    Abstract [en]

Decisions are increasingly made in connection with screens, amongst other things due to thecontinuous growth of e-commerce. When people make decisions they are influenced by thechoice environment as well as heuristics and biases, which are mental shortcuts. People areinfluenced by heuristics and biases as it is often difficult for them to make decisions based onall of the information presented. Nudges are a way to guide people to make specific choiceswithout limiting their freedom and have primarily been used in non-digital contexts, but havenow also been introduced in informatics. However, in order for nudges to be able to bedeveloped and used digitally it is important to have knowledge about how people make choicesand the effect nudges have. Previous research on digital nudges also asks for studies on howdigital nudges can be designed and their impact on people's choices online. As nudging is a relatively new term in informatics, as well as research regarding the topic isinquired, this study investigate how digital nudges can be designed to guide people tosustainable choices online. The study was conducted with a design research approach wheredigital nudges were designed based on four different heuristics and biases. The nudges wereapplied on an e-commerce website and tested by means of a prototype. The process fordesigning and evaluating the digital nudges was iterated four or five times to in an exploratoryway test different ways to design the nudges in relation to the research question. The studycontribute with a number of suggestions on how digital nudges can be designed based onheuristics and biases, with guidance and sustainability as focal points.

Differences in pain and nausea in children operated on by Tonsillectomy and Tonsillotomy: – A prospective follow-up study2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Aim: The aim of the study was to evaluate the differences in postoperative pain, nausea and time of discharge in children 3-12 years old after undergoing Tonsillectomy (TE) or Tonsillotomy (TT) at the post anaesthetic care unit (PACU), children’s ward and at home.  Background: TE involves risk of bleeding, severe postoperative pain and nausea. TT is a less invasive method with lower risk of bleeding and postoperative pain and nausea according to performed studies. Method: A prospective, comparative follow-up study design. Eighty-seven children from December 2008 until April 2009 in the ages 3-12 undergoing TE or TT participated. Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used for children’s pain and nausea assessments. Result/Findings: Significantly fewer children operated on by the TT assessed postoperative pain ≥ 3 according to the VAS than children operated on by the TE in both the PACU and the children’s ward. A significant difference of postoperative nausea was only present during the care at the PACU and children’s ward with fewer TT children that assessed nausea VAS ≥ 3. The time of postoperative care was shorter among the TT children in both the PACU and the children’s ward. Postoperative pain and pain related difficulties in eating after discharge was significantly more present among the TE children compared to the TT children. Conclusion: The results of our study indicated that TT is a more favourable alternative than TE in children.

    Abstract [en]

Aim: To evaluate the differences in postoperative pain, nausea and time of discharge in children 3–12 years old after Tonsillectomy or Tonsillotomy at the postanaesthetic care unit, children’s ward and at home.

Background: Tonsillectomy involves risk of bleeding, severe postoperative pain and nausea. Tonsillotomy is a less invasive method with lower risk of bleeding, postoperative pain and nausea according to previous studies.

Design: A prospective, comparative follow-up study design.

Method: From December 2008–April 2009 following parental agreement, 87 children in the ages 3–12 undergoing Tonsillectomy or Tonsillotomy participated. Visual analogue scale was used for children’s pain and nausea reports.

Result: Significantly, fewer children operated on by the Tonsillotomy reported postoperative pain ‡ 3 according to the visual analogue scale than children operated on by the Tonsillectomy at the postanaesthetic care unit and the children’s ward. A statistically significant difference of postoperative nausea was only present during the care at the postanaesthetic care unit and children’s ward with fewer Tonsillotomy children reporting nausea ‡ 3. The time of postoperative care was shorter among the Tonsillotomy children in both the postanaesthetic care unit and the children’s ward. Postoperative pain and pain related difficulties in eating after discharge was significantly more present among the Tonsillectomy children compared with the Tonsillotomy children.

Conclusion: The results of our study showed duration of postoperative pain and nausea in both groups, but indicated that Tonsillotomy is a more favourable alternative than Tonsillectomy in children. © 2012 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.

