A study of pupil’s experiences of their everyday life in the Swedish upper secondary special school - “särskolan”2012In: Journal of Intellectual Disability Research, ISSN 0964-2633, E-ISSN 1365-2788, Vol. 56, no 7-8, p. 708-708Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: The Swedish educational system consists of parallel types of schools. Besides regular compulsory school and upper secondary school another type of school exists in Sweden, referred to as “särskolan”. This is a special school intended for pupils with intellectual disabilities. The primary aim in this thesis is to increase the knowledge about pupil’s experiences of their everyday life in “särskolan”, with regard to the specific school organizations. The experiences of belonging to “särskolan” and perceptions about their identity- and knowledge development have been studied. Furthermore has the pupil’s preparation and perceived possibilities for adulthood been highlighted.

Method: The schools were selected based on a questionnaire survey which aimed to study the variation that exists regarding the organization of upper secondary special schools. By participant observations and interviews with 14 young women and 12 young men at five different schools, the inside perspective have been focused/studied through an interpretive approach.

Results: The ongoing analysis of the results indicates that the pupil’s perceive advantages as well as disadvantages belonging to “särskolan”. A majority phrase injustice in the school system and differences can be seen in their experiences derived to a gender perspective.

Conclusions: Conclusions will be announced during the presentation

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The profit a company makes is dependant of its employees which means that their competence is important for the company to perform well. The middle manager has a central position in the organization and is expected to take on different roles. This probably puts a lot of demands on the middle managers and their competence. We want to contribute with a comprehension of how learning, competence and needs for competence can look at a middle management level. Furthermore we also want to find out what kind of strategy for competence development the middle managers want the company to use so their competence development can be facilitated. We used a qualitative method and got our result from nine different interviews. All the interviews were made at middle management level. Our study has showed that the organizational culture is offering the middle managers great opportunities for informal learning. The company also offers possibilities for formal learning, but a lack of clear strategy when it comes to this seems to be in the way of the competence development for the middle managers. These wishes for strategies could be obliged with, for example mentorship or creating a manual for the managers. The competencies that are demanded by the middle managers’ positions are for example social competence, competence in communication, leadership competence and the ability to build networks. We have found that there is a need for further competence development within these aspects of competencies.

När kollegorna gör dig illa: Sjuksköterskors upplevelse av att bli utsatta för kränkande särbehandling2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Att vårda relationen med nyckelkunder2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Impact of the organisational culture on primary care staff members' intention to engage in research and development2015In: Journal of Health Organisation & Management, ISSN 1477-7266, E-ISSN 1758-7247, Vol. 29, no 2, p. 234-251Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to understand how organisational culture influences the intentions of primary care staff members (PCSM) to engage in research and development (R&D).

    Design/methodology/approach

The participants (n = 30) were PCSM employed in a care centre in south-western Sweden. The study had an observational design with an ethnographic approach. The data were collected by means of observations, interviews and analysis of documents.

    Findings

The results revealed the perceptions of PCSM in two domains, research and clinical practice, both of which existed at three different cultural levels: visible (structures and policy), semivisible (norms and values) and invisible (taken-for-granted attitudes).

    Research limitations/implications

It is difficult to conduct a purely objective ethnographic study because the investigation is controlled by its context. However, it is necessary to highlight and discuss the invisible level to improve understanding of negative attitudes and preconceptions related to the implementation of R&D in the clinical setting. Practical implications - By highlighting the invisible level of culture, the management of an organisation has the opportunity to initiate discussion of issues related to concealed norms and values as well as attitudes towards new thinking and change in the primary health context.

    Originality/value

This paper is one of the very few studies to investigate the influence of organisational culture on the intentions of PCSM to engage in R&D.

Food attitudes among Halmstad University students: A study on common food practices and the extent of prevalence of fast food in the daily lives of Halmstad University Students2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: University students face many obstacles in this phase of life with academic expectations, job opportunities, social problems as well as time management. The busy schedule may lead them to unstructured and unhealthy eating.Aim: The study is aimed to investigate the attitude of university students regarding their food pattern in their daily lives with the prevalence of fast food and to compare males and females food choices, and which significant factors are prevalent to take fast food rather than healthy diet in their routine life.

Method:This study utilized the cross-sectional quantitative method. 105 students from Halmstad University were included in the study. Data were collected with a standardised questionnaire including 23 questions. The data was analysed with descriptive analysis technique. In analytic statistics, the p-value was used for the analysis with the chi-square test and Mann Whitney-U test for differences in attitudes between female and male students.

