    Abstract [en]

Communication, competence, trust and commitment are all important factors forthe real estate agent which affects the customer meeting. The real estate agent will workactively with the variables in order to obtain the knowledge and satisfaction of the sellingcustomer’s wishes. A superficial analysis of needs out of the customer and a personalizedcustomer meeting are factors that affect customer satisfaction in the positive sense. The essayproves that the variables interact and affects the number of satisfied customers within the realestate industry.

The critical role of informed political direction for advancing technology: The case of Swedish marine energy2017In: Energy Policy, ISSN 0301-4215, E-ISSN 1873-6777, Vol. 101, p. 52-64Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Marine energy technologies can contribute to meeting sustainability challenges, but they are still immature and dependent on public support. This paper employs the Technological Innovation Systems (TIS) framework to analyze the development and diffusion of Swedish marine energy up until 2014. While there were promising device developers, relevant industrial capabilities, and world-class research, the system suffered from weaknesses in several important innovation processes. Finally, the analysis identifies the lack of informed political direction as a critical blocking factor and highlights its connection to domestic market potential. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

"Att lyckas": En resa från periferin till praktikens mitt: En studie om ungdomsproffs i fotboll och deras erfarenheter och upplevelser2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Revisionsplikt & Skattefel i Sverige: Hur resonerar intressenter på den Sociopolitiska arenan?2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Mandatory auditing for the smallest limited companies in Sweden was abolished in 2010, mainly to reduce the cost burden for these small companies. This created different reactions among the companies' external stakeholders, both positive and negative. It was seen as positive for business in Sweden, but there was also concerns expressed about the risk of errors in the accounts and the declarations, and that they would increase when an auditor is no longer obligated to review them. These errors can result in improperly recognized tax and increased tax error. Tax error includes all errors that have an impact on the reported tax, and they can be both intentional and unintentional. Tax error affects many parties around the company, including the stakeholders operating in the social political arena, so called Stakekeepers. They do not have any direct relation to the company's business, but they have an indirect impact on the company through its influence on public opinion and legislation. These stakeholders' reactions and standingpoints is today a relatively unexplored area within the stakeholder theory, and this theoretical knowledge is important in order to create an understanding of what is happening on the social political arena. As these stakeholders have influence on legislation, the legislators must take their opinions into account in its reports on new legislative changes. During 2015, the government will undertake an assessment of the abolition of the mandatory auditing in 2010, to possibly conduct a further increase in the limits for mandatory auditing, and thus make the audit optional for more companies.

The study aims to describe and explain how stakeholders in the social political arena perceive the tax error development, whether and how they relate this trend to the abolition of the mandatory auditing, and further what motivates and influences their position regarding a possible future limit raise. To meet this objective, the study was performed with a qualitative study in the form of interviews with four different stakeholders from the social political arena.

The analysis of the empirical data, with the support of the theoretical framework, resulted in three conclusions. The first is about the different perceptions regarding the tax development among stakeholders in the social political arena, due to their professional skills. The second is that they are driven and influenced by their representation, particularly if they are representing the public or the private sector. The last conclusion is about the factors that affect how the stakeholders relate to a possible future limit raise. These factors are their representation, responsibility and their trust in larger companies accounting.

Rör sig elever tillräckligt mycket?: En studie om pojkar och flickors fysiska aktivitet på fyra olika skolor2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine the extent to which children's physical activity during school  hours  are  met  in  relation  to  today’s  health  recommendations.  This  study  was  a quantitative  research  method  through  study  with  pedometers  and  observation.  The  main instrument was pedometers which the pupils wore during one day at school. The study group consisted of 74 students, made up of 36 boys and 38 girls from the 4th grade in four schools in  southern Sweden. The  results demonstrate  that  the boys were physical active 47-50 % of what  they should and  the girls 33-36 % of what  they should according  to recommendations. The boys  took about 3000 more  steps  than  the girls.  In our  study only one boy  reached  the recommended  amount  of  steps  per  day,  but  no  girl  did. The  conclusion  is  that  the  pupils  are  inactive  during  their  time  in  school.    There  are differences  in  boys'  and  girls'  physical  activity,  both  within  each  school  and  between  the schools. The observation showed that the girls stand still more than the boys during break and the girls are generally less active than the boys at all four schools.