Projekt Ljudmodul1999Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]
Project Soundmodule is a final thesis project with development of a new product at the University of Halmstad. The project is done by Mats Ahlstedt and Kristoffer Ekman in co-operation with Trivector System AB, during autumn 1998 and spring 1999. The purpose of the project is to develop a soundmodule for automatic call out of bus stop names in vehicle for public transportation. This is a way to increase the grade of service to the passengers. Trivector System AB's vehicle computer, Triveco 7, initiates the call out. The new soundmodule consists of a single board PC with audio interface and a flashdisk. The bus stop names are stored in the Mp3-format. Each 2-sec bus stop name takes approximately 20kb storage on the flashdisk. The project members developed the program that controls the soundmodule for this purpose. The program DosAmp is used to play the files with the bus stop names.

Sjuksköterskors omvårdnad av patienter med smärta2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Pain is the most common symptom for which people seek care. Despite increased knowledge of pain management, untreated pain persists to be a problem. Enduring pain is an unpleasant experience and nurses have an important role to relieve patients’ suffering. It seems that at times nurses strive to receive empowerment can affect their caring of patients with pain negatively. Aim: to investigate nurses caring for patiens with pain. Method: Literature study with a deductive directed content analysis. The result showed that nurses have a pride in their work and a will to perform good nursing for patients with pain and their actions were usually directed by that. Sometimes, however, nurses’ actions were ruled by coping strategies and their own needs to suppress their own emotions which could result in patients receiving poorer care. The investigation showed that patients could even be mistrusted and ignored by nurses. Both nurses and patients experiences health through empowerment and the pain treatment thus get positively affected. The care should therefore be organized so that nurses are given greater opportunity to perform nursing based on person-centered care. Research is recommended regarding the underlying reasons why nurses underestimates patients 'pain perception and how nurses' own influence in pain treatment can be strengthened so that patients do not suffer

Betyg och bedömning: Elevers upplevelse av vad lärare väger in vid betygssättning2005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Demonstrationsrätten2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Smärtlindring vid militära aktioner2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Social responsibility in connection with business closures: A study of closures of Ericsson Telecom facilities in Norrköping and Linköping2010In: Economic and Industrial Democracy, ISSN 0143-831X, E-ISSN 1461-7099, Vol. 31, no 4, p. 537-555Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The present article analyses why and how Ericsson Telecom assumeda greater responsibility than was legally required when it dismissedmore than 23,000 employees in Sweden at the beginning of the21st century. The analysis starts from neoinstitutional theoryand is based on case studies of the company’s closuresin Norrköping and Linköping. The article focuses,in particular, on the interaction between Ericsson, the tradeunions, the County Administrative Board, the County Labour Board, the Public Employment Service, the Swedish Employment SecurityCouncil, the government and the respective municipalities. Itis shown that the greater responsibility taken by Ericsson wasbased on its desire to maintain legitimacy by taking into considerationprevailing societal expectations regarding the company’sbehaviour.

Strategier i tiden: En studie av telekomföretaget Ericssons nedläggningar i Norrköping och Linköping2006Book (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine how high school students wish to receive feedback in physical education, if positive feedback from the P.E. teacher is perceived as beneficial to the students’ motivation and also to examine if the motivational climate is perceived as task oriented or ego oriented by the students. In total 8 high school students (4 boys, 4 girls) at the age of 16 participated. Semi structured interview guides were used during the interviews who took place in a private and neutral location. The informants wanted positive feedback and instructive feedback. Positive feedback was perceived as beneficial to the informants’ motivation. They also perceived encouragement as beneficial to their motivation. Both task oriented and ego oriented motivational climate were experienced. However the P.E. teacher was perceived as using a task oriented approach. The informants’ answers related to both Self determination theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000) and Achievement goal theory (Nicholls, 1989). According to the study, the P.E. teacher’s feedback approach should concentrate on positive, encouraging, instructing and constructive feedback and have a task oriented approach.

Sömn hos intensivvårdspatienter. En litteraturstudie2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Flexible Snowboard System2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The project, Flexible Snowboard System, has been carried out by the project group independently and is a module developed for snowboarders, ski rentals and ski schools. The problems of today’s solutions are that they cause the user an inconvenient standing position when riding the ski lift or skating the transportation slope, also mounting, adjustments and disassembling of the bindings are time consuming and brings undesired wear to the screws and screw holes. In addition any adjustments require that the user steps out of the bindings and have tools at hand.