Results: The students had a mean age of 24.6, with a range from 18 to 30 years. The university students’ food and fast food approach in their daily lives showed that more males compared to females skipped breakfast (p=0.011). The male students apparently consumed more large portions of fast food than females (p=0.001). The consumption of fast food during a day differed; mostly females consumed fast food in the evening, while male students had no specific time for consumption compared to females (p=0.013). Female students more often ate vegetarian food than males (p= 0.049). The favourite fast food of the students was pizza and hamburger, and favourite beverage with fast food was water, coffee, and soft drink. Fast food consumption during a week reported by students was mostly once in a week (71%). The motivational factors of choosing fast food were mostly the taste (30%), other factors were accessibility (15%), pleasure (15%) are with same percentage and followed by shortage of time and affordability (14%)are also similar factors in the choice of fast food.

Conclusions: This study concluded that student’s attitudes regarding food showed that they are sometimes eating a balanced diet, but they also habitual consume fast food once a week. Consumption of unhealthy food seems not to be high compared to other developing countries. Overall, there were no significant differences between males and females’ food attitudes, except for a few habits.

    Children's toy collections in Sweden - a less gender-typed country?2005In: Sex Roles, ISSN 0360-0025, E-ISSN 1573-2762, Vol. 52, no 1-2, p. 93-102Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to describe and analyze differences between girlsrsquo and boysrsquo toy collections in a country that strongly emphasizes gender equality (Sweden). The study was based on the assumptions that toy collections reflect social values in the society where they are found and that Sweden has less gendered values than do many other countries. The toy collections of 152 3- and 5-year old Swedish children were inventoried, and the results were analyzed and discussed in relation to previous research on childrenrsquos toy collections and toy preferences in North America and Western Europe. The Swedish toy collections were found to be gender-typed in ways similar to those reported in previous research in other countries.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Where "miracle" happens. Senior camps, doing age and implications for older people's health and quality of life: Summer camps for older people - senior camps - has in various forms been established around Sweden, not least since the early 2000s. They are usually arranged in a natural setting that will allow staying outdoors and the days alternate between planned group activities and free time. Recurrent is the positive effect senior camps are de-scribed to have on the participants' health, wellbeing and quality of life. The stay at a senior camp is said to break a socially exclusive everyday life and lead to new habits and long-term friendships. Summer camps are usually associated with children and childhood, where urban children are given an opportunity to get out of the country and play, swim and breathe fresh air. In this report it is discussed how these associations affect how senior camps are organized and experienced?

Pushing for Miracles, Pulling Away from Risk: An Ethnographic Analysis of the Force Dynamics at Senior Summer Camps in Sweden2018In: Journal of Aging Studies, ISSN 0890-4065, E-ISSN 1879-193X, Vol. 47, p. 96-103Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

With an ageing population and a discourse of active ageing guiding welfare policies, initiatives to engage older people in health promoting activities have been established. One growing phenomenon is Senior Summer Camps, arranged all over Sweden in beautiful natural environments close to water. Their main purpose is to enable older people to participate in outdoor activities in an institutionalized setting. Although many professionals consider acts of infantilization as highly inappropriate, research has shown that still this is frequently done in institutional settings targeting older people. This paper wish to contribute to this field of research. The objective is to study how the camp leaders handle the dilemma of on the one hand, wanting to push senior campers into participating in challenging activities, and on the other, needing to pull them away, to reduce risk and ensure their safety, as well as how senior campers experience alternately being pushed into and pulled away from activities. What strategies are used by the camp leaders to push the campers to challenge themselves without taking unnecessary risks, and what consequences do these strategies have for the campers? The study was conducted in the form of ethnographic observations at two different camps. During one week at each camp we stayed with the participants, alternately being a silent observer and listener in the background, and an active participant in conversations and activities. Narratives, direct quotes, descriptions and reflections were written down in a field diary that forms the empirical basis for the analysis. Various modes of pushing and pulling were identified and defined as cheering, tricking, compelling, monitoring and restricting. These different modes of pushing and pulling were analyzed as manifestations of force, exerted by the camp leaders within a certain age-based force dynamic that resulted in different responses among the campers, especially in terms of how they “did age” in relation to notions on autonomy and vulnerability. It is shown that manifestations of force involve the risk of putting the campers in a position of vulnerability, regardless of whether or not they are actually vulnerable. The main argument in this paper is that initiatives that in an institutionalized context aim to promote a prolonged health and well-being, targeting “older people” in a general sense, run the risk of getting the exact opposite result, namely instead learned vulnerability is implicitly promoted by removing or downplaying the agency and autonomy of the campers. © 2018

