The Influence Of Generativity On Value Creation – A Study Of Digitized Products2015In: 8th IADIS International Conference on Information Systems / [ed] Miguel Baptista Nunes, Pedro Isaias, Philip Powell, IADIS Press, 2015, p. 51-60Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The advancement of digital technologies is driving traditional product oriented businesses to move from selling product to selling solutions. In order to exploit business potentials from technology, it is important to understand the potential of the technology and how it influences the value creation in a digital environment where it is developed and to be deployed. To understand this changing environment, I have studied remote diagnostics as an example of digital technology within the vehicle industry as a source of new value for business. The findings show that digitized products not only helps to solve existing problems in providing services but also provides potential to generate value for new products and services in the networked environment. An implication from the findings for product oriented firms is that value creation with digitized products requires new business processes. Based on the findings, a discussion is presented about how generativity influences value creation via value in design, governance and networking in a digital ecosystem.

Value Network Transformation: Digital Service Innovation in the Vehicle Industry2016Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Advancement in digital technology is rapidly changing the contemporary landscape of business and associated networks for manufacturing firms. Many traditional physical products are now being embedded with digital components, providing them digital capability to become digitized products. The digitization of physical products has become an important driver for digital service innovation within manufacturing industries. Such digital service innovation transforms value networks of manufacturing firms in various industries. While digitization of products and digital service innovation can be observed in many manufacturing industries, this thesis focuses on the transformation of value networks within the vehicle industry.

This thesis is a collection of papers and a cover paper. The thesis reports from a collaborative project in the vehicle industry. The project explored new digital services for vehicles based on remote diagnostics technology. The exploration and conceptualization of digital services is investigated in a collaborative manner with participants from the vehicle industry. The results reflect that there is a paradigm shift for manufacturing firms digitizing their products, and stretching the business scope from product to solution oriented business.

This thesis contributes to the existing literature on digital innovation with insights on the transformation of value networks in the vehicle industry. The research question addressed in this thesis is: How are value networks of manufacturing firms transformed by digital service innovation? To answer the question, this thesis conceptualizes how the value creating pattern of digitized products transforms value networks of manufacturing firms. A model is presented that reflects how the symbiotic value relationship between the digitized product and digital services transforms the roles, relationships and exchanges in the value networks of manufacturing firms. The model can serve as an analytical tool to further advance the knowledge on business aspects in digital innovation. This thesis contributes to practice by providing an understanding of how manufacturing firms can leverage value of digitized products and digital services in value networks.

Digital Visions vs. Product Practices: Understanding Tensions in Incumbent Manufacturing Firms2014In: Proceedings of the Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences / [ed] Ralph H. Sprague, Jr., Los Alamitos, CA: IEEE Computer Society, 2014, p. 4516-4525Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Incumbent manufacturing firms face challenges when expanding their product focus with digital services. Such expansion creates tensions in organizations in the servitization process. While management visions and conceptualizes new service oriented businesses, the actual practice of implementing these service concepts is influenced by the product paradigmatic way of thinking in the organization. This dominant thinking creates tensions between business visions and business practice. We use the case of remote diagnostics services to provide insights into a manufacturing firm’s attempt to transform the dominant oriented business models into a new networked environment. We suggest that such acts that may or may not lead to transition are lingered by dominant logics related to the product focus. This indicates that firms are required to embed new logics into their existing practice in order to exploit the full potential of digital technology. © 2014 IEEE.

A Role for the Non-Receptor Tyrosine Kinase Abl2/Arg in Experimental Neuroinflammation2018In: Journal of Neuroimmune Pharmacology, ISSN 1557-1890, E-ISSN 1557-1904, Vol. 13, no 2, p. 265-276Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Multiple sclerosis is a neuroinflammatory degenerative disease, caused by activated immune cells infiltrating the CNS. The disease etiology involves both genetic and environmental factors. The mouse genetic locus, Eae27, linked to disease development in the experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) model for multiple sclerosis, was studied in order to identify contributing disease susceptibility factors and potential drug targets for multiple sclerosis. Studies of an Eae27 congenic mouse strain, revealed that genetic variation within Eae27 influences EAE development. The Abl2 gene, encoding the non-receptor tyrosine kinase Arg, is located in the 4,1 megabase pair long Eae27 region. The Arg protein plays an important role in cellular regulation and is, in addition, involved in signaling through the B- and T-cell receptors, important for the autoimmune response. The presence of a single nucleotide polymorphism causing an amino acid change in a near actin-interacting domain of Arg, in addition to altered lymphocyte activation in the congenic mice upon immunization with myelin antigen, makes Abl2/Arg a candidate gene for EAE. Here we demonstrate that the non-synonymous SNP does not change Arg’s binding affinity for F-actin but suggest a role for Abl kinases in CNS inflammation pathogenesis by showing that pharmacological inhibition of Abl kinases ameliorates EAE, but not experimental arthritis. © 2018 The Author(s)

