Abstract [sv]

Distributed Multimedia Application is a system for displaying distributed presentations and advertisement. The system is built on client-server architecture to distribute the multimedia from a central server to remote clients. The system uses a well defined language for displaying the presentations, SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language). To allow the customers to manually edit their presentations and to lower the costs the system is administrated using a web interface. For optimization of the performance and reliability of the system the data is stored locally on the clients before showing. The system is mainly developed using Java for the server and Delphi for the client. For video rendering the system uses a Microsoft DirectX library called DirectShow and for additional graphics rendering it uses Microsoft Windows graphic functions. Some limitations of the rendering have been made to keep the development time at a reasonable level. To store information about customers and presentations the system uses a MySQL database. The system was developed in cooperation with Slottsmöllans Fastighets AB and Nissan Data AB.
