Det gränslösa arbetet - frihet eller fälla?: Hur påverkas individer av det nya flexibla arbetssättet på en arbetsplats?2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this paper is to gain a deeper understanding of how new practices andprocedures affects individuals and the work situation at a workplace. More studies andresearch shows that society has changed from an industrial society to postindustrial society, which contributed that new forms of organizations have emerged. These changes affectindividuals who work in them. Three themes are highlighted in the study. Physical work-How affected individuals of work, working hours and working environment. Social work, flexibility, and interoperability requirements. Working conditions, opportunities forindividuals and borders. The study was conducted at the ABF (Workers EducationalAssociation) in Halmstad. Qualitative interviews were used and six employees at ABF havebeen interviewed. The theorists who form the basis of the analysis is Beck, Sennet, Theorelland Hatch. The concept of flexibility is very important in this study. The result show cleardifferences between normal and flexible working. These differences manifested by the spatialworking environment and working time. The results also show differences in terms offlexibility, both in collaboration and the ability to be adaptable in tasks. The flexible workalso requires constant development of new knowledge. Based on control, influence andsupport you as an employee has in job affects the work situation. The change of new forms oforganization places new demands that create opportunities and limits for the individual.

"…att vi skulle stå på parkeringen och sälja bilar…": En studie om romers upplevelse av diskriminering.2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The existence of discrimination against the Roma has been demonstrated in previous studies and inreports from Diskrimineringsombudsmannen. The purpose of this study is to describe and understand Romaexperience of discrimination. The issues raised are if Roma perceive them to be discriminated and in what way, how they face the prejudices they as a group are exposed to and what they consider to be identified as the cause of discrimination. The empirical part of the study has been carried out using qualitative methodology, through interviews with Roma respondents. The theoretical approach is based on perspective regarding discrimination, stigma and exclusion in order to describe the social structures thatinfluence prejudice and discrimination.

The study shows that the Roma in the survey feel they are discriminated in many areas of life, and they describe it as part of their everyday life. The reasons stem from, as they see, that historical prejudice in society remains. They demonstrate also that this causes a feeling that they as individuals belonging to the Roma community have a lower value in comparison with the majority society. To break these prejudices respondents see the need to work on two fronts, both from the majority society and the Roma, where concepts such as feeling of security and information are essential.

Laser Music System: Implemented using lasers, infrared sensors, photocells and a Arduino Microcontroller2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

A Laser Music System has been created, that combines a laser and light sensor system with an infrared distance sensing system that detects the position of a user’s hand when it intersects one or more of the individual laser beam. The laser beams, which are made visible by a small amount of smoke in a dark room, provide visual guidance to the user to reduce the difficulty of using a non-contact instrument as well as enhancing an appealing optical effect for the user. The system uses a number of Sharp distance sensors to map the position of the user’s hand to a variable like pitch. The user should move their hand to different heights to achieve a desired pitch. The laser beam should be broken to trigger the desired note.

Identifiering och omvårdnad av nedkylda patienter inom ambulanssjukvården: Litteraturstudie2001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

The purpose of this study is to create an understanding of how e-commerce companies use loyalty programs in order to retain their customers and to increase its consumption, and compare this with customer perceptions of loyalty and learn what makes them loyal.

    Theoretical framework

The theoretical framework starts with definitions of loyalty and customer loyalty. Further, it discusses what a loyalty program is, how rewards today and in the future affect the consumers, and other promotion offers that are commonly used. The theory also discusses how previous points work in e-commerce.

    Method

To take advantage of the companies’ point of view and at the same the customers’ perspective, the survey is based on a combination of a qualitative and quantitative study. In the study, two companies in the fashion industry were interviewed and 391 respondents participated.

    Empirical study

In the empirical study the interviews with the two e-commerce companies are first presented, which revolves around their use of loyalty program. It´s followed by a presentation of the results from the quantitative study with 391 respondents, where we took part of their view of customer loyalty.

