    Abstract [en]

    This paper aims to highlight the importance of external relations and the qualitative elements of dialogue for the development of SMEs. This is achieved by using the metaphor of learning networks as a base for facilitating inter and intra organisational company development. The paper draws on a five-year field study, where the emergence and workings of inter-organisational networks were followed from a participant perspective with special emphasis being placed on the outcome for SMEs of participating in a learning network. The focus of these networks was on experience exchange and joint knowledge creation, as well as business relations. A significant outcome of this inter-organisational networking was the sharing of knowledge and visions on how to work on development combined with an emphasis on the role of external relations for internal company development, i.e. the possibilities of using networks as a development tool. These relations have also proved to be an effective medium for sharing experience and enhancing mutual trust among the participants. It has been particularly effective in sharing tacit knowledge and creating new management perspectives. Results from the study indicates that SMEs can use the learning network as an alternative form of organisation for development, where managers from different companies, together with researchers, form an ad hoc ''development group'' to compensate for internal lack of resources.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to create a better understanding of the strategic management behavior of top managers in small, fast-growing manufacturing firms.

    Design/methodology/approach: Empirical data have been collected in Sweden through both a survey of the 100 fastest growing small firms during 2000 and the development five years after (2001-2006), as well as through structured observations of the working days of top managers in six fast-growing manufacturing small firms.

    Findings: Managers in small, fast-growing manufacturing firms are engaged in many different activities. However, a few activities tend to take the majority of their time. These activities are either operational (for instance, activities related to production, marketing and sales) or administrative (for instance, activities related to the firms’ personnel and to financial issues). Looking at the managers’ activities from a strategy management point of view, they spend very little time on strategic activities. This finding may explain why firm growth in many cases declines or even ceases.

    Originality/value: The paper contributes to the theoretical and empirical literature on strategic processes in small, fast-growing manufacturing firms by showing that the majority of their managers use a “simplistic strategy”. Such a strategy may imply that these managers find it difficult to alter their originally successful operational and administrative behavior in order to develop their firms. Such managers are “stuck” in a path dependency mindset, even though the growth of their firms requires that they adopt a more flexible management strategy.

    Organising University-Led Learning Networks Among Small-Enterprise Managers2001Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    This thesis elaborates upon the use of a university-led approach to facilitated learning through organised networks of small-enterprise managers and researchers. The opportunity for universities to take on an interactive role in initiating development processes, and even regional change in a wider respect, has been explored through an action research (AR) approach. One of the aims of the University-Led Learning Network (ULLN) is to develop the knowledge and managerial skills required by small-enterprise managers in order to cope better with an economic and social reality that is difficult to survey and to predict. This was done through the ongoing review and evaluation of actions carried out within as well as between the participating companies. Different management perspectives were scrutinised in an environment of close co-operation, with the intention of generating new ideas for action. ULLN is also an approach that enables the university to fulfil the task of co-operating with the external world, which in Sweden is referred to as "the third task", and to reach out to small enterprises, creating a common learning partnership. Earlier studies of networks focusing on an exchange of knowledge and learning demonstrate, above all, the power of innovation that come from a close relationship between companies and universities and the importance of dialogue. The analysis of this study shows similar results. However, there has in the past been a lack of long-term studies which monitored and investigated the effects of co-operation from within. This study aims to rectify that deficiency.

    In this thesis, it is argued that ULLN has unique advantages, such as the initiation and support of important processes of change, which are not equally matched by other approaches, such as those which depend on consultants, traditional education or purely industrial networks. ULLN should therefore be seen as an important complement to the development support structure for managers of small traditional manufacturing enterprises. This study contributes an understanding of the process of organising these networks, and an analysis of the type of learning developed through such lengthy co-operation over six years.

    The results of the study can be divided into three categories, namely:

    1. Implications of organising ULLNs for universities and researchers, by providing an understanding of the advantages of using the university as a platform for initiating development processes for small-enterprise managers in networks.

    Considerable knowledge and experience were gained during the study of the organisational requirements of continuous development processes, in order to generate and extend learning between small-enterprise managers and university representatives in a ULLN. Results from the study acknowledge the importance of the university adopting different roles during the process, in order to build the trust and commitment necessary for facilitating innovative and creative dialogue within the networks. Another important point that is highlighted in the study is the importance of the university and small traditional manufacturing enterprises meeting halfway in interdependent relations. For the university, this means taking on new roles, and for the small companies, a willingness to learn and to co-operate with other companies and organisations in networks rather than acting alone.

