Lernen im Schatten der Gymnasialreform in Schweden2015In: Die UN-Behindertenrechtskonvention und ihre Umsetzung: Beiträge zur Interkulturellen und International vergleichenden Heil- und Sonderpädagogik / [ed] Annette Leonhardt, Katharina Müller & Tilly Truckenbrodt, Bad Heilbrunn: Verlag Julius Klinkhardt, 2015, p. 266-272Chapter in book (Refereed)
    Abstract [de]

Unga män med utländsk härkomst och gängkriminalitet2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Regulating Collaboration: The Legal Framework of Collaborative Governance in Ten European Countries2019In: International Journal of Public Administration, ISSN 0190-0692, E-ISSN 1532-4265Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Many scholars have considered when and why collaboration between government agencies and societal actors occurs. This article argues that a simple but largely overlooked answer to these questions is that a formal legal or administrative requirement to do so is in place. Therefore, the objective is to substantiate whether there are legal requirements to collaborate and in what type of source and context this obligation applies in ten European countries. The main finding is that collaboration is underpinned by an extensive range of legal requirements in Europe, although imposing these requirements is generally not the main objective. © 2019 The Author(s).

Career barriers in the National Hockey League: An inductive thematic analysis of first-hand data from Canadian professional ice hockey players2019In: International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, ISSN 1612-197X, E-ISSN 1557-251X, Vol. 50, no 5, p. 448-468Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The objectives of the study were: (a) to examine the Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) players’ internal and external barriers associated with the demands at each NHL career stage and status together with across-career barriers, and (b) to feature the Canadian NHL players’ barriers in the empirical career model. Five rookies, five veterans, and 13 retirees agreed to participate in conversational interviews before their transcripts underwent an interpretive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2012). Prospects face draft year pressure and team camp anxiety. Rookies and sophomores deal with insecurity with teammates and roster spot uncertainty. Prime veterans have to manage ruminating over missed chances while seasoned veterans struggled with social connections. Across career stages and statuses, NHL players deal with career threatening injuries and conflicts with head coach. After discussing how these results contribute to the empirical career model of Canadian NHL players and also extend the career transition and maladaptation literatures, delimitations and future directions are proposed for sport psychology researchers.

Coping strategies and resources in the National Hockey League: An inductive thematic analysis with Canadian professional ice-hockey players2017In: Conference Abstracts: 32nd Annual Conference AASP2017, Orlando, FL, October 18-21, Indianapolis: Association for Applied Sport Psychology , 2017, p. 17-18Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Canadian ice-hockey players must overcome numerous stressors throughout their National Hockey  League (NHL) careers. Though sport psychology researchers have conducted preliminary studies, theoretical restrictions, small participant numbers, and the use of a structured interview guide have limited breadth of knowledge. Our authors constructed a comprehensive empirical career model by eliciting 23 Canadian NHL players. The intent in the presentation is to feature the stressors, barriers, coping strategies and resources utilised at each status and career stage. Five rookies, five veterans, and 13 retirees agreed to participate in conversational interviews before their transcripts underwent an interpretive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2012). Prospects seeking to gain entry into the NHL needed (a) realistic expectations of draft pressures, (b) training camp expectations, (c) identify the team’s needs, and (d) if demoted, readjust their expectations. Rookies developing  as NHL p layers needed a high compete level when called-up while sophomores developed by (a) knowing their opponents, (b) generating role player production, and (c) made friendships. Veterans seeking to be All-Stars coped by (a) practicing scoring and creating scoring chances, and (b) showing Stanley Cup determination. Seasoned veterans extended their careers by preserving their physique. The authors will discuss the practical applications for sport psychology consultants tasked with ensuring that professional ice-hockey players move effectively through career transitions including entering the NHL, developing as an NHL players, reaching the NHL elite, and maintaining NHL play involvement. The authors will also speak about teammates, coaches, and support staff hoping to be effective resources to their players’ career progression. © 2017 by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology

