Handling demands on success among girls and boys in primarly school – a conceptual model2016Conference paper (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Stress among adolescents in Western societies is becoming an issue of increasing concern and the global trend of adolescents’ health shows a gradual deterioration that is independent of national differences and increases with age. Research shows that many adolescents report high levels of stress, associated with a change in expectations about performance and an increased focus on school results.

Purpose/methods: The aim of this study was to explore the main concern of adolescents to get a deeper knowledge on how they cope with demands in everyday life. Grounded theory was used as a method to generate a model.

Results: The core category “striving to be successful and to succeed” explains participants’ main concern in their everyday lives as a continuous process aiming for success in the present and to succeed throughout their lives. The category is what the participants describe as a race against time and can be divided into the two conceptual categories “struggling with time” and “separating life into different worlds”, pronouncing how they struggle and cope with their main concern in order to obtain wellbeing. Our results show a difference between how girls and boys cope with their demands.

Conclusions: We show that girls and boys used different strategies to cope with stress in their everyday life. The results are based on adolescent’s experiences and are therefore an important contribution for initiating interventions aimed at promoting adolescents mental health from a gender perspective.

Girls and boys strategies to handle and cope with school-related stress2016In: European Journal of Public Health, ISSN 1101-1262, E-ISSN 1464-360X, Vol. 26, no Suppl. 1, p. 221-221Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Background

A trend of increased stress and deteriorating mental health of adolescents is a global challenge (Currier et al, 2012). Research shows that many adolescents report high levels of stress associated with an increased focus on school performance (Moknes et al, 2014). These demands generally have a stronger impact on girl’s health (Låftman & Modig, 2013) due to context and social construction of norms, values and beliefs about femininity and masculinity (Connell, 2002; Butler, 1999). The aim was to get a deeper understanding of girls and boys perceptions of how they handle demands and school-related stress.

    Methods

This study has an explorative design and was analyzed by qualitative content analysis described by Graneheim and Lundman (2004). The participants were 42 adolescents 15 years old, interviewed in five focus groups, dived by gender from five randomly selected schools. Two additional gender mixed focus groups with 14 adolescents 15 years old, were recruited from two of the randomly selected schools.

    Results

The results show that girls and boys handle school-related stress by using similar strategies, but in different ways. Girls express that they have to prioritize to deselect activities they use to do to handle demands from school, and boys prioritize their own activities to obtain strength to cope with demands. Girls often think about their future while boys more often live in present time, and don’t worry so much about the future. Girls receive social support and recovery from friends and family, while boys do various activities with their friends and family to get energy.

    Conclusions

This study shows that girls and boys used different strategies to handle demand and school-related stress. The results are based on adolescent’s experiences and could therefore be an important foundation for interventions that promote adolescents capabilities to cope with increasing demands and to handle school-related stress.

Strategies of Adolescent Girls and Boys for Coping With School-Related Stress2017In: Journal of School Nursing, ISSN 1059-8405, E-ISSN 1546-8364, Vol. 33, no 5, p. 374-382Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Stress among adolescents in Western societies is becoming an issue of increasing concern of adolescent’s health. The aim of this study was to gain greater knowledge about how girls and boys perceive and cope with school-related stress. Participants were 14- to 15-year-old adolescents from a medium-sized municipality in southern Sweden. The data were collected from focus group interviews. The data were subjected to qualitative content analysis. The findings show that adolescents ‘‘prioritizing the future or the present by making choices, finding their own private sphere to relax, and recovering with family and friends.’’ There were gender differences in how these strategies were used. The findings could be used for initiating and planning health promotion interventions in school with focus on supporting girls’ and boys’ equal terms to cope with school-related stress in present and for the future and to give equal condition for future studies and opportunities in life. © The Author(s) 2016

A stakeholder perspective on adolescents' needs for support to cope with school-related stressManuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Background; Adolescents’ experiences of stress have increased in recent decades and is associated with an increase of psychosomatic symptoms and poorer academic achievement. Identification of ways to support adolescents’ handling of school related stress is a major challenge to promote their health and academic achievement. The purpose of this study was to describe the stakeholder’s perspectives on services that are needed for supporting adolescents in secondary school when coping with school-related stress.

