Gender Politics in Asia: Women Manoeuvring within Dominant Gender Orders2007Collection (editor) (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This volume brings together an impressive array of internationally recognized scholars from around the world to examine the many facets of gender politics in Asia. Its central concern is how women in various gendered contexts in Asia position themselves in the (re)production of gender relations, and how they manoeuver in order to preserve or alter these. It covers fields as varied as the use of dress as a political weapon, the practice of healing as an indirect challenge to the dominant gender and political orders, and religious ordination as a struggle for equity in Buddhism.

Gränslöst arbete - det nya sättet att arbeta?: - En inblick i några rektorers upplevelse av det gränslösa arbetet2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Worklife has undergone major changes in recent decades, partly as a result of digitalization development. Information- and communication technology (ICT) enables a more boundaryless work, since neither time nor space no longer separates work from private life. Earlier research highlighted that the new way of working causes difficulties in balancing work and private life.

The aim of the present study was to contribute to an increased understanding of how the principals handle the boundaryless work and to what extent ICT and social support are related to their ability to handle the boundaryless work. The result has been analyzed from Karasek and Theorells (1990) demand, control and support model, Clarks (2000) border theory and relevant concepts and previous research.

Nine respondents participated in this qualitative study and the result showed that the boundaryless work is mostly positive. At the same time it imposes higher demands on the individual to take responsibility for managing the balance between work and private life. ICT has both shown to facilitate and obstruct the handling of boundaryless work. Finally the result shows that social support does not have a direct connection with how the principals handle the boundaryless work. However, social support can act as a buffer to increase the ability to handle the effects of boundaryless work.

Democratic revolutions as institutional innovation diffusion: Rapid adoption and survival of democracy2013In: Technological forecasting & social change, ISSN 0040-1625, E-ISSN 1873-5509, Vol. 80, no 8, p. 1546-1556Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Recent 'democratic revolutions' in Islamic countries call for a re-consideration of transitions to and from democracy. Transitions to democracy have often been considered the outcome of socio-economic modernization and therefore slow and incremental processes. But as a recent study has made clear, in the last century, transitions to democracy have mainly occurred through rapid leaps rather than slow and incremental steps. Here, we therefore apply an innovation and systems perspective and consider transitions to democracy as processes of institutional, and therefore systemic, innovation adoption. We show that transitions to democracy starting before 1900 lasted for an average of 50. years and a median of 56. years, while transitions originating later took an average of 4.6. years and a median of 1.7. years. However, our results indicate that the survival time of democratic regimes is longer in cases where the transition periods have also been longer, suggesting that patience paid in previous democratizations. We identify a critical 'consolidation-preparing' transition period of 12. years. Our results also show that in cases where the transitions have not been made directly from autocracy to democracy, there are no main institutional paths towards democracy. Instead, democracy seems reachable from a variety of directions. This is in line with the analogy of diffusion of innovations at the nation systems level, for which assumptions are that potential adopter systems may vary in susceptibility over time. The adoption of the institutions of democracy therefore corresponds to the adoption of a new political communications standard for a nation, in this case the innovation of involving in principle all adult citizens on an equal basis. © 2013 Elsevier Inc.

Samspelet mellan mål och emotioner vid skapande av motivation2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

Background: The factors goals, emotions and motivation are nowadays well researched. Studies that shows the interaction between these three factors does exist, but in a small amount. In all different jobs people encounter these factors, no matter what you’re working with, some experience them daily and others only sometimes.

Purpose: We want to study the significance of the interaction between goals and emotions among employees in the construction business, when leaders are about to motivate their employees.

Implementation: To succeed with our study and achieve the purpose, we chose to do a qualitative research. We have conducted four visiting interviews and one telephone interview, with both leaders and employees in the construction business.

Results: We have through our study found out that the interaction between goals, emotions and motivation are important in the work of construction, even if it’s not something everyone thinks about. The fact that not everyone has it in mind is because emotions is something people generally not talk much about at work, but instead keep it for themselves.

We have found that the interaction between these three factors may work differently, both obvious and less obvious. It has been revealed in our study that people shows feelings in different ways, some shows them clear and some obscurely. We’ve also seen that the situation is of relevance because we react differently in different situations.

In the research we’ve determined that motivation is something a person is passionate about, which makes goals something that has to attract the person who is assigned to the task. Employees mainly believes that goals shall be short ranged and have a clear purpose, and then results can be achieved as quickly as possible.