Stages and demands in the careers of Canadian National Hockey League players2015In: Journal of Sports Sciences, ISSN 0264-0414, E-ISSN 1466-447X, Vol. 34, no 3, p. 278-288Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Researchers have identified some demands of Canadian National Hockey League (NHL) players, yet there is little direction for players hoping to reach the lucrative league. The objectives of this study were to identify the stages, statuses and demands in Canadian NHL players’ careers and propose an empirical career model of Canadian NHL players. In total, 5 rookies, 5 veterans and 13 retirees had their interviews undergo an interpretive thematic analysis. Prospects face the NHL combine, training camp and minor league assignment. While developing into NHL players, rookies deal with NHL call-ups, team competition and formative production while sophomores seemed preoccupied by the opposition. Prime veterans become All-Stars by garnering point production and challenging for the Stanley Cup while seasoned veterans remain relevant through training camps. A discussion about the model’s viability is followed by applications for sport psychology researchers and practitioners. © 2015 Taylor & Francis

Coping resources and strategies of Canadian ice-hockey players: An empirical National Hockey League career model2019In: International journal of sports science & coaching, ISSN 1747-9541, E-ISSN 2048-397X, Vol. 14, no 6, p. 726-737Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Sport psychology researchers have studied careers of Canadian ice hockey players in the National Hockey League (NHL) and devised an empirical NHL career model (Authors, 2015; in press). The model was comprised of career stages, statuses, demands and barriers to career progression without any indication of coping. The intent in the present article is to feature coping resources and strategies utilized by players during each status and career stage within the empirical model. Five rookies, five veterans, and 13 retirees participated in conversational interviews and the data underwent a deductive thematic analysis (Braun & Clarke, 2012). Prospects seeking to gain entry into the NHL set controllable expectations rather than playing to impress coaches and staff. Most prospects played in the minor leagues where they adjusted their expectations to accept roles that they were likely to have during an NHL call-up. The career stage of developing as an NHL player was about rookies producing immediately in their role while holding off internal competition for their roster spot. In the same stage, sophomores were in their second full NHL season and they studied their opponents to avoid the sophomore slump. The stage of reaching the NHL elite involved constant pressure for point production and winning playoff games. The final stage was about seasoned veterans maintaining NHL play involvement by preserving their physique despite being worn down from long careers in a contact sport. The authors will discuss the significance of the model for sport psychology researchers and practitioners, and NHL stakeholders. © The Author(s) 2019.

Varför avböjer föräldrar att vaccinera sina barn: En integrativ litteraturstudie2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Background:Vaccination density has decreased in society. The primary concerns are the combination vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR). To decline vaccination leads to measles being re-established in the society. Measles is one of the most contagious infection diseases that exists, the risk of secondary diseases is substantial which affects 20% of the population. If the vaccination density goes below 95% measles is in the risk of being reaffirm in society. Method:A integrative literature study with article searches conducted in the database Academic Search Elite, Cinahl, PubMed and Social Service Abstract and resulted in 13 relevant articles.  Results:The study shows that most parents experienced that they did not get enough information from the health care sector. They searched for information on websites or through other parents. Therefore, credible information is necessary when visiting the children's health care and to distribute information sheets on different languages to reach those with different cultures. Conclusion and implication:The study shows how important it is with credible information about the vaccines for parents being able to take a stand. Knowledge makes it easier for healthcare personals to set up strategies to teach and inform doubtful parents. Increased knowledge gained from ongoing research in the subject, which increases the opportunities for WHO to reach the goal of eliminating measles.

Longitudinal associations between perceived programme quality, basic needs support and basic needs satisfaction within youth sport: A person-centred approach2018In: International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, ISSN 1612-197X, E-ISSN 1557-251XArticle in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Acknowledging the importance of longitudinal data to test process-based psychological theories of motivation is critical. The purpose of this study was to use a person-centred approach to identify unique subgroups (i.e. profiles) of youth athletes based on their level of self-reported programme quality (PQ) and basic needs support mid-way through their sport season and investigate potential differences between the subgroups on their self-reported basic needs satisfaction at the end of the sport season. The current study involved 541 Canadian youth athletes (males n = 289; females n = 250; gender-fluid n = 2) within 52 sport programmes over the course of 18 months. Youthathletes ranged in age from 8 through 19 (M = 13.76, SD = 2.61). A latent profile analysis (LPA) in Mplus 8.0 was used to carry out the analyses. The LPA revealed three distinct profiles based on youth athletes’ levels of self-reported PQ and basic needs support. Specifically, athletes who perceived their sport experience to be of higher quality and supported their basic psychological needs midway through the sport season also reported higher levels of basic needs satisfaction at season end. Results from this study contribute to the field of sport psychology through understanding how basic needs theory contributes to the dimensions of programme quality and by informing recommendations for future coach education on how to satisfy youth athletes’ basic psychological needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness through programmedelivery. © 2018 International Society of Sport Psychology

