    Abstract [sv]
    Arbetet tar upp problematiken kring att användbarhet inte är tillräckligt representerat i systemutvecklingsprocessen RUP. Syftet var att kartlägga en arbeteprocess och utifrån den ge rekommendationer om hur användbarhet kan integreras i processen. Vår teoretiska referensram bestod av litteraturstudier,artiklar från ACM,IEEE samt informationssökning på Internet. Studien innefattade fyra kvalitativa intervjuer på samma företag. Detta för att kunna kartlägga deras arbetsprocess och använda den som utgångspunkt. Vi intervjuade även en användbarhetskonsult för att tillsammans med teori kunna ge konkreta förslag på användbarhet i processen. Det visade sig att det fanns brister i kommunikationen,dels mellan användare och utvecklare men även mellan utvecklare i olika discipliner. Orsak till brister i IT-projekt är att de inte lever till användarens förväntningar. Det är därför fundamentalt att den förväntade nyttan kartläggs tidigt i processen för att uppnå avnändbarhet. Nyttan bör sedan placeras innanför projektets ramar angående tid och budget. Användbarhet ska inte figurera son en isolerad del i processen,utan den ska på ett narturligt sätt influrera hela arbetsprocessen. I slutsatsen ger vi förslag på hur anvädnbarhet kan integreras i arbetsprocessen. Några av förslagen är att skapa en effektkarta,mälgruppsanalys samt använda prototyper på ett tidigt stadium. Dessa förslag utvärderades av Sigma Pleon för att uppnå klarhet i vilka av förslagen som är praktiskt möjliga.

    Abstract [en]

    An important part at companies that’s manufacturing industrial machines is to provide training for the machines end-users such as daily machine operators and technicians, in order to give them a good understanding about how the concerned machine works. At these kinds of trainings it’s very important that the training material used to train the users provides a high user-friendliness.

    The goal with this thesis is to improve the user-friendliness of an existing training tool for a specific training course from the projects client. The training course that’s going to be improved is currently using a hardware-based simulator that’s used to manually simulate processes at a certain machine.

    The result was a solution in shape of a software-based simulator with associated graphical user interface. The user can thus within safe circumstances simulate the concerned machines behavior through a PC-program and e.g. create emergency situations without putting the users safety in danger.

    Fast Layer-3 handover in Vehicular Networks2009Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Wireless communication is of great importance for safety and entertainment purposes in vehicular networks. Vehicles on roads are required to share sensor data, road traffic information or digital maps with other vehicles on the road. To be able to do this, vehicles require to either communicate directly with each other or to be connected to a wireless communication-based access points on the road side. These wireless access points support short to medium range wireless communication through the protocol 802.11p. 802.11p is designed specifically for vehicular communication and it is an amended form of the widely used 802.11 protocol suit for wireless local area networks (WLAN). Vehicles are able to be associated with these wireless access points for exchange of information. While vehicles move along the road infrastructure, they change their point of attachment from one wireless access point to another wireless access point. During this process, connectivity to the access point breaks down until the vehicle is connected to a new access point in its area. This disconnection causes an interruption in the data flow. This interruption increases when vehicle requires a new IP address, i.e. when the vehicle is going to attach to an access point which is part of another network. In this thesis report, we give an overview of standard handover methods and their enhancements and propose a fast handover scheme for layer 3 of the communication stack. Based on the assumption that vehicles know their route in advance, we enhance the handover process and improve seamless connectivity. We also discuss different issues which are the cause of delay and how they can be overcome in our proposed solution.

    Abstract [en]

    Real time applications over IP network became widely used in different fields; social video conference, online educational lectures, industrial, military, and online robotic medical surgery.

    Online medical surgery over IP network has experienced rapid growth in the last few years primarily due to advances in technology (e.g., increased bandwidth; new cameras, monitors, and coder/decoders (CODECs)) and changes in the medical care environment (e.g., increased outpatient care, remote surgeries).