Flexible Snowboard System is a universal module which means that it can be assembled with all of today’s snowboards and bindings. The module enables the user to do standing position adjustments with 360 degrees rotation within a 10 centimeters long interval along the snowboard’s length direction and saves time and wear when assembling/disassembling. Flexible Snowboard System includes few components which makes manufacturing and assembling easy and inexpensive. By an easy maneuver the user can adjust the standing position as he or she prefer.

The result of this project is a prototype which firstly eases the snowboard session for the user when the module enables different standing options optimized for conditions like powder, park or piste. Flexible Snowboard System offers a great opportunity for ski rentals and ski schools to increase customer values on account of minimized idle time. The implementation of our product would bring low investment costs because it’s universal and fit the equipment they use today, easy to manufacture and assembly.

The carry through of project Flexible Snowboard Binding has been according to dynamic product development and the project group has had great use of the different methods and tools such as idea generating, model making, evaluation matrixes and testing.

Tillgänglighet på Internet för Dyslektiker2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Aspects of Code-switching in Films featuring African American Vernacular English2001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]
In a language there are various speech codes. When one switches one’s speech from one code to another to accomodate a change in situation, this is called code-switching. The aim with this study was to establish if African American Vernacular English speakers code-switch, and if so, then how and why. I looked into whether or not ethnicity affected any possible swithces and tried to establish what effect core- and peripheral membership of a social network had on the switching between codes. I also tried to establish if there was a difference in the switches between the different features (grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary). Due to the lack of available AAVE speakers, I decided to conduct a qualitative study based on conversation from three films. I feel the study is of great importance since the way media represent language and ethnicity promotes and reinforces certain ways of thinking, acting and speaking.

Hur kan ett e-hälsostöd designas för att främja inre motivation till fysisk rehabilitering?2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Due to an increased need for health care, physical rehabilitation is an area where there is a growing need for implementation of e-health support. An unsuccessful rehabilitation plan could potentially lead to a patient's pain or discomfort not being improved as planned. This may lead to the patient needing more rehabilitation care than what had been required if the rehabilitation plan had been completed from the beginning. In addition to this being a cost for the patients themselves, it also entails an extra cost for health care services. Motivation is considered one of the main aspects to take into account as it influences people's ability and willingness to do something. If the motivational aspect is ignored in the design of e- health support in a rehabilitation context, there is a risk that the design will not possess the functions that can be crucial for the user to use the digital support. Although rehabilitation patients are provided with proper physiotherapy exercises they do not perform their exercises, which may be due to their lack of intrinsic motivation. Despite this dilemma, there are few studies that investigate how digital support can be designed to promote intrinsic motivation in a rehabilitation context. The study therefore aimed to examine how an e-health support can be designed to promote intrinsic motivation in a rehabilitation context. The research question was examined using a design-oriented approach. In order to investigate intrinsic motivation, the concept is concretized to the three psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness. The study then resulted in nine design proposals that informed how an e-health support could be designed to promote intrinsic motivation by supporting the three basic psychological needs: autonomy, competence and relatedness.

Inline Pallet Brake: Aktiv bromsning av takpannor2005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]
ABECE AB in Enstaberga is developing and producing machinery for concrete roof tile production. The company wanted to investigate if there was a way to increase the production rate, decrease operation perturbations and reduce the setup time for new production sites. In the current process the tiles are only braked by the friction between the form pallet and the slide bearings. The purpose of this brake is to receive unhardened tiles on steel or aluminum pallet without deforming or breaking the tile. With this feature the speed, which the tiles are inserted, can be increased allowing for a higher production rate. The complete systems were tested with unhardened tiles and operated as planned.

Screening Web Breaks in a Pressroom by Soft Computing2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

Web breaks are considered as one of the most significant runnability problems

in a pressroom. This work concerns the analysis of relation between various

parameters (variables) characterizing the paper, printing press, the printing

process and the web break occurrence. A large number of variables, 61 in

total, obtained off-line as well as measured online during the printing process

are used in the investigation. Each paper reel is characterized by a vector x

    of 61 components.