    This type of close interaction with companies gives university representatives a better knowledge base of small traditional manufacturing enterprises (which make up the majority of the small-business community in Sweden) and their special needs, which in turn contributes to a deeper understanding and makes it possible for the university to introduce research projects that are more relevant and draw small enterprises into a co-operative partnership with the university. The networks are a way of increasing mutual knowledge processes by enabling managers and researchers to examine a variety of development issues and solutions in the company of others who have different frames of reference and perspectives.

    2. A description of the effects of the ULLN in the participating companies in terms of development projects initiated.

    The thesis further supports the conclusion that learning in small enterprises is stimulated by interaction with other organisations. New ideas and the inspiration for development work are created in meetings between different actors. As a result of this partnership, projects have been developed internally within individual companies and between the participating companies - for instance in issues related to IT, improved working practices, employee exchanges, ISO 14 001, and so on. Practical lessons have been learnt about different ways of handling various company-related problems, as well as theoretical knowledge about the processes of change themselves. Thus the ULLNs have both initiated important changes and acted as a bridge between the university and SMEs during development work. Through this medium, the university has been able to establish links even with the traditional manufacturing small-enterprise community.

    3. A description and analysis of the learning process that is created by using the network concept as a development tool.

    The trustful relationships established between managers and researchers have proved to be an effective medium for sharing experience and enhancing mutual learning. It has been particularly effective in providing a basis for the sharing of explicit and tacit knowledge that is required to support the implementation of different development projects. The ULLN approach has also facilitated a more reflective type of learning (double-loop learning) and created new management perspectives, which have inspired further development. Managers have also become more "secure" in their management role (as a result of the frank and confidential dialogue with different actors in and through the network) and have, for example, experienced a greater ease in delegating and contributing to the empowerment of their employees.

    In this paper, a unique development in a network of small enterprises is presented and discussed. This is the creation of a network of employees that, in the first phase, had a function in parallel with the network of their managers, and which, over time, has led to tighter integration, by means of incorporating more employees in development work. The importance of trust and dialogue will be highlighted as well as the significance of both explicit and tacit knowledge. Finally, attention will be drawn to this network structure as a form of inter-organisational empowerment of employees. This is an extended and modified version of a conference paper that was written by Marieke Hoekstra, Max Lundberg and Joakim Tell for the 5th Annual International Conference on Post-compulsory Education and Training, Queensland, Australia, 26-28th November, 1997.

    In this study, we link discussions about management development in small firms to the work environment of small business managers. In particular, our aim is to examine management development as an experiential process carried out in daily managerial practice. Using structured observations of managerial work, we found that small business managers operate in work environments with rich opportunities for learning. However, we also found that various and unexpected interruptions and problems typically fragment their workdays. In addition, such managers lack peer support and guidance and have few external interactions and little internal communication. As a result, small business managers find themselves in a learning dilemma that, in the long run, may limit their creativity and innovation. Based on these empirical findings, we draw conclusions about support for work-based management development in small firms.

    Describes how the network concept could be used as a development method and to overcome some of the barriers for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to initiate and work with sustainable development questions. The study has been done in close co-operation with managers and employees from small enterprises, where the ISO 14001 work has been initiated and supported through the network, using each other and the network as an arena for joint reflection, support, and as a resource pool. The result from this study indicates that a university-driven learning network makes a difference in the development work of SMEs – as a source for inspiration, in initiating and working with development projects, for reflection, and as a sounding board, and through its effectiveness in acting as a large organisation.

    Purpose

    Because the business model is a fairly new concept, research is lacking on business model innovation in certain industry sectors. One such sector is the agri-food sector. Using a systematic literature review of peer-reviewed journal articles published from 1990 to 2014, this paper examines the where, when, and how of the use of business models and business model innovation in the agri-food sector.

    Design/methodology/approach

    A web-based search was conducted to identify peer-reviewed journal articles that contained a combination of “business model” or “business model innovation” with agriculture-related and food-related terms (e.g., “agri-food sector”). After winnowing out irrelevant and duplicate articles, 505 articles were chosen for analysis.

    Findings

    Using categories, the paper analyses various data about the selected articles. The categories include research settings, units of analysis, methodologies, and theories. Based on this analysis, the paper finds that these agri-food sector articles are primarily qualitative, empirical studies that focus on one or a few companies (i.e., case studies). The paper also finds that theory is not yet well developed in the research on the agri-food sector.

