    Abstract [en]

    Development and modernization takes place all the time and everywhere in today's society.

    Although we handle and slices hard cheese in the same way that we did decades ago. The way

    we handle cheese nowadays is not only unhealthy, but can also be a difficult moment for

    some people.

    The goals to develop a functional, modern and food-approved kitchen tool adapted to today’s

    society are the main factors for this bachelor thesis. Along with stakeholders for the project,

    the requests and demands set up for the prototype progressively have been worked out. Wellknown

    methods and market surveys have been used to ensure the need of the product.

    Researches in relevant subjects have also shown that the market is in need of a new product.

    The product called CASEUS has after studies shown to have a broad target group. The name

    CASEUS, came from the Latin word for cheese (Caseus) and from the English word case, as

    the product will be like a case around the cheese. The kitchen tool is designed with a simple

    mechanical solution, in a hygienic material. The handle is designed according to EU: s

    standard dimensions for handles. Therefore, it is considered suitable for the majority of the

    population in Sweden. Thus, there is a market for the product both at hotels and restaurants, as

    well as in private households.

    In the final stage of the project a prototype of CASEUS has been produced by Havd Group,

    which is a stakeholder in the project. The prototype has been funded by a scholarship and

    contributions from ALMI Business partner.

    To be able to continue with CASEUS after the end of the project, new possible working paths

    have been investigated. With promotion, more scholarship or a collaboration with an existing

    manufacturer in the industry, the project team hopes to be able to get CASEUS out on the

    market.

    Abstract [en]

    The goal for this project, carried out with directions from Cimco Marine AB, has been to design a concept construction for a “log strike” testrig for outboard motors. Cimco Marine AB has developed a diesel powered outboard motor mainly for professional use. The diesel engine used is an engine from the automotive industry that has been converted for marine use. The engine is located on a gearbox and underhouse that transfer the power via two belts down to the propeller.

    A “log strike” occurs when a boat with an outboard motor runs over a log floating in the surface of the water. When this happens a collision between the part of the outboard motor under the waterline and the log is a fact. To ensure that the outboard motor manufactured by Cimco Marine AB manage the loads a high speed log strike produces, they want a test rig to test this. One can compare this test with the crash tests performed in the vehicle industry.

    In the beginning of the project, time was spent on research and information gathering. It was then decided that the rig should consist of a sled that is propelled against the underhouse of the outboard motor. After this, the project was split in smaller units and every unit was considered separately before they were put together again as a whole. The construction project has followed the design method developed by Fredy Olsson.

    The end result is a concept design of a “log strike”- test rig, adapted to the requirements set up by Cimco Marine AB.

    The purpose of the thesis has been that in cooperation with Sweden today's leading distance and ecommerce,Skåne Byggvaror AB, construct and design a modern and cost effective sliding doorsystem with thermal breaks in the category 'best'. Skånska Byggvarors business idea is to offercustomers the right quality at the right price with free delivery to the door. Today the companymanufactures 4 of 5 sliding door systems themselves and only the "best" model is manufacturedexternally. The goal of this project is the result to be good enough so the new system will be able toreach the company's production in Bjuv and then sold at Skånska Byggvarors website and in theirstores around the Skandinavien.The outcome of the project was a product of consensus with the company's business concept thatmet the specifications and offered little thereto. After being in contact and requested bids fromdifferent suppliers, it could also be said that the company could increase the product's annualearnings by about 4 million by producing and introducing our new sliding door systems.

    The report describes the thesis that the students along with the company Bonesheart made on agenre of motorcycles called cafe racers and its sub genres.It's a project about the procedures in the making of several design concepts for these kind ofmotorcycles. All the way from brainstorming to the final result.The report describes how the members of the project proceeded with the methodology they learntfrom their education and how they partly developed and established their own approach in thedevelopment of the motorcycle concepts.Because it is a genre of motorcycles that has not been affected by this type of work before, thegathering of information has been a big part in the beginning of the project.A survey was mailed to 140 motorcycle clubs, which gave the project a good starting point.It is critical for this kind of project that there is an understanding of the subject and that you cantake advantage of the knowledge gathered to get a good results.The results presented in this report have been designed from a design methodology that takesadvantage of several factors. For example, the restrictions given by the company that wasinvolved in the project and answers from the survey.With a wide range of sources to retrieve information, the result has been designed to whatbecame the concept of four motorcycles.