“Organizing for Excellence”: Stress-Recovery States in the Danish National Orienteering Team during a Training Camp and the 2015 World Championship2017In: Scandinavian Sports Studies Forum, ISSN 2000-088X, Vol. 8, p. 87-111Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Elite athletes push themselves physically and psychologically to their limits in order to develop as athletes and to deliver top performances. To succeed, the athletes must manage their energy. This is particularly important in the periods of high demand on the athletes’ resources (Kellmann, Altenburg, Lormes, & Steinacker, 2001). These include training camps and competitions, because such events are generally intense and likely to induce increased stress, and their schedules often do not allow sufficient time for recovery (Elbe & Kellmann, 2007; Foster, Snyder, & Welsh, 1999). In 2015, the Danish national orienteering coach decided, as a new initiative, to include a three-week training camp in their preparation for the World Championship. The coach was aware that such a long period of intense focus on orienteering would require efficient energy management in the athletes. Therefore, the coach supported the research team in this study aimed at monitoring the athletes’ stress-recovery states during the preparatory camp and the World Championship, with further exploration of the athletes’ perceived sources of stress and recovery during the same period. From a research perspective, the present study is exclusive because of monitoring world-class athlete-participants during their preparation and participation in their most important event. From an applied perspective, searching for efficient processes for energy management during long-term training camps and competitions might become a frontier for improvement of athletes’ preparation and performance.

"Organizing for excellence": stress-recovery states in the Danish national orienteering team during a training camp and the 2015 World Championship2017In: Sport psychology: Linking theory to practice: Proceedings of the 14th ISSP World Congress of Sport Psychology / [ed] G. Si, J. Cruz and J.C. Jaenes, 2017, p. 639-640Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Elite level athletes are under considerable pressure to perform, why energy management is a natural part of the life of elite athletes. Energy management is particularly important during periods of high demand on their resources, such as during training camps and competitions, which are often intense and do not allow sufficient time for recovery. Research on recovery has mainly focused on individual physical and physiological strategies. In the 2015 World Championship, the Danish national orienteering team was the best nation, winning four gold medals. In the present study we examined: (a) the stress-recovery states of the Danish orienteers during a three-week preparatory training camp and the following 2015 World Championship, and (b) their perceived sources of stress and recovery during the two events. The study was designed as mixed-method with the RESTQ-sport questionnaire, semi-structured interviews, and a coach’s journal as the data sources used longitudinally during the camp and the championship. Results revealed: (a) well-balanced stress-recovery states among all athletes during the entire period; and (b) perceived sources of stress and recovery classified into organizational, social, personal, and athletic. The athletes themselves stated that their well-balanced stress-recovery states positively affected their learning, well-being, and performance. The organizational strategies played a key role in reducing athletes’ unnecessary stress and in facilitating individual recovery. We suggest that “organizing for excellence”, keeping in mind athletes' energy management, is a special task for coaches and managers when preparing for camps and competitions.

Adolescenters upplevelser av sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsåtgärder och behandlingar vid depression2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Mental illness among adolescents aged 10-19 years increases and there are several reasons why they suffer from it. Causes such as the desire of body change, increased accessibility and internet usage, pressure to fit in and exploration of sexual identity can affect the mental health. Depression is one of the leading causes of mental illness progression among adolescents. The purpose was to investigate how adolescents with depression experience nursing interventions and treatments. To answer the purpose, a literature study was conducted with article searches in three different databases. The result led to three main categories in this study: The nursing intervention physical activity as exercise was perceived to improve self-esteem, The nursing intervention participation was perceived to create a sense of security and the third category Treatments with focus on changes in thoughts and emotions was perceived to give insight. It is important to understand the adolescents’ experience of nursing interventions and treatment for depression because it gives an awareness into how they receive it.