    Abstract [en]

The aim of the study is to create a deeper understanding of which factors perceived to promote the return to work after a long-term sickness in mental health, based on the perspective of the sick-listed. The study is based on Karaseks and Theorells model consisting of demand, control and a theory development of social support in relation to demand and control by Jeffery Johnson. The study is also based on the theory ”a Sense of Coherence”, abbreviated KASAM, developed by Aaron Antonovsky. In order to gain a deeper understanding of which factors perceived to promote the return to work after a long-term sickness in mental ill-health, five interviews were conducted. The results in this study shows that support and communication with employers and colleagues is a success factor when returning to work. It also appears in the study that job training is a success factor but can inhibit the return if it is not reality-based. Participants in this study argues that lower demands and higher self-control are promotions in the return process. Finally, it also emerges that the return is facilitated when the individual feel a sense of coherence to the workplace and the working group.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to broaden the knowledge about organizational change towards an agile organization through exploring how the faktors; structure, culture, agility och psychosocial work environment interacts during this process and how the relationship manifests in practice. To achieve the purpose, the fowling questions guided the way:

    • In what ways can older organizational structures and organizational culture affect agile organizational change?

    • What effects on the psychosocial workplace environment may an organizational change towards agile organization generate.

This qualitative study with deductive approach was based on an organization where the implementation of the agile form was conducted three years ago. The collection of data was based on three semi-structured interviews with representatives from HR, the union and the research team witch also has conducted a study of the organization. Content analysis was use as a method of preparing the data for the analysis, which was done so though a model based on the theoretical  starting points and previous research that have founded this study. The conclusions drawn by this study shows that parts of the organizations older structure an culture still are present inte the new organization and that they inhibited the anchoring of the new approach and way of working . The same situation applies to the opportunity of improved psychosocial work environment where the dominance of the older organizational form resulted in the opportunities remaining just that - in the areas of the organization where it wasn’t impaired.

    Abstract [en]

The purose of the study is to increase knowledge regarding systematic enviromentarl work in an organization that works with road services. Work on the road is done in a hazardous environment with constant danger regarding the life of the individual. The site of the work varies in accordance with where the needs ae . This requires skilled workers capable of working independently and that they are experienced din doing their own risk assessments in accordance with the individual believes that the situation calls for work to be performed safely. The study was conducted with a qualitative research approach in which four employees of different positions, knowledge, experience and vision to work in a hazardous environment were interviewed. The focus rests on the organization, management, and individual aspirations for a safe and secure working environment. The study adds weight to the relationship between the purchaser of the work and the organization as a prime contractor due to the compexity of the organization. Current safety legislation and related regulations are presented for an understanding of what conditions the work is performed in, Furthermore, I have focused efforts on a number of variables including motivation, safety behavior, safety climate, risk and risk perception. The survey results shows that the work on the road is specific in nature, communication with the climate and motivation of safety is of great importance to create a safe and secure environment for the skilled worker to reside in.

    Abstract [en]

The working life of today has become more team focused. It is common to work in differentgroups which puts high demands on managing inter human relations. The leadership has a biginfluence on the workgroups productivity and efficiency hence it requires an active role fromthe group leader.By using a qualitative method, this study examines how leaders lead effective teams. Wefocused on what leadership style the leaders had, how the leaders exercise their leadership ondaily bases and how the leadership style is perceived in the effective teams. The study wasperformed at a national sales organization in Sweden and we used semi-structured interviewsas method. We interviewed the three most effective teams and their leaders in theorganization, with focus on the leadership. The result shows that all leaders mostly use a transformative leadership but also haveinfluences from other leadership styles. The leaders exercise their leadership by support, consultation, communication and encouragement. Results-Based Management is also a bigpart of the leadership exercise since the organization requires the team members to haveindividually daily, weekly and monthly goals to reach.