    Abstract [en]

    Product Development (PD) in Small and medium-sized Firms (SMEs) is a long-neglected research area, and little cumulative work has been conducted previously. The purpose of this paper is to provide a first overview of the area of PD in SMEs. In doing so, we draw upon a sample of 149 peer-reviewed research papers selected from an initial sample of 5694 papers. The review provides tentative answers to issues such as the analytical and methodological approaches of the papers, which topics or areas of research have been focused on by previous scholars, and what kinds of topics that are well covered.

    We performed our thesis at SCA Hygiene Products in Falkenberg. Our task has been to present a suggestion for a solution of the packing of giveaways that the company uses.In the current situation the work is performed manually, and the company wants to automate the process. In the following report, we present the different solutions that we have developed in our definite model. It includes a picking solution, a shaking table and trays. The product choices we have made are based on existing solutions.To help, we have used Fredy Olsson's books in principle and primary structure. From this, we’ve taken help in the methods we have used.

    The project was carried out together with OC Off Course who manufactureand distribute mainly electric bikes.In today’s society, alternative sources of transportation becomes more andmore present and several bicycle sharing programs arises in major citiesacross the world every year.Something that doesn’t exist too much as of yet is bike sharing programsthat uses electric bikes. An electric bike is a convenient way oftransportation as well as a good way of avoiding traffic. With an electricbike you avoid having to sweat when biking over hills or when you need totravel over longer distances.The goal of this project is to develop a bike sharing station according tothe functions need to be met.This thesis Is based on Fredy Olsson´s methods principkonstruktion aswell as a couple of concept generating methods from Kenneth Österlin.From this, a number of sketches were made that later was evaluated inseveral steps in conjunction to a set of specifications. A 3D model of theselected concept was later made in CatiaV5 for a complete product.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis we have looked at the possibility of using a rover for deployment of lunar interferometers on the dark side of the moon. This project was made together with two other groups at Halmstad University. The project was divided into three units and we had the main responsibility for the deployment unit on the rover.

    The deployment unit of the rover is the device that will pick up, carry and roll out the antennas, which is a thin film 1x100 meters rolled up as a roll. The device must work in cooperation with the other units so that the antennas are deployed in a safe and controlled manner.

    The background of this project is to create a better understanding of the universe, its origin and how it still continues to change. This is made to believe possible by using lunar interferometers that will collect radiation from outer space. The lunar interferometers are placed at the dark side of the moon so that the radiation we humans create will not affect the results.

    This thesis is issued in collaboration with Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in

    Pasadena, California. JPL is a world leading designer and manufacturer of space-related products. At the time being JPL has 22 spacecraft and 10 instruments conducting active missions.

    The focus in this project was to develop a conceptual design of a rover able to deploy the lunar interferometers. The result is a concept created in a 3D-enviroment.

    Abstract [en]

    This report present a thesis carried out in the spring semester of 2016 at the University of Halmstad. The work has been done to obtain a college degree in mechanical engineering and awards 7,5 credits.

    The work was done together with the constituent and mentor Zaheer Ahmed Mohammad, industrial designer at Halmstad’s Rubber Factory which manufactures most of plastic products. Their business area spreads from mining and construction industry to industrial products. HGF has a total of six business fields and we will work with the company's automotive department.

    The aim of this work was to develop fundamental design ideas for a rubber mat for cars that might be used by an Asian car company. A total of 8 design ideas were introduced where each design contain a "story line" that is related to the vehicle, which is the requirement from the company. These designs will at a later stage undergo a critical review based on its appearance and design resulting to only 2 designs will be presented to the car company.

