    Abstract [en]
    The purpose of this degree thesis is to make a radiator adjustment program for the heating, ventilation and sanitary industry. The main goal of the program is to shorten the time it takes to make an adjustment and to simplify the process of a radiator adjustment. The degree thesis has resulted in an innovative product which main purpose is to help when performing a radiator adjustment. The main goal of the program was to make it as easy to understand as possible and to make it as cheap as possible to acquire for the installer. The software is to be viewed as a simple tool for a radiator adjustment when installing for example heat pumps which makes it a lot easier for the installation contractor and reduces the cost for the customer who buys a heat pump and the company who is installing the heat pump.

    Abstract [en]

    The variety of devices for web use increases, but some web sites are still being developed with PC:s as their only priority. Responsive web design is a way of developing web sites for all devices on the market, and therefore creating new opportunities for web development. The area is still new and relatively unexplored, and there are challenges that can be difficult to address. The thesis maps out challenges found in scientific literature, and confirmes or denies and supplements identified challenges through an empirical study. The thesis concludes with an introduction to a framework with challenges in responsive webdesign.

    IT-användandet bland Sveriges företag är mycket stort och utvecklingen går snabbt framåt. Samtidigt som teknologin skapar möjligheter så skapar den även hot mot företagen själva. Dessa hotbilder glöms ofta bort och konsekvenserna kan bli att känslig information hamnar i fel händer.

    Undersökningen handlar om anställdas kunskap om den egna verskamhetens IT-säkerhetspolicy. I undersökningen granskas och jämförs även IT-säkerhetspolicys från ett mindre företag och en större kommunal organisation. Som metod har enkäter och intervjuer använts. Resultatet visar att kunskapen hos de anställda kring den egna IT-säkerhetspolicyn är varierande och att de båda policyerna ser mycket olika ut. En IT-säkerhetspolicy bör inte anses som en problemlösare i sig, utan användandet kan även ge nackdelar. Den kan ge stöd och tydlighet i arbetet och kan underlätta i beslutsfattande situationer och öka säkerheten i företaget. Det räcker dock inte med att ha en detaljrik och heltäckande IT-säkerhetspolicy, om de anställda inte känner till att den finns eller inte vet vad den innehåller. En IT-säkerhetspolicy bör vara ett levande dokument som tas upp för gemensam diskussion och revideras med jämna mellanrum.

    A fault tolerance test enabling QoS in a Bluetooth piconet2004Conference paper (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [en]

    An important trend, in personal area networks, is that time critical application becomes more common, e.g., voice over IP, video phone calls, network games. This segment of applications demands for quality of service (QoS) guarantees, to provide the correct functionality. The Bluetooth standard provides an optional interface to support QoS guarantees, but the standard does not suggest any actual implementation. A wireless communication channel is stochastic by nature, providing QoS guarantees with this precondition make traditional deterministic real-time theory obsolete.  In this paper a probabilistic fault tolerance test enabling quality of service guarantees in a Bluetooth piconet is given. The basic Bluetooth network architecture is based on a master-slave configuration, i.e., a point to point connection. More advanced network architectures are possible where up to eight Bluetooth equipped units can be active members of one network (piconet). Furthermore, several piconets can interconnect and form a so called scatternet.

    Abstract [en]

    It is expected that wireless sensor network will be used in home automation and industrial manufacturing in the future. The main driving forces for wireless sensor networks are fault tolerance, energy gain and spatial capacity gain. Unfortunately, an often forgotten issue is the capacity limits that the network topology of a wireless sensor network represents. In this paper we identify gains, losses and limitations in a wireless sensor network, using a simplified theoretical network model. Especially, we want to point out the stringent capacity limitations that this simplified network model provide. Where a comparison between the locality of the performed information exchange and the average capacity available for each node is the main contribution.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper we investigate the impact of node mobility in a wireless ad hoc network (WAHN). Especially we investigate the possibility to provide guaranteed services in a WAHN, i.e., the network topology predictability. We combine link expiration time (LET) estimation with information propagation speed (IPS) in a time-space diagram and as result an operation area is revealed. The result gives that a WAHN, where the nodes are mobile, has a knowledge horizon (KH), the distance of which is dependent on the mobility of the nodes. Beyond the KH, knowledge about the network state is impossible to achieve. Thus, we can not predict long distance network topology state when the node mobility is high.