Methods; Representatives from the school health service and school management organization (n=23) from five secondary schools and parents (n=4) were recruited by snowball sampling. Interviews were analyzed by qualitative content analysis with an inductive approach.

Results; The study highlight different aspects of stakeholders’ perceptions of what is needed to support adolescents who experience school-related stress. Described are actions such as highlighting and changing organizational and contextual structures and developing the dialogue between the school and the home. Other described actions are to support adolescents’ abilities to plan and visualizing how time is used and to strengthen their adolescents’ belief in their own abilities.

Conclusions; Our findings could be used in schools for developing interventions from a salutogenic approach to promote adolescents’ health in the present and for the future.

Nanocalorimeter platform for in situ specific heat measurements and x-ray diffraction at low temperature2017In: Review of Scientific Instruments, ISSN 0034-6748, E-ISSN 1089-7623, Vol. 88, no 12, article id 125108Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Recent advances in electronics and nanofabrication have enabled membrane-based nanocalorimetry for measurements of the specific heat of microgram-sized samples. We have integrated a nanocalorimeter platform into a 4.5 T split-pair vertical-field magnet to allow for the simultaneous measurement of the specific heat and x-ray scattering in magnetic fields and at temperatures as low as 4 K. This multi-modal approach empowers researchers to directly correlate scattering experiments with insights from thermodynamic properties including structural, electronic, orbital, and magnetic phase transitions. The use of a nanocalorimeter sample platform enables numerous technical advantages: precise measurement and control of the sample temperature, quantification of beam heating effects, fast and precise positioning of the sample in the x-ray beam, and fast acquisition of x-ray scans over a wide temperature range without the need for time-consuming re-centering and re-alignment. Furthermore, on an YBa2Cu3O7−δ crystal and a copper foil, we demonstrate a novel approach to x-ray absorption spectroscopy by monitoring the change in sample temperature as a function of incident photon energy. Finally, we illustrate the new insights that can be gained from in situ structural and thermodynamic measurements by investigating the superheated state occurring at the first-order magneto-elastic phase transition of Fe2P, a material that is of interest for magnetocaloric applications. © 2017 Author(s).

Marknadskommunikation via Internet1999Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Deadline-Aware Scheduling of Cooperative Relayers in TDMA-Based Wireless Industrial Networks2014In: Wireless networks, ISSN 1022-0038, E-ISSN 1572-8196, Vol. 20, no 1, p. 73-88Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper we consider a scenario in which a set of source nodes wishes to transmit real-time data packets periodically to a central controller over lossy wireless links, while using a TDMA-based medium access control protocol. Furthermore, a number of relay nodes are present which can help the source nodes with packet retransmissions. The key question we consider in this paper is how to schedule the TDMA slots for retransmissions while taking advantage of the relay nodes, so that the average number of packets missing their deadlines is minimized. We provide a problem formulation for the general deadline-aware TDMA relay scheduling problem. Since the design space of the general problem is large, we also present one particular class of restricted TDMA relay scheduling problems. We suggest and numerically investigate a range of algorithms and heuristics, both optimal and suboptimal, of the restricted scheduling problem, which represent different trade-offs between achievable performance and computational complexity. Specifically, we introduce two different Markov Decision Process (MDP) based formulations for schedule computation of the restricted TDMA relay scheduling problem. One MDP formulation gives an optimal schedule, another (approximate) formulation gives a sub-optimal schedule which, however, comes very close to the optimal performance at much more modest computational and memory costs. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

On relaying for wireless industrial communications: Is careful placement of relayers strictly necessary?2012In: IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems - Proceedings, WFCS, Piscataway, NJ: IEEE Press, 2012, p. 191-200, article id 6242567Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Relaying is a very promising technique to improve the reliability of data transmission in wireless (industrial) networks. With relaying, relay nodes support source nodes in carrying out retransmissions. A common assumption is that relayers should be placed at “good” positions (e.g. in the middle between source and destination) to achieve benefits. In this paper we tackle the question of whether it is strictly necessary to place relayers at “good” positions (which often requires extensive measurements). We present results indicating that the benefits of relaying are achievable even with randomly placed relayers, as long as enough of them are deployed. Specifically, we present results suggesting that with a sufficient (and still not too high) number of randomly deployed relayers, the probability that all packets, sent by source nodes to a central controller in a TDMA round, reach the controller is larger than for the case with source-only retransmissions. This finding holds true both in the absence and the presence of feedback. © 2012 IEEE.