    The purpose of this study was to examine and analyze the impact of IP networks parameters; delay, jitter, throughput, and drop packet on the performance of real-time medical surgery videos sent across different IP networks; native IPv6, native IPv4, 6to4 and 6in4 tunneling transition mechanisms and compare the behavior of video packets over IP networks. The impact of each parameter over IP networks is examined by using different video codecs MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4.

    This study has been carried out with two main parts; theoretical and practical part, the theoretical part of this study focused on the calculations of various delays in IP networks such as transmission, processing, propagation, and queuing delays for video packet, while the practical part includes; examining of video codecs throughput over IP networks by using jperf tool and examining delay, jitter, and packet drops for different packet sizes by using IDT-G tool and how these parameters can affect quality of received video.

    The obtained theoretical and practical results were presented in different tables and plotted into different graphs to show the performance of real time video over IP networks. These results confirmed that video codecs MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4 were highly impacted by encapsulation and de-capsulation process except MPEG-4 codec, MPEG-4 was the least impacted by IPv4, IPv6, and IP transition mechanisms concerning throughput and wastage bandwidth. It also indicated that using IPv6-to-4 and IPv6-in-4 tunneling mechanisms caused more bandwidth wastage, high delay, jitter, and packet drop than IPv4 and IPv6.

    Abstract [en]

    Tiny Timber is a very lightweight, real-time kernel for small, event-driven embedded systems.  It implements reactive objects as a way of structuring embedded software. These objects are components that react to incoming events by updating their internal state and issuing an outgoing event. Implementing a control system based on reactive objects enhances the reactivity of the system and it helps to optimize the energy consumption, as the system goes to sleep mode when there is nothing to react to. It is also a programming technique that facilitates the organization of the program.

    In this project, we develop a device driver for radio communication with a Tiny Timber interface. This is an extension to the Platform for Intelligent Embedded (PIE) system which is a robot assembled and used at the IDE department of Halmstad University as a platform for developing new applications as well as for educational purposes in the area of embedded and intelligent systems.  The interface is programmed in C and consists of a collection of device drivers for different components of PIE in the form of reactive objects.

    Abstract [en]

    We have investigated two devices for detection of radiation, typically in the infrared range, Photons are absorbed in an active region of semiconductor devices such that the absorption induces inter band electronic transitions and generate photo-excited charge carriers. A photocurrent is generated between the conducting contacts through the active region of the devices. We worked on infrared photodectors based on nanowires. This type of photodectors can be used for optical communication and to detect atmospheric pollution by absorption of the polluting molecules in the infrared region (0.7µm-1µm).

     

    In this project we have used Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy to study and compared the photoresponse of two different types of interband nanowire infrared photodetectors 8samples 6080 and 6074). Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy is a measurement technique that allows one to record infrared spectra in all wavelengths at then same time. The basic task was to compare and analyse the electrical and optical characteristics of these two detectors at different temperatures (78K-300K) corresponding to the wavelength.

    The thesis focuse on how mobile devices and modern wireless technologies will be integrated into a wide range of enterprises and retail applications through the utilisation of Bluetooth technology. In order to examine the co-operation between operators, who provide sevices, and commercial organisations, whom could take advantage of implementing such a system, we have carried out a survey using questionnaires. The greater part of this report is the analysis around the result from the questionnaires and also the experts' and proffessional studies on the market. According to our result, most of the suppliers think it is enterprises, big companies and leading retail outlets that will be the biggest driver for Bluetooth devices. These areas are very important for the success of growth for Bluetooth and the Swedish market. That is why suppliers should improve their relation to companies whom could draw benefits from such implementation. The fact that Bluetooth is not fully developed yet has caused delay in launching Bluetooth-enabled devices and Bluetooth services into the market. Once it has been developed, Bluetooth's future will shine.

    Abstract [en]

    User Generated Content (UGC) is becoming increasingly common on the web and many of the most frequently visited websites on the Internet is largely based on content created by its users. Every day 120,000 articles gets edited on Wikipedia by its devoted users who spend an average of eight hours a week on creating new or edit existing material. To motivate users to contribute with content is becoming increasingly important. This requires an increased understanding of what motivates users to contribute. 