    Abstract [en]

In our society it is a strong focus on physical activity. Many people are engaged i some form of physical activity and exercise. From a public health perspective, a certain amount of physical activity is good. Similarly, a sedentary lifestyle increase the risk of lifestyle diseases. A person who has no disabilities should have ample opportunity to be physical active. There are different diagnoses or causes that lead to motor disability. Cerebral Palsy, CP, is the most common cause of motor disability for children. Most of those who have CP are adult. The purpose of this study is to describe the experiences of adults with cerebral palsy have in relation to physical activity. What is the experience of participation in relation to physical activity is described, as well as the motivators are. Four adults with CP, aged 20-42, participated in the study. Qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interview was used. Those who described a small degree of participation by children experienced an increase in participation with age, when they understand what and why they would do certain exercises. Motivation Factors to be physical active are different, for example, it may be the experienced utility and satisfaction that can be decisive. The findings suggest that a supportive environment and to have the opportunity to try out various non-organized  ctivities can have positive impact on the experienced participation and motivation factors, and thus help people keep a certain level of physical activity.

    Abstract [en]

The study aims to examine gender equality and the perception of equality in a municipal administration. The ambition is that from a gender perspective to identify areas for improvement and make suggestions on strategic gender equality and sustainable gender development in the administrations different units. In our study we have used a qualitative approach in order to reach a deeper understanding of how respondents perceive and look at gender and gender equality in the administration. In order to achieve such understanding we have made a total of ten semistructured interviews which one of these ten was an informant interview. We used Kvale's sentence concentrator where the larger sentences that respondents stated were formulated more concentrated in order to facilitate the analysis of our empirical data. The result of this study indicates that respondents have different perceptions of what equality is and means. Employees and employers may not get enough information in terms of gender equality, and most are not aware of administration's equality plan. In doing so, they cannot apply or work from gender perspective in the administration's daily work.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of how managers work with theiremployee’s psychosocial work environment. The questions asked are: What are managers inthe studied organization doing actively to positively influence the psychosocial workingenvironment? What are managers in the studied organization doing actively to preventnegative stress? What conditions in the work included in the psychosocial work environmentaccording to the managers in the studied organization? To answer these question, we have applied a qualitative method consisting of face-to-faceinterviews with eleven subjects whereof five male and six female line managers in a FinancialServices company in the private sector. The study shows that there is some ambiguity as to what the definition of the psychosocialworking environment actually is. Clear communications and an inclusive workingenvironment were mentioned as key factors by all managers. In relation to preventingnegative stress, the consensus is that early detection to distribute workloads and tasks at anearly stage to be able to distribute work across the team when required. Our group showedvery differing views on the definition of the subject and applied differing methods andtheories on how to positively influence the psychosocial working environment. The definitionof negative stress is more clear and the opinions are more cohesive in relation to how toprevent and reduce negative stress.

The COO Effect in the International Brand Positioning: A Qualitative Study of Chinese Companies2014Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 40 credits / 60 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Chinese companies have been an important issue in the world economy development, since China belongs to the group of emerging countries that had been gaining prominence in the last years. To gain market, ranges of companies are going abroad, aiming to develop their brands internationally. Brand positioning plays an important role when the goal of the company is to gain competitive advantage and to be positioned in the consumer’s mind. Furthermore, when Chinese companies decide to internationalize, they have to deal with the COO (country-of-origin) effect, which might influence the consumer’s perception when purchasing a product. The aim of this study is to examine how the effects of COO influence brand positioning of Chinese firms when going international, and how they deal with these COO effects. In this context, a theoretical framework presenting the brand positioning drivers with the combination of the COO effect is developed. A qualitative case study that incorporates four interviews in two different Chinese companies with subsidiaries in Brazil, called JAC Motors and ZTE, are settled. The findings from the case study are compared and contrasted with the theoretical framework, developing a cross-case analysis, identifying and complementing the elements of the theoretical framework. In this regard, it was identified that Chinese companies position their brands with a cost-benefit approach, due to the COO effect caused by different general attributes from China. The brand positioning drivers, in a certain way, are defined taking in consideration the COO effect, although the drivers were not totally affected by the COO. In order to deal with the COO effect, most drivers oppose a negative effect of the COO when it is caused by the perception of lack ofquality from Chinese products; or the COO effect is highlighted in the strategy, when it is caused by the perception of low price. These findings are eventually depicted by a theoretically anchored and empirically guided model, which allows the authors to describe the international brand positioning of Chinese brands and how they deal with the COO effect in its international brand positioning.