    Abstract [en]

Background: The purpose of the gynecological examination is to evaluate and promote reproductive health among women. The gynecological examination is divided into three different stages, where the first stage includes an examination of the external parts of the female genital organs. Thereafter an examination of the internal parts of the organ and the abdomen are performed. Aim: The aim of the study was to illuminate women’s experiences of the gynecological examination. Method: A general literature study was used, with the guidance of a simple version of content analysis. The literature study was conducted through structured information retrieval in three databases focusing on nursing research. After the information retrieval was completed, a review and analysis was conducted on chosen qualitative and quantitative articles for further compilation of the result.  Result: The result was allocated into the following main categories: (1) Experiences of discomfort associated with the gynecological examination and (2) Experiences of promotive factors related to the experience of the gynecological examination. Conclusion: It was demonstrated that many women experience the gynecological examination as discomforting, where feelings of anxiety, worry, fear, exposure, loss of control and mistrust illuminated some of the discomfort. The incidence of adequate information, a good approach and communication were some factors that contributed to the experience. Some women found the presence of a nurse during the examination as substantial.

Närståendes upplevelse vid oväntade dödsfall: En litteraturstudie2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The study addresses whether some office working graduates experienced stress as a result of a seemingly favorable work environment with a high degree of demands, control and support. The issue concerns which work environment factors that were perceived to cause high stress, whether any of these factors were previously known as salutogenic and whether these factors could be behind any differences in perceived stress between departments. Collection of empirical data was done using interviews with ten respondents, nine women and one man, from two different departments within the same organization. Questions were asked regarding the respondents' experience of demands, control, support, commitment and work related stress. The results showed that the degree of stress varied between departments, mainly due to an imbalance between demand and control and deficient instrumental social support within one department. Furthermore, the authors found that previously known salutogenic factors, such as control and social contacts were shown to have had negative consequences for the respondents' mental health. In addition, the authors found unclear job descriptions to be a contributing factor to the work-related stress in both departments.

Tillbaka till skolbänken: Vuxna patienter diagnostiserade med typ 2-diabetes upplevelser av patientundervisning2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Type 2-diabetes is a widespread disease that places high demands on knowledge in the patients living with the disease, the complications are many but possible to be affected by the patients themselves. Patients diagnosed with type 2- diabetes require education to obtain good self-care ability, which minimizes the onset of complications. Nurses educate patients diagnosed with type 2-diabetes as part of the nursing work to promote health and reduce complications. The purpose of the literature study was to elucidate how adult patients diagnosed with type 2-diabetes experienced patient education. The study was conducted as a general literature study, with an inductive approach. Four categories emerged in the literature study's results: The learnings activities importance, the character and attitude of the teacher, insight in the disease and self-confidence and the relevance of the information. Both patient education in group form and individually were experienced positive, criticism was directed at the lack of individualized education. It was found in the literature study that the patients' experiences of the teacher affected whether the teaching was favorable or not. Patients' self-care ability was experienced to increase. To a large extent, the patients perceived information given during the education to be relevant. Patients' experiences should be taken into account when designing patient education, training of nurses, and of nurses in clinical practice. The motivation is that teaching should be as beneficial to patients diagnosed with type 2-diabetes as possible.

    Abstract [en]

The work environment of the emergency department is stressful and dynamic. It had a constant high flow of patient, who need an urgent multiple care and nurse care. The most common transition of information between nurse´s is the patient handover, where the information is used for the care and the nursing care. Patient safety is jeopardized in case of lack of communication, where essential information is unfulfilled in the case of handover, both within and between different professions in health care. Lack of communication causes frequently health injuries and the emergency department is the section at the hospital where handover is most common. The purpose was to investigate which factors are important for the nurse's handover at the emergency department to occur safe for the patient. A literature study was conducted which was based on 10 articles of quantitative and qualitative methods. The results revealed two main categories with five associated subcategories: Handover within the emergency department; The importance of a structure, The work environment´s importance and The teamwork´s importance. Handover to and from the emergency department; The importance of creating an overall picture and The importance of cooperation between units within health organizations. Factors which affected the handover and accordingly the patient safety was unstructured clinical handover model, shift changes, interruptions, the environment for handoffs, interruptions, clarity, collaboration in team and between organizations, working experience, working relationships, health cultures, and ethical issues. Further research needs to highlight the factors of importance in the handover for the nurse on emergency departments.