    Originality/value

    Systematic literature reviews of various concepts, theories, and models are common in many fields (e.g., information/software technology, healthcare, and organizational management). However, no such review is available for the agri-food sector, in particular in its use of business models and business model innovation. This paper addresses that gap with its review of relevant articles published in more than 300 journals in recent years. Based on this review, the paper draws conclusions about business model innovation in the agri-food sector and offers suggestions for future research. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited

    Abstract [en]

    European Groupings of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) are a legal instrument intended to facilitate institutional cross-border cooperation. Launched in 2006, EGTC creation was particularly swift in East Central Europe, albeit with significant variation between different border regions. The article adopts an organizational ecology perspective to explain this variation and argues that the level of organizational density inside a cross-border ecological niche is crucial for EGTC creation. The analysis draws on policy documents and semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders from four border areas in East Central Europe. It finds that lower levels of organizational density in unitary states constitute a favourable organizational environment for EGTC creation. However, rather than enhancing autonomous decision-making in the border region, we find evidence that unitary state support for EGTC creation reflects a political strategy to centralize control over cross-border cooperation. © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

    Purpose: Our purpose is to describe how companies communicate in social media to build and strengthen their brands and to describe the purpose of the communication in social media. Our purpose is also to increase our knowledge and understanding of how companies build and strengthen their brands through social media.

    Method: This thesis has a qualitative method with a deductive approach in which three case studies are studied. The companies have high knowledge in the given topic and work active with social media.

    Theoreticalframework: This part of the thesis begins with traditional communicationtheories followed by communication in social media. The part ends with a comprehensive theory about brands with leads to a model which summarizes our theoretical framework.

    Empiricalframework: In this part the results of the interviews with the three Case studies are presented.

    Conclusion: The study shows that companies build and strengthen their brands in social media through different activities. Depending on the companies purpose it chooses a social media to communicate in.

    Case studies are widely used across a lot of different subject areas, however there are a lot of questions about the use of it because of the doubt in its’ contribution to science and the quality of it. The purpose with this research paper is to define the case study and the characteristics required in it for it to be classified and recognized as a “good” case study. Findings reveal that case study is defined in many different ways depending on the area of subject it is presented in. A good case study is reliable, valid and is used as a qualitative research method and it contains a lot of depth in the investigated single case.

    Syftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka hur Business Region Skåne och Business Region Göteborg strategiskt kommunicerar och gestaltar innovation via video och vad som förmedlas om innovation och vilken bild det förmedlar om regionerna. 

    Metod och material: I studien har kvalitativ metod använts och fyra videor publicerade på Business Region Skånes och Business Region Göteborgs digitala videokanaler har analyserats genom multimodal sociosemiotisk analys samt tre intervjuer har genomförts med kommunikationsansvariga om videorna. 

    Huvudresultat: Det kan konstateras att Business Region Skåne och Business Region Göteborg kommunicerar och gestaltar innovation genom att använda berättelser i videorna om komplexa innovationsområden utifrån framtidsvisioner. Innovation gestaltas på ett okomplicerat och uttrycksfullt sätt varvat med faktastrategi samtidigt görs regionerna attraktiva. Videorna förmedlar fördelar om olika innovationsområden som har betydelse för människors vardagsliv samtidigt som videorna genom att skapa engagemang i kommunikationen lyfter upp aktuella problemområden i förhållande till innovation i samhället. Resultatet visar genom den multimodala sociosemiotiska analysen att gestaltningen av innovation i videorna i sig är komplex.

    The current financial crisis has left its mark. It has even hit the major Swedish banks who have shown large losses. The media has not been slow to take note of this, and the constant political debate about the bonus culture has been reinvigorated. Our aim is to find out how the major Swedish banks relate to the publicity and describe how and why senior executives are rewarded, and what strategies banks are using in the design of their reward system to maintain a legitimate behavior, and thus the confidence of its stakeholders.

    As a starting point to answer our purpose we have used the agency theory that describes our view of how various problems occurs and how incentives can be established in order to get senior executives to act for their owners' interests. Modern theories of reward systems are taken from a variety of authors, these theories give us an insight into how reward systems can be designed in banks. The final piece is to get insight into what legitimacy might look like in our society. In this area there were a couple of different researchers who were influential in our study.

    We have chosen a qualitative study. In our opinion, a study based on interviews and words is necessary so as to get as close to the truth as possible. In this way we can discover whether or not the banks take into consideration mass Media attention and incorporate a reward system into their strategies. We have interviewed individuals with expertise in the subject, at the bank's HR department. It's mostly where our empirical data is collected, but we have also supplemented this with secondary data.