Wetland biomass - suitable for biogas production?2013Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Wetlands have long been used as natural waste water treatment systems to remove excess nutrients from agriculture or other waste waters. Common reed (Phragmites australis) is the most prominent feature of wetlands in Sweden. This wetland vegetation needs to be harvested and can be used as substrate for biofuel production. In this study, common reed and submerged vegetation from two wetlands outside Halmstad have been harvested in August and October and have been used as substrate for anaerobic digestion in a laboratory experiment. August harvested common reed produced on average 147 ml CH4/g VS, October harvested common reed produced 150 ml CH4/g VS while August harvested free floating vegetation produced 130 ml CH4/g VS. Similar methane production was seen from reed harvested in August and reed harvested in October, but the dry weight of October harvested reed is much higher indicating that harvesting in October can be beneficial not only because of more biogas production but also because a late harvest reduces the amount of biomass to be harvested and transported. Apart from that harvesting in October will not affect the migratory birds which use wetlands as resting place during autumn migration.

Igår, idag, imorgon- en kvalitativ studie om lärares användning av skönlitteratur i historieämnet.2018Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Modeling Bus Load on CAN2012Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The existence of high load and latency in the CAN bus network would indeed lead to a situation where a given message crosses its deadline; this situation would disturb the continuity of the required service as well as activating fault codes due to delay of message delivery, which might lead to system failure.

The outcome and goal of this thesis is to research and formulate methods to determine and model busload and latencies, by determining parameters such as alpha and breakdown utilization, which are considered as indications to the start of network breakdown when a given message in a dataset start to introduce latency by crossing its deadline which are totally prohibited in critical real time communications.

The final goal of this master thesis is to develop a TOOL for calculating, modeling, determining and visualizing worst case busload, throughput, networks’ breakdown points and worst case latency in Scania CAN bus networks which is based on the J1939 protocol.

SCANLA (The developed CAN busload analyzer tool in this thesis) is running as an executable application and uses a Graphical User Interface as a human-computer interface (i.e., a way for humans to interact with the tool) that useswindows, icons and menus and which can be manipulated by a mouse.

The use of constructed wetlands in the treatment of dairy processing wastewater2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

The interest in the use of constructed wetlands for the treatment food processing wastewaters including dairy wastewater is growing. The reason is the intention to create clean technologies that can substitute the currently used “environmentally unfriendly” conventional facilities. This paper suggests options for adopting a constructed wetland system to treat wastewaters from diaries. The potential use of two stage wetland systems is investigated. Examples of multi-stage wetland use are reviewed. The calculations based on the k-c * model (Kadlec and Knight 1996) showed that a reasonable option is to use a subsurface wetland 160 m2 area followed by a free water surface wetland 2000 m2 area. However, these calculations are influenced by the use of older data. The most significant effect is the use of the rate coefficient values for both FWS and HSSF wetlands. A comparison is made to show the effects the new data might have on the calculations. Other measures that can increase the efficiency of the suggested wetland systems like filtration media, deep zones and engineering solutions are suggested. Finally, an overall investigation of the costs involved suggests that the wetland option can be cost effective if all the factors that affect the wetland´s construction and functioning are properly dealt with.

Negative impact of lake liming programmes on the species richness of dragonflies (Odonata): a study from southern Sweden2017In: Hydrobiologia, ISSN 0018-8158, E-ISSN 1573-5117, Vol. 788, no 1, p. 99-113Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Liming programmes aiming to restore fish populations are being implemented in many acidified aquatic systems in northern Europe. We studied Odonata communities in 47 forest lakes in SW Sweden, 13 that are currently being limed, and 8 that have previously been limed. Thirty-one species were recorded, with the highest mean number in untreated lakes, followed by previously treated lakes and currently treated lakes. Species communities differed between untreated and limed lakes, but only few rare species found in the untreated lakes were absent in the treated lakes. Likewise, species known to thrive in acid environments were either rare or showed no preferences. Comparing the number of records of odonate species within a large regional area to the proportion of lakes inhabited in our study, we found that seven of the most commonly observed species occurred less frequently in limed lakes than in the untreated ones, including two of the three most common taxa. Reduced species numbers in limed lakes might be due to conditions on other trophic levels, including fish predation. We argue that Odonata should be considered when developing new biological indices of water quality, although the causes of the observed occurrence patterns need to be studied further. © 2016 Springer International Publishing Switzerland