    Examensarbetets mål var att bygga och programmera ett system för att sampling av mätsignaler.En mätning skulle motsvara 1000 sampel av en sinusformad insignal på 1kHz med en samplingshastighet av 100 kHz.Ett annat krav var att insignalerna från AD-omvandlarna skulle registreras parallellt i tiden.Ett USB inteface skulle användas för kommunikation mellan DSP och en dator.Detta skulle ge möjlighet att föra över mätresultat till datorn och att uppgradera mjukvara i DSP:n. Mätresultatet skulle visas grafiskt på en datorskärm.Hårdvaran valdes av FOSS och bestod i en digital signalprocessor och två AD-omvandlare. I uppsatsen visas vad en DSP är och speciellt presenteras ADSP-2192 med dess unika egenskaper.Det har lagts stor vikt vid USB,då denna buss-förbindelse var ett primärt mål för att kunna genomföra examensarbetet.Projektets föruts ättningar för att praktiskt genomföra uppgifterna analyseras och alternativa lösningar diskuteras.Uppsatsen ska kunna tj äna som inkörsport för liknande eller USB relaterade projekt.

    In many organizations, reduced training costs are one of the important reasons for using e-learning. One of the methods used for this is to share learning materials and information between different e-learning systems. This way, the same material does not have to be recreated over and over again and analysis of collected information becomes much easier. Sharable Object Reference Model (SCORM) has long been a standard for reusing learning materials, but has gradually become obsolete. E-learning has evolved with modern technology and interaction. Tablets and smartphones are becoming more common and learning interactions today can, for example, consist of films, virtual worlds and social networks. To enable and simplify collection of information from new technologies and interactions, a new standard was developed called Tin Can API. This new standard lifts many restrictions from SCORM.

    In this project the Tin Can API is investigated to find out how it works and how the standard can be used to supplement SCORM. An implementation has been made to an existing e-learning system called esTracer to enable the collection and transmission of learning information to external systems.

    The project shows a way to implement the Tin Can API into an existing e-learning system, and how the problem of settings can be solved. A number of user interfaces were created to allow esTracer customers to decide where and when information should be sent and what to send. Ability to collect this information and send it via a scheduled application was also implemented.

    Abstract [en]

    Today's companies are growing in a steady pace, with more and more network devices added to the network it is very important to keep track of and monitor the status of devices. Even though the wireless evolution has come, it all depends on the wired connections to supply a continuous connection to the rest of the world.

     

    This thesis explores, tests and informs about creating a functional system that automatically creates backups of configuration files from network devices and how to troubleshoot networking problems and maintain a network to keep it in good shape.

     

    Even though many companies have manual backups of router and switch configurations, the possibility to have this part automated should be desired by most companies. It can open up for the administrators in the company to have more time over to help the employees that are experiencing problems at the same time as the automated system eliminates the possible errors that a human can cause.

    Of course one can see it the other way, that it takes away manual labor for the employees, but it is just a small part of the job yet it is so very important that making this service automated is a good choice for a company.

    Integrity is proven by the means of backups and by the option to see the difference between the previous backups and the most recent.

     

    The three of us have worked as a group to do all tests and to write the documentation. After working with a couple of companies it is clear that well functional backup systems of network devices are not as common as it should be. Companies that do take backups of the network devices often do this manually.

    When seeing this it makes sense to use a reliable system that uses revision handling so it is easy to see the recent changes made to the devices.