    In this paper we study the motivational factors that motivates users to contribute with UGC and if there is any correlation between these motivational factors. A literature review of previous research in the field of UGC is performed and results in 15 motivational factors categorized into four categories. These are presented in a matrix that structures the motivation factors in the different categories. The matrix of the 15 motivational factors are the theoretical foundation for a quantitative survey designed to see to what extent users are motivated by different motivational factors for the creation of UGC. Through the survey we establish an understanding to what extent different motivational factors motivate the participiants of the study to create UGC. The results from the survey are then used to study the relationships between motivational factors. This leads to a correlation table that presents all the significant relationships between factors and a motivation matrix that can serve as a basis for understanding and discuss the motivators for the UGC and its categorizations. Our results may help developers to support multiple motivational factors in services based on UGC. The motivation matrix and the results presented may also be the basis for future research.

    A method to change code in a Mobitex system during runtime is investigated and implemented. The method is referred to as Patching. This will save both time and money because the downtime of the system can be minimized. When system is up an amount of new code can be uploaded to the system. The code is prepared with extra information, which is used for error detecting during upload. Replacing the old code without deleting it and let the processor redirect to the new one is what patching is all about. Failure can occur due to technical equipment as well as by the human factor. Opportunity to undo what has been done is implemented to restore and go back to previous functionality. By this follow that different types of new code can be tested.

    Den här studien handlar om användarkompetens vid postimplementering av affärssystem.

    Syftet med studien var att belysa vilka faktorer som påverkar om användarnas kompetens

    kommer att omsättas till effektivare nyttjande och användande av affärssystemet. För att

    kunna göra detta har vi kartlagt hur ett antal företag arbetar med dessa frågor. Studien syftade

    också till att ta fram riktlinjer för hur företag effektivt bör hantera och utveckla användarnas

    kompetens under postimplementeringen. Studien består av en teoretisk referensram, som är

    uppdelad i fyra kategorier; ledningens roll, kompetensplanering, kompetensutveckling och

    användarmedverkan. Vi har i studien gjort en förstudie och en huvudstudie. Syftet med

    förstudien var att kontrollera att studien var relevant och genomförbar. Den visade på att postimplementeringen inte var ett prioriterat område i verksamheten. Resultatet av huvudstudien visade att det många gånger finns brister i hur användarnas kompetens nyttjas och utvecklas under postimplementeringen. Resultatet visar också brister kring ledningens medvetenhet om betydelsen för fortsatt utveckling av systemet. Utifrån resultatet tog vi fram

    ett antal riktlinjer som kan vara till hjälp för små och medelstora tillverkande företag att nyttja och utveckla användarnas kompetens.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis concerns one of the upcoming and well discussed subjects withincalculations these days, namely how to perform an analysis of the interactionbetween fluid and structure, called FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction). In the report,evaluations of two different methods of simulating FSI are done. These are knownas Practical FSI (P-FSI) and Direct Coupled FSI (DC-FSI). The methods aredeveloped by Acusim in cooperation with Simulia and the softwares used areAbaqus and AcuSolve.The first part of the thesis is dedicated to explain the general theory and thegoverning equations for FSI. After the general explanation a more delimitatedexplanation regarding P-FSI and DC-FSI are given. After this we show how tosetup and perform the couplings regarding which parameters that need to bedefined and how to perform the analyses using Abaqus and AcuSolve.The last section of the thesis covers the evaluation process. We started withevaluating the methods against a benchmark problem where we compared thecalculation time and accuracy regarding displacements and frequencies. The nextthing we evaluated was how different numbers of modes used in the P-FSIcoupling affects the result. The last thing we evaluated was the robustness of themethods using different mass densities of the structure and different time-stepsizes.The result of the evaluation regarding the criteria: accuracy, calculation time androbustness showed that the P-FSI method is the most efficient method comparedto DC-FSI regarding FSI problems when the structural response is linear.