    Abstract [en]

The study is based on a health promotion perspective and involves studying workplace learning on a communal dietary unit in Sweden. The Aim: The aim of this study was from a health promotion perspective examine employees experiences of workplace learning at individual- and group level. Method: The study has been made on a qualitative approach and results have been collected through three focus group interviews. In total, nine people participated from the communal dietary unit. The study's results have been analyzed abductive through a health promotion perspective. Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework of this essay had its foundation in educational and health promotion areas with focus on workplace learning and wellness factors. The educational approach is based on experiential learning. The study relates to health factors as concepts and approaches, for example through social relationships and participation. Conclusion: The study shows the importance of social interactions and to share each other's experience for workplace learning. The groups indicate that workplace learning is experienced in daily work situations at a group level, but no major effort and investment is experienced in this regard. Creating conditions for this would promote development at both group- and individual level. From a health promotion perspective, all learning factors mentioned above can benefit the well-being and continuous development of employees.

Att uppleva meningsfullhet som äldre vid depression: En litteraturstudie om sjuksköterskans omvårdnadsåtgärder vid depression hos äldre2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Anxiety as a mediating factor of perfectionism and needs thwarting in relation to exercise dependence in team sports2020Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The main aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between exercise dependence, basic psychological needs, perfectionism and anxiety. Specifically, the purpose was to examine if the relationship between psychological needs thwarting and exercise dependence as well as socially prescribed perfectionism and exercise dependence was mediated by anxiety. Participants were 59 team sport athletes with the mean age 20.36 years from twelve different team sport clubs in Sweden. Data were analysed using PROCESS tool in the program Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS). The PROCESS analysis indicated that anxiety did not mediate the relationship between psychological needs thwarting and exercise dependence or socially prescribed perfectionism and exercise dependence. Further, the results showed that needs thwarting and perfectionism had a direct effect on exercise dependence. This indicates that needs thwarting and socially prescribed perfectionism should be considered risk factors for exercise dependence in team sports. Anxiety did not predict exercise dependence. Based on the findings, exercise dependence is a complex process where different personal and social factors interact. Further research is recommended to increase the understanding about potential risk factors and mediating mechanisms that can explain how exercise dependence develop in team sports.

Sjuksköterskors attityder till smärtbehandling av patienter med opioidmissbruk2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Patients with an opioid addiction may be perceived to have a socially deviant behavior which may lead to social stigmatization. To see patients as socially deviant in healthcare can lead to that they receive worse care and treatment than what they are entitled to. Pain is a subjective experience, where the patient has an individual perception of his pain and can not be compared with another's experience of pain. The purpose of the study was to examine nurses' attitudes to pain treatment of patients with opioid addiction. A systematic literature review was conducted consisting of 11 scientific articles. The results culminated in three categories: Attitudes towards patients with opioid addiction, Attitudes to the subjective pain and attitudes associated with experience and lack of knowledge. The results showed that nurses have negative attitudes towards patients with opioid addiction. The nurses were aware that patients with a previous or current opioid addiction experienced pain needed a higher dose of pain medication, they were perceived nonetheless as they lied to get an increased dose of opioids. The study highlighted a lack of knowledge of nurses regarding addiction and dependence, which could lead to a judgment of patients with opioid addiction. For further studies there is a need to study how patients with opioid addiction experienced nurses' attitudes in the caring encounter.