Two main approaches are explored. The first one treats the problem as a

data classification task into "break" and "non break" classes. The procedures

of classifier training, the selection of relevant input variables and the selection

of hyper-parameters of the classifier are aggregated into one process based on

genetic search. The second approach combines procedures of genetic search

based variable selection and data mapping into a low dimensional space. The

genetic search process results into a variable set providing the best mapping

    according to some quality function.

The empirical study was performed using data collected at a pressroom

in Sweden. The total number of data points available for the experiments

was equal to 309. Amongst those, only 37 data points represent the web

break cases. The results of the investigations have shown that the linear

relations between the independent variables and the web break frequency

    are not strong.

Three important groups of variables were identified, namely Lab data

(variables characterizing paper properties and measured off-line in a paper

mill lab), Ink registry (variables characterizing operator actions aimed to

adjust ink registry) and Web tension. We found that the most important

variables are: Ink registry Y LS MD (adjustments of yellow ink registry

in machine direction on the lower paper side), Air permeability (character-

izes paper porosity), Paper grammage, Elongation MD, and four variables

characterizing web tension: Moment mean, Min sliding Mean, Web tension

    variance, and Web tension mean.

The proposed methods were helpful in finding the variables influencing

the occurrence of web breaks and can also be used for solving other industrial

    problems.

Tillverkning av vingblad för små vindkraftverk enligt Piggotts kunstruktion2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis includes a mechanical engineering work that has been conducted in collaboration with TEROC AB, in the endeavour to manufacture blades for small wind turbines with 1.2 m rotor diameter primarily based on Piggott's construction. The method used in the project is based on Freddy Olsson's books; Principal & Primary construction, Piggott's design, Michael F. Ashby process and International Electrotechnical Commission.

The group was commissioned by TEROC AB to review alternative manufacture with clear requirements specifications, various proposals were put forward. The first is that the blades are made of wood material, others of plastic composite and third proposal of aluminum.

Proposals were the most suitable option for continuing with and developing further. The group performed simulation in Catia V5 and design of prototype sheets.

The group performed strength calculations on the blade, with the collected facts the group could ensure the wind power blade's strength. The result has become a CAD model drawn in the Catia V5, the Cad model has also been used for a FEM analysis of strength theory, and selected material using the Michael F. Ashby process

Green Driving Application: Eco Driving2016Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Eco-driving has acquired great importance in recent years because it is a way to reduce energy consumption that can be applied to any type of vehicle. However, for these rules to be applied requires a process of continuous learning and motivation. For this reason many eco-driving assistants have emerged.

This paper presents Green Driving, a driver safety app for Android that detects inattentive driving behaviors and gives corresponding feedback to drivers, scoring their driving and alerting them in case their behaviors are unsafe.  It’s about changing a person’s driving behavior by providing some kind of advice to the driver.  I have worked on an algorithm that is meant to reduce the fuel consumption of users. The algorithm is deployed in an android application.

This application “Green Driving” is aimed at users with cars. It is basically like an assistant, suggesting the user when he should make the right gear changes, when to increase/decrease speed and avoids hard braking and rapid acceleration and etc. It is in order to drive economically, ecologic and in turn save money and safety. This is a smart way of letting a user drive economically and ecologic since almost everyone has an Android smartphone now.

Breathlessness in everyday life from a patient perspective: A qualitative study using diaries2014In: Palliative & Supportive Care, ISSN 1478-9515, E-ISSN 1478-9523, Vol. 12, no 3, p. 189-194Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Objective: Breathlessness is a subjective symptom, which makes it difficult to define and understand. The aim of the present study was to illuminate how patients suffering from breathlessness experience their everyday life. Method: The study was a qualitative study, and the focus of the analysis was the patients' descriptions of their experiences of breathlessness using a diary with two unstructured questions for a period of 7 consecutive days. Sixteen participants: 7 men, mean age 65 ± 7 (range 55-73 years old), and 9 women, mean age 65 ± 9 (range 50-72 years old) participated in the study. Results: Two themes emerged from the analysis: 1) Impaired quality of life and 2) symptom tolerance and adaptation. The theme "impaired quality of life" included the categories limited physical ability, psychological burdens, and social life barriers. The theme "symptom tolerance and adaptation" included importance of health care, social support, hobbies and leisure activities, and coping strategies. Significance of results: The findings in our study showed that patients, in spite of considerable difficulties with shortness of breath, found relief in several types of activities, in addition to drug therapy. The result indicates that the "biopsychosocial model" is an appealing approach that should be discussed further to gain a better understanding of breathlessness. Switched Multi-hop Priority Queued Networks-Influence of priority levels on Soft Real-time Performance2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 15 credits / 22,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the last few years, the number of real-time applications has increased. These applications are sensitive and require the methods to utilize existing network capacity efficiently to meet performance requirements and achieve the maximum throughput to overcome delay, jitter and packet loss. In such cases, when the network needs to support highly interactive traffic like packet-switched voice, the network congestion is an issue that can lead to various problems. If the level of congestion is high enough, the users may not be able to complete their calls and have existing calls dropped or may experience a variety of delays that make it difficult to participate smooth conversation.