Läs- och skrivutvecklingsmetoder: - en kvalitativ studie om hur pedagoger uttrycker sina uppfattningar kring sin läs- och skrivundervisning2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Erfarenheter av budgetavskaffande: En studie baserad på två fallstudier i budgetlösa företag 2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Intäktsredovisning: En jämförande studie mellan RFR 2/IFRS 15 och K32018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Revenue recognition is an essential part of accounting theory and is used for determining financial performance. It is also a meaningful measure for stakeholders that use revenue recognition to estimate companies’ financial performance. In 2002 the IASB started a project to develop a new international revenue recognition standard. The reason for this was to increase the comparability across companies and countries as well as develop a more consistent framework for revenue recognition. Unlisted Swedish companies which classifies as larger companies should apply the Swedish regulation K3, but they also have the opportunity to practise the international IFRS regulation by applying the Swedish recommendation RFR 2.

The purpose of this study is to examine possible differences that may arise between the revenue recognition of RFR 2/IFRS 15 and K3 regarding income tax, dividends and financial ratios. The study will also show which regulation is most beneficial from a stakeholder perspective. The stakeholders referred to are the users of the financial statements in IASB’s conceptual framework. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, three hypothetical examples have been designed based on three different industries that are expected to be the most affected of the new revenue recognition standard. The hypothetical examples have then been analyzed based on the application of RFR 2/IFRS 15 and K3. The method for this study is an abductive character and within the frames of qualitative research.

The findings of this study indicate that differences appear between RFR 2/IFRS 15 and K3. The hypothetical examples show that differences occur in the timing and allocation of revenue recognition which have an effect on income tax, dividends and financial ratios. Even though differences occur it is difficult to conclude which regulation is the most beneficial from a stakeholder perspective, based on these hypothetical examples and elements. However, considering RFR 2/IFRS 15 being more comprehensive and detailed than K3, RFR 2/IFRS 15 may be considered more beneficial to stakeholders as it provides stakeholders with more useful and extensive information.

CSR och företagsstrategier: En kvalitativ studie om den paradoxala strävan efter CSR och vinst2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

From a historical perspective, Sweden is a classic example of a social democratic state in view ofits early development of labor movements, democracy and focus on the welfare state. Today, as amember state of the EU, Sweden has however come to be influenced by America’s neoliberalpolities, where companies need to deliver more and better products/services while the consumerawareness and sensitivity has increased about company’s way to invest. Research shows thatScandinavian companies, primarily in Denmark and Sweden, has a leading position when it comesto responsible corporate behavior which has been the reason to our choice of studying howSwedish companies do to achieve success in CSR. To carry out this study, we have usedqualitative analysis, using semi-structures to interview companies in different industry sectors. Allthe companies we interviewed were aware of the paradoxical quest for accumulation andsustainability, largely because of the limitations of resources and regulations. To address thischallenge, companies put a lot of emphasis on work in projects where they’re focusing the wellbeingof its own staff and by setting strict requirements on suppliers. Using previous researcharticles, an organizational theory (Hatch) and Weber’s social actions theory, we’ve tried todevelop our understanding of these phenomena.

Får jag tala om att jag nätdejtar?: en studie om attityder till nätdejting2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

With today's rapid IT development and our increased consumption of IT, the load on the computer halls increases, and there is also an increased environmental impact. To measure the energy reduction in data centers, use is made out of PUE. By reconstructing an existing data center and make it more energy efficient, the energy costs will decrease. Will the investment pay back within 5 years and can the investment handle the municipality's investment return? How sensitive will the investment be to different interest rates? Is it economically viable to make todays data center more energy efficient?

Alternativ television: former av kritik i konstnärlig TV-produktion2012Doctoral thesis, monograph (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This dissertation analyses social critique, communication critique and aesthetical critique in television produced by artists. Theoretically it draws on research on alternative media, TV studies, especially genre analysis and narratology, and media aesthetics. It conducts a text-production study of three examples of alternative television from the period 2004-2008: Contemporary Art Center TV (CAC TV): A show produced by the CAC in Vilnius, Lithuania and aired on a commercial TV-channel; Good TV who aired video art on a local public access channel in Stockholm, Sweden; and Candyland TV, a pirate transmission from an art gallery in central Stockholm.

