Titel: Intressentengagemang vid hållbarhetsrapportering: en kvalitativ studie om hur företag kan främjas av att engagera intressenter i rapporteringsprocessen.

Problemformulering: Hur kan företag främjas av att engagera intressenter i arbetet med hållbarhetsrapportering?

Syfte: Syftet med studien är att beskriva vilka intressenter företag engagerar i arbetet med hållbarhetsrapportering. Vidare syftar studien till att förstå hur företag kan främjas av att engagera intressenter i rapporteringsprocessen.

Metod: Studien har en abduktiv forskningsansats med en kvalitativ forskningsmetod. Den empiriska studien baseras på fallstudier som utgörs av kvalitativa intervjuer och dokumentstudier av hållbarhetsrapporter. Den analysmetod som används i studien utgår från uppsatsens egenkonstruerade analysmodell och en kvalitativ innehållsanalys i form av induktiv kodning.

Slutsats: Studien visar att företag tenderar att engagera interna intressenter i större utsträckning än externa intressenter i arbetet med hållbarhetsrapportering. Vidare visar studien att intressenters engagemang i arbetet med hållbarhetsrapportering leder till en förbättrad hållbarhetsrapport, ökade krav och förväntningar från intressenter att arbeta mer med hållbarhet och att hållbarhet blir ett viktigare ämne för företag.

Title: Stakeholder engagement in sustainability reporting: a qualitative study about how companies can benefit from engaging stakeholders in the reporting process.

Research question: How can companies benefit from engaging stakeholders in their work with sustainability reporting?

Purpose: The purpose of the study is to describe which stakeholders companies engage in their work with sustainability reporting. Furthermore the purpose of the study is to understand how companies can benefit from engaging stakeholders in the reporting process.

Methodology: The study has an abductive research approach with a qualitative research method. The empirical study is based on case studies that consists of qualitative interviews and document studies of sustainability reports. The method for data analysis that is used in the study is based on the thesis’ own analysis model and a qualitative content analysis in terms of inductive coding.

Conclusion: The study shows that companies tend to engage internal stakeholders rather than external stakeholders in their work with sustainability reporting. Furthermore the study shows that stakeholder engagement in sustainability reporting results in an improved sustainability report, increased demands and expectations from stakeholders to work more with sustainability and that sustainability becomes a more important subject for companies.