Prestigens inverkan på vertikala brand extensions för högteknologiska varumärken2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Every so often companies take use of their brand equity to expand to new markets and target audiences. A common strategy to do so is to introduce products in a different price class, also known as vertical brand extensions. The problem is that it is unknown how this affects the consumer’s evaluation of the brand and which factors that contributes to this effect. This thesis deals with the effects of prestige on consumer’s evaluation of vertical brand extensions in the high-technology sector.

The reason for choosing the high-technology sector is that there is a lack of empirical research dealing with it separately. All recent data and analysis includes a wide variety of sectors which has resulted in conclusions that may not be relevant for the sector of our interest. Theory exists that argue that there should be a difference between these sectors but there is no evidence to prove this.

We have collected our own primary data by conducting two open group interviews with two focus groups divided into two age segments. The research and questions have been formed around a couple of well-known brands; Apple and Asus.

Our conclusion is that highly prestigious brands have a higher probability to succeed at introducing more expensive products than a brand with lower prestige. Brands with lower perceived prestige may likewise have a higher probability to succeed at introducing a cheaper product than their higher-prestige counterparts. Furthermore we find that more consumers base their buying decision on function rather than prestige which reduces prestige’ relevance within the high-technology sector.

Risker i det moderna samhället: samhällsvetenskapliga perspektiv2009Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The daily workplace for a temporary agency worker takes place at a client company, and not at the employer. This can weaken the contact with the employer, which can create special conditions for organizational commitment and social support. The purpose of the study is to examine the perception of being employed in a pool of substitutes at a temporary work agency, focusing on organizational commitment and social support. The issues underlying the study are how the respondents perceive, and what influence their perceptions of organizational commitment to the temporary work agency, and how the respondents perceive and what influence their perceptions of social support from the temporary work agency. To answer the questions, interviews were conducted with seven employees in a pool of substitutes at a temporary work agency. The results show that affective commitment is a considerable part of the reason why they currently remain in the agency. Some social support is received from the temporary work agency, while other is preferred from the workplaces. A lack of informational support is perceived, regarding information about the routines in each workplace. Furthermore the results show that the contact with the coordinator is essential for organizational commitment as well as for social support. The perception of social support promotes the perception of organizational commitment. The perception of social support is influenced by the length of experience they have from working in the municipal schools and childcare. It also emerges that the view of the function of the employment influences the perception of organizational commitment.

Ungas arbetssituation i genomströmningsbranscher: En studie av callcenter och McDonald's2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Our result showes that the counselor has got an impact in the psychosocial health of the student / patient within their network. However, it was sometimes difficult for the counselor to clarify exactly what leeds to the changes as they see themselves as one part of the whole. The Result further showes that the counselor using different methods could increase the comprehensible and meaningfulness to the students/patients, so that they could get a better sense of context, and thus easier to manage their everyday. In psychiatry the approach is pathogenic and at schools and the youth clinic it is salutogenic. The punctate location prove to be important in the investigation phase of the students / patients, but the counselors themselves even highlight the importance of a relational position. Counselors can, through conversations, rise attention to the social ties, highlighting its importance so that the students / patients is able to maintain them. This is made through that the students/patients, in a better way, is able to deal with their shame and feelings of pride.

Försörjningstrygghet - I nationens intresse?2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate what perceived factors that affects the use of health benefits from an employee perspective. The study was conducted by using a qualitative method with semistructured interviews with a total of eight respondents. The theories that were used are Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and two communication models. The result shows that internal motivation factors for employees utilizing their healthcare benefits are solidarity, good relationships, health and well-being as well as their own will. External motivation factors are weight loss, physical strength and personal goals. The result also reveals factors that prevent employees from utilizing their health benefits, such as lack of clear and adequate information, high workload, structure everyday life and time. The results also show factors that supports employees to utilizing their healthcare benefits. These factors are the support of the immediate supervisor, support from colleagues, but primarily it’s their own support that helps employees to utilizing their healthcare benefits. The result also shows that if there is a dissemination of information and the opportunity for feedback to the immediate supervisor about health benefits, it contributes to a higher degree of utilization.

Hur kommunala organisationer arbetar inför GDPR: En fallstudie med fokus på förberedelse och genomförande av organisationsförändringar2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to provide information on how organizations prepare for organizational change by examining how they work for the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into action in May 2018. The following questions have been used in order to approach this action: How do municipal organizations prepare effectively for the changes that the EU Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) implies? What steps are particularly problematic in the change work? How can change leaders handle these steps?