    Conclusion

E-commerce companies are using a combination of SP and CRP in their loyalty programs and it is important to adapt to a changing market. According to the customer group loyalty is based on a lot of confidence in the company and the customers often focus on the deal that is most affordable for them right now. Loyalty is also based on other aspects such as customer service and security, which is provided for loyalty programs to work.

Kameleontfastigheter - En uppsats om flexibilitet i lokaler2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Halmstadgruppen2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Nanowires with magnetic doping centers are an exciting candidate for the study of spin physics and proof-of-principle spintronics devices. The required heavy doping can be expected to have a significant impact on the nanowires' electron transport properties. Here, we use thermopower and conductance measurements for transport characterization of Ga 0.95Mn 0.05As nanowires over a broad temperature range. We determine the carrier type (holes) and concentration and find a sharp increase of the thermopower below temperatures of 120 K that can be qualitatively described by a hopping conduction model. However, the unusually large thermopower suggests that additional mechanisms must be considered as well. © 2012 Phillip M. Wu et al.

Effects of Different Pretreatments on Improving Biogas Production of Macroalgae Fucus Vesiculosus and Fucus Serratus in Baltic Sea2019In: Energy & Fuels, ISSN 0887-0624, E-ISSN 1520-5029, Vol. 33, no 3, p. 2278-2284Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Global warming along with energy demand and rising prices of natural energy resources have motivated studies to find some renewable and clean energy. The use of algae as the third-generation biofuel can avoid the competition for farmland, and algae can be considered as a potential future source of renewable energy. Algae can be used for biogas production through anaerobic digestion (AD). Fucus vesiculosus and Fucus serratus are the two dominating species of brown seaweed growing in the Baltic Sea in the southwest of Sweden. Pretreatment can significantly affect the biogas production because hydrolysis of the algae cell wall structure is a rate-limiting step in the AD process. In this study, four different pretreatments: mechanical, microwave (600 W, 2 min), ultrasonic (110 V, 15 min), and microwave combined with ultrasonic (600 W, 2 min; 110 V, 15 min) were applied to the seaweed and then codigested with a biogas plant leachate. The aim of this study was to investigate methane yields from AD after these pretreatments. The results showed that when compared with only mechanical pretreatment, the ultrasonic, ultrasonic combined with microwave, and microwave pretreatments could obtain increased cumulative methane yields of 167, 185, and 156%, respectively. The combined pretreatment showed a maximum methane yield of 260 mL/g·of volatile solids after 20 days of digestion. The ultrasonic combined with microwave pretreatment showed a significant improvement in methane yield when compared with the mechanical pretreatment. Copyright © 2019 American Chemical Society

The Relationship between Smartphone Addiction and Interaction Anxiousness among College Students in Sweden2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The development of smartphones packed with applications has brought great convenience to, and improved the quality of, people’s daily lives, but it has also changed people’s behavior. People spend more and more time on mobile phones every day, leaving them distracted, affecting their sleep quality, and thereby giving rise to the concept of smartphone addiction. As a major group of smartphone users, college students have also experienced situations in which the use of mobile phones has decreased their learning efficiency as they try to escape from academic pressure.

This article presents quantitative research on college students in Halmstad and aims to explore the connection between smartphone addiction and interaction anxiousness. Data was collected from a sample of 123 smartphone-using college students using an incidental sampling method; questionnaires provided a scale to rate smartphone addiction and interaction anxiousness. Statistical Product and Service Solutions (SPSS) 23 was used to analyse descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, independent-sample t-test, and regression and so on.

According to the results, smartphone addiction is not common among college students. The overall status of college students’ interaction anxiousness is close to a moderate level. Levels of interaction anxiousness varied significantly depending upon gender, subject and grade. There is a significant positive correlation between smartphone addiction and interaction anxiousness. Interaction anxiousness has a certain predictive effect on smartphone addiction.