    In conclusion, we have, among others, found that major banks are taking account of the mass Media debate. They try to participate in the debate, communicate and be open with their reward systems. Clarity is crucial, especially for systems acceptance, among the bank's customers. Having the confidence of its customers is central to the banking business. Thus, banks' teaching ability is the biggest challenge, to maintain legitimacy in the reward system in relation to their stakeholders.

    Abstract [en]

    “Killmiddag” is an initiative launched by the equality foundation Make Equal, with the purpose of engaging men in gender equality issues. Based on this, the intention of this study was to increase knowledge and understanding of how masculinity is created within the context of Killmiddag. Our aim was also to find the reasons why men choose to participate, as well as how they deal with possible conflict between the norms within, and outside of, the Killmiddag forum. The empirical material was collected through nine semi-structured interviews and was analyzed using the following theories; R.W Connell's theory of masculinities, Richard Jenkin's theory of social identity, Erving Goffman's theory of impression management and Anthony Giddens’s theory of reflexivity. The result shows that men’s motivation to participate in Killmiddag is sparked by a desire to change current masculinity norms, and that this is partly due to the MeToo movement. It also shows that Killmiddag plays an important part when it comes to the participants’ personal constructions of masculinity, this mainly as it is a context that allows them to express parts of their identity and show emotions that normally are not accepted within male forums. In addition, the result brings light to a split between different situational masculinity norms, which can cause conflict between an individual’s self-perception, masculinity standards and the need for others’ approval. In regards to this, three different strategies for managing these problems were found: to challenge and change the norms, adapt to the given situation or purposefully surround oneself with like-minded people.

    From a social psychological approach, our aim with this study is to take advantage of student health care and support business activities and cooperation in a secondary school in a medium sized city. Using a qualitative method, we have conducted six individual interviews, one pair interview and an experiment. We have used the following theories: Group Psychology (Svedberg, 2007), the potential space (Winnicott, 1993), Youth of the future crisis (Cullberg, 2006), the concrete and abstract sociality (Asplund, 1987), the telling force (Crafoord, 2005), Emotion theory (Scheff, 1990). With these theories, we have tried to highlight difficulties, and provide an understanding of how the student's position in the school environment looks like and how to work within, and cooperation, student health care and support operations against a good student health appears. We have in the present study found that some types of problems and difficulties of student attention while others are forgotten. The fundamental problem at work against a good student health is society: a society where resources for the psychosocial well-being in the secondary world are not a priority.

    Styrelsen är ett bolags främsta styrorgan med ansvar för flera strategiska funktioner, såsom övervakning, disciplinering och finansiering, med målet att säkerställa att företagsledningen agerar i enlighet med bolagets vision och aktieägarnas avkastningskrav. Omfattande kapitalstrukturbeslut kan kräva styrelsens godkännande innan de förverkligas. Detta kan innefatta valet om bolaget ska använda sig av interna eller externa finansieringskällor, vilket påverkar kapitalstrukturen/skuldsättningsgraden.

     

    Tidigare studier har bl.a. undersökt hur styrelsesammansättning påverkat bolagets kapitalstruktur. Studier har påvisat att styrelsestorlek, styrelsens oberoende, medelålder och kön påverkar kapitalstrukturen, där studierna har utgått från pecking-order och trade-off teorierna Traditionellt har bolagsstyrelser återspeglat sig av en homogen sammansättning, avseende variabler som ålder, kön, etnicitet, vilket bidragit till eniga affärsbeslut. Studier som undersökt utbildning, erfarenheter och expertis (humankapital) bland styrelsemedlemmar har fokuserat på bolagets finansiella prestation och innovationsförmåga. Dock finns det ingen studie tagit hänsyn till humankapitalets påverkan på kapitalstrukturen.

     

    Syftet med studien är att analysera styrelsemedlemmars humankapital och deras påverkan på bolagets kapitalstruktur för bolag listade på svenska börsen. Genom att använda en deduktiv ansats och kvantitativa data är målet att få svar på syftet. Teorier om kapitalstruktur, såsom pecking-order och trade-off, samt teorier om styrelsens egenskaper, upper echelon och resursberoendeteorin har använts. Därtill har hypoteser formulerats, där kvantitativa data inhämtats från årsredovisningar och empiriskt operationaliserats.

