Abstract [sv]

Our assignment was to half the production- and the material costs, to approximately 400 Sek, for a balise. A balise is a plate, 536x400x12 mm, which is placed on the railway. It contains an internal antenna and an elctronicbox, which is attached on the plate. The balise is a part of ADtranz (co-operation between ABB and Daimler-Benz) safety system EBICAB 700. The balise has been made with the same old bad method since 1978, which means that a huge potential of development existed, to lower rhe costs. The plate is supposed to be used all over the world, which means that the demands for the balise are rigorous. We contacted Sonoform AB, in Tranås Sweden, because we lacked knowledge in materials and productionmethods. Sonoform was very helpfull and they sid that they could solve our problems. They offered to make the plate with the methos SMC (Sheet mouling compound) and with the material REMEL (Reinforced Melamine Compund). This concept resulted in minor changes according to the design of the plate.