    Living Lab är en öppen innovationsmiljö där innovationer samproduceras, testas och verifieras av användarna, tillsammans med företag och akademin i en kontext som representerar innovationens tänkta användningsområde. Genom samverkan kan olika värden skapas för företagen. Syftet med uppsatsen var att undersöka hur Living Lab skapar värde för företag och vilka värden företag kan identifiera ur de användarcentrerade aktiviteterna. Uppsatsen karaktäriseras av en kvalitativ ansats och grundar sig i en explorativ undersökning med djupintervjuer där fyra företag ligger till grund för uppsatsens resultat. Uppsatsen har visat att Living Lab skapat värden för företag genom att de fått mer tilltalande produkter, identifierat nya användarkategorier och samordnat resurser med företag. Living Lab är därmed värdeskapande för företag genom stöd för utvärdering, ny- och vidareutveckling av innovationer. Samverkan mellan användare, företag och akademin öppnar upp för ett kunskapsutbyte vilket skapar värde för företag då kompetensutveckling äger rum och en djupare kunskap om användarna kan erhållas

    Datorer och IT-stöd fungerar som hjälpmedel för många användare för vilka de effektiviserar och skapar bättre arbetsmiljö. Det är däremot inte alltid användarna är nöjda och ibland upplever de frustration när de drabbas av krångliga datorsystem. En lösning på det problemet har varit att involvera användare i utvecklingsprocessen av datorsystem. Men blir de mer nöjda med systemet bara för att de har fått medverka? Vi ville ta reda på om användares upplevelser av systemets användbarhet ökar eller minskar om de medverkat i utvecklingsprocessen och i så fall på vilket sätt. Vi gjorde en kvalitativ undersökning där vi intervjuade två olika grupper med fem respondenter för vardera grupp. Ena gruppen hade medverkat i systemutvecklingsprocessen och den andra hade inte medverkat. Resultatet visade att användare tenderar att uppleva system som mer användbara om de medverkat i systemutvecklingsprocessen. Vidare visade vår undersökning att länken mellan användare och lyckade system är mer komplex och att organisatoriska aspekter spelar en stor roll.

    Abstract This paper is a candidate project by two becoming engineers from the program of information- & Communication technology 120p. the projects name is iPosition and focus on position of chemical products in factory’s, schools and so on. iPosition is a additional module that the customers can choice when they by Intersolias program for managing chemicals, iChemistry, to become more efficient when managing chemicals, more efficient environment work and above all a more safe work area. The modules opposites purpose is to show where the chemical products are in a factory with a graphical user interface. We use a couple of hardware to get the position of the products. This hardware consists of one master and some slaves. The hardware is placed in the industrial local and with a distance between the hardware so that they can communicate whit each other. On each product in the factory premises thieve got a “clever” tag thats looks like a thick adhesive card. This tag contains a tagid which is attached to a specific product, coordinates where the product is localized and the products temperature. The information that the tags emit sends to the slaves who calculate the position and then sends it forward to the master. The program we have been programming communicate and reads the information from the master and then print it on the graphical interface. We can also show the products temperature, the name of the product and which packing the product has.

    This report describes the creation of an interactive text system for storing, retrieval and publishing of texts, ITS.

    My task was to create a GUI together with a database capable of handling text, commenting of texts, references between texts, and the capability to associate images with texts.

    After enough texts have been inserted into the database, there shall be an ability to generate a report out of them.

    The report describes the methods used when the GUI was implemented, how the database was modelled and implemented, and how the security aspects where solved.

    The entire project is created with the help of Java, MySQL server, Connector/J and OpenSSL.

    Furthermore the functions of the GUI and the future of ITS is described.

    This report describes a realization to enable online payment on Internet in Infogate´s software module package, DynaMaster™ for web-servers. For the realization, Infogate has obtained the necessary hardware in form of a pay-terminal and a computer to act as a transaction-server. The transaction-server and the developed software line up, divide and carry through payments in a secure way against BABS, the most common pay-service in Sweden today. The task has included database-design, parallel-programming, systemizing and error-handling. It has also included low-level programming of the serial communication protocol to communicate with the pay-terminal. The database is used to line up and save information about every transaction made by a customer. The system uses an own-defined API against Infogates e-commerce system and other services. Error handling, expansion possibilities, security and documentation have been given high priorities throughout the development work.