Idea generation in the fuzzy front-end of small entrepreneurial projects2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The success of the new product development (NPD) process is vital for the survival of projects. Especially for small entrepreneurial projects that try to survive in a very competitive environment, affected by constant market and technical changes. Previous literature emphasize the importance of the generation of new ideas, to improve the product concept during the pre-development stage, but it did not pay a lot of attention to the sources of ideas. For this reason, this study aims to develop the knowledge concerning the sources of ideas of small entrepreneurial projects, during the fuzzy front-end (FFE).

The literature review of this study presents the previous researches that relate to the sources of ideas, during the idea generation stage of the FFE. The structure of the existing model, integrating the sources of ideas, is based on three categories: environmental scanning, innovative organizational culture and joint research.

An inductive study and a research, based on the analysis of one small high-tech entrepreneurial project, were conducted to cover the literature gap. This choice of methodology reflects the experimental purpose of this research. The empirical data are only primary data, collected by analyzing the diaries of the two entrepreneurs involved in the project.

Our findings reveal that contact with lead user, entrepreneur experience, customer involvement, brainstorming sessions, competitor analysis, resource constraints and prototype conception represent the main sources of ideas of small entrepreneurial projects in the FFE.

The practical purpose of this study is to offer some advices to entrepreneurs of small entrepreneurial projects for accessing to sources of ideas, during the idea generation stage of the FFE, and manage their impact on the development of the product concept. The theoretical implications contribute to the identification of new sources of ideas and a proposition of framework of their impact.

A taxonomy of planning and scheduling methods to support their more efficient use in construction project management2016In: Journal of Engineering, Design and Technology, ISSN 1726-0531, E-ISSN 1758-8901, Vol. 14, no 3, p. 580-601Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The implementation and control processes of project planning and scheduling involve a wide range of methods and tools. Despite the development and modification and integration of the project management theory with newer scheduling approaches in particular, practitioners’ views on the efficiency and effectiveness of these methods and tools differ. This situation can be attributed in part to a lack of understanding of the most appropriate basis for implementing these methods and tools. This study, therefore, aims to overcome this deficiency by conceptualizing and adopting a taxonomy of planning and scheduling methods.

Design/methodology/approach: The study is based on a review and discourse analysis of the literature covering a large number of theoretical and empirical studies. The underlying theories of various planning and scheduling methods were analyzed with respect to the taxonomy criteria adopted in the study.

Findings: Using the taxonomy, the key characteristics of planning and scheduling methods considered in this study were identified and interpreted. These included concepts and theories; key features; suitability and usability; and benefits and limitations. Overall, the findings suggest that project managers should consider taxonomy as a support tool for selecting and prioritizing the most appropriate method or combination of methods for managing their projects. Recommendations include the need for more advanced or multi-dimensional taxonomies to cope with the diversity of project type and size.

Originality/value: The results of the study allow project managers to improve their current practices by utilizing taxonomy when considering the implementation of planning and scheduling methods. Moreover, taxonomy can be considered as a tool to promote learning on the part of those less experienced in planning and scheduling. Taxonomy can be considered as an initial platform for further research in this area. © 2016, © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Processes and strategies of NPD: A survey of Malaysian Industry2008In: International Journal of Manufacturing Science and Technology, ISSN 1524-1548, Vol. 10, no 1, p. 91-95Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In recent years, there has been a considerable interest in Malaysian manufacturing firms in New Product Development (NPD) which is considered to be indirectly a booster for the success of a firm. The purpose of the study is to highlight the NPD processes and methods used in Malaysian industry. This paper focuses only on the formal NPD-processes and NPD-strategies. From the available database, it is found that there are 250 confirmed companies from automotive, chemical, and electrical industries, which have R&D facilities; out of which 36% have agreed to participate in the survey, and 29% questionnaires have been used. The results show that the best firms have their R&D and NPD departments either overseas or partially in Malaysia.

Bemötandet av patienter med psykisk ohälsa2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Human Understandable Interpretation of Deep Neural Networks Decisions Using Generative Models2019Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Deep Neural Networks have long been considered black box systems, where their interpretability is a concern when applied in safety critical systems. In this work, a novel approach of interpreting the decisions of DNNs is proposed. The approach depends on exploiting generative models and the interpretability of their latent space. Three methods for ranking features are explored, two of which depend on sensitivity analysis, and the third one depends on Random Forest model. The Random Forest model was the most successful to rank the features, given its accuracy and inherent interpretability.