     

    The results ended up in a working automated backup system for routers and switches. The automated system is running Debian and connects to all the routers and switches in the network to collect the configuration files with the help of rancid.

    The thesis also explains the functions of concepts such as disaster recovery and different maintenance models.

    The technical development is advancing at high speed and now the turn has come

    for the traditional paper to digitalize into the so called e-paper. The newspaper

    industry has started to investigate the future possibilities of publishing the

    traditional newspapers on e-paper. Today’s newspapers are mostly financed by

    advertisement incomes, which makes the advertisers important players, who must

    be taken into consideration at an introduction of the e-paper. Since the e-paper

    does not exist as a finished product in the market today, in this essay we look into

    what kind of functions or services that can attract advertisers to the e-paper on the

    basis of the experiences made with the breakthrough of the web-newspapers. The

    study was carried out by interviewing advertising managers at five well known

    Swedish newspapers that have both a paper and a web edition. Our conclusions

    were that the e-paper is seen as a complement to the medias of today and must be

    able to offer something in addition to what is already offered by the medias today.

    Some characteristics/functions for example colour, sound and moving pictures

    have appeared as prerequisites or at least very important. If the readers are there,

    the advertisers will automatically be attracted to the e-paper to be where the

    readers are. Reduced print and distribution costs have been mentioned in articles

    as an important driving force for replacing the traditional newspaper with the e-

    paper. This driving force has not at all been cleared in this study. It will probably

    take at least 10 years before we have a functioning, profitable channel in the e-

    paper.

    Uppsatsen handlar om den interaktiva tavlan som ett IT-stöd i skolans klassrum. Syftet med uppsatsen var att undersöka lärares inställning till befintligt IT-stöd. Problemet som behandlas i uppsatsen var: Varför används inte IT-stöd som den interaktiva tavlan i större utsträckning vid undervisningen? För att besvara problemformuleringen utfördes en teoristudie som i huvudsak byggde på vetenskapliga artiklar. Teorin sträcker sig över områdena; beskrivning av IT i klassrummet, IT-satsningar och lärares inställning till IT. För att nå djupare förståelse för problemet genomfördes en undersökning som bestod av både en observation och av intervjuer. Intervjuerna genomfördes med lärare och lärarstudenter, där användargraden av IT-stöd varierar. Analysen visade att det inte fanns ett enkelt svar på problemet. Det var många faktorer som inverkade. I diskussionen framhävs bland annat bristen på vetenskaplig forskning om nyttan av IT-stöd. Den interaktiva tavlan har inte tilldelats ett värde och därmed är det svårare för skolan att överväga investeringar. Uppsatsen avslutas med fyra slutsatser som besvarar frågeställningen. Brist i stöd till lärare och otillräcklig insikt i ITs potential är två slutsatser som har betydelse för den låga användargraden av IT-stöd.

    Abstract [sv]
    The purpose of this project has been to develop a system that is able to detect if a document is a plagiarism. The quality of several algorithms and concepts has been compared where efficiency, modularity and flexibility have been important key aspects. The interface of choice has been a web-based application to make the system accessible. The system consists of an analyse algorithm, document database and a user interface. The algorithm analyzes and searches for similarities in the text documents. To find plagiarism comparing documents are required, therefore we have a document database and filters to be able to interpret different kinds of document formats. The programming languages used in the project are foremost Perl, for its short development time, but also C for its speed and precision. As webserver we have used Apache with SSL (encryption) enabled and for the interface we have used HTML, CSS and DOM. The target operating systems are both Linux and Windows where Linux has been the foremost platform for testing as it offered best performance.