    This report a bachelor thesis describing a project with the goal to control two Lego Mindstorms robots in real time over the Internet. The robots have different functions. One is a mobile robot and the other one is stationary. The mobile robot uses tracks to move around in the enviroment and has a claw that is used to manipulate objects with. The stationary robot has a Logitech webcam that shows the area where the mobile robots moves, the camera can be turned bot horizontally and vertically. The user controls the robot via an applet, the applet creates a socket connection to a server which controls the robots over an infrared link. The webcamera sends the picture using another socket connection so that the user can see what the robot is doing in real time. All components in the system are programmed with java. To execute java byte code on the control units of the robots (also called RCX units) (Robotic Command Explorer) the operating system on these hade to be changed to a leJOS virtual machine.

    När datatrafik färdas genom ett nätverk så passerar det routrar och switcharsamtidigt som dessa enheter visar åt vilket håll paketet ska skickas. Detta kallas förrouting. För att paketen ska hitta rätt väg så använder man sig av routingprotokoll,som vägleder trafiken dit de ska, och olika protokoll har olika fördelar samtidigtsom de används vid olika tillfällen. Målet var att skapa ett stort enhetligt nätverksom tål höga belastningar, har en hög uppkopplingsprocent samtidigt som det skavara lätt att expandera i framtiden. Det största problemet var hur trafiken färdasmellan varje kontor, men problem som hur användarna ska vara uppkopplade tillInternet tas upp i rapporten. Nätverket använder sig av OSPF som routingprotokoll.Varje kontor delas in i områden, totallystubby area, vilket kortar nedroutingtabellen i Stockholm. Resultatet blir att snabba beslut tas när paket skaskickas inom ett kontor och när det ska utanför ett kontor så används en defaultroute. Samtidigt som kontoren är lätta att bygga ut då totallystubby area har endefault route till Stockholm.

    Abstract [en]

    This project targets the problems with design and implementation of Single Instruction

    Multiple Data (SIMD) architectures in System-on-Chip (SoC), with the goal to construct

    a reconfigurable framework in VHDL to ease this process. The resulting framework should

    be implemented on an FPGA and its usability tested. The main parts of a SIMD archi-

    tecture was identified to be the Control Unit (CU), the Processing Elements (PE) and

    the Interconnection Network (ICN), and a framework was constructed with these parts

    as the main building blocks. The constructed framework is reconfigurable in data width,

    memory size, number of PEs, topology and instruction set. To test ease of use and per-

    formance of the system a FIR-filter application was implemented. The scalability of the

    system and its different parts has been measured and comparisons are illustrated.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis concludes the evaluation of a new high level programming language for stream applications, StreamBits. The goal with the project is to evaluate the programmability, with the focus on expressing machine-independent parallelism and bit-level computations in StreamBits. As of now, the programming language is prototyped in a Java framework. This project also involves improvement and expansion of this framework.

    An examination of the framework was conducted. The conclusions of this examination was the foundation of the changes implemented in the framework during the improvement and expansion part of this project. Evaluation experiments were done using the improved version of the framework. The evaluation was based on a comparison of programs implemented in StreamBits and another programming language typically used by industry for this kind of applications. The focus of the evaluation was to evaluate how well the new data-types and stream constructs of StreamBits can be used and expressed compared to other languages.

    The results are partly the improvements and expansion of the framework, partly the results of the tests conducted during the evaluation. Results show that the new data-types and stream constructs of StreamBits are valuable additions to a stream programming language. The data-types and stream constructs assists the programmer to write source code that is not closely bound to a specific architecture.