In this paper, we investigate the effect of priority levels on soft real-time performance. We use the priority queues to help us manage the congestion, handle the interactive traffic and improve the over all performance of the system. We consider switched multi-hop network with priority queues. All the switches and end-nodes control the real-time traffic with “Earlier Deadline First” scheduling. The performance of the network is characterized in terms of the average delay, the deadline missing ratio and the throughput.

We will analyze these parameters with both the bursty traffic and evenly distributed traffic. We will analyze different priority levels and will see how the increase in priority level increases the performance of the soft real-time system.

Decision algorithm and procedure for fast handover between 3G and WLAN2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Different types of wireless network systems have been developed to offer Internet access to mobile end users. Now days a burning issue is to provide the network facility to end users on anywhere and anytime bases. Typical examples of wireless networks are 3G and WLAN (wireless local area network). An important issue is to integrate these heterogeneous networks and manage the mobile nodes while moving across heterogeneous networks with session continuity, low latency for handover between networks that are based on different technologies (vertical handover) and minimum packet loss. To achieve this, it is important to find the right point in time to perform a handover between two networks and to find a new network that, in fact, improves the connectivity over a reasonable time span. In this thesis, we propose vertical handover techniques for mobile users, based on predictive and adaptive schemes for the selection of the next network. The handover decision between the technologies takes the velocity of the mobile node, battery condition of mobile node, signal to interference ratio (SIR), application requirements and received signal strength RSS) as decision parameters. In order to reduce unnecessary handover, the concept of dwell timer is used and to reduce the handover latency, the predictive mode of Fast Mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) and for minimum packet loss, the concept of tunnelling and buffering of packets on new access router in advance are proposed.

Electrical and Optical Characteristics of InP Nanowires based p-i-n Photodetectors2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Photodetectors are a kind of semiconductor devices that convert incoming light to an electrical signal. Photodetectors are classified based on their different structure, fabrication technology, applications and different sensitivity. Infrared photodetectors are widely used in many applications such as night vision, thermal cameras, remote temperature sensing, and medical diagnosis etc.

All detectors have material inside that is sensitive to incoming light. It will absorb the photons and, if the incoming photons have enough energy, electrons will be excited to higher energy levels and if these electrons are free to move, under the effect of an external electric field, a photocurrent is generated.

In this project Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy is used to investigate a new kind of photodiodes that are based on self-assembled semiconductor nanowires (NWs) which are grown directly on the substrate without any epi-layer. The spectrally resolved photocurrent (at different applied biases) and IV curves (in darkness and illumination) for different temperatures have been studied respectively. Polarization effects (at low and high Temperatures) have been investigated.  The experiments are conducted for different samples with high concentration of NWs as well as with lower concentration of NWs in the temperature range from 78 K (-195ºC) to 300 (27ºC). These photodiodes are designed to work in near infrared (NIR) spectral range.

The results show that the NW photodetectors indeed are promising devices with fairly high break down voltage, change of photocurrent spectra with polarized light, low and constant reverse saturation current (Is). The impact of different polarized light on photocurrent spectra has been investigated and an attempt has been made to clarify the observed double peak of InP photocurrent spectrum. Our investigations also include a comparison to a conventional planar InP p-i-n photodetector.