PRIOREL-COMB: A protocol framework supporting relaying and packet combining forwireless industrial networking2008In: WFCS 2008: 2008 IEEE International Workshop on Factory Communication Systems : proceedings : May 21st-23rd, 2008, Steigenberger Hotel de Saxe, Dresden, Germany / [ed] Gianluca Cena and Françoise Simonot-Lion, Piscataway, NJ: IEEE Press, 2008, p. 45-54Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The PRIOREL-COMB framework presented here integrates support for relaying and packet combining into wireless industrial networks. The selection of suitable relay nodes is made using distributed algorithms which includes different eligibility tests as well as different priority assignments. The framework improves performance in terms of probability to successfully deliver packets before their deadline and it can be implemented on top of commercial transceivers without modification of the physical layer. This class of protocols will therefore be a valuable addition to future wireless industrial communication systems.

Museum Imaginaries: On Evocations of Possible Worlds2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The presentation will discuss a collaboration between The Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm and Robert Willim in 2014. The aim was to raise new ideas on museum imaginaries and representation. The result was the audiovisual performance Possible Worlds by Willim. Material from the museum was combined with sound and images collected on trips to different parts of the world. The result became a play with temporalities, place and performativity.

In the performance recordings from early ethnographic expeditions are enmeshed with material from entirely different contexts. Mundane everyday things collide with devotional objects, with undefined landscapes and actions as well as the non-place sounds from electronic circuits. The material is mixed through live improvisation during a 30 minute performance.

Possible Worlds is an attempt to explore notions of ethnographic surrealism and the interplay between evocation of worlds and situated performance. The notion of surrealism is here used in an expanded sense, and draws on James Clifford’s (1981) statement about ethnographic surrealism as a utopian construct and a statement at once about past and future possibilities for cultural analysis.

Prosocialt beteende  : Fokus på människors faktiska hjälpbeteende respektive attityder till hjälpbeteende.2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the present study was to examine if the individual’s prosocial behavior is negatively affected by the presence of other people and a high cost-level of helping. Previous research indicates that the presence of others and if an intervention is perceived as costly inhibits the individual from intervening. A quasi experiment was performed on forty occasions to study real helping behavior, and a survey on fifty-nine respondents to study attitudes towards helping. Four different help-situations were staged by the supervisors to measure helping behavior in relation to the variables presence of others and cost-level. The subjects in the quasi experiment showed an overall low propensity to help while the respondents in the survey showed an overall positive attitude towards helping. Through a qualitative analysis of the studies, these findings suggest that there is a remarkable discrepancy between real helping behavior and attitudes towards helping.

Salzburgarnas emigration till Ostpreussen 1731/321997Student paper second termStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

A controllably adhesive climbing robot using magnetorheological fluid2012In: 2012 IEEE Conference on Technologies for Practical Robot Applications: TePRA 2012, Piscataway, N.J.: IEEE Press, 2012, p. 91-96Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The novel adhesive effects of magnetorheological fluid for use in climbing robotics were experimentally measured and compared to existing theoretical models. Contrary to these models, the fluid thickness between two parallel plates was found to have little effect on the adhesive failure strength and a positive effect on time to failure. Target surface roughness was found to have a detrimental effect on pull-off adhesion and a positive effect on shearing loads. A robot capable of adhering to ceilings was designed and shown to be capable of holding 7.3 kPa of adhesive stress in both shear on rough vertical surfaces and normal force on glass sheets, demonstrating a novel form of adhesion on a wide range of surface roughnesses and orientations. © 2012 IEEE.