A Drucker-Prager model for elastic contact with friction2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In mumerical contact simulations with friction, the simple Coloumb law is usually employed. Standard plasticity models are difficult to use since the balance enforced on the contact surface typically only involves balance of traction vectors, and does not use the full stress tensor on the interface. In this work we describe an approach that allows for the use of the stress tensor, thus opening up the possibility of using more advanced plasticity models. We exemplify this approach by implementing the Drucker-Prager pressure sensitive plasticity model.

Costs of care for people with dementia just before and after nursing home placement: primary data from eight European countries2015In: European Journal of Health Economics, ISSN 1618-7598, E-ISSN 1618-7601, Vol. 16, no 7, p. 689-707Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Dementia is the most common cause of functional decline among elderly people and is associated with high costs of national healthcare in European countries. With increasing functional and cognitive decline, it is likely that many people suffering from dementia will receive institutional care in their lifetime. To delay entry to institutional care, many European countries invest in home and community based care services.

Objectives: This study aimed to compare costs for people with dementia (PwD) at risk for institutionalization receiving professional home care (HC) with cost for PwD recently admitted to institutional long-term nursing care (ILTC) in eight European countries. Special emphasis was placed on differences in cost patterns across settings and countries, on the main predictors of costs and on a comprehensive assessment of costs from a societal perspective.

Methods: Interviews using structured questionnaires were conducted with 2,014 people with dementia and their primary informal caregivers living at home or in an ILTC facility. Costs of care were assessed with the resource utilization in dementia instrument. Dementia severity was measured with the standardized mini mental state examination. ADL dependence was assessed using the Katz index, neuropsychiatric symptoms using the neuropsychiatric inventory (NPI) and comorbidities using the Charlson. Descriptive analysis and multivariate regression models were used to estimate mean costs in both settings. A log link generalized linear model assuming gamma distributed costs was applied to identify the most important cost drivers of dementia care.

Results: In all countries costs for PwD in the HC setting were significantly lower in comparison to ILTC costs. On average ILTC costs amounted to 4,491 Euro per month and were 1.8 fold higher than HC costs (2,491 Euro). The relation of costs between settings ranged from 2.4 (Sweden) to 1.4 (UK). Costs in the ILTC setting were dominated by nursing home costs (on average 94 %). In the HC setting, informal care giving was the most important cost contributor (on average 52 %). In all countries costs in the HC setting increased strongly with disease severity. The most important predictor of cost was ADL independence in all countries, except Spain and France where NPI severity was the most important cost driver. A standard deviation increase in ADL independence translated on average into a cost decrease of about 22 %.

Conclusion: Transition into ILTC seems to increase total costs of dementia care from a societal perspective. The prevention of long-term care placement might be cost reducing for European health systems. However, this conclusion depends on the country, on the valuation method for informal caregiving and on the degree of impairment.

"Vi fixar hellre festen själva än kommer till dukat bord": En kvalitativ studie om brukarstyrning, delaktighet, makt och inflytande utifrån informatörernas erfarenheter på Alfa i Laholms kommun.2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Spendrups Bryggeri AB1999Student paper second termStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Do we do what our resultsshow? European career researchers about their own careers2019In: Abstract book of the 15th European Congress of Sport and Exercise Psychology / [ed] B. Strauss, 2019, p. 74-Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Four prominent career researchers – Dorothee Alfermann (Leipzig University), Natalia Stambulova (Halmstad University), Miquel Torregrossa (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Paul Wylleman (Vrije Universiteit Brussel) – discuss the associations between their research during the past 20 to 30 years and their own professional careers. Some of the most important findings from their research on topics such as career transitions, career termination/retirement, psycho-socio-cultural factors/holistic development, and athletes’ crises include that:  *   a career and its termination are the result of multiple factors (athlete and social environment);  *   transitions have the power to change the development of careers in sport and life;  *   research should include retrospective accounts and rationalizations and also future prospects;  *   athletes’ careers are influenced by their concurrent development in different domains and the occurrence of transitions.Challenges in their own career included balancing career and family, coping with life-long mobility requirements, making Russian career research meaningful internationally, balancing personal career with the growth of the own research team, and applying research findings. After four brief career narratives the researchers will discuss:  *   How their thinking about athlete careers evolved during their research career;  *   The associations between a research-based ‘career-type-of-thinking’ and their own career;  *   The people and organizations having influenced their career;  *   The major lessons learned and what recommendations could be given to younger career researchers and sport psychology/career/dual career practitioners?Questions from the audience also will be encouraged.