    Abstract [en]

The increased involvement of technology in all aspects of our lives places educational institutions under pressure to include these aspects at the heart of their learning. This ensures that they continue to be competitive in a constantly changing market with international and cultural links. This study explores the factors that influenced the development of learning through technology at two Jordanian universities, focusing on full-time staff and students. It considers the general attitude towards engaging in learning through technology with outcomes demonstrating that training and development is required prior to implementation to adequately support the learning transition. The organisational infrastructure often presents the greatest barrier to such developments. Informed by the outcomes of the study, a training and development programme has been designed, developed and implemented to support the cultural change and increase its impact.

    Abstract [en]

Today’s rapid changing world highlights the influence and impact of technology in all aspects of learning life. Higher Education institutions in developed Western countries believe that these developments offer rich opportunities to embed technological innovations within the learning environment. This places developing countries, striving to be equally competitive in international markets, under tremendous pressure to similarly embed appropriate blends of technologies within their learning and curriculum approaches, and consequently enhance and innovate their learning experiences. Although many universities across the world have incorporated internet-based learning systems, the success of their implementation requires an extensive understanding of the end user acceptance process. Learning using technology has become a popular approach within higher education institutions due to the continuous growth of Internet innovations and technologies. Therefore, this paper focuses on the investigation of students, who attempt to successfully adopt e-learning systems at universities in Jordan. The conceptual research framework of e-learning adoption, which is used in the analysis, is based on the technology acceptance model. The study also provides an indicator of students’ acceptance of e-learning as well as identifying the important factors that would contribute to its successful use. The outcomes will enrich the understanding of students’ acceptance of e-learning and will assist in its continuing implementation at Jordanian Universities.

Parallelization of the Estimation Algorithm of the 3D Structure Tensor2012Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis work provides the implementation of 3D structure tensor on a Massively Parallel Processor Array (MPPA), Ambric 2045.

The 3D structure tensor algorithm is often used in image processing applications to compute the optical flow or to detect local 3D structures and their directions. The 3D structure tensor algorithm (3D-STA) consists of three main parts: gradient, tensor and smoothing. This algorithm is computationally expensive due to many multiplications and additions which are required to calculate the gradient (edge), the tensor and to smooth every pixel of the image. This is why this algorithm is very slow to run on a single processor. Therefore, it is important to make it parallel for high performance computation.

This thesis provides two parallel implementations of 3D-STA; namely coarse-grained parallelism and fine-grained parallelism. Ambric has 336 processors. Only 49 processors are used in coarse-grained implementation and 165 processors are used in fine-grained implementation. The performance of the two implementations is measured using a video stream input, consisting of a sequence of images of size 20x256x256. The performance of the coarse-grained parallelism implementation is 25 frames per second (fps) and the one of the fine-grained parallelism implementation is 100 fps. Thus the fine-grained version is four time faster than the coarse-grained one.

Additionally, the results are compared with the result of the Matlab implementation, running on Intel(R) Core 2 duo @2.10 GHz processor and also compared with another parallel optical flow implementation, in terms of speed and efficiency. The coarse-grained implementation is 58 times faster than the Matlab implementation and it achieves approximately half of the performance of the other parallel optical flow implementation. On the other hand, the fine-grained implementation is 230 times faster than the Matlab implementation and more than twice as (100/43) fast as the other parallel optical flow implementation.

These performance results are satisfactory and the results that our parallel implementations can be considered for real-time applications.

The three dimensional structure tensor algorithm (3D-STA) is often used in image processing applications to compute the optical flow or to detect local 3D structures and their directions. This algorithm is computationally expensive due to many computations that are required to calculate the gradient, the tensor, and to smooth every pixel of the image frames. Therefore, it is important to parallelize the implementation to achieve high performance. In this paper we present two parallel implementations of 3D-STA; namely moderately parallelized and highly parallelized implementation, on a massively parallel reconfigurable array. Finally, we evaluate the performance of the generated code and results are compared with another optical flow implementation. The throughput achieved by the moderately parallelized implementation is approximately half of the throughput of the Optical flow implementation, whereas the highly parallelized implementation results in a 2x gain in throughput as compared to the optical flow implementation. © 2012 IEEE.