     

    Resultatet och slutsatsen av studien är att humankapital hos styrelsen har en påverkan på hur kapitalstrukturen ser ut bland bolagen. Studiens resultat påvisade att humankapitalet bland börsbolagen kan påverka kapitalstruktur både positivt och negativt. Slutsatsen är att humankapitalet i bolagsstyrelser följer trade-off teorin gällande finansieringsvalen, d.v.s. styrelsemedlemmar balanserar för - och nackdelar för att nå en optimal kapitalstruktur.

    The refugees suffered both in Europe and Sweden in recent years and has made

    integration work in the municipalities to become an important part of their work to include new individuals in society.

    The purpose of this essay is to highlight how the integration of immigrants looks in different municipalities in Sweden and the aims is to demonstrate the importance of being included in the community at an early stage. The study is qualitative and with the help of our interviews we interpreted the material.

    We processed the material based on the theories Elias & Scotsons established and outsiders and Bourdieu's social capital and Ahrne & Papakostas about organizations and the study shows that there are difficulties with prejudice and rumors, social capital and organizations and policy essential for inclusion in society. The material showed both positive and negative ways on how municipalities work with integration and inclusion of immigrants. Our study suggests that municipalities are working intensively on integration, but they are at different levels over all. It turns out that there are a minor co-operation between the organization Immigration Service and the municipality, which may result in a lower integration of the immigrants.

    Technology intermediaries are seen as potent vehicles for addressing perennial problems in transferring technology from university to industry in developed and developing countries. This paper examines what constitutes effective user-end intermediation in a low-technology, developing economy context, which is an under-researched topic. The social learning in technological innovation framework is extended using situated learning theory in a longitudinal instrumental case study of an exemplar technology intermediation programme. The paper documents the role that academic-related research and advisory centres can play as intermediaries in brokering, facilitating and configuring technology, against the backdrop of a group of small-scale pisciculture businesses in a rural area of Colombia. In doing so, it demonstrates how technology intermediation activities can be optimized in the domestication and innofusion of technology amongst end-users. The design components featured in this instrumental case of intermediation can inform policy making and practice relating to technology transfer from university to rural industry. Future research on this subject should consider the intermediation components put forward, as well as the impact of such interventions, in different countries and industrial sectors. Such research would allow for theoretical replication and help improve technology domestication and innofusion in different contexts, especially in less-developed countries. © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

    The primary aim of this paper is to demonstrate how technology transfer between universities and rural industries in developing countries can be achieved effectively, using independent research and advisory centres as intermediaries. It draws on a longitudinal action research study, which experiments with the process of nurturing and bridging communities of practice amongst recipients of technology and stakeholders concerned with technology diffusion, productivity and economic development. Its empirical evidence is from an academic-related, non-government intervention initiative targeting two small-scale industries, namely fish farming and coffee production, in the Cauca region of Colombia. Results demonstrate how barriers to transfer can be overcome. The interventionist considered as instrumental; its key components and outcomes are discussed in detail. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.     Background-Football has gone from being a hobby to a professional commercialized industry where economics play an increasingly important role. A football club works with several dimensions of success. First and foremost the sporting success which could be football clubs table position or number of titles. Then there is financial success, such as the financial position of footballclubs. It is reasonable that these dimensions of success should interlink as the economy sets the framework for which players/coaches the football clubs can recruit, while sporting success should generate a higher commercial interest.

    Purpose-Explore whether there is a connection between sporting success, in the form of table position, and selected key performance indicators.

    Theory-The theory chapter begins with general theory regarding net sales, equity and cash flow as a measure of success. This is followed up with a section about sports management. Then the rules of Allsvenskan are explained by the corporate form and the voting majority regulation. Thereafter, the earlier research is described using previous studies that examined the link between sporting and economic success. The theory chapter is then concluded with hypotheses.

    Method-A quantitative study was conducted using data from the annual reports of football clubs participating in Allsvenskan to make correlation and regression analysis in SPSS Statistics. Other secondary data have been obtained from scientific articles, literature and web pages.

    Conclusions-The conclusions from this study are: There is a connection between the table position and the net sales for a football club participating in Allsvenskan. There is a connection between the table position and the equity for a football club participating in Allsvenskan. There is no connection between the table position and the cash flow for a football club participating in Allsvenskan.

    Purpose: How Chinese people behave toward French Luxury Brands?