Empirically it builds on TV-texts, web sites and documents, as well as interviews with participants. Through a study of form and stylistics, relation to conventional genres and modes of narration, it engages in a discussion about the features of a critical, alternative media text.

The study shows how these televisions work in a tradition of alternative television and connects them to tactics and aesthetical forms as found in historical examples, but also how this type of formalist media critique might inform an understanding of alternative media. From the analysis of relations between social and formalist aspects of alternative television, a distinction between alternative as ”alternative worldview” and as ”alternative expressions” is suggested, a distinction that contributes to the development of theory in the study of alternative media.

From closet-fill to toxic sublime: The aesthetics of e-waste2019In: 18th Annual STS Conference Graz 2019: Book of Abstracts, 2019, p. 58-59Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Electronic waste (e-waste) has a peculiar relation to space. It is well-documented how a large part of discarded electronic devices still remain in people’s homes, instead of reaching the recycling centres. This is especially true with digital media and communication technologies such as computers and mobile phones (ironically the devices with the shortest life cycles). This phenomenon has been described by the term “closet-fill” (as opposed to land-fill). However, representations of electronic waste in public discourse such as news reports, seldom focus on this aspect. Instead, they tend to portray e-waste dumping sites as strange, almost alien spaces. Sublime imagery invites the viewer to a contemplation over Western consumerism in a fashion recognizable from visual arts. Consequently, imagery of electronic waste has also become an object of aesthetic value in the works of renowned visual artists such as Pieter Hugo and David LaChapelle, who have gained recognition because of this inclusion of imagery of e-waste in their photographic art. The aim of this paper is to address these aesthetic qualities of electronic waste. The purpose is to contribute to the expanding literature on media materialities and waste with a conceptual understanding of manifestations of electronic waste in popular discourse. The paper draws on theories on media aesthetics, environmental communication and waste management to build an analytic framework that explores the benefits and limitations of presenting electronic waste as an aesthetic object. Empirically it engages in analyses of visual representations of electronic waste. The paper addresses the tension between aesthetic contemplation/appreciation, and critical information. It could be argued that if e-waste is to be presented and understood as an urgent topic, there might be a problem if it is portrayed as something strange, exotic or even beautiful. The concept ”toxic sublime” has been used in analyses of visual representations of pollution, and Peeples (2011: 383) argues that this construction of the toxic as sublime comes with a risk: “It may predispose people to look for toxins in the extraordinary, as opposed to on the shelves of their garages”. It could be argued that e-waste faces a similar problem. The focus on the sublime strangeness of e-waste “dumping sites” is an ineffective way of creating proximity and urgency to the e-waste problem, something that takes place somewhere else than in our homes. LeBel (2015) argues that e-waste aesthetics fails to address the temporal dimension of waste (e.g. planned obsolescence, toxicity). This paper intends to add to that argument by highlighting the tension between the closet-fill and the toxic sublime

Interventionist Aesthetics: Critical Interventions in Television and the Idea of Subversion through Disruption2016Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents a discussion about the prospects and theoretical challenges that interventionist aesthetics have to face in the contemporary media culture. By “interventionist aesthetics” I mean a cultural form that builds on the idea of subversion through disruption. The aim is to reach a more informed understanding of what makes interventions an attractive and widely spread form of expression in contemporary culture. With artistic interventions in the TV medium as its empirical example, the paper argues that interventionist aesthetics often build on more or less spontaneous theories of the media, and in order to understand the critical potential and attraction of contemporary interventions, there are reasons for considering an update of its media theory.

The aim with this paper is to explore the question what critical thinking might mean in a media and information literacy (MIL) context, and do so by investigating how critical thinking is expressed in three reports that relate MIL to radicalization awareness and counter extremism. The purpose is to engage with recent debates about MIL and new research on critical thinking, and contribute to a grounded and theoretically informed foundation for discussing MIL competences. The analysis shows how critical thinking for the most part was referred to in casual terms together with concepts such as democracy, creativity, citizenship. Those descriptions that were more detailed and concrete about what to expect from critical thinking in a MIL-framework come close to what can be described as a gnostic influence: critical thinking as a skill to reveal hidden meanings, to see through propaganda and flawed arguments. In other words, a critical thinking that asks people to doubt what they see.  This understanding is problematized in relation to writings on media literacy and critical thinking.

