Abstract [sv]

Women with a first myocardial infarction: critical incidents related to social support and networks. Social network and social support is considered significant for health promotion. Complete lack or scarcity of these components appear to contribute to development of myocardial infarction. The aim of the study was to describe the social network and social support for women subjected to their first myocardial infarction. Six women in the range of 30-90 years were interwiewed and desc ribed critical incidents related to their social network a nd the support before and after being ill with myocardial infarction. Sixty-two incidents were analysed using the Critical Incident Technique and the conclusion reached was that women who fell ill with their first myocardial infarction had a social network while their social support exposed shortcomings. Besides emotionel support there was a lack of instrumental aid, service and appraisal. After falling ill a similar lack within social support still existed while an increased need for information was noted. Either the woman influenced the quality of her network and support or she made no changes at all after the myocardial infarction. In future reseach it would be interesting to compare care and recovery in female myocardial infarction patients before and aftr education of health care professionals in social network and support.