    Method: This paper is built on a deductive approach following three main hypotheses. Secondary datawere retrieved from books, studies and articles found in Halmstad library and several databases.Moreover, primary data were also collected through a questionnaire; which shapes the major lines ofour conclusions.

    Theoretical Framework: The frame of references follows our three hypotheses. First, the culturaldifferences between France and China are highlighted through concepts such as: Hofestede culturaldimensions, Mezirow’s theory and Guanxi. Then, the Mianzi philosophy and the flying geeseparadigm are used to support the hypothesis that brands could be used as social markers. Finally,several theories about the country-of-origin effect are used to analyse the image of French products in China.

    Conclusion: The authors conclude that French luxury brands are considered on the Chinese south-eastcoast as a mark of high quality, prestige and fashion. These features partly motivate their purchasingdecision, whereas the country-of-origin itself is not a convincing argument. These brands, usuallyexpensive, are nowadays perceived by Chinese as a way to emphasis their wealth and thus socialstatus. This behaviour shows a growing individualism toward French luxury brands ownership in acountry historically ruled by collectivism. The contributions and further studies possible are finallyestablished at the end of this paper.

    related to health, the environment, societal safety and economy. In short, we live in a society that is in need of innovation and new ways of thinking. In this context, information technology (IT) and digital service innovation have important roles to play. This is reflected in the work done with national and international agendas for digitalization as a path to offer citizens new types of services. This includes digital services that make the work of health professionals easier, raise patient safety, improve health care, make vehicles safer, lower maintenance costs and the impact on the environment. To meet the challenges of the future with innovation, there is an increased need for expertise in sustainable digital service development.

    In this talk we report from the work of designing a curriculum for an international master program “Digital Service Innovation”. The program addresses the need for digital competence in tomorrow’s society. The curriculum fronts digital innovation and digital services as fundamental concepts (Fichman et al., 2014). In short, a digital service innovation, for example, can lead to new experiences, distribution methods, business models, types of interaction, and digital services that enhance the value of physical products. The meaning of digital service innovation in this context is the design of new, significantly improved or previously untested combinations of digital services; services that create new and sustainable values. Thus, there is an emphasis on value creation (Henfridsson et al., 2018) meaning that the proposed education draws on sustainability (economic, social and environmental) as a framework for value creation and progression of critical thinking (Ågerfalk et al., 2017).

    For students, formal higher education is a valuable investment for a career in the IT labor market (Setor and Joseph, 2016). The curriculum is designed, through the introduction of new pedagogical approaches, and through sustainability as a perspective on digital service innovation, to contribute to future competence provision. Digitalization is an important driver companies’ competiveness. The developments in digital technology alter the labor market’s competence requirements and causes a complex and multifaceted services sector. In Europe, it is at present estimated that one million people with IT skills are missing in the European labor market. The curriculum is designed in collaboration with companies, engaging in the planning, development and implementation of the curriculum, in order to help to ensure its relevance to the students and the industry.

    Abstract [en]

    Information systems development (ISD) and innovation is a complex and challenging endeavor. In this paper we inquire into the process of ISD andinnovation to shed light on the ambiguous nature of such processes. This was done in an interpretive study of 10 governmental ISD projects where 14 interviews with key persons were conducted. In addition 11 interviews with senior IT consultants were conducted. Based on this study we propose an analytical lens to understand ISD and innovation. This lens is based on a metaphor grounded in the empirical material. This metaphor, fragmentation, mediates a deeper understanding of ISD and innovation regarding three aspects of complexity: knowledge, culture and discourse, and time and space.

    Denna studie handlar om hur det mörka kulturarvet i Västra Götalands län definieras, värderas och levandegörs inom ramen för museal verksamhet. 100 tjänstemän fick en enkät med flera slutna och öppna svarsalternativ som bearbetades kvantitativt och kvalitativt. Resultaten visar att den övervägande delen av respondenterna instämmer i att det mörka kulturarvet förknippas med (1) krig, konflikter och oroligheter, (2) epidemier, sjukdomar och pester samt (3) svält, hårt liv och lidande. Det förefaller inte vara lika tydligt att gravstenar, begravningsfält, kyrkogårdar och katastrofer hör hit. Det mörka kulturarvet har en betydelse för att få en nyanserad och helhetlig bild av historien. Det ger förståelse för samhället i ett dåtida och nutida perspektiv. Några betonar också att det är viktigt för att vi inte ska glömma det obehagliga, traumatiska och hemska. Kulturmiljövården som grundas i olika typer av källor förmedlar kunskap genom berättelser, film, utställningar, föredrag, rapporter och skrifter. Den övervägande delen av respondenterna anser att det förgångna återges på ett objektivt och neutralt sätt men en del betonar att dåtiden skönmålas. Endast ett fåtal menar att dåtiden mörkas/dramatiseras.