Det gäller ju att hänga med...: seniorers upplevelser av e-tjänster2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

This essay will analyse how racism is represented in hip-hop lyrics from the first 7 years of the 2010th decade. The lyrics will be divided into four various categories to show how the artist is using history to connect with the listener.

When analysing the lyrics, a content analysis will be used were the lyrics are broken down into smaller parts. These smaller parts will be broken down and the valuable information is extracted. When doing this analysis, it is important to not break the lyrics into too small parts, if done the context can be lost.

Dialogue Behavior Management in Conversational Recommender Systems2007Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis examines recommendation dialogue, in the context of dialogue strategy design for conversational recommender systems. The purpose of a recommender system is to produce personalized recommendations of potentially useful items from a large space of possible options. In a conversational recommender system, this task is approached by utilizing natural language recommendation dialogue for detecting user preferences, as well as for providing recommendations. The fundamental idea of a conversational recommender system is that it relies on dialogue sessions to detect, continuously update, and utilize the user's preferences in order to predict potential interest in domain items modeled in a system. Designing the dialogue strategy management is thus one of the most important tasks for such systems.

Based on empirical studies as well as design and implementation of conversational recommender systems, a behavior-based dialogue model called bcorn is presented. bcorn is based on three constructs, which are presented in the thesis. It utilizes a user preference modeling framework (preflets) that supports and utilizes natural language dialogue, and allows for descriptive, comparative, and superlative preference statements, in various situations. Another component of bcorn is its message-passing formalism, pcql, which is a notation used when describing preferential and factual statements and requests. bcorn is designed to be a generic recommendation dialogue strategy with conventional, information-providing, and recommendation capabilities, that each describes a natural chunk of a recommender agent's dialogue strategy, modeled in dialogue behavior diagrams that are run in parallel to give rise to coherent, flexible, and effective dialogue in conversational recommender systems.

Three empirical studies have been carried out in order to explore the problem space of recommendation dialogue, and to verify the solutions put forward in this work. Study I is a corpus study in the domain of movie recommendations. The result of the study is a characterization of recommendation dialogue, and forms a base for a first prototype implementation of a human-computer recommendation dialogue control strategy. Study II is an end-user evaluation of the acorn system that implements the dialogue control strategy and results in a verification of the effectiveness and usability of the dialogue strategy. There are also implications that influence the refinement of the model that are used in the bcorn dialogue strategy model. Study III is an overhearer evaluation of a functional conversational recommender system called CoreSong, which implements the bcorn model. The result of the study is indicative of the soundness of the behavior-based approach to conversational recommender system design, as well as the informativeness, naturalness, and coherence of the individual bcorn dialogue behaviors.