The effect of strenuous exercise on circulating cytokines2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Cytokines are small proteins secreted by white blood cells which play an important part of the immune system. These proteins are secreted due to inflammation which can be caused by infection, cancer and also exercise stress. In this regard the most controversial type of exercise is strenuous exercise. That is why this study focused on this type of exercise in order to bring more knowledge about its effect on immune system, cytokines in particular. Aim: The aim of this research was to study the effects of strenuous exercise on levels of circulating cytokines, and analyze the association of cytokines with baseline fitness and body composition variables. Methods: Thirty recreationally active and healthy male participants were cycling at 70% of their VO2max. Venous blood samples were taken before and after exercise. The serum levels of 37 cytokines were analyzed. Additional variables involved in this study are fitness and body composition as well as temperature measures. Statistical analysis tests used in this study were dependent t-test and Pearson correlation. Results: Interleukin-19 (IL-19) and Osteopontin (OPN) showed significantly lower levels post exercise, whereas APRIL/TNFSF13, sCD30/TNFRSF8, MMP-3, sTNFR1, and TSLP showed significantly higher levels after exercise compared with levels before exercise. Cytokines that showed an association with VO2max, peak power output, body fat percentage and body temperature at baseline were BAFF/TNFSF13B, MMP-2, Pentraxin-3, IFNa2, IL-29 and Osteocalcin. Conclusion: It is concluded that acute strenuous exercise change both pro-inflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines levels, but it remains to be investigated for how long these changes are sustained, or modified by regular exercise training.

    Abstract [en]

The aim with this study was to study how preunderstanding of a text or literature makes the reading easier for second language learners. I wanted to find out how we can work with preunderstanding in school and help our students.  The study is based on interviews I did with three teachers.

Science shows us that reading consists of two main activities, a visual analysis of the text and an interpretation of what the textual means. These activities run together where the information in the textual and the preunderstanding the reader has cooperates together.

The study shows that preunderstanding is very important for second language students. An important reason is to understand a book even if you don`t get every word in it. The study also shows that the teachers use preunderstanding every day in different ways.  They use pictures, discussions and the experiences that the students have. The teachers in the study explained that they let the students choose literature sometimes, but they also decide what the students are going to read. The reason for that is to develop more knowledge among students about new appearances.

    Abstract [en]

Social Workers work in the Social Services Addiction Unit is challenged to meet the client's needs while responding to the organization's resources. This is due to insufficient resources placed on abuse because the target group is not a priority. Therefore, it is important that social workers have a margin of action to make thoughtful actions in relation to both parties. The purpose of the essay is to investigate and analyze the factors that social workers perceive may affect the social investigative work and how social workers experience power in the investigative work with adult clients who have ongoing abuse problems. The purpose is expressed in issues that take into account what opportunities and limitations social workers experience in the law investigation work and how they experience the exercise of power in relation to the client in investigation according to the law.

The study is based on 7 qualitative semi structured interviews with social workers who work with investigations with substance abusers in Halland and Skåne County. The material was analyzed using Lipsky's concept discretion and Foucault's power theory. The results show that missions, laws and guidelines, resources, customer attitude and social workers' subjectivity are regarded by social security as both the possibilities and limitations in the SoL investigation. In addition, the social workers find that they have power in relation to the client with the help of knowledge about the subject, but they also have the ambition to lift the client that leads to a relational power. Social workers also act in an uncertainty where the social workers' scope for action, including factors that enable and limit the investigative work is important for the work in the social field.

Distriktsköterskans strategier för att stärka egenvård hos personer med hjärtsvikt i hemmet: En integrativ litteraturstudie2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The older population in Sweden increases dramatically while resources are decreasing. Heart failure is one of the most common diseases in Sweden which causes hospitalization for elderly people. Symptoms of heart failure can be stressful and affect the quality of life negatively for both patients and close relatives. A lot of old people with heart failure lives at home and need support to cope with their illness and reduce hospitalization. The aim of the literature study is to describe district nurses' strategies to strengthen self-care in patients with heart failure in home care. The method is an integrative literature study where 19 articles of both qualitative and quantitative methods are included. The results show four categories that address strategies district nurses can apply to strengthen self-care in patients with heart failure. These are essential conditions for district nurse, the importance of starting from the patient's situation and needs, to work with goals and follow-up as well as offer education and knowledge. The essential conditions are mainly that higher education and experience are of great importance in the work of self-care. Other strategies emerging is to see each individual person as unique, work with participation, involve relatives and individualized education as well as follow up. There is no general strategy to strengthen self-care that works for all. District Nurse skills are necessary in the work of providing individual support that strengthens selfcare.