A conclusion is that all people are motivated by different methods and in different ways, depending on many aspects, including experiences, growth and knowledge. The study has shown that the interaction between emotions, goals and motivation plays an important role in the construction business when a leader is about to motivate their employees, and therefore it is highly recommended for managers to consider this interaction to create an effective leadership.

Health care professionals' attitudes and acceptance towards and experiences of digital health (eHealth) services2019Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The Nordic countries share common interests to digitize services in the health care sector from which their eHealth strategies are a proof of. Sweden has specifically put effort on the global scheme by setting a goal of being the best in eHealth by 2025. As one of the main goals of the strategies is increasing patient empowerment, perspective of the health care professionals in this digital shift has yet remained less noticed and the concrete effects on them is still scarcely studied. This study focuses on providing the aspect of the health care professionals and how they have perceived and experienced the digital tools and eHealth services affecting their work and what attitudes they themselves have as users.

This study utilized the mixed method approach and was done in collaboration with the Digga Halland project which aims towards enhancing health care workers’ digital competences and conditions to utilize eHealth. Previously collected baseline survey data from health care professionals in different municipalities in the Halland region was analysed and five health care professionals were recruited for in-depth, phenomenological interviews.

The results of this research indicate that the use of digital tools and services is common among health care professionals at work and outside work and the workers consider their digital competence rather good. However, the interview respondents presented varying attitudes towards digital services and eHealth depending on whether the services were evaluated from a professional role or outside work role when the professionals used the services themselves. Also, the current professional position guided whether the digital shift and eHealth were experienced more positively or negatively.

Delat ledarskap ur ett medarbetarperspektiv - med fokus på kommunikation och socialt stöd2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of a shared leadership for the employees

perception of job satisfaction and how employees perceive the social support and

communication from managers as part of a shared leadership.

Shared leadership means that two or more managers share the role which the traditional

manager usually holds. Research indicated that shared leadership can generate both positive

and negative effects for employees on the experience of good communication and social

support. To create job satisfaction, research has shown that communication and social support

    are two basic and important factors (Heide, Johansson & Simonsson, 2012;

    Charoensukmongkol, Moqbel & Gutierrez-Wirsching, 2016).

The study was conducted in public organization which uses the concept of shared leadership.

A qualitative methodology based on semi-structured group interviews have been applied with

    eight employees.

The result of the study indicated that the employees experienced both good and open

communication, between them and their managers. It also showed that the employees felt that

their managers was available to them. The result indicated that communication in turn

affected employees perception of a strong social support. Which led to strengthen the

relations between managers and employees, and generated the feeling of job satisfaction.

The conclusion of the study indicated that shared leadership contributed to positive effects on

    employees' sense of job satisfaction.

Nattchauffören: En kvalitativ undersökning av kommunikation och information på ett logistikföretag.2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Hur ledare inom vård- och omsorg bedriver hälsoarbete utifrån Organisatorisk och social arbetsmiljö2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Tillgängliga chefer: om tillgänglighet för medarbetarna i offentlig sektor2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of our study was to examine how organizational factors such as job demands and support can influence primary school middle managers opportunities to be available to subordinates under subordinates' expectations. To answer our purpose, we used a qualitative approach with semi structured interviews. The results was analyzed using theories of job demands, span of control, middle managers need for support and a theory about middle managers acting as a shock absorber between subordinates wishes and the managements demands. What kind of support the manager have affects how much time the manager can spend on being available for the subordinates. If the support isn´t adapted for the managers situation, the result will be more unnecessary duties for the manager and less time for the subordinates. The results show that subordinates expect the middle manager to be reachable and to take time to priority the subordinate when the subordinate needs it. Even if the manager can prioritize subordinates needs today, changes inside and outside the organization leads to higher demands on the managers.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to evaluate if age affects recruits first selection as well as to get an understanding of possible factors that may lead to age discrimination. This is performed by an experimental method in which recruiters may freely discuss and make selection among fictional application documents. The study was conducted with a qualitative experimental research approach in which eight recruiters were interviewed at four different organizations. The study focuses on the underlying factors that contribute to how the age discrimination may arise in a selection. The underlying factors that emerged from the study was that it could be because the discourses in the form of assumptions and own values, the internal integration in the form of business culture and the external adjustment included by the client.