Formal Learning Sequences and Progression in the Studio: A Framework for Digital Design Education2016In: Journal of Information Technology Education: Innovations in Practice, ISSN 2165-3151, E-ISSN 2165-316X, Vol. 15, no 1, p. 35-52Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper examines how to leverage the design studio learning environment throughout longterm Digital Design education in order to support students to progress from tactical, well-defined, device-centric routine design, to confidently design sustainable solutions for strategic, complex, problems for a wide range of devices and platforms in the digital space. We present a framework derived from literature on design, creativity, and theories on learning that: (a) implements a theory of formal learning sequences as a user-centered design process in the studio; and (b) describes design challenge progressions in the design studio environment modeled in seven dimensions. The framework can be used as a tool for designing, evaluating, and communicating course progressions within – and between series of – design studio courses. This approach is evaluated by implementing a formal learning sequence framework in a series of design studio courses that progress in an undergraduate design-oriented Informatics program. Reflections from students, teachers, and external clients indicate high student motivation and learning goal achievement, high teacher satisfaction and skill development, and high satisfaction among external clients.

This paper addresses conversational interaction in user-adaptive recommender systems. By collecting and analyzing a movie recommendation dialogue corpus, two initiative types that need to be accommodated in a conversational recommender dialogue system are identified. The initiative types are modeled in a dialogue strategy suitable for implementation. The approach is exemplified by the MADFILM movie recommender dialogue system.

    Abstract [en]

Conversational recommender systems (CRSs) approach user preference acquisition from a conversational point of view, where preferences are captured and put to use in the course of on-going natural language dialogue. The approach is motivated by its aim to make interaction efficient and natural, to acquire preferences from the user in a context when she is motivated to give them, as well as to facilitate exploration of the domain and the development of the user’s preferences. A CRS’s dialogue strategy to achieve these aspects of the interaction is crucial for its performance and usability. This paper reports on a user satisfaction evaluation of ACORN, which is a CRS in the movie domain. The results of the study indicate a high user satisfaction with the interaction from nine usability aspects, and that ACORN’s dialogue strategy is suitable for efficient interaction and user preference modeling, and facilitates domain exploration.

    Abstract [en]

This paper presents and evaluates a behavior-based approach to dialogue management, where a system's complete dialogue strategy is viewed as the result of running several dialogue behaviors in parallel leading to an emergent coherent and flexible dialogue behavior. The conducted overhearer evaluation of the behavior-based conversational recommender system CORESONG indicates that the approach can give rise to informative and coherent dialogue; and that a complete dialogue strategy can be modeled as an emergent phenomenon in terms of lower-level autonomous behaviors for the studied class of recommendation dialogue interaction. © 2007 Association for Computational Linguistics.

    Abstract [en]

In our work with conversational recommender systems we have derived two dialogue strategiescalled interview and delivery. We explorethe symmetry between preferential interview andtraditional clarification questions, and arrive atbasic interview and delivery strategies suitablefor conversational recommender system implementations. The strategies are based on a corpusanalysis of recommendation dialogues inthe movie domain. We illustrate the strategiesin a conversational music recommender systemcalled CORESONG.

    Abstract [en]

Preference dialogues display several interestin gcharacteristics that have implications on how to design human-like dialogue strategies in conversational recommender systems. Using human-human preference dialogues as an empirical base, this paper introduces a novel data manipulation language calledPCQLthat comprises explicit descriptive, comparative and superlative preference management as well as implicit preference statements such as factual information queries. The usage of the PCQL language is demonstrated by an implementation of a music conversational recommender system.

Society’s use of increasingly complex information technology is, in a long-term perspective, shaped by the way we train our future designers and developers of information systems. By preparing students for practice on the field, in complex use-contexts, we aim to help student’s bridge theory and practice, thereby helping them incorporate procedural knowledge and reflective practice in their skill repertoire. This paper presents a new course structure founded on active, contextual, and peer-based formative learning. Based on student and teacher reflections from two implementations of a course in Interaction Design, we find that our approach enhances the students’ understanding, and assimilation, of the reflective aspect of interaction design practice.