    Abstract [en]

    The project “Digital techniques for participatory city planning processes” increases the understanding of digital techniques for expanding the public involvement within city planning. Four different levels of citizen involvement could be applied within participatory processes. Information involves information from authorities to citizens. Consultation is associated with meetings where authorities listen to citizens but they do not have to take their opinions into consideration. Partnership means collaborative processes where citizens formulate strategies in cooperation with authorities. Mobilization denotes actions initiated by citizens within the civil society. The poster illustrates approaches, methods and products for E-participation, E-government, Web Collaboration and online forums. It also introduces tools for the collecting and exhibiting historical and more current data. The digital tools for participatory planning processes are structured in four groups: tool for (1) structuring ideas, (2) communication, (3) cooperation between the public sector and civil society and (4) collecting and exhibiting data.

    Mörk turism handlar om resande till destinationer med attraktioner, platser och utställningar som förknippas med döden. Det anknyter också till krigsturism kretsat kring besöksmål där museum om konflikter och oroligheter är centrala. Med andra ord handlar det om att besöka negativt laddade kulturvärden med anknytning till politisk-geografiska dimensioner.

    I de flesta stater finns en historia som vittnar om konflikter, oroligheter och strider. Denna rapport belyser på vilket sätt detta arv levandegörs idag för turister, dagsbesökare och historieintresserade individer. Vidare problematiseras värderelaterade och etiska aspekter kopplat till dessa utställande verksamheter. Texten ger också exempel på konkreta besöksmål i olika delar av världen med fokus mot Sverige. Härtill kommer att diskursanalytiska aspekter kopplat till frågan om hur det mörka kulturarvet förmedlas lyfts fram. I detta sammanhang utvecklas frågan om hur konflikter speglas och vilka dimensioner av det förgångna som levandegörs.

    En sammanfattande konklusion är att det militära kulturarvet har såväl positivt som negativt och neutralt laddade värden. Hur levandegörandet av det militära kulturarvet förhåller sig till etiska dimensioner avgörs av vilket teoretiskt perspektiv diskussionen tar sin utgångspunkt i.

    Det argumenteras för att diskursanalys kan användas som redskap för att förstå hur makt formar det kulturarv som vi tar del av och hur sanningar konstrueras. Sådana analyser av kulturarv bidrar med förståelse för att det inte är något objektivt och neutralt. Arvet skildras utifrån en specifik kulturell kontext.

    En socialt hållbar turismutveckling grundas i platsens unika värden samt lokalbefolkningens perspektiv och utgångspunkter. Bakom varje synsätt på utveckling ligger ett visst värdesystem som består av normer, värderingar, attityder och beteenden. Platsparadigmet utgår från att platser bör utvecklas utifrån sina respektive geografiska förutsättningar. En annan utgångspunkt är den humanistiska människosynen som fokuserar människan och hennes behov. Planeringsmetoder för lokalt deltagande är i regel uppbyggda utifrån tre så kallade generella faser. Inledningsvis kartlägger deltagarna nuläget och därefter formuleras målet med arbetet, det kan till exempel röra sig om att formulera en framtidsvision. Sedan diskuterar deltagarna sig fram till en åtgärdsstrategi om hur det tidigare formulerade målet uppfylls. Att inkludera lokala aktörer i turismutveckling innebär att den lokala kunskapen tillvaratas. Denna är bunden till kontexten där den är producerad och är endast säkert giltig i det geografiska området. Den överförs från generation till generation.     In the farmed land in Sweden we find seminatural grassland, which is among the most species- rich landscapes. Farmers play a crucial role in landscape for preserving and enhancing biodiversity, since these lands are results from the interaction between farmer and nature. This poses a challenge to form policy measures that pay attention both to qualities in the physical landscape and to the inhabitants. Consequently, local perspectives and recourses are central points of departure in planning for their future management. 

    The poster presents implications for policy strategies on the basis of research on local views and capacities. Group interviews and action research have been carried out in two different areas in Western Sweden.

    The findings show several difficulties in the interaction between the administrative system and local actors, due to differences in landscape perspectives. Strategies, which mainly are based on an ecological view, get into conflict with farmers practical understanding of the landscape they cultivate. Furthermore, rural people have the capacity to seek their own solutions, and local knowledge as well as social capital are essential resources. One conclusion is that future landscape policies ought to contain less detailed regulations, and instead promote awareness and local responsibility.