    Abstract [en]

A central part of the nursing profession is the supervision in clinical practice of nursing students and a consequence of this is that the nurse needs to be prepared and have sufficient knowledge to support student's learning process. The aim of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of nurses' experiences of the supervision of nursing students in clinical practice. Fifteen nurses with experience of being supervisor were interviewed and the data material was analyzed with a Grounded Theory approach. The results comprise a core category “supervision was perceived as developing and stimulation” and four categories; to have sufficient with time, to have a working co-operation, to have sufficient knowledge and to get confirmation. These categories formed a conceptual model explaining the nurse’s experiences of the process of supervision and their needs of time, co-operation, knowledge and confirmation if the supervision should be perceived as developing and stimulating. More research needs to be conducted to expand the perspective on how supervision education and opportunities for reflection during the clinical education contribute to the student's learning process.

    Abstract [en]

Healthiness in childhood gives conditions for a healthy life as an adult. The schools organisation and environment creates unique possibilities for health promotional work aimed at children. The school nurse plays an important role through the regular health visits performed during the school years. To meet children of different ages raises demands on the school nurses ability to communicate and mediate health messages. Health Promotion Model is used as a theoretical frame for the study. The aim of the study was to describe school nurses perceptions of communicating health with pupils in the fourth grade. The study was carried out as a qualitative study with an inductive approach. Six interviews with school nurses were held and the material was analysed with a phenomenografic method. The result of the study describes the school nurses perceptions of health communication with pupils in the fourth grade as a complex task. Three descriptive categories emerged; The relations has significance for health communication, The school nurse has a supporting role in helping the pupil to communicate its own health and The competence of the school nurse has significance for a good health communication. The categories are bound together by the word trust. The result of the study can be used within the school nurses own profession to create a wider understanding of health communication with pupils in the fourth grade. There is a need for further research regarding the pupils perceptions of health communication and also regarding the obstacles that the nurses describes. Research to develop three part communication between child-school nurse-parent is also of importance.

Musikintervention: Att använda musik för att lindra smärta2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Pain in all its dimensions is a state of ill health as well as a problem that affects the entire life-world of the individual. At the same time, music is something that all individuals have a subjective experience of what it means and how the body and mind are affected by its rhythm, harmony and melody. Therefore the study aimed to investigate how music as an intervention was perceived as a relief in pain. A literature study was used as method, where 11 scientific articles of both qualitative and quantitative approach was reviewed. The result was divided by code words and placed under the different pain dimensions. The result demonstrated that the music affected the individual's experience of pain in all of the dimensions. The physiological dimension, which focused on the physiological causes of the pain appeared most strongly influenced by the music intervention. Weakest influence the music had on the socio-cultural dimension, which focused largely on how the pain was manifested in the surroundings of the individual. The results also revealed that the most important thing for music intervention to be perceived as reliving in pain was that the piece of music was sufficiently appreciated by the individual.

    Abstract [en]

The aging population is increasing in several countries in the world, which leads to an increase in people with a dementia disease. There is a development work to improve homecare so that the dementia can live at home. For carers who live with a dementia, life changes and the new change can become very demanding, leading to a mental and physical strain. Today, various e-health-based solutions are offered in care. The solutions are presented as a complement to traditional hospital care, when care can be conducted at home. The purpose of the study was to describe the carers experiences of e-health in connection with homecare for a dementia. The study was conducted as an integrative literature study, which gives a deeper understanding of a particular phenomenon in health care. The literature study results are based on 16 scientific articles. The analysis revealed five themes: Improved quality of life, emotional support, increased knowledge, simpler everyday life and technical challenges. EHealth proves to have a positive impact on quality of life, the carers felt safer and found a better balance for working in everyday life. Carers also described that ehealth was an effective way of gaining new knowledge and that it was convenient because they saved resources and energy compared to a visit to a clinic. Although technical challenges arose, the close carers were pleased with e-health-based solutions.