Åldersintegrerad undervisning: En fallstudie av en åldersintegrerad klass1999Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

A wide range of professions is enjoying the privilege of standardized work, where a document states what operations are the best way to go about any given task. In the work of a digital forensic examiner, standards and guidelines are harder to define given the full range of tasks and continuously developing digital aspect. This study has the goal of mapping out existing digital forensic standards and examining whether or not any digital standards and guidelines are being used in the field of law enforcement. This study is also setting out to explain why, or why not these standards and guidelines are being used. This task is being performed using a literary study, using existing digital forensic standards, and also a set of interviews targeting digital forensics working in law enforcement. The study shows how digital forensic standards are not actively being used, and when guidelines are being used, they are used somewhat vaguely and not firmly enforced. The work of a digital forensic proves to use a more “best practice” approach where experience and competence are key. Standards and guidelines are being used so rarely because, with the extremely different cases, the constant development of technology, and the use of “unrestrained evaluation of evidence”; it simply cannot exist without limiting the digital forensic process.

Workplace health promotion leads to better health, increased staff morale, higher productivity and reduced absenteeism. The leadership is very important for the health of the employees and the small business has the biggest need for health promotion because they have less access to occupational health service and often lack of knowledge and resources to manage health and safety problems. A qualitative approach was used and 10 managers in small business were interviewed to describe how managers in small business perceive the company as a health promotion arena for the employees. The informants were selected through a strategic selection and maximal variation was pursued. Collected data were analyzed using content analysis. The result is described in the main categories: sees the workplace as an arena, sees the opportunity to promote employees health and sees a need for external support. The overall theme of the result was; Health promotion leadership in order to perceive the company as a health promotion arena. The conclusions were that managers play a key role in workplace health promotion and that there is a need for external support for the managers. For development of healthy organizations it is necessary with a comprehensive strategy in which employers, employees and society is pursuing the same goal.

Views of the workplace as a health promotion arena among managers of small companies2016In: Health Education Journal, ISSN 0017-8969, E-ISSN 1748-8176, Vol. 75, no 8, p. 950-960Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Introduction: Several studies have shown that workplace health promotion leads to better health, increased productivity, as well as reduced absenteeism and presenteeism among employees. The objective of this study was to describe how managers in small companies (10–19 employees) perceive their company as an arena for promoting employees’ health.

Method: A sample of 10 managers (four women) was strategically selected. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with each person. Interviews were transcribed and analysed using qualitative content analysis. The analysis focused on both manifest and latent content.

Results: Three main categories emerged from the analysis: the potential to promote employees’ health, responsibility as an employer and the need for external support. An arena for workplace health promotion is created when managers prioritise health at the workplace.

Conclusion: Small companies often lack the knowledge and resources to manage health and safety problems and also have less access to occupational health services. This paper highlights the importance of the views of small company managers as resources for the development of health promotion. © 2016 by Health Education Journal

Workplace health promotion; views from managers of small companies2012In: European Journal of Public Health, ISSN 1101-1262, E-ISSN 1464-360X, Vol. 22, no Suppl. 2, p. 129-129Article in journal (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Background: Workplace health promotion leads to better health, high morale, increased productivity and reduced absenteeism among employees. The role of leadership is vital when creating strategies for workplace health promotion. Small companies (less than 50 employees) have increased need for health promotion, as they often lack knowledge and resources to manage health and safety problems. Moreover, small companies have less access to occupational health service. The aim of this study was to describe how managers at small companies perceive their company as an arena for health promotion.

Methods: A sample of ten managers (four females) was strategically selected using maximal variation in terms of branch of industry. Semi-structured interviews were conducted. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The analysis comprised of both manifest and latent content and triangulation between the authors was used.

Results: Three main categories emerged from the analysis; sees the workplace as a possible arena, sees the opportunity to promote employees health and sees a need for external support. More in-depth analysis resulted in six subcategories. The latent content of these categories is described by the theme; Health promotion leadership in order to perceive the company as a health promotion arena. A key factor for workplace health promotion was the manager´s view of health promotion as a beneficial factor for the company. Furthermore, the managers expressed that they could promote employees´ health by organizing health promotion activities and promote a positive psychosocial work environment. The findings showed a need for easily accessible external support to assist managers in their work with health promotion. It is essential that the external support contributes with inspiration and knowledge of health promotion activities, for example by highlighting good practice from other small companies.

Conclusions: Using the manager´s view about the workplace as an arena for promoting health can be a step towards strategies for implementing workplace health promotion. However, for the development of healthy organizations it is necessary to have a comprehensive strategy in which employers, employees and society is pursuing the same goal.