"Den som får, den ger": En kvalitativ fallstudie om faktorer som påverkar organisationers retention.2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate employees’ experience of a change project at the Halland County Council ambulance service. To answer the question, a qualitative method was used. The following questions were asked: How did the employees within the ambulance service experience the work time change? How did the employees participate in the work time change? Individual interviews were conducted with seven employees. The results showed most employees were positive to change, but that there was some resistance to the reduced working time. The positive attitude explanation may lie in the direction taken to views that existed on the change process into account. The resistance was due to both a higher cost to the employer and lower pay for employees contributing causes combined with a perceived uncertainty about the reduced possibility of long holidays. The widespread motivation and commitment had several reasons. Foremost it is a change that improves the employees' working time and provide more opportunities for social activities and recovery. Other causes may have been the possibility that they were given to participate, have a voice in the work and the opportunity to influence in the decision making. Communication that existed between employees and management team promoted the possibility of questions and feedback continuously throughout the change process.

    Abstract [en]

This article concerns the use of sport as an asset of knowledge in academia. The background to this is sport’s neglected role and isolation in academia, save for in sundry sports sciences. By mapping the academic use of philosopher Michel Serres’ sport metaphors, a new perspective of the relationship between sport and science is explored. A mixed-methods approach was chosen to review the literature using Serres’ concept of the ‘quasi-object’. The findings show that the concept appeals to a wide array of disciplines within the social sciences and the humanities. The article suggests that there exists a parallel sport science in academia that flies under the radar of regular sport disciplines, a sort of ‘sport AS humanities’. This proposed ‘sportive science’ focuses on other aspects of sport than its already existing sport study counterparts. Thus, sport qua science acknowledges its topic as an asset of knowledge, not as a mirror of society. © 2018 The Author(s). Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate and obtain knowledge about how expert freelancers perceive their work and what effects the work form entails for the individual, from a sustainability perspective. The research questions were: "what effects, in terms of opportunities and obstacles, does the work form entail for expert freelancers?" And "what motivates the individual to freelance?"

Materials and Methods: The study used the classical grounded theory method, which is a complete method for the entire essay. Data collection was done through five unstructured interviews and four semi-structured interviews based on a combination of chain sampling and purposeful sampling. The interviews were completed with four scientific articles related to the study's research purpose. The analysis was done in three stages; open coding, selective coding and theoretical coding, which resulted in a model of sustainability for expert freelancers.

Findings: Key to obtain sustainability in the work form requires extensive professional competence, which leads to the incentives and preferences of expert freelancers and their employability. Incentives and preferences consist of the pursuit of independence and personal and professional development linked to the freelancer's extensive professional competence. The employability is based on expert freelancers ability to effectively build networks and market their professional skills, as well as the ability to handle the potential economic uncertainty of the work form.

    Abstract [en]

Organizations face the challenges of recruiting and providing opportunities for competence development. The person who performs recruitment has a central role and must have the right competence to be able to work professionally.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the recruitment process in public sector and how managers with recruitment responsibilities experience their own competence in work with recruitment. The questions answered are: How do managers with recruitment responsibilities in public sector describe work with recruitment? What competence do managers with recruitment responsibilities experience as required and demanded in the performance of recruitment? Do managers with recruitment responsibilities in public sector experience competence in work with recruitment?

Through a qualitative study, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with managers who hold recruitment responsibilities in public sector. The result shows that managers with recruitment responsibilities apply a common recruitment process with different steps. They describe the work with recruitment in a similar way. They experience that the work with recruitment require and demand formal and actual competence and certain personal characteristics. Managers with recruitment responsibilities experience competencies in work with recruitment, but suggest that there are development opportunities.

ARBETE I FÖRÄNDRING: En studie om hur arbetet förändrades för undersköterskor när elektronisk dokumentation infördes2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to contribute to increased knowledge about how employees´ perceive that work motivation can be enhanced and the leaders’ impact on it. Furthermore the authors wish to examine which motivational factors that contribute to employees’ work motivation in the organization where the study was conducted and how well their work motivation is promoted. A qualitative method has been used to conduct this study and its material has been gathered from eight qualitative interviews with employees in the organization. The result shows that several factors contribute to the work motivation, for example the influence of social factors and the salary is stressed. The work motivation could, through a series of motivational factors, be more promoted. The manager plays an important role and can influence most of the motivational factors that are needed for enhancing the employees’ work motivation. Focus should therefore be directed towards these motivational factors.