    Abstract [en]

The encounter with suicidal patients can occur in different departments depending ontheir need for somatic health care after suicide attempts. There is a need for broaderinterdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge about the encounter and care ofsuicidal patients as low experience in this area can create a risk of poor understandingand treatment of this patient. The nurses’ ignorance and fear to meet these patientsimpede adequate care. The aim was to highlight what knowledge nurses need to carefor patients in somatic departments who have survived suicide attempts. A literaturereview was used as method and included five qualitative and four quantitative articlesthat resulted in two themes and six categories. The first theme Approach in care ofpatients after attempted suicide had the subcategories: radiate hope and empathy;reflect on ones own attitudes, barriers and professional role; understand theimportance of good communication. The second theme Individualized holistic carefor prevention of further suicide attempts had the subcategories: see the whole person;identify risk factors and stressors; find resources for the will to live. The result can bethe implemented in clinical practice to provide nurses with greater knowledge andunderstanding of treatment, personalized guidance, patient safety and the preventionof further suicide attempts. There is an obvious need for updated guidelines, suggestions for continuing aftercare and further research on how suicidal patientsshould be treated in health care.

    Abstract [en]

Background: Children spend an increasing amount of time on sedentary activities. A project aimed at children in need of increasing their physical activity level was therefore initiated to prevent overweight and obesity, but also to increase children's involvement in agility and togetherness. Aim: To highlight a physical activity project aimed at children between the ages of 9-13, from the perspectives of the adults. Method: Seven semi-structured interviews were conducted with people involved in the project. The interviews were analyzed with qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in two main categories: “Children and adults in a physical activity project ” and “To be leaders in an activity promotion project”. The informants described the project as an open and prestige less activity which created feelings of togetherness in the children and strengthened and increased their self-esteem. The children's attitude towards physical activity also showed increased pleasure and joyness for being physically active and agile. The results show the importance of custom-made projects for sedentary children. Conclusion: A custom-made physical activity project amenable for sedentary children where they can be themselves, and develop with other children and adults, creates an increased joy for physical activity and being agile.

Dödshjälp eller livshjälp?: Sjuksköterskors upplevelser av palliativ sedering2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Nurses’ role in the palliative care is to promote autonomy, quality of life and relieve suffering. Palliative sedation is a treatment method that aims to reduce unbearable suffering, but leads to a reduced level of consciousness and limitation of autonomy which the nurse contributes to. The aim of the study was to examine nurses' experiences of palliative sedation. The study was conducted as a general literature study, guided by content analysis based on an inductive approach. The results of the literature study reveals that nurses’ experience an ambivalence in the participation of palliative sedation. Nurses' experience ethical dilemmas when the desire to do what seems best for the patient, is inadequate to depriving patient autonomy and fear of hastening death. Guidelines nor the knowledge of palliative sedation are seen enough to provide nurses’ with comfort in their work with palliative sedation. An establishment of regulations and national guidelines are therefor of value to promote good care on equal terms.

    Abstract [en]

Diabetes progresses towards a public health issue worldwide and the prevalence increases. The illness causes several complications, which lower limb amputation is one of the more lifechanging complications. Patients’ experience of lower limb amputation is of interest to identify, which could increase nurses understanding and knowledge about the patients’ situation and the nurse’s ability to perform a safe and loving care. The aim of this study was to describe patients experience of undergoing a lower limb amputation caused by diabetes. The study was conducted as a general literature study with an inductive approach. Nine articles were found that matched this study’s aim and were reviewed and compiled. Main findings of the study results in three categories; lack of information, need for support and emotional roller coaster. The patients describe a lack of information about life and daily living after the amputation and the process towards being independent. Family and friends describes as very supportive by some patients and others find a equal support in professionals. The emotional roller coaster describes as feelings that are pendulating between injustice, relief, panic and gratefulness after the amputation. Recommendations towards nurses are that they should use standardized and individual care plans as an aid in their daily work around the patient to ensure good and person-centered nursing care.