    Det har visat sig att mycket pengar investeras i re-designprojekt på webben. Eftersom budgetarna och tidsramarna för re-designprojekten minskar är det viktigt att denna process utförs på ett korrekt sätt så att de investerade pengarna ger de resultat som förväntas. I denna uppsats undersöks hur en re-designprocess av en webbsida kan förbättras med hjälp av ett användarcentrerat perspektiv i form av User-Centered Design (UCD). Undersökningen är baserad på en fallstudie där ett fallföretag implementerat en UCD-modell i re-designprocessen av deras webbpubliceringsverktyg. Undersökningen har visat att UCD mycket väl kan förbättra re-designprocessen förutsatt att UCD-modellen modifieras från att vara anpassad för design till re-design. Studien ger avslutningsvis ett antal riktlinjer för hur UCD bör implementeras för att förbättra re-designprocessen av webbsidor.

    Abstract [sv]
    The task of this project is to implement a soft CPU-core defined in VHDL on a FPGA-circuit board. This is done in cooperation with CC-lab at the University of Halmstad to be used in the laboration course given in cojunction with the course Hardware construction using VHDL. One of the critical demands is to develop a CPU-core that is easy to understand and get an overview of. Therefore the processor is modularized where each module is easy to modify and this grants the capability to add new modules with new features. The CPU is implemented with a Harvard architecture and consists of those base components that are vital for the function of a processor capable of meeting the demands put upon it. The CPU is capable of executing instructions written in assembler. A set of instructions are defined and new instructions can be added. After concluding the test-phase and comparing the performance of the processor with a professionally constructed CPU, namely the MicroBlaze from Xilinx, one could draw the conclusion that our CPU is bulkier and performs less instructions per second but is on the other hand easier to comprehend with only a basic understanding of VHDL.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper compares several strategies for air-fuel ratio tran-sient control. The strategies are: A factory-standard look-up table based system (a SAAB Trionic 5), a feedback PI controller with and without feed-forward throttle correction, a linear feed-forward control algorithm, and two nonlinear feed- forward algorithms based on artificial neural networks. The control strategies have been implemented and evaluated in a SAAB 9000 car during a transient driving test, consisting of an acceleration in the second gear from an engine speed of 1500 rpm to 3000 rpm. The best strategies are found to be the neural network based ones, followed by the table based factory system. The two feedback PI controllers offer the poorest performance.

    Abstract [sv]
    Mathboard is an online-tool for distance education in mathematics. The goal was to develop a system that would feel like a traditional classroom. The students would get a positive and cooperative environment to work in. The system was built so that teachers can teach their students no matter where they are located. Mathboard consists mainly of three parts: a drawing board where users are allowed to draw to each other in real-time: a chat is used for synchronous communication, it serves like a complement to the drawing board. The chat also contains a calculator where students can do calculations and send the results to other users. The layout is designed for the World Wide Web, this is where students and teachers can register and log in to gain access to the system. The interface was developed into a user-friendly environment where everything is easily accessible.

    Abstract [en]

    The long short-term memory (LSTM) is not the only neural network which learns a context sensitive language. Second-order sequential cascaded networks (SCNs) are able to induce means from a finite fragment of a context-sensitive language for processing strings outside the training set. The dynamical behavior of the SCN is qualitatively distinct from that observed in LSTM networks. Differences in performance and dynamics are discussed.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis we present a new space-time model of interacting agents in the financial market. It is a combination of the Curie-Weiss model and a model introduced by Järpe. We investigate properties such as the critical temperature and magnetization of the system. The distribution of the Hamiltonian function is obtained and a hypothesis test of independence is derived. The results are illustrated in an example based on real data.

    On-line diagnostics of rotating electric machines is of importance for maintenance planning during plant stops. Critical machine faults may otherwise cause un-planned plant stops, which are costly. This thesis analyzes the complexity of this problem by study the faults of rotating electric induction machines in a paper production plant. Diagrams in this report show statistic information regarding the flow of these machines and their reported faults (critical or still operable). By investigating these diagrams a conclusion that will affect the draft will be taking into account. Also the result of a marketing analysis on products that can do predictive maintenance on electric rotating induction machines is presented. Finally, a concept is recommended for Stora Enso Hylte AB, taking into account perfor-mance the draft and installation costs.