    Syftet med uppsatsen är att beskriva hur mätning och utvärdering används av dagens konsultfir-mor. Enligt forskningen är den klassiska Return on investment-kalkyleringen den vanligaste me-toden för att mäta hur implementationen gått, men detta kunde inte uppsatsens författare bekräfta. Istället är uppsatsens slutsats att mätning baserad på sparad tid inom olika moment som är det vanligaste i de undersökta företagen men just att mäta om denna tid verkligen sparats in är fortfa-rande komplicerat. Konsulternas standardsvar på vad en lyckad implementation är involverade tre saker: klar i tid, på budget och med kvalitetsförbättring för kunden. Att ha ett sådant tidsmått kommer författarna fram till kan leda till att moment i implementationen negligeras och skjuts upp. Uppsatsen lyfter också fram hur ett Business case bidrar till att öka möjligheterna för en lyckad implementation.

    The track racing team Swede Team Motor is interested in developing a data acquisition system to keep track and log data from a racing car. The goal was to develop a complete solution for the acquisition of data and the transfer of data from a racing car to a PC in the pit. During this project Bluetooth has been tested in high speeds to examine the possibility of use in the FastTrack product. Results of the project were increased knowledge about data acquisition, radio communication standards and a working prototype aimed for demonstration. FastTrack, built on Linux, has the potential to be a general software solution for this goal.

    E-learning har den senaste tiden fått stor uppmärksamhet i media. Vårt syfte var att undersöka och belysa styrkor och svagheter med ett Internetbaserat e-learningsystem som används inom högre utbildning, samt att lyfta fram de konsekvenser dessa har för utveckling av ett e-learning-system. Vi valde att fokusera på lärande, kommunikation och flexibilitet. För att nå vårt syfte gjorde vi en kvalitativ undersökning av e-learning, genom att utföra en fallstudie på Cisco Network Academy Program på Högskolan i Halmstad. Fallstudien innehöll olika data-insamlingstekniker. Vår teoretiska referensram tar upp teorier kring e-learning. Även här ligg-er fokus på lärande, kommunikation och flexibilitet, samt på utveckling av e-learning-system. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att det inom lärande och kommunikation finns både styr-kor och svagheter. De största styrkorna med e-learning inom högre utbildning ligger dock i flexibiliteten. Vår undersökning styrker tidigare forskning, men vi har också funnit nya intres-santa styrkor och svagheter med e-learning inom högre utbildning.

    Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka vilka hinder och möjligheter som virtuella team möter i sitt arbete samt hur dessa påverkar det virtuella samarbetet. Undersökningen utformades som en fallstudie på ett internationellt företag som den 1:e januari år 2002 genomgick en fusion med två tyska företag. Ett halvår innan fusionen trädde i kraft bildades ett trettiotal virtuella team som hade i uppgift att integrera de tre företagen. Fallstudien begränsades till att omfatta de svenska teamdeltagarnas uppfattning om arbetet i de virtuella teamen. Uppsatsens teoretiska referensram byggdes upp kring teorier om utformning av virtuella team, nödvändiga egenskaper hos teamledare och teamdeltagare samt betydelsen av kommuni-kation, förtroende och kultur. Vi valde även att belysa de virtuella teamens betydelse för kunskapsöverföring och lärande. Vårt resultat visar att de språkliga och kulturella skillnaderna mellan de tre företagen utgjorde några av de största hindren i teamen. Något som framstod som en av de stora möjligheterna med virtuella team var att personer med spetskompetens inom sitt yrkesområde, kan samarbeta med andra oavsett var de befinner sig. Teamen skapade också ett nätverk som bör förvaltas i organisationen. De viktigaste rekommendationerna vi lämnar är att det är viktigt att: skapa en medvetenhet om de kulturella skillnadernas påverkan, sätta samman team med engagerade deltagare, tidigt skapa struktur och regler för kommunikation och dokumentation samt att ha ett uppstartsmöte där teamdeltagarna får möjlighet att träffas ansikte mot ansikte.