    Abstract [en]

Through an exploratory experiment using electromagnetic side-channel attack against a keypad for a commercial entry system it is demonstrated that information leakage through side-channels are an ongoing issue and may make entry systems vulnerable by recording of user data.

Using simple radio equipment, keypresses can be recorded and decoded by undesired electromagnetic radiation and theoretically it is possible to carry out the attack on a longer distance with a specially designed antenna and a custom recieiver.

The report discusses emission security in consumer products which in military context is termed Tempest or compromising emanations (Swedish: RÖS) and requires expensive tests to be detected and handled.

The EMC regulations (electromagnetic compatibility) handles radiation and influence of electromagnetic waves in electronic apparatus and nets, but not directly how information can leak from information technology equipment which this report wants to problematize.

Automatic Pose and Position Estimation by Using Spiral Codes2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This master thesis is about providing the implementation of synthesis, detection of spiral symbols and estimating the pan/tilt angle and position by using camera calibration. The focus is however on the latter, the estimation of parameters of localization.

Spiral symbols are used to be able to give an object an identity as well as to locate it. Due to the spiral symbol´s characteristic shape, we can use the generalized structure tensor (GST) algorithm which is particularly efficient to detect different members of the spiral family. Once we detect spirals, we know the position and identity parameters of the spirals within an apriori known geometric configuration (on a sheet of paper). In turn, this information can be used to estimate the 3D-position and orientation of the object on which spirals are attached using a camera calibration method.

This thesis provides an insight into how automatic detection of spirals attached on a sheet of paper, and from this, automatic deduction of position and pose parameters of the sheet, can be achieved by using a network camera. GST algorithm has an advantage of running the processes of detection of spirals efficiently w.r.t detection performance and computational resources because it uses a spiral image model well adapted to spiral spatial frequency characteristic. We report results on how detection is affected by zoom parameters of the network camera, as well as by the GST parameters; such as filter size. After all spirals centers are located and identified w.r.t. their twist/bending parameter, a flexible technique for camera calibration, proposed by Zhengyou Zhang implemented in Matlab within the present study, is performed. The performance of the position and pose estimation in 3D is reported.

The main conclusion is, we have reasonable surface angle estimations for images which were taken by a WLAN network camera in different conditions such as different illumination and different distances.

The objective of this study is to develop what is called aStudent table, which is designed specifically for school children in emergency circumstances, so it will be suitable for partial solutions for the problems facing children in refugee camps, who are forced to leave their homes and schools. The idea of the study focuses on the creation of the Student table so that the generation of electricity will be suitable for lighting and illumination with the use of some electronic devices used in daily school needs like laptops, so the solar cell system will be connected to a small generator through a hybrid system. A fully functional prototype has been built as part of the study. When the system works through the hybrid route for lighting and illumination the solar system will generate the power needed and when the sun light disappears the Power can be generated by bike pedals. The generation of electricity by the hybrid system is considered as an effective and environmentally friendly option with economic benefits.

The high-frequency compact radio structure of the peculiar quasar 4C 39.251997In: Astronomy and Astrophysics, ISSN 0004-6361, E-ISSN 1432-0746, Vol. 327, no 2, p. 513-521Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

We present new high angular resolution images of the compact non-thermal radio source 4C 39.25 obtained from VLBI observations at λ1.3cm, λ7mm, and λ3mm wavelengths. These maps and Gaussian model-fits show that the milli-arcsecond to sub-milliarcsecond structure of 4C 39.25 consists of a complex bent core-jet structure with embedded moving and stationary VLBI components. Facilitated by the small observing beams and high angular resolutions obtained at mm-wavelengths, we measured the relative positions of the jet components with an accuracy of a few hundred micro-arcseconds. This allows the detailed followup of the ongoing merging process of a westward superluminally moving component (b_) with a stationary component a_, located at ~2.9 mas east of the putative core d_. In contrast to the other components of the structure with steeper spectra, the westernmost component d_ exhibits an inverted spectrum peaking between λ7mm and λ3mm, thus further supporting its identification as the VLBI core, self-absorbed at longer wavelengths. From two VLBI maps obtained nearly simultaneously at λ7mm and λ1.3cm, we made the first spectral index map of 4C 39.25 in this wavelength regime. The main characteristics of the spectral index distribution of the jet are pronounced changes of the spectral index between orientations parallel and transverse to the jet axis. Near the merging components a_ and b_ the spectral index steepens with increasing separation from d_. However, in the bridge of emission c_, which connects d_ with a_ and b_, the spectral index gradient has a direction transverse to the jet axis, suggesting a frequency dependent jet curvature and edge-brightening. A brief discussion of this behaviour within current jet models is presented.