    Abstract [en]

The article applies Piotr Sztompka’s theory of social becoming on a discussion of media change in the Baltic region. Concentrating on three recurrent categories in the literature on the transformation of the Baltic media landscape – glasnost, mass media and social movements – the article seeks to explore how these categories contributed to shaping the current media landscape. Sztompka’s model of social becoming is an attempt at developing a tool for studying social change without being historically deterministic and at the same time getting round the dichotomisation of structure and actor in social theory. Previously, the model has been applied on analyses of social movements and revolutions. In the article, it is attempted to extend the use to the study of mass media in the Baltic states. It is argued that media change in the Baltic states was an event that drew on external factors such as glasnost and public involvement in social movements, but that the impact of these external factors cannot be separated from each other or from developments inside the media system itself

No Digital “Castles in the Air”: Online Non-Participation and the Radical Left2016In: Media and Communication, ISSN 2083-5701, E-ISSN 2183-2439, Vol. 4, no 4, p. 53-62Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article presents results from a study of online presence in activist milieus associated with the radical left in Sweden discussed from a perspective of non-participation. With the aim to further the understanding of digital non-participation as communicative strategy in activism, it builds upon empirical findings and argues that the online practices and use of social media, as could be observed in milieus associated with the radical left, indicates active non-participation and that this, in turn, is related to the ambition to claim autonomy. The article draws from existing scholarship on critical perspectives on protest movements and social media as well as empirical examples of online content published by radical leftist groups. Furthermore, it analyses how these activities could be understood in terms of active and passive non-participation, abstention or adaptation to social media affordances, as well as implosion of the social in digital media. The findings suggest that much of the activities in the material could be described as active non-participation and that this media practice relates to ideological positioning and values in the milieu. © 2016 by the author

The good life in an age of deep mediatization: Exploring a normative agenda for media studies2019In: Challenging the Field: Communication, Creativity & Imagination, 2019Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim with this paper is to address the perennial question what it means to lead a good life, and to rephrase that question in a context where human life has become enmeshed in digital media for information and communication. The purpose is to contribute to recent debates on mediatization , to relate to the notion of existential health and well-being, and finally to suggest a normative agenda for how media studies can engage with concerns over the role digital media plays in our lives. In doing so I draw on findings from my previous and current research on bystander photography at accident sites, and pathologization of media use as found in the establishment of diagnoses such as interned addiction disorder and gaming disorder. The aim is to illustrate how these phenomena initiate public negotiations and provoke imaginaries about what is a good life in an age of deep mediatization. This approach has normative as well as critical implications.

Central research questions: how has the question of “the good life” been addressed in relation to technology? What definitions or notions of a “good life” are present or implied in public negotiations of digital technology? How can the relation between digital technology and the responsibilities of the welfare state be understood in terms of “the good life”?

”The good life” was introduced as a philosophical problem already in ancient Greece, most notably by Aristotle in the Nicomachean Ethics. Since then it has resurfaced throughout Western history of ideas where it becomes intertwined with intellectual investment in science and technology and the modern project. Critical theory introduced a potential conflict between the rationality that governs technological progress and the rationality of the good life. Recently, the concept of “the good life” attracted media scholars’ attention, and it was the theme for ICA conference 2014. It is also behind the interest in concepts such as ”media life”, ”digital existence”, ”elemental media”, ”deep mediatization”, and the paper engages in a discussion with that research and the question what it means to live a good life under these conditions.

There is No Alternative: The Critical Potential of Alternative Media in the Face of Neoliberalism2012In: tripleC (cognition, communication, co-operation): Journal for a Global Sustainable Information Society / Unified Theory of Information Research Group, ISSN 1726-670X, E-ISSN 1726-670X, Vol. 10, no 2, p. 752-764Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This article was written in order to contribute to a discussion about a critical definition of alternative media. Asking what role alternative media could play in challenging neoliberal discourse in an age where capitalism have become immune to criticism, it elaborates on the concept of "the alternative" and the media through three sections. The first section discusses neoliberalism and the connection between neoliberal doctrine and mainstream media. This connection is described as promoting "public amnesia", financialization and economization of news journalism. The second section discusses alternative media from the perspective of new social movements and symbolic resistance, claiming that the symbolic resistance framework undermines the critical potential of alternative media, it also comments on some recent critical literature on neoliberalism and capitalism. The third section takes examples from artistic explorations of capitalism and television to propose how a distinction between social and formalist aspects of "the alternative" could inform a critical notion of alternative media.