    This thesis covers the construction of a combined alarm- and logging-system in co-operation with Unneforssågen. Two operator terminals, two micro-PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller) and a main PLC are connected. Sensors are connected to the PLC. The task of the two micro-PLCs is to log the flow of water passing in and out of the system. They also collect and pass on the alarms that are incoming to the main PLC, whose task is to register triggered alarms and send sms. The micro-PLCs are connected to an E300 operator terminal that sends e-mail with logged values of the flow once every twenty-four hours to the person in charge of the environment at the company. The main-PLC is connected to an E600, in which alarms can be seen and acknowledged. At the same time that an alarm goes off, an sms is sent to the person on duty. A number of sensors are brought up and discussed regarding their suitability to the criteria of the company. Also a short discussion about the intelligence in the alarm system is included.

    The project Ethernet through Powerline has been done as a final part of our education as Bachelor of Computer science at Halmstad University. This has been done on commission of ECSAB (Embedded Communication System AB) a computer company in Halmstad. The task was to evaluate a system from Intellon Corporation that ECSAB wanted to develop further. Intellon Power Packet is a development system that uses the powerline in a house as the transmission media. It’s based on two of Intellons own circuits, one main circuit which handles the communication and one A/D-D/A transformer, who both makes it possible to communicate through the powerline. The purpose is to easily create a network and use the existing powerline cables in the house instead of being forced to use a lot of ordinary network cable. Every unit becomes more mobile because every socket in the house could be used as a network connection. The task was to evaluate and investigate the system but also to develop a printed circuit board, based on Intellons circuits. Finally the task was to create a network between our system and the Intellon development system so that the test phase could take place.

    This report will describe the parts and methods, which is used to implement the Bachelor degree project. This will result in a database application with an web based user interface, which allow to automatic search the correct response – spectra and present the results as file and diagrams. The output files must be in a file format that is suitable for the calculation software. The diagram is made with an applet. The database is managed with SQL (Structured Query Language) -server 6.5 and the communication between the web application and database consist of two CGI (Common Gateway Interface)– applications that are written in the programming language of JAVA, hence the application must be executed with an batch file. In addition to the above methods we have also used JAVA - script to validate the HTML (HyperText Markup Language)– forms in our web pages.

    På uppdrag av Fixturlaser AB i Mölndal har vi tagit fram ett färdigt system för datainsamling. Systemet kommer användas för att göra långtidsmätningar på maskiner under drift med hjälp av lasrar. Systemet består en hårdvaruplattform med en ARM7TDMI kärna samt kringelektronik som tillsammans bildar ett gränssnitt mellan en PC och upp till sexton laserenheter av samma modell. För styrning av kommunikationen (Rs232/Rs485) samt konfigurering av systemet används ett program i PC miljö som är framtaget med programmeringsspråket LabVIEW. Från programmet skickas ett datapaket till plattformen där mikroprocessorn kodar av, delar upp och sänder ut data till avsedd laser. Responsen från lasrarna leds åter till mikroprocessorn där det packas ner och sänds vidare till Pc:n där data packas upp och loggas.

    Abstract [en]

    In recent years, the development of wireless sensor networks has made a great progress. Early projects focused on replacement of existing systems equipped with wires. These systems started out as simple static data collection networks with one smart central node that could decide further actions based on the content of the collected data. Through time, the intelligence has become more decentralized, which means the nodes now can cooperate in a more efficient and dynamic manner. The task given is to evaluate TinyOS and NesC on specific hardware from Crossbow Technology Inc, applied on an application called the Open Secure Office Project. This application is designed to enhance the security without negative effects on comfort in a frequently visited open-plan office. Finally, a real world system demonstration should be performed. We propose a solution where there is no urgent need to cover the entire office area with radio signals to maintain a secure sensor system. This is true as long as all entries and exits to the office area are “guarded” by some base station which has as main task to keep track of people and equipment entering or leaving the office. Small scale tests have been performed which show that it is possible to easily develop and maintain a wireless sensor network security system, that could be coordinated by alternative systems.