Self-reported bahavioural and medical changes in woman after their first myocardial infarction: a 4-year comparision between participation and non-participation in a cardiac rehabilitation programme2002Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
    Abstract [en]
Women´s recovery following a myocardial infarction (MI) has not yet been studied in a thorough manner. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare women´s self-reported bahavioural and medical changes during a 4-years period, both in those women who voluntarily participate and those women who did not participate in a cardiac rehabilitation programme (CRP). A non-randomised comparative study design, including pre- (baseline) and post-tests (1 and 4 years after), was implemented in 18 hospitals in Sweden. Consecutively chosen women suffering their first MI (N=240) completed a questionnaire regarding behavioural and medical factors. At baseline, significant differences existed between the groups regarding time stress (increased in the CRP group) and hypertension (increased in the non-CRP group). The behavioural factors improved, irrespective of CRP participation or not. With the exception of time stress, which was constantly high in the CRP group during the 4-year period. Regarding the medical factors, the significant difference in hypertension disappeared after 1 year but had a tendency to recur in the non-CRP group within the 4-years period. During the same period, the CRP group reported less rehospitalisation and more interventive cardiology compared to the non-CRP group. Conclusively the woman benefited from CRP participation in relation to medical factors, but no at all in relation to behavioural factors. Accordingly randomised clinical trials are necessary to perform to perform in order to determine the effects of a long-term individual-based supportive CRP, performed by well-educated healthcare professionals.

    Abstract [sv]

Hållbarhetsredovisning – motiv och riktlinjer2007Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Use of financial bootstrapping in new businesses: a question of last resort?2009In: Venture Capital: an International Journal of Entrepreneurial Finance, ISSN 1369-1066, E-ISSN 1464-5343, Vol. 11, no 1, p. 71-83Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study examines motives for using financial bootstrapping in new businesses. First, it identifies and labels groups of new business founders based on their motives for using bootstrapping. Second, it examines the relation between variables referring to the founder and the business and the motives. The data were collected in a questionnaire sent by post to 120 new business founders in Swedish business incubators. The results show that 'lower costs' is the most important motive, followed by 'lack of capital', and, surprisingly, 'fun helping others and getting help from others'. On the basis of a cluster analysis three groups of founders were identified, based on differences in their motives for using bootstrapping. The groups were labeled cost-reducing bootstrappers, capital-constrained bootstrappers and risk-reducing bootstrappers. The relative experience of the founder is the most significant influence for using bootstrapping. As experience is gained the new business founder learns more about the advantages and motives for using bootstrapping. The resource acquisition behavior changes from initially focusing on reducing costs towards a proactive focus on reducing the risk in the business.

    Abstract [en]

It seems fair to argue that a major parr of the research in small business finance has been focused on the supply of capital, departuring from a rather narrow definition of finance referring mainly to "capital" as such. In our opinion research in small business finance has to originate from the small business manager's own logic, and the definition of finance has to be extended to include the different resources needed in the business. In line with this reasoning this study focuses on small business managers' use of measures in order to meet the need for resources without using external capital from institutional sources, called financial bootstrapping measures. The focus on resources needed makes us believe that the resource-based theory can be fruitful in order to help us understand small business finance. The research process was initiated with a number of exploratory interviews. On the basis of this empirical framework, together with a literature study, a questionnaire was constructed and sent to 900 small business managers in Sweden. From the explorative interviews a total of 32 different bootstrapping measures were identified. The bootstrapping measures were separated into two comprehensive groups of measures; (i) measures with the aim of reducing need for capital, and (ii) measures used in order to meet need for capital. The cluster analysis undertaken resulted in the identification of six clusters of bootstrappers, differing fundamentally from each other with respect to the use of bootstrapping measures. Further, independent variables discriminating between the six clusters were isolated in order to get a picture of the typical business in each cluster. On the basis of these pictures the six clusters were labelled: (1) delaying bootstrappers, (2) relationship oriented bootstrappers, (3) subsidy bootstrappers, (4) minimizing bootstrappers, (5) non-bootstrappers and finally, (6) the private owner financed bootstrappers. For future research and policy making we would like to emphasize the importance of broadening the focus when discussing small business finance, to include the small business manager's own logic encompassing the resource acquisition process as such, in order to better understand the way small business managers handle capital requirements.