Building an Experience Framework for a Digital Peer Support Service for Children Surviving from Cancer2013In: Proceedings of Interaction Design and Children (IDC'13), New York, NY: Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), 2013, p. 269-272Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Childhood cancer survivors adjust to the physical, mental, and social difficulties associated with their illness and treatment. This process can be facilitated by social support from peers. For children, this is often problematic due to geographical, clinical, and age-related limitations. This paper reports on a stakeholder assessment study that confirms the relevance of a digital peer support service for childhood cancer survivors. The analysis establishes where in the existing health care process the digital peer support service should be introduced, what actors play a key role in facilitating service onboarding and use, and characterizes desirable user experience qualities. The analysis also yields a collection of design challenges to be addressed in the development of the digital peer support service. Copyright 2013 ACM.

Effects of Using Child Personas in the Development of a Digital Peer Support Service for Childhood Cancer Survivors2017In: Journal of Medical Internet Research, ISSN 1438-8871, E-ISSN 1438-8871, Vol. 19, no 5, article id e161Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND: Peer support services have the potential to support children who survive cancer by handling the physical, mental, and social challenges associated with survival and return to everyday life. Involving the children themselves in the design process allows for adapting services to authentic user behaviors and goals. As there are several challenges that put critical requirements on a user-centered design process, we developed a design method based on personas adapted to the particular needs of children that promotes health and handles a sensitive design context.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of using child personas in the development of a digital peer support service for childhood cancer survivors.

METHODS: The user group's needs and behaviors were characterized based on cohort data and literature, focus group interviews with childhood cancer survivors (n=15, 8-12 years), stakeholder interviews with health care professionals and parents (n=13), user interviews, and observations. Data were interpreted and explained together with childhood cancer survivors (n=5) in three explorative design workshops and a validation workshop with children (n=7).

RESULTS: We present findings and insights on how to codesign child personas in the context of developing digital peer support services with childhood cancer survivors. The work resulted in three primary personas that model the behaviors, attitudes, and goals of three user archetypes tailored for developing health-promoting services in this particular use context. Additionally, we also report on the effects of using these personas in the design of a digital peer support service called Give Me a Break.

CONCLUSIONS: By applying our progressive steps of data collection and analysis, we arrive at authentic child-personas that were successfully used to design and develop health-promoting services for children in vulnerable life stages. The child-personas serve as effective collaboration and communication aids for both internal and external purposes.

Co-constructing Child Personas for Health-Promoting Services with Vulnerable Children2014In: CHI '14 Proceedings of the SIGCHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, Toronto, ON, Canada: ACM Press, 2014, p. 3767-3776Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The availability of health-promoting resources for young children diagnosed with cancer who are transitioning from intensive care to everyday life is limited. In the context of designing digital peer support services for children who are considered vulnerable due to clinical and age-related aspects, there are several challenges that put critical requirements on a user-centered design process. This paper reports on a new method for co-constructing child-personas that are tailored for developing health-promoting services where empirical data is restricted due to practical and ethical reasons. In particular, we are proposing to focus children design workshop sessions on salutogenesis, and complement this with a pathogenic perspective by interviewing healthcare professionals and parents. We also introduce the use of proxy personas, and redemption scenarios in the form of comicboards, both collaboratively constructed by children and designers through storytelling. By applying four progressive steps of data collection and analysis we arrive at authentic child-personas that can be used to design and develop health-promoting services for children in vulnerable life stages.