    Abstract [en]

This article presents and discusses results from a study of radical left-wing activism online carried out by the Swedish Media Council, a report that suggested that the Internet (i.e. the web, web 2.0, and social media) is not a prioritized arena for propaganda and recruitment for the radical left in Sweden. The purpose of this article is to re-evaluate some of these findings and add to the discussion on online activity and connectivity in political communication online, as well as to problematize simplified notions of radicalization and recruitment to pro-violent groups. Based on a hermeneutic inquiry regarding modes of communication, representations of political visions, and community, the article shows how the sites and groups studied favor one-way communication before interactivity, that political visions are limited to short-term goals in the immediate future, and that they give very little information about their activist activities to recruit supporters. © The Author(s) 2016

Where Technology Goes to Die: Representation of Electronic Waste in Global Television News2015Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents an analysis of television news stories, aired on global networks, which have been reporting on the problems with electronic waste (e-waste). The main objective is to present a perspective on how a “low-frequency” emergency (i.e. a lengthy and ongoing state of environmental emergency) is presented as a news-worthy issue. Drawing on literature on televised “distant suffering”, the paper engages in a multi-modal text-analysis that addresses three questions:  By what techniques is the e-waste-problem presented as an urgent issue? How is the issue addressed? What relations between the spectator and the problem on display are established through the representation? The findings shows how on-location reports from e-waste dumping sites make use of sublime imagery in the visual representations; how e-waste dumping sites are presented as strange spaces, with no clear and comprehensible history; and finally, that the representations suggests an ambivalence and uncertainty when it comes to agency (who’s responsible, what can be done?). It could be argued that these modes of representation favor a (passive) “aesthetic contemplation” of the waste, rather than possibilities for action and relief.

This article analyzes how electronic waste (e-waste) gets represented in television news stories. The main objective is to present a perspective on how a “low-frequency” emergency (i.e. a lengthy and ongoing state of environmental emergency) is presented as a newsworthy issue. Intervention and participation: A study of children’s involvement in the design of media literacy interventions2018Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents findings from a review of articles about media literacy interventions, with the purpose to discuss the value of child participation in the design of such interventions. The findings indicate that while numerous studies present evaluations of media literacy interventions, it is rare that the design processes behind these interventions are described. The most popular form of media literacy intervention is a school curriculum aimed towards tweens and teens. We argue for a closer attention to the ways in which media literacy interventions are designed in order for us to better understand when child participation can be beneficial.

The kids will have their say?: Child participation in media literacy interventions2017In: NordMedia 2017 – Abstracts: Division 5, Media Literacy and Media Education, 2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents the findings from a scoping review of articles about media literacy interventions, with the purpose to discuss the value of having children to participate in the design of media literacy interventions.

The findings indicate that while numerous studies present evaluations of media literacy interventions, it is rare that the design processes behind these interventions are thoroughly described. Furthermore, the review shows that even though child participation in the implementation of interventions is put forth as important by several studies, it is rare that participation in the design stage is discussed. Finally, the findings show that child participation in the design of media literacy interventions is not considered as a factor for successful media literacy interventions.

The paper ends with a discussion of the implications of these findings for further research on child participation in media literacy interventions. It is argued that we need to pay closer attention to the ways in which media literacy interventions are designed in order for us to better understand what makes them succeed or fail. More specifically, the role of child participation in this respect – not only in terms of listening to their various media-related questions and needs, but also in the sense of actual co-design – must be further examined.

Disaster Tourists, Smartphone Bystanders, Mediated Witnesses or Citizen Journalists? Bystander Theories and Mobile Media Practices at Accident Sites2016In: ECREA 2016 Abstact Book: Mediating (Dis)Continuities: Contesting Pasts, Presents and Futures., Prague: Czech-In , 2016, p. 176-176Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper addresses the phenomenon of bystanders who use their smartphones to film or take photographs at accident scenes, instead of offering their help to people in need or to assist medical units. This phenomenon has been extensively discussed in Swedish news media in recent years, since it has been described as a growing problem for rescue workers, like paramedics, police and fire fighters.

Some of the early literature in social psychology explained bystander inaction by indifference, but in the late 1960’s, the American researchers Darley and Latane showed that bystander inaction could be explained as an effect of the size of the bystander crowd. With an increase of the number of the bystanders, the chances of their involvement to help decreased.

