to manage depression, and (III) physical activity in depressionis facilitated by external support as social support from friends, family andhealthcare workers and is affected by the environment. Conclusion: Physicalactivity has a positive effect on the health and empowerment and facilitatedby external support in patients with depression. Physical activity can be usedin nursing to manage symptoms and improve quality of life. To integratephysical activity into the treatment of depression, it is important for nurses toidentify barriers and support patients in their treatment.