During the study, a qualitative method has been used through semi-structured interviews. Respondents have key positions in the preparatory work for GDPR within three municipal organizations. One respondent for each organization. As a theoretical reason, Kotter's eight- step change model and previous research on the importance of an individual perspective in change work have been used and the empirical material has been analyzed using content analysis and opinion concentration. The results show that the preparation work for the change looks different in different organizations. You then have a problem of communicating the vision of change when instructions from the EU and the Data Inspectorate for the new regulation are not fully met. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the importance of organizational understanding and knowledge of change, by the change leader, to introduce a new way of working in a municipal organization.

    Abstract [en]

This is a study of how the Swedish Armed Forces work with diversity and gender equality. The aim is to find out why women begin their admission process, but then chose not to pursue it. This is a problem that the Swedish Armed Forces have and they are trying to attract more women into the organization. Their goal is to be able to make better decisions from a diverse perspective and thereby achieve high effect.

The data was collected by using semi-structured interviews, both personal and by telephone. First performed was a personal interview with our contact at the Swedish Armed Forces, then a telephone interview with a person who is working on a project to make contact with women who have started their admission process. 14 telephone interviews were performed with women who had begun the application process, but then chose not to pursue it.

The results showed that the Swedish Armed Forces' efforts to promote diversity and gender equality can be linked to previous research and theories on the substances. It also showed that the women who we interviewed, chose not to complete the admission process due to other interests took over, or that something turned out wrong in the first step of the admission process.

Dynamic product development: Findings from participating action research in a fast new product development process1996In: Journal of engineering design (Print), ISSN 0954-4828, E-ISSN 1466-1837, Vol. 7, no 2, p. 151-169Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article brings hands-on knowledge from the integrated development process of a new advanced product that had to be launched on to the market in an extremely short time. Quick, effective development was accomplished through product reviewing or benchmarking, user and subcontractor involvement, dynamic and parallel activities, active, motivating leadership and consensus among those involved. The development process proved to be a winding journey with many problems to be overcome in a flexible and innovative way. No breaks were allowed and formal board meetings, stage-gate and other bureaucratic systems were avoided. Thorough cash-flow analyses were continuously carried out. The hectic pace created problems for and tension in the company seen from both short and long perspectives. Theoretical models of integrated product development did not match well to reality which is why the new concept, dynamic product development, is launched here. The article is based on participating action research.

Den upplevda psykosociala arbetsmiljön och gemenskapen på en utvald avdelning inom Transportarbetarförbundet2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Wind turbine noise, annoyance and self-reported health and well-being in different living environments2007In: Occupational and Environmental Medicine, ISSN 1351-0711, E-ISSN 1470-7926, Vol. 64, no 7, p. 480-486Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the prevalence of perception and annoyance due to wind turbine noise among people living near the turbines, and to study relations between noise and perception/annoyance, with focus on differences between living environments.

METHODS: A cross-sectional study was carried out in seven areas in Sweden across dissimilar terrain and different degrees of urbanisation. A postal questionnaire regarding living conditions including response to wind turbine noise was completed by 754 subjects. Outdoor A-weighted sound pressure levels (SPLs) were calculated for each respondent. Perception and annoyance due to wind turbine noise in relation to SPLs was analysed with regard to dissimilarities between the areas.

RESULTS: The odds of perceiving wind turbine noise increased with increasing SPL (OR 1.3; 95% CI 1.25 to 1.40). The odds of being annoyed by wind turbine noise also increased with increasing SPLs (OR 1.1; 95% CI 1.01 to 1.25). Perception and annoyance were associated with terrain and urbanisation: (1) a rural area increased the risk of perception and annoyance in comparison with a suburban area; and (2) in a rural setting, complex ground (hilly or rocky terrain) increased the risk compared with flat ground. Annoyance was associated with both objective and subjective factors of wind turbine visibility, and was further associated with lowered sleep quality and negative emotions.

CONCLUSIONS: There is a need to take the unique environment into account when planning a new wind farm so that adverse health effects are avoided. The influence of area-related factors should also be considered in future community noise research.

Lärares syn på familjehemsplacerade barn: En studie av vilket synsätt och vilka uppfattningar som lärarna i skolan har gentemot elever som är placerade i familjehem2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