The past decade has seen an growing scholarly interest in “media witnessing”, both in terms of witnessing from a distance through mass media, as discussed by Peters, and “citizen camera-witnessing”, a term popularised by the works of Allan and Andrén-Papadopoulos. This literature recognizes the complexity of concepts such as active/passive and proximity/distance when it comes to media witnessing in the digital era.

Drawn from previous research and theories, the aim of this paper is to discuss how bystander theory can be further developed to include the action of mobile media practices at scenes like accidents. From this perspective, the paper also draws attention to what could be a part of a mediated cultural trauma found in contemporary society and thereby connects to the theme of the conference.

The paper identifies four categories in the literature that are relevant for further research into the phenomenon and to be connected to the framework of bystander theories. These categories are: “disaster tourism”, “citizen (photo) journalism”, “media witnessing”, and “digital media ethics”.

The paper ends with a discussion about possible theoretical approaches to further empirical studies on contemporary bystander phenomena.

Autism, new media and the transformation of "the social"2017Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

People with Asperger Syndrome and high function autism generally suffers from impaired social skills and a strong need for a private space for oneself. In diagnostic classifications of mental illnesses social awkwardness and a strong desire for solitude are viewed as symptoms of mental disorder and as deviances from an imagined normality.

Based on interviews with autistic people and analysis of social interaction between them on a social media platform the aim of this paper is to investigate how new social media transform their situation in various ways. New social media, with its culture of connectivity, reshape how they relate to others and themselves and transform vulnerabilities that are always at play in encounters between human beings. At play are also changing borders between the public and the private as well as the questioning of communicative ideals based on face-to-face encounters.

More specifically we focus on how new social media transforms: 1) vulnerabilities between people in social interaction as well as the “interaction order” that regulates this interaction; 2) what it means to be a social being – and consequently to be involuntary lonely or seeking solitude.

Digitaliseringens framgång: En kunskapsöversikt kring digitala verktyg i biologi.2019Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

During the last decades the structure of the audit market has undergone fundamental changes as a result of the mergers and scandals that have taken place. The number of big audit firms has decreased and the remaining ones dominate even more both nationally and internationally. After the financial crisis in 2008 the European commission has published a green paper on audit policy. Among other things the market concentration is highlighted as a problem. In connection with this we have conducted a study with the following research question: How do auditors at Swedish mid tier audit firms experience the Swedish market for audits of listed companies? The study focuses on four areas, these are: historical background, the Swedish market for audits of listed companies, barriers to entry and measures. To answer the research question we have used a qualitative research method with an abductive approach. The empirical material has been gathered through interviews with auditors at different audit firms, including four personal interviews and one telephone interview. The result of the study shows that auditors at Swedish mid tier audit firms experience the Swedish market for audits of listed companies as concentrated, competitive and desirable. There is a connection between the market concentration and the historical development, the audit firms’ different focus areas and the barriers to entry. Political measures can be adopted for the market concentration but not for internal barriers of entry such as contradictions within the audit firm.

    Abstract [en]

Adoption is one of many ways to start a family on, however, it’s not so common in our society. When adoption is not usual, there is not much knowledge about the adoption process, therefore our aim was to explore the emotions that arise in the adoption process and how they are processed in both the individual and in the affinity. Our aim was to examine how the pairs and the individual dealing with emotions that arise in the adoption process, but also how the norms affect the view of adoptive parents. Then we wanted to see how the individual could go through the adoption process and if the parent group was important. We have performed four interviews with four couples that was part of the same parent group. The materials were analyzed according to three theoretical points, norms according to M. Foucault, T. Scheffs concept of shame and pride and S. Freuds defense mechanisms. By using these theories we concluded that adoption as a family formation is seen as norm-breaking, when the parents choose not to have biological children, our results also showed that parents used the defense to defend against anxiety and depressive feelings in different parts of the adoption process and that the parents' group had a significant impact.

The purpose of this study is to see if there is a relationship between health-promoting leadership and employee’s well-being. According to the hypothesis, and with knowledge in the field, individuals with high well-being should experience health-promoting leadership. The study was conducted with quantitative method using a questionnaire survey. Study participants consisted of 63 employees from health-care in southern Sweden. Results shows that there is a correlation between health-promoting leadership and employee’s well-being at the investigated workplace. The result in our study indicates that the correlation that earlier research concluded about health-promoting leadership and well-being is confirmed. However, future research should focus on making the link between health-promoting leadership and well-being clearer to gain further understanding of how the relationship works.