    Abstract [en]

Rebar carpet is an innovation that favors the working environment of the rebar workers and saves time. Reinforcement workers today are a vulnerable group. Heavy lifts and backbreaking postures are a part of their everyday work. It is already established that work with rebar carpets is both time-saving, economically beneficial and from a working environment point of view better than traditional reinforcement work. Despite all benefits it is used in rather few projects today.

The purpose of this study is to identify how the construction industry embraces new innovations related to in situ concrete with post-tensioned reinforcement. The goals are to find out how designers, contractors and manufacturers are working to adopt rebar carpets in the construction process and to shed light on, factors affecting the adoption.

The study is based on semi-structured interviews with designers, contractors and a representative of a rebar manufacturing company.

Designers and contractors have not, generally speaking, been actively working to adopt rebar carpet. The governing factors for the use of rebar carpets is the designers and contractors knowledge and previous experience of rebar carpet. The contractors who have previous experience of rebar carpet can imagine using rebar carpet again and contractors with no previous experience believe that they need more knowledge of rebar carpet before they dare to try. Design engineers who have designed for rebar carpet before has it in mind when they design other projects. Designers who have no previous experience of rebar carpet demand more knowledge about how they can facilitate the use of rebar carpet.

    Abstract [sv]

EN STUDIE AV TILLVÄXTUTVECKLING I SMÅFÖRETAG: EN STUDIE PÅ LEDARE OCH PERSONAL I SVENSKA SMÅFÖRETAG MED SNABB TILLVÄXTUTVECKLING2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The bachelor thesis, MindMe has been realized in cooperation with Niclas Jarhäll at Mutual Benefits AB, Gothenburg. Mutual Benefits AB is a consulting firm, which delivers technical consulting services and products. The bachelor thesis was meant to result in a memory aid for people with a cognitive handicap, which has an impaired memory loss. The project focused on people diagnosed from ADHD (Attention deficit/Hyperactive Disorder) and acquired brain disorder. Early in the project, studies were performed that found an expressed need of a memory aid within this group. The studies also showed that our target group often mislays their personal belongings, as keys, wallet and mobile phone. This causes big anxiety in their daily life. Something that people with a cognitive handicap value highly, is to live their daily life with a sense of safety and independence. However, it is far too many of toady’s memory aids that either ridicule the user, or offers a too complicated solution. Early in the project, a test group was founded with people with a cognitive handicap. Throughout the test group, we found requirements from the users’ point of view, that is something that we think is important for a successful project! MindMe is a memory aid that the user can control from their own mobile phone. With an suited software and three tags, MindMe can offer a simple and personalized aid. The solution has passed through both functional tests and user tests and has been evaluated by a big network. The project has a potential distributor, for a distribution through the county councils of Sweden. The distributor is also interested in adding capital for MindMes further development. During 2008/2009, the project group participated in the business plan competition, Venture Cup. In November 2008, Mindme won a price for one of the best regional business ideas. It feels stimulating to have succeeded to develop a product that both users and outer parts appreciate. MindMe is planned to be introduced for the market in 2010, according our business plan. Our expectations are that more people realize the advantages by using a mobile phone as an aid. Furthermore, we hope that MindMe can offer our target group an every day solution for a safe and independent feeling...

Mellanmänskliga relationers inverkan på den psykiska hälsan: En kvalitativ studie i ett återhämtningsprojekt2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

This study examined the factors that motivate and guide an investor's decisions when they select their projects. The results of the study show that the motives of the various existing forms of crowdfunding is big. To answer the question of what can affect an investor's motives, the form of crowdfunding must be mentioned. Sjuksköterskans attityder gentemot homosexualitet: - ur ett patientperspektiv2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]
Sweden spends more money as a percentage of the GDP on research and development (R&D) than any other OECD country. The outcome is however relatively modest with few new enterprises based upon high technology innovations, the so-called Swedish paradox. One way to increase the number of new high technology companies is by increasing commercialization of university research, so called Research Based Spin-Offs (RBSOs). The universities have a key role in transforming the scientists’, often, minor knowledge in entrepreneurial issues. Moreover, it is important to start more new RBSOs based upon these results. With this in mind we found it most interesting and challenging trying to find key issues that play a vital role in commercialisation of research results. The purpose of the thesis is to describe the commercialization process from five swedish institutions and identify the key actors in the process. We will, in addition to this, create knowledge of factors influencing the level of research-based commercialization.