The effects of Foam Rolling and Static Stretching on bilateral forward jumping ability and flexibility of the hamstrings musculature2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background: Foam rolling (FR) is a promising new trend in the world of resistance training, sports and  athletics. It is often used as a warm up activity as a substitute or addition to  stretching modalities such as static stretching (SS). The proposed benefits behind FR is that it can lead to  both acute and chronic increases in performance and flexibility. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two different warmup intervention protocols  of the hamstrings musculature on: 1) Performance in the bilateral standing long jump 2) Flexibility in a  supine activekneeextension test. Method: The study consisted of sixteen male participants who were all healthy adult recreational athletes.  The two different interventions were, a) Static Stretching protocol (SS) and b) a Foam Rolling protocol  (FR). These were compared to a baseline warm up (BLWU). The SS consisted of 1 x 30 seconds of active  SS using the lying supine activekneeextension position after a short warmup. The FR consisted of 1  bout of 30 seconds of FR of the hamstrings musculature of each leg after a short warmup. BLWU  consisted of a short warmup (5 submaximal bilateral standing long jumps). Performance was measured  using a bilateral standing long jump test. Flexibility was measured with a goniometer using a lying supine active knee extension test. The student’s ttest was used to study differences between and within groups (BLWU, SS, FR). Results: No differences between BLWU and PostSS (p=0.89) as well as BLWU compared to PostFR (p=0.86) was detected for performance. However, an increase in flexibility was shown favoring PostSS over BLWU (p=0.021) as well as PostFR over BLWU (p=0.045). No significant difference was seen  between changes in the PostSS and PostFR groups in either performance or flexibility (p=0.887 and  p=0.944 respectively). Conclusion: It seems that both SS and FR are similarly viable and effective methods for acute increases  in flexibility in the activekneeextension test without subsequent decreases in performance of the bilateral standing long jump.

Client perceptions of a work rehabilitation programme for women: The Redesigning Daily Occupations (ReDO) project2013In: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy, ISSN 1103-8128, E-ISSN 1651-2014, Vol. 20, no 2, p. 118-126Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: The Redesigning Daily Occupations programme (ReDO) is a Swedish work rehabilitation programme for women on sick leave due to stress-related disorders. The aim of the study was to investigate the participants' perceptions of taking part in the work rehabilitation programme. Methods: Seven of the 38 women who completed ReDO were interviewed during and after the programme. The interviews were analysed by manifest and latent content analysis. Results: The informants were satisfied with the content of the programme and the support they received in the programme and when returning to work. The women thought they had become more aware of what they did during a day and how they performed their daily activities, which helped them to change their ways of performing them. The result highlighted different parts of their rehabilitation process which constituted four sub-themes: "Perceptions of the ReDO", "The intrinsic process", "Person-related changes", and "Perceptions of returning to work", and formed the core theme "Critical parts of the rehabilitation process". Conclusions: The findings may not be generalized to other settings and future research should further investigate work rehabilitation for the target group. © 2013 Informa Healthcare.

Women's perceived work environment after stress-related rehabilitation: Experiences from the ReDO project2016In: Disability and Rehabilitation, ISSN 0963-8288, E-ISSN 1464-5165, Vol. 38, no 6, p. 528-534Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The study aimed to investigate (a) if womens perceptions of their work environment changed during a 16-week rehabilitation period and at a 12-month follow-up; (b) whether such changes were related to outcomes in terms of return to work, well-being and valued occupations. Methods: Eighty-four gainfully employed women on sick-leave due to stress-related disorders responded to instruments assessing perceptions of the work environment, well-being (self-esteem, self-mastery, quality of life, perceived stress, self-rated health) and perceived occupational value. Data about return to work were collected from registers. Non-parametric statistics were used. Results: The increase in the womens ratings of their work environmentwas non-significant between baseline and completed rehabilitation but was statistically significant between baseline and the 12-month follow-up. No relationships were found between changes in perceptions of the work environment and outcomes after the rehabilitation. At the follow-up, however, there were associations between perceived work environment changes in a positive direction and return to work; improved self-esteem, self-mastery, quality of life, perceived occupational value and self-rated health; and reduced stress. Conclusion: It seems important to consider the work environment in rehabilitation for stress-related problems, and a follow-up appears warranted to detect changes and associations not visible immediately after rehabilitation.Implications for RehabilitationWork environmentPerceptions of the work environment seem important for return to work, although other factors are likely to contribute as well.Perceptions of the work environment are associated with several aspects of well-being.When developing rehabilitation interventions a focus on the clients' perceptions of their work environment seems vital. © 2015 Informa UK Ltd.