    Abstract [sv]

Reala optioner: Vad påverkar tillämpningen i privata fastighetsbolag?2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The real estate market in Sweden in the current situation is found to be very attractive, which in return is influenced by number of elements such as interest rates, market conditions, etc. Real estate investments result in relatively large amounts, that is why investors like to be relatively sure regarding their investments, or at least that they are knowing to get their investment back in case of a sale. Real options are a complement to the calculation real estate companies does. Real options are used to take alternative solutions in regard, and also to contribute alternative values to the investment, which is mainly used if an investments outcome is not as desired. As a result to this complement to the calculation we wished to study the following: What can influence the application of real options in a real estate investing decision in private real estate companies?

This study was done with a deductive method, and because of that a theoretical reference frame were formed, and afterwords investigate if the theoretical facts agreed with reality. To be able to compare the theoretical parts and the empirical parts, it was important that the empirical part was relevant to our subject. For the empirical fact to be as relevant as possible, this study was performed with a qualitative approach, and therefor four private real estate companies were interviewed, two bigger and two smaller. The real estate companies interviewed are active in the southern parts of Sweden.

This study results in four conclusions drawn on the basis of the four interviewed real estate companies, regarding what can influence the application of real options in a investment decision. Three of the real estate companies finds that the risks with commercial real estates, and the external factors which influence market conditions affect their application of alternative solutions regarding their investments. All four of the real estate companies find that new incoming information and the experience, which the decision maker holds, affects application of real options. Thus, real estate companies must be able to know when and what alternative solutions to apply.

    Abstract [en]

The theory chapter is based on a model about brand identity, “Brand Identity Prism” (Kapferer, 2008, s.183). This model contains six elements which we have supplemented with theories about personal branding. This because the focus and theory on a person's brand identity is almost non-existent. The purpose of the study is therefore to examine how editors at fashion magazines are working with their brand identity in the personal brand and thereby create an understanding of the identity function. The question our study aims to answer is: "How do editors of fashion magazines work with their brand identity?"

To meet the objective and to answer the question formulation we have chosen to use a qualitative research method with a semi-structured interview. Interviews are conducted with Charlotta Flinkenberg, Hermine Coyet-Ohlén, Mona Johansson and Per Nilsson. All interviews are presented in chapter four "Empiri" and analyzed in subsequent chapters.

The analysis of our respondents’ answers generated a modified model of Kapferers' Brand Identity Prism (Kapferer, 2008, s.183). We argue that this modified model shows a more clear picture of each of the factors impact on the personal brand identity.

The results of the study show that culture, with values and core values as key concepts, serve as a base for the work with the personal brand identity.

    Abstract [en]

In the early 2000s several major accounting scandals occurred in the world, which led to a crisis of confidence in the audit. ISA was introduced as a response to the 2000s auditing scandals that attracted international attention and aims to improve audit quality and consistency of the world. The study's aim is to gain understanding on the experiences auditors have with the implementation of ISA by describing and analyzing the auditors' experiences of the impact ISA brought on audit quality. The problem that this study based on is the following: How do the Auditors feel that the auditing quality has changed since ISA was implemented in Sweden? We have used a qualitative method with an abductive approach where both the theoretical framework and the empirical material has been the starting point for our study. The collection of empirical data consisted of personal interviews with eight auditors. The sample of respondents included both authorized and approved auditors from both Big-4 and non-Big-4 firms. Our study demonstrates that the audit quality hasn’t necessarily increased after the implementation of ISA, which was the purpose of the new auditing standards. The study further show that ISA´s not optimal for small businesses and diversified regulatory audits of small businesses can benefit small businesses where the cost today is greater than the benefit of the new auditing standards. ISA has also meant that the audit today become more expensive to implement, because more operations are required and the documentation has become more extensive, which takes time away from other review procedures.

SJÄLVKÄNSLA, PERFEKTIONISM, TÄVLINGSÄNGSLAN OCH SJÄLVFÖRTROENDE HOS TÄVLANDE IDROTTARE2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