    E-­‐learning har de senaste åren blivit ett populärt sätt att bedriva utbildning.Geno me-­‐learning ges möjlighet till flexibelt lärande vilket innebär att studenter kan studera oberoende av geografiska och tidsmässiga aspekter, genom så kallade lärplattformar. Dock har vissa problem med formen på utbildningen upptäcks där brist på kommunikation och samarbete lyfts fram som viktiga faktorer. Studiens syfte var att undersöka hur lärplattformar används av lärare för att stödja kommunikation och samarbete inom e-­‐learningkurser. Genom en empirisk studie bestående av intervjuer med lärare kunde de främsta problemen angående kommunikation identifieras och lösningar på dessa erbjudas. Dessa visar på att möjligheten till direkt kommunikation mellan studenter och gentemot lärare är den främst bidragande faktorn till problemen. Studiens resultat visar på att lärplattformar och lärare borde möjliggöra och främja direkt kommunikation mellan studenter genom såväl design som kursupplägg.

    We have checked the possibilities to run a radiocontrolled car from a cell phone or PDA via Bluetooth. This was to be done with plattform-independent software which excludes a lot of other methods than J2ME which is a simplified form of Java for handheld units. During the project it turned out that it was the plattformindependent part that was the real trick. It´s fully possible to create an application in C++ to control something over Bluetooth, but then it’ll only run on one or a handfull of mobiles equipped with the same OS. Most modern mobile phones have built-in support for both MIDP1.0 and J2ME but unfortunally there’s no support to create any network-sockets over Bluetooth neither in todays mobile OS or J2ME. What actually has been done physically is an application which is designed to use an already existing networkconnection. This application is plattform-independent and will be fully usable when support for network-connections via Bluetooth is implemented in coming versions of mobile OS.

    We have checked the possibilities to run a radiocontrolled car from a cell phone or PDA via Bluetooth. This was to be done with plattform-independent software which excludes a lot of other methods than J2ME which is a simplified form of Java for handheld units. During the project it turned out that it was the plattformindependent part that was the real trick.     Abstract [en]

    Lansen Technology is a security company from Halmstad, Sweden and their focus in

    developing and selling alarm solutions. One of their latest inventions is a vibration sensor that

    recognizes very small movements in the ground.

    The thesis work was made in cooperation with Lansen Technology AB and the task was to

    invent a test equipment that decides whether the sensor is working correctly. By generating

    certain frequencies with specific amplitude, we will expect the sensor to give a similar output.

    The final report includes all the parts of our work as studying, choosing components,

    programming, construction, results and conclusion.

    Abstract [sv]
    Vår studie har genomförts på Försäkringskassan i Halmstad och deras pågående förändringsarbete, med fokus på organisation och IT. Vår problemformulering kretsade kring vilka samband som finns mellan organisation och IT i ett förändringsarbete och eventuella problem som kunde finnas. Vi kom fram till att det finns ett antal samband mellan IT och organisation. De två första sambanden vi såg var att IT dels fungerar som ett stöd för organisationen och dels för fram organisationstänkandet. Det sista sambandet vi såg var IT som konkretiserande faktor på det abstrakta processtänkande, vilket skapar en förståelse för processorientering inom organisationen. Det problem som vi slutligen uppmärksammade var att IT-systemet är försenat vilka kan få konsekvenser för förändringsarbetets utfall och resultat.

    Abstract [en]

    Physical activity can reduce the risk of developing dementia, and studies show that people who already have some form of the disease can get a better memory function and find it easier to perform daily tasks if the activity is performed regularly. People who are diagnosed with dementia are generally not offered physical activity to a high extent, nor is there a wide range of equipment developed to suit the target group.

    The Bike Around project was launched during a workshop in Copenhagen and was organized by HCH and Techna Science with the aim to develop new training equipment for people with dementia. The workshop resulted in the development of a customized training bike where the user can get a biking experience from his wheelchair or favorite chair. By integrating the pedal movement with a prerecorded movie projected on a screen, the memory can be stimulated both visually and by the activity itself.

    Our assignment in the project consisted of three parts: design of the bike, movie playback and software programming. During the project a prototype has been created that meets the requirements of ergonomics and usability.