DogProof -Den dolda skyddsärmen2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

We present a survey of the recent research efforts in integrating model learning with model-based testing. We distinguished two strands of work in this domain, namely test-based learning (also called test-based modeling) and learning-based testing. We classify the results in terms of their underlying models, their test purpose and techniques, and their target domains. © Springer International Publishing AG

Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av familjecentrerad enkelrumsvård på neonatalavdelning: - En intervjustudie2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

There are 36 neonatal wards in Sweden, which demands a highly specialized healthcare. Therefore, neonatal nurses need to have adequate education and have good knowledge within their field. Not every ward in Sweden conducts family centered single-room care. This care-model means that parents take care of their child throughout the day with the support from nurses.

The aim of this study was to highlight nurses’ experience of family-centered single-room care in a neonatal ward. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. From the result three categories emerged; nurses and family-centered single-rooms care, parents and family-centered single rooms care and children and family-centered single room.

The result showed that family-centered single-room care is preferred from both nurses and families. Experience shows that nurses’ role has changed from being the one closest to the child and performs nursing care, to leave that responsibility to the parents and instead assume a teaching role. This allows parents to grow in their roles and strengthens the connection with the child. Communication between nurses and families is important for this form of care to succeed, and therefore needs to be highlighted in future educations. Neonatal wards need to discussed communication and structured up how it should be carried out on the workplace.

Sleep problems and fatigue as a predictor for the onset of chronic widespread pain over a 5- and 18-year perspective: a 20-year prospective study2018In: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases, ISSN 0003-4967, E-ISSN 1468-2060, Vol. 77, no Suppl. 2, p. 87-87Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: If localised pain represent one end of a pain spectra, with overall better general health, chronic widespread pain (CWP) and fibromyalgia represent the other end of the spectra with worse general health and more comorbidities with other somatic diseases and mental illness. Sleep problems and fatigue are common among individuals reporting CWP and previous research indicate that sleep problems may be an important predictor for pain prognosis.

Objectives: The aim of this population-based study was to investigate if sleep problems and fatigue predict the onset of CWP 5 and 18 years later.

Methods: In order to get more stable baseline classifications of CWP, a wash-out period was used, including only individuals who had not reported CWP (according to ACR 1990 criteria for fibromyalgia) at baseline (−98) and three years prior baseline (−95). In all, data from 1249 individuals entered the analyses for the 5 year follow-up (−03) and 791 entered for the 18 year follow-up (−16). Four parameters related to sleep (difficulties initiating sleep, maintaining sleep, early morning awakening and non-restorative sleep), and one parameter related to fatigue (SF-36 vitality scale) were investigated as predictors for CWP. Binary logistic regression analysis were used for analyses.

Results: All investigated parameters predicted the onset of CWP five years later (problems with initiating sleep (OR 1.91; 1.16–3.14), maintaining sleep (OR 1.85; 1.14–3.01), early awakening (OR 2.0; 1.37–3.75), non-restorative sleep (OR 2.27; 1.37–3.75) and fatigue (OR 3.70; 1.76–7.84)) in a model adjusted for age, gender, socio-economy and mental health. All parameters except problems with early awakening predicted the onset of CWP also 18 years later. In all, 785 individuals did not report any of the sleeping problems at baseline (fatigue not included), 268 reported one of the problems, 167 two, 128 three and 117 subjects reported to have all four sleep problems. Reporting all four sleep problems was significantly associated with CWP at follow-up at both time points when adjusting for age, gender, socio economy and mental health (OR 4.00; 2.03–7.91 and OR 3.95; 1.90–8.20); adjusting for age, gender, socio economy and number of pain regions (OR 2.94; 1.48–5.82 and OR 2.65; 1.24–5.64) and in a model adjusting for age, gender, socio economy and pain severity (OR 2.97;1.53–5.76; and OR 3.02;1.47–6.21) for the 5 year and 18 year follow-up respectively, compared to not reporting any of the sleep problems at baseline.

Conclusions: Both sleeping problems and fatigue predicts the onset of CWP 5- and 18 years later. The results highlight the importance of the assessment of sleep quality in the clinic.
