Abstract [en]

The essay is about code-switching (the alternate use of two or more languages in the same utterance or conversation) in the speech of four American Swedes. Furthermore, the project is concentrated on discourse markers which include four sub-groups; linkers, fillers, tags and flags (including words and utterances like and, no and you know). These groups are first dealt with separately in order to find out which one is the most frequently used within the group and then put together in a final conclusion to see which group is the most common. These calculations are also compared with other studies to see if the four informants fit into a certain pattern or if they happen to be exceptions in the way they deal with code-switching.