Financial bootstrapping in small businesses: Examining small business managers' resource acquisition behaviors2001In: Journal of Business Venturing, ISSN 0883-9026, E-ISSN 1873-2003, Vol. 16, no 3, p. 235-254Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In recent years, small businesses have received much attention from policy makers and researchers, in that these businesses are considered important for economic growth and job creation. At the same time small businesses are assumed to face major problems in securing long-term external finance, which is regarded as restraining their development and growth. Small business managers are assumed to use institutional finance as a means of meeting the need for resources, and as a consequence the major part of the research on small business finance has focused on constraints in the supply of institutional (market) finance. As we see it, most small business managers handle the need for resources using means other than external finance by applying different kinds of financial bootstrapping methods. Financial bootstrapping refers to the use of methods for meeting the need for resources without relying on long-term external finance from debt holders and/or new owners. However, these other means of resource acquisition have, with few exceptions, not been focused on within earlier research on small business finance. Against this background, the purpose of this study is to describe small business managers' use of different financial bootstrapping methods, and, more importantly, to develop concepts that can help Its better understand small business managers' financial bootstrapping behaviors. The research process was initiated with a number of unstructured interviews conducted with small business managers, accountants, consultants, bank officials, and researchers, in order to identify different financial bootstrapping possibilities. On the basis of the interviews and an earlier study on financial bootstrapping, resulting in the identification of 32 bootstrapping methods, a questionnaire was constructed and sent to 900 small business managers in Sweden. Given the limited knowledge within the area of financial bootstrapping, the study is based on explorative factor analysis and cluster analysis. From the cluster analysis six clusters of bootstrappers were identified differing from each other with respect to the bootstrapping methods used and the characteristics of the business. On the basis of this information the different clusters were labeled: (I) delaying bootstrappers; (2) relationship-oriented bootstrappers; (3) subsidy-oriented bootstrappers; (4) minimizing bootstrappers; (5) non-bootstrappers; and (6) private owner-financed bootstrappers. The groups of financial bootstrappers show differences in their orientation toward resource acquisition, representing different aspects of art internal mode of resource acquisition a social mode of resource acquisition, and a quasi-market mode of resource acquisition. We find that the delaying bootstrappers, private owner-financed bootstrappers, and minimizing bootstrappers all represent an internal mode of resource acquisition. The relationship-oriented bootstrappers follow a socially oriented mode of resource acquisition, whereas the subsidy-oriented bootstrappers apply quasi-market oriented resource acquisition. This study contributes to our empirical understanding by providing knowledge about the financial bootstrapping methods used in small businesses Furthermore, by developing concepts this study contributes to the conceptual development of our knowledge about financial bootstrapping. The implication of this study is that financial bootstrapping is a phenomenon which deserves more attention in future research on small business finance. At the same time, financial bootstrapping behavior is probably a more general phenomenon appearing in different contexts, such as R&D activities in large businesses, financing startups, etc. Finally, the study points out implications for small business managers, consultants, teachers, etc. Practitioners often tend to focus on market solutions to resource needs. This study shows, however, that this strong focus cart be questioned. Resources needed in small businesses can in many situations be secured using financial bootstrapping methods, referring to internally oriented and socially oriented resource acquisition strategies.

“I Bernadottes land”: Hur ser August Strindbergsbilden ut bland gymnasielärare i svenska 2005?2005Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Habiliteringspersonalens mångfacetterade yrkesroll - En studie hur personal arbetar med LSS intentioner inom integrerat boende2008Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

This essay is about the staff in integrated homes very complex profession and this is illustrated through twelve interviews in five integrated homes for disabled people. The profession changed when the institution closed and especially when the Law of Support and Service (LSS) was introduced in 1994.

The purpose of this survey is to study how staff works with LSS intentions in integrated homes for disabled people and to increase the awareness about the structure of power and how this affects the daily life for those who live there.

The main objective in this survey is to find out which the differences that lie between LSS intentions and the work that take place in integrated homes for disabled people. This survey tries to illustrate when and why these differences occur.

This survey has a multidisciplinary perspective, where three models of disability and theories from Foucault, Sibley and Wendell have been included. The result shows that the staffs work is difficult, full of responsibility and has many facets. The staff needs education regarding disability, communication and LSS to reach the intentions of LSS.