Det fysiska rummets betydelse för samhörighet och identitet hos studenter på Högskolan i Halmstad2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Nyckelord: Offentliga platser, studenter, social sammanhållning, attraktiva mötesplatser, Högskolan i Halmstad

Patienters upplevelser av att behandlas med medicinsk cannabis vid kronisk smärta: En litteraturstudie2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Chronic pain is a widespread issue and conventional analgesic treatment is insufficient for many patients. Medical cannabis (MC) is discussed today as a pain management alternative but more research is recommended in the field to determine the risks associated with short-term and long-term treatment. The aim of this literature-based study was to explore patient´s experiences of MC as an analgesic treatment in chronic pain. An inductive approach was chosen, of which three articles with a qualitative approach, seven articles with a quantitative approach and a mixed-method article were included in the result. An analysis of the content was conducted and themes with associated subthemes were designed. The result presents different aspects that affect the experience of MC as a treatment. Stigmatization related to MC was found to occur from both the surrounding sphere and healthcare staff. Reduced pain-intensity, increased quality of life and reduction of other drugs were reported. The literature study shows that nurses should acquire knowledge about the drug as well as the experience of it, in order to respond to and inform patients who request this treatment for chronic pain. Nurses also need to be aware of the potential risks of the drug with, for example, adverse effects and risk of further abuse, and work proactively to avoid this.

    Abstract [sv]

Patienters upplevelse av livskvalitet vid palliativ vård i hemmet: En litteraturstudie2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

An increased number of patients choose to end their life in home environments, with support from palliative efforts from home care services. Since quality of life is an important goal in palliative care, knowledge of the nurse regarding which factors that affect the quality of life in the patients is important. The aim was to through a literature study explore what affected the patient´s experience of quality of life in conjunction with palliative care in the home environment. The result was from ten scientific articles, whereof two qualitative articles, seven quantitative articles and one with mixed method, which resulted in two main categories: Physical and psychological symptoms and psychosocial factors. The result showed that if both physical and psychological symptoms were alleviated, the patient´s quality of life increased. The result also deals with how the nurse in the palliative care can give the patient relevant information, support, security and hope, which also increases the quality of life. By as a nurse be able to give the patient time, both security and quality of life were increased. Something that emerged in the result was that a large proportion of patients suffered from depression, further research is needed for the development of easy-use-screening instruments. Nurses need continuous competence development in palliative care, to be able to develop new skills for the ability to take relevant care measures to be able to increase the perceived quality of life in the patients in the palliative phase.

Oro hos den perioperativa patienten: Bakomliggande faktorer och anestesisjuksköterskans åtgärder2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Högt tryck på hälsan: En metasyntes om hur glaukom påverkar livet2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Glaucoma is a progressive chronic disease that slowly decreases visual perception. In order to optimize and individualize the care to people living with glaucoma, the ophthalmic nurse needs to understand the impact glaucoma has on daily life. The aim of this metha-synthesis is to present a synthesis of current research concerning experiences of living with glaucoma. The results of this metha-synthesis indicates that the feelings and experiences of living with glaucoma are coherent internationally. Glaucoma has both an emotional impact and an effect of the perceived autonomy. The treatment and regularly contacts with healthcare providers disturbs daily life. In order to improve the perceived health, persons with glaucoma need knowledge, how to cope with the different dimensions of the disease and the treatment. If the ophthalmic nurse, more efficiently could identify the areas in need of care, health promoted, check-up intervals prolonged, and the costs of healthcare reduced. Further research is needed concerning what persons living with glaucoma would prefer the healthcare to focus on, as well as the socioeconomic impact of their preferences.

Distriktssköterskans förhållningssätt till hälsolitteracitet i bemötandet av patienter på en vårdcentral2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Health literacy is the patient's cognitive ability to understand and apply health information. According to Henderson's nursing theory the nurse should understand and assist the patient who does not have sufficient motivation, knowledge or strength to independently achieve health. The aim of this study was to identify the district nurses' attitude to health literacy in their treatment of patients at a medical centre. The study was a qualitative interview study with an inductive approach. Five district nurses from three medical centres were interviewed using an interview guide based on semi-structured questions. A qualitative content analysis was performed and revealed the following theme; the district nurse encouraged patient participation through an approachable and committed approach to health literacy. Three categories were identified; strive for trust, adapt to the patient and encourage empowerment. The district nurses described that they strived to create insight and motivation to encourage them to participate in their own health care. None of the district nurses in this pilot study were familiar with the term health literacy. Despite this, they described that they understood that their patients had differing abilities in understanding and applying information. This pilot study offers a basis for a full-scale study of district nurses application of health literacy, customized to Swedish health care system.
