Social Media in the Rebranding Process : How companies include external stakeholders in the rebranding process using social media (English)
Abstract [sv]

Samtidigt växer sig sociala medier in alltmer i vardagen bland företagens externa intressenter.

Abstract [en]

Rebranding is a process that most companies have done or will go through. Rebranding involves a change in the existing brand and can be done in several different ways. In today’s society, social media is becoming an important part of companies and their external stakeholders. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate and gain a deeper understanding of how communication with external stakeholders via social media can facilitate the work and improve the results of a company’s rebrand. This was to investigate how negative criticism can be minimized in connection with a rebrand. The study has investigated if social media is used in rebranding by companies today as well as what opportunities there are to implement social media into the rebranding process. The reader will receive a good understanding of the subject, relevant theories are introduced in the theoretical frame of reference. Three companies that have done a rebrand are interviewed on the subject, which the reader will find in the empirical presentation. After a well-proceeded analysis of the empirical presentation in relation to the theoretical frame of reference, it appears that none of the companies included social media in the early stages of the rebranding process. However, all the company respondents represented in this thesis believe that social media should be part of the rebranding strategy. The companies did not include external stakeholders during the early stages of the process, only at the final launch of the new brand.