    Genom destinationsmarknadsföring konstrueras bilden av platser som används i till exempel reklam för att attrahera turister och besökare. Centrala moment innebär att lyfta fram unika karaktärsdrag och förmedla den till olika målgrupper. Det övergripande syftet med föreliggande arbetsrapport är att öka kunskapen om hur den hållbara turismen inom Sverige marknadsförs. Analysen grundas i en kvalitativ tolkning av webbmarkandsföring av hållbar turism genom organisationen Visit Sweden. Resultaten visar att representationer av den hållbara turismen tar sin utgångspunkt i olika rumsliga sfärer. Turism som sker i fjällen och de vackra naturområdena ses självklart som en form av hållbar turism. Aktiva semestrar på färd över Sveriges vattendrag räknas också hit. Även städerna, som med sitt rika utbud och variation, gör det möjligt att forma vistelser enligt ett hållbarhetsideal inkluderas. En förutsättning för den hållbara turismen är ett fysiskt nätverk som möjliggör hållbara kommunikationer och aktiviteter.

    During recent decades, opinions about how nature should be protected by the public sector have changed. One result is a better awareness of the important role that local actors play in the preservation of valuable areas. The overall aim of the thesis is to increase the understanding of preconditions for bottom-up approaches within nature conservation planning of cultural landscape. The research issues touch upon: (1) the significance of strategies which are based upon the landscape perspective and the capacities of local actors, (2) the capability of participatory processes and (3) the abilities of decision makers to promote a planning system which is better adapted to the local level.

    The theoretical framework describes bottom-up approaches on the basis of research concerning participation, democracy, planning, rural development and landscape. It is concluded that local participation is complex within representative democracy, but is advocated in the interactive planning theory which deals with communicative rationality and social learning. It has also an important position in research of local mobilisation where the assumption is that planning processes should be carried out upon the initiative of those concerned.

    The research has made use of a diverse methodology. Interactive- and action-oriented research has complemented questionnaires and interviews. The investigations focused primarily on the municipalities of Orust and Munkedal in Western Sweden but other areas were also involved. Both local actors and managers within the public sectors took part.

    The results show that bottom-up approaches imply an emphasis upon the specific landscape which humans experience with all their senses and transform through daily actions. It also refers to efforts which are formulated on the basis of insights into the specific community and the context in which landscape values exist. The major driving forces are social capital, entrepreneurship, commitment and the capacity to represent public interests. Participatory processes may contribute to the preservation of aesthetic, heritage, biological and recreation values in the landscape on the bases of local conditions. The study further indicates that it is possible to incorporate bottom-up approaches into the planning system if the normative preconditions exist, i.e. societal support for a larger degree of decentralized work and participatory processes. Comprehensive structural changes, as well as practical efforts, are thus needed to expand social interaction between the authorities and local actors.

    Går det att uppfylla Nollvisionen inom en överskådlig framtid när det gäller cyklister och fotgängare? Och vilken roll spelar egentligen miljöpsykologi och den fysiska miljön för att påverka människans beteende i trafiken? Dessa frågor ställer sig Kristina Thorell vid Högskolan i Halmstad. Hon konstaterar att trafikbeteende kopplat till riskbenägenhet är ett komplicerat område där flera olika faktorer spelar in, men också att människan tenderar att inta ett mer vårdslöst trafikbeteende i miljöer som innefattar låga risker, än i de med höga. Thorell menar vidare att sociala aspekter kopplat till normer och värderingar inom olika samhällsgrupper är värt att beakta i trafiksäkerhetsarbetet eftersom de påverkar människans riskbenägenhet.

    The presentation transfers theories and previous research on local participation in community development to the university sector. It expands upon the motives, hindrances and methods of participation in the university sector, and the opportunities participation provides for social and collaborative learning. Results indicate that social and collaborative learning processes integrate not only scientific or professional knowledge, but also different types of place-, relation- and process-related capabilities. Capabilities related to place include a knowledge that is linked to a specific society and shared among most residents there. It includes insights into the distinguishing characteristics of the culture, society and the business sector. Capabilities related to relation (otherwise referred to as social capital) include trust, cooperation and reciprocity. Capabilities related to processes include those that emerge when a group is undertaking a progressive work, such as social and collaborative learning.