    The work began with a survey to get an overview of how the respective designs look at the various car companies. The market investigation has also generated inspiration for our design. To customize our work for our needs and requirements, a design and construction methodology has combined to obtain the desired solutions. The software that has been used during this thesis is CatiaV5, KeyShot, InDesign and Adope Photoshop CS6.

    Abstract [en]

    In Schwaz, Austria, there is a company developing energy solutions and all-terrain vehicles, i.a. the Ziesel. The wheelchair users, who constitute an estimate of a third of all customers, are attracted by the Ziesel particularly because it doesn’t look like a wheelchair. It also helps them enjoy all the benefits from getting out into the nature. However, the structure of the frame gives this customer group a challenge to enter the Ziesel, as the seat is situated both high up and far into the Ziesel. Because of this position of the seat and obstructing elements on the Ziesel, it will be problematic to choose an optimized angle between the wheelchair and the seat at the transfer moment. Because of the current frame structure of the Ziesel, the company does not have a lot of possibilities to make the transfer easier for wheelchair drivers. The goal of this project is to develop an appliance that would ease entering their vehicle for wheelchair users.

    The project is divided into two parts, creating a requirement specification and developing several concepts. The requirement specifications were written after taking consideration to the company, user and customer criteria. Relevant input and feedback was gathered through meetings and surveys directed to wheelchair users. Multiple concepts have been developed and sent to Mattro, some of them good from a user perspective and some from a time, effort and budget friendly perspective.

    A requirement specification and four concepts, of which two are recommended, are presented as a result of this project.

    During this project, a thorough study has been done to examine which transfers are easy or hard to practice to and from a wheelchair. With the results from this project, more people that did not have this opportunity before can take part of and enjoy nature. This knowledge will make a great difference in future development of new products and vehicles for Mattro.

    Abstract [sv]

    I denna rapport presenteras ett examensarbete där syftet är att komma på en lösning till ett båtpentry där kunden som köper båten ska kunna anpassa sitt pentry med att välja olika kombinationer på vad kunden själv vill ha i sitt båtpentry. Arbetet har utförts tillsammans med uppdragsgivaren Christian Dejevik, konsult på C Dejevik Engineering AB där han konstruerar fritidsbåtar för modern båtproduktion. Han i sin tur har fått uppdraget från Nimbus Boats Sweden AB där jag har suttit på deras kontor i Göteborg och arbetat med projektet. Examensarbetet har i sin tur genomförts på Högskolan i Halmstad under våren 2016 och omfattar 7.5 högskolepoäng. Målet med detta projekt är att utifrån det valda konceptet ta fram en lösning till Nimbus problem gällande kundanpassningen på båtpentryt som ska kunna passa in i en ny nimbusbåt. Produkten ska i sin tur designmässigt passa in i båten och med den resterande inredningen som redan finns så att hela båten bildar en helhetskänsla där kunden ska känna sig som hemma. Arbetet inleddes med ett möte med uppdragsgivaren där idéer bollades för att så tidigt som möjligt komma på lite olika idéer på hur man snabbt och på bästa sätt skulle kunna komma vidare på detta projekt. Under projektets gång så har en konstruktionsmetod använts vilket har lett projektet framåt i rätt riktning. En prototyp i datormiljö har skapats i programvaran SolidWorks där produkten även anpassats tillsammans med den resterande båten. Renderingar har gjorts i SolidWorks och Keyshot 5. Photoshop har använts för finjusteringar på bilderna. Några av de färdiga ritningarna som kan användas vid en eventuell tillverkning är bifogade i rapporten.

    This report will discuss principle, primary and finally manufacturing structure. We were asked to produce a 3D milling to processing the prototype material that is used on the University of Halmstad. From conceptual drawings to produce components for this project have we together with a number of company take developed the right components for this project. We have calculated and analyzed the construction to get the best result for it purpose. Unfortunately have the process to produce the 3D milling has been stopped because of deficient budget and time. We are going to produce the 3D milling mechanical as long as the budget and the time allow. The University of Halmstad will have completed drawings and all of the documentations of the project to complete the 3D milling when the time is right.