    Abstract [en]

    At present, one of the big challenges is to develop a precise surface measurement method for mechanical parts. Especially, to study cylindrical surface, the cause of many difficulties because of its geometry shape. This thesis presents a quite good solution for analyzing topography of cylindrical surface with White Light Interferometry optical system which is one of the important and suitable tools in optics.

    In the construction period, the aim was to build a system which can be easily mounted on the sample. This is done by a very simple and compact design that also enables us to use it in research laboratories.

    In the project, a cylindrical surface analysis is achieved by taking subsequent images with different nano-scale distance from the sample and stitched the acquired images. To achieve this implementation, subsequent images with the highest intensity are first determined and then located in a single image. In the stitching process, cross correlation method that is extremely useful to find out relative point of the images is used to merge the acquired images. Additionally, stitching process is helped us to extend the area where research can be done.

    In the project, MATLAB & LABVIEW are used for analyzing the images and controlling the motors, respectively.

    Abstract [en]

    This project is a step towards automatic firefighting. The goal is to decrease the number of personal injuries by replacing the human firefighter with robots or similar technical tools. Especially in very hostile environments due to risk of explosions or building collapse. A robot is easy to replace and can be maneuvered from a safe distance. The idea of the project comes from the company Drones Networking which aims for developing a totally autonomous firefighting system. The result of this project is a prototype of a robot which handles the hose during firefighting.

The foundation was built by using a variant of the operating system Linux, uClinux. This version of the operating system runs on an MMU-less CPU. A product has been developed during the project, an internet router. This product is totally based on the, above described, foundation.

    Abstract [en]

    The objective with this project has been to purify water in the Aqua Interiör in Laholm proprietary water furniture using uv-light. These furnitures are rent out to customers to get moderately cold water, with or without sparkling. The water furnitures is directly connected to the water system. A problem with the water furniture is that it is not suitable for hospitals because there is an increased bacterial content in the water, however, below the prescribed limits. In hospitals there is a higher requirement for water quality. The objective with the uv-radiation is to solve this problem. A reactor has been developed in which the water is uv-radiated in a spiral made of quartz glass. A control system controls the radiation of the water and that no problem occurs during the radiation.A display with touch-function has been used to get an attractive way to present important information about lamp status and temperature inside the reactor. This is how the service personnel receive information on the lamp if it needs replacing or not. A log of the system was created to ensure that no unauthorized person would be able to delete the log data that is created. The touch-display made it a solid feeling of quality and new technology.The use of the uv filter has resulted in a positive result, with purified water. An ambition is that further development of this project will lead to a finished product that will be sold / out rented by Aqua Interiör i Laholm .

    Our project was commissioned by SiTech, a company on the West Coast of Sweden, which produces valves for drysuits. The managing director of SiTech is an experienced diver. He got an idea about how to simplify diving. This is a reduced description of the project because SiTech wants to keep this idea secret. One of the goals with this project was to develop a prototype that handles sound. The prototype shall consist of modern electronic devices. The hardware is developed according to desired requirements and is connected in a system. The software is implemented and for the moment the prototype is able to handle recording and to playback one message.

    Abstract [en]

    This bachelor thesis is dedicated to assemble the hardware system of a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) in order to prepare the platform for an autonomous flight in the air for a given path through the pre-programmed check points. A UAV is an aircraft that contains sensors, GPS, radio system, servomechanisms and computers, which provide the capability of an autonomous flight without a human pilot in the cockpit. A stable flight requires sensing the roll, pitch, and yaw angles of aircraft. Roll and pitch angles were ensured by a sensor system of FMA Direct Company called co-pilot flight stabilization system (CPD4), which allows controlling ailerons and elevator manually.

    An autopilot is required for steering the aircraft autonomously according the GPS data and the establish waypoints that the airplane have to pass by. The GPS gives heading information to the autopilot, and this uses the information of the next waypoint to decide which direction to go. Hereby an autonomous flight is provided. In this project a lego mindstorm NXT was used as an autopilot that is product of LEGO Company [1]. The output of the autopilot is used to control the airplane servos to fly in the desired direction. A software and hardware interface was designed to allow the autopilot to receive the data from the co-pilot sensor and to transmit data to the co-pilot processor, which will finally steer the actuator servos. Experiments were performed with different parts of the system and the results reported.

    Abstract [en]

    This study describes the differences in cost factors for the total cost of ownership of traditional and cloud-based enterprise resource planning systems (ERP). The concept of traditional ERP is aimed at ERP systems that are implemented in-house in and on the company’s IT infrastructure. Articles and magazines related to IT portrays cost factors related to the ownership of ERP and that the cloud is the next stage of development to provide ERP systems. The purpose of this study is to examine the cost factors related to the ownership of traditional and cloud-based ERP systems to be used as an aid in choosing between these ERP systems. We have chosen to limit the study to exclude numbers and focus only on cost factors. We have carried out a qualitative study and conducted five interviews with respondents who are well versed in the subject area. Three of these respondents are from companies that use traditional ERP and the remaining two from companies using cloud-based ERP. As a basis for our interview manuscript we have used our theoretical framework. This is based on scientific articles, literature and books in the field. The conclusion shows that the cost factors related to the ownership of the ERP systems is easier to calculate with cloud-based ERP.

    Agnieszka Burkiewicz, Diana Jonsson and Pär Eriksson have performed the degree thesis commissioned by Heléns Rör AB. Heléns Rör AB recently introduced an Intranet. This Intranet contains information concerning the company that all of the employees can take part of. The purpose of the degree thesis was to split the information depending on department. This was realized with a department portal. Information connected to a certain department is gathered together and visualized to the user in a simple and good arranged way. The portal is a meeting point of information and it works as a springboard when the user wants to navigate further in the information system. The department portal is created in ASP (Active Server Pages), HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language), Java script, Visual Basic script and a database.

    Abstract [en]

    To understand and model the dynamics of the implied volatility smile is essential for trading, pricing and risk management portfolio. We suggest a  linear Kalman filter for updating of the Stochastic Volatility Inspired (SVI) model of the volatility. From a risk management perspective we generate the 1-day ahead forecast of profit and loss (P\&L) of option portfolios. We compare the estimation of the implied volatility using the SVI model with the cubic polynomial model. We find that the SVI Kalman filter has outperformed the  others.

    This project has been initiated by Ericsson Microwave Systems AB in Mölndal, Sweden. The fast development of FPGA’s, both regarding to the logic capacity and speed has made them an interesting alternative to implement parts of digital signal processing to be used in the new airborne radar equipment. The mission was to examine whether an FPGA-based solution meets the demands which are required on the multiple channel digital signal processing in adaptive phased array antenna systems. The part of the signal processing chain that was studied is the pulse code compression represented as binary phase modulation coded with a Barker13 code. The pulse code compression was implemented as parallel FIR-filters on the FPGA circuits. The project shows that FPGA’s are suitable to implement multiple channel pulse code compression in a cost efficient manner.

    The purpose of the project is to develop a versioning file system to be used in conjunction with an ARM7-processor. Before the development started an extensive literature study was conducted. The studies were focused towards mainly accepted methods of implementing these kinds of file systems. The demands were sorted depending on priority regarding basic functionality and support for versioning was given a high priority. The final solution was implemented using the development tool IAR Systems – Embedded workbench for ARM and the language used was C. The implementation has been done by using basic techniques from well known systems as well as our own solutions. Everything was implemented from scratch and was fitted to the available environment. The result is a working file system with support for versioning. The versioning is implemented in such a way that the available memory resources are utilized well. The entire file system is based on functions that make out a user friendly programming interface. A command interpreter is implemented, whose task is to act as an interface between the user and the hardware. The interface is run in a hyperterminal environment that utilizes serial communication over a UART.