    Purpose of this Master’s thesis is to compare the use of two alternative materials in the building the flooring of a bus. Currently the floors of Carrus Delta buses are built using plywood. Carrus Delta Oy wants to investigate the use of ready-made glass fibre elements instead of plywood elements which are custom cut at their factory in Lieto, Finland.     In a research project on the development of process technology in process industry, success factors have been developed and ranked by R&D managers in various sectors of the European process industry. The results are presented in two parts, of which this is Part 1. As an introduction to this part, a new classification system for success factors in R&D is developed and the final discussion in Part 2 presents a model for company implementation. The empirical results stress the importance of good technology transfer in the process development process. The results can also be seen as a shopping list and a starting point for in-company development of success factors and performance indicators for process development.

    In a research project on the development of process technology in process industry, success factors have been developed and ranked by R&D managers in various sectors of European process industry. A new classification system for success factors in R&D was developed as an introduction in Part 1, and the discussion in this paper presents a model for company implementation. The empirical research results give an emerging picture of a development area, a development process and a type of development behaviour that differ markedly from product development and the product development process. The results can also be seen as a shopping list and a starting point for in-company development of success factors and performance indicators for process development.

    Abstract [en]

    The goal of the project was to design a product that Eleiko lack in their assortment, stackable jerk blocks for training of olympic weightlifting and also for gym and fitness. The goal was achieved using Fredy Olssons primary- and principle-contruction method mixed with Eleikos own working methods. The practical work began with a couple of smaller brainstorming periods followed up with basic assessments. A lot of the steps in Fredy Olssons method had to be repeated to produce our results. Different types of wood specimens have been researched as well as the possibility to use a sandwich construction. Experiments have been done to understand the bounce and fatigue of different materials. All the requirements have been achieved with a unique design inspired by anthopometry. This has led to two main advantages compared to competitors, namely the reduced weight and the height adjustments. A physical prototype has been manufactured and will be carefully evaluated by Eleiko after our project has ended, before it can be released to the market.

    Abstract [en]

    Sports cars need efficient brake cooling as they shall perform well during hard driving conditions, like for example race track driving. Most sports cars use ducts that capture ambient airflow and directs this flow over the brakes to improve the cooling. This project was conducted in cooperation with Koenigsegg Automotive AB and aims to develop more efficient brake cooling ducts for their cars.  Computational Fluid Dynamics was used to analyse the convective cooling of the brake disc and the pads. First was the cooling with the previously used ducts analysed in order to establish a reference.  Then new concepts were created, analysed and developed in an iterative process.  A design is proposed, which have the inlet in the centre of the wheel axle and that directs the air through radial channels to the brake disc. The simulations indicate that the proposed design results in 14% higher heat transfer rate compared to the previously used cooling solution.   In addition to the cooling ducts, some passive cooling devices were also simulated. Simulations with these in combination with the proposed design, indicate up to 25% increase in heat transfer rate, but this cannot be fully confirmed due to limitations in the simulation model.

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

    To analyse how differences in decision-making affected the integration of the R&D functions after Ford's acquisition of Volvo Cars.

    Design/methodology/approach

    The analysis is carried out in two steps. Step one analyses which type of approach Ford employed to integrate Volvo into the company. Step two analyses how R&D decisions are made by both firms and the consequences of found differences in decision-making on the success of the integration process.

    Findings

    Ford's approach to the integration of Volvo Cars follows a symbiosis approach, combining a high need of both organizational autonomy and strategic interdependence. A symbiosis acquisition integration approach demands that the decision-making processes are given special attention. The acquired firm's specific decision-making processes need to remain intact in order to preserve its embedded unique R&D value creation capabilities. The decision-making processes should be kept separate in order to prevent disruption.

    Originality/value

    The paper relates theories about firm acquisition processes and aspects of organization theory to establish a bridge between these research areas.