Business modelling in farm-based biogas production: towards network-level business models and stakeholder business cases for sustainability2019In: Sustainability Science, ISSN 1862-4065, E-ISSN 1862-4057, Vol. 14, no 4, p. 1071-1090Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Farm-based biogas production is a promising renewable energy technology with the potential for creating sustainable economic, environmental, and social value. However, Swedish farmers engaged in this activity struggle to turn a profit because of high-investment costs and severe price competition with fossil fuels. One way to address this situation is to re-organize the activity by innovating the business model (BM) towards sustainability. In this study, a team of researchers took an action research approach that proposed solutions for the financial difficulties at a farm cooperative that intended to develop its farm-based biogas production. Two participatory workshops (including researchers, producers, students, and consultants) were conducted using the sustainable business-modelling tool called the Flourishing Business Canvas (FBC). Based on the 215 ideas developed in the workshops, five sustainable BM prototypes were created. These five prototypes form the basis of an approach for initiating the development of a network-level BM for sustainability that highlights its superiority over a single-firm BM. The network-level BM’s main advantage in the farm-based biogas context is its strong focus on stakeholder collaboration that supports the development of a stakeholder business case for sustainability. Overall, this study highlights the usefulness of the network concept in the practice of sustainable BM development. Collaborative business modelling for developing network-level BMs that address environmental and social problems for and with stakeholders can be an effective way to increase long-term financial profit and promote the growth of a firm, a network, or an industry. © 2018 The Author(s)

    Abstract [en]

Previous studies in public health show an increase in Common Mental Disorders, and where some socioeconomic indicators are differently associated with the prevalence of mental illness, it’s uncertain to what extent and how the associations displays in a regional public health context. The purpose of the study is to analyze, on the basis of regional data, the association between different socioeconomic indicators (Occupational group, Educational level, and Economic Stress) and Common Mental Disorders in relation to men and women in different age groups and discuss whether there is a socioeconomic gradient in Common Mental Disorders. The results shows that economic stress is highly associated to mental illness for both men and women in their different age groups. The regression analyzes also show gender and age differences both within the indicators' categories and the statistical significance of the correlations. No significant gradient between the various socioeconomic indicators used and Common Mental Disorders could be demonstrated since there were reverse associations within and between the statistical analyzes. The great variat ion in the correlationanalyzes shows that further stratifications can be made both for the independent and dependent variables.

    Abstract [en]

Purpose: We have chosen, from the employee's perspective, to studying the effects of normativecontrol, in this case in the form of value-based leadership and aspects that can affect the experienceof it.

Method: This study is a constructionist perspective that culminates in a qualitative study with anabductive approach. The material we have received through semi-structured interviews, which wethen analyzed using the chosen theoretical concepts.

Theoretical perspectives: The basis of this study, the analysis is that we studied the normativecontrol in the form of value-based leadership. We have developed our analysis based on theoriesand our accumulated empirical data that we obtained through our survey.

Empiricism: The study's empirical data are based on interviews with four employees and twomanagers in the studied organization, as well as an interview with an independent consultant whohas worked with the implementation of value-based leadership in the company. A total of seveninterviews were conducted.

Results: Our results show that the implementation of value-based leadership within the studiedorganization has not been well received among employees. We found that management has animportant role in the implementation of value-based leadership. According to our research, webelieve that value-based leadership requires a stable organization. It is also important that themanagement is aware of the constant effort required to get the value-based leadership successfulamong the staff of the organization. We also found that employees in the studied organization linkedvalue-based management to cut with increased savings requirements made in the organization. However, it may be too early to draw any general conclusions when they have not worked withvalue-based leadership more than a few years in our study organization.

The aim of the present study is to gain more knowledge about howthe work environment, in the lean contexts, affect worker wellbeing. It is by examining; What positive and negative effects workin lean contexts has on worker well-being and which causes theoutcome depends on. The study was done by analysis of aqualitative research survey with the starting point to understand thecontradictions in the field of knowledge around lean and wellbeing.Theory of SOC, implementation, participation and supportwas central to the study. The results show the effects of lean onwell-being in terms of commitment, stress, safety and jobsatisfaction, and that it is not possible to determine that the workenvironment, in the lean contexts, exclusively generate positive ornegative effects. However, the analysis shows some interestingcauses of the effects. Causes of effects thematised toimplementation, support and participation. The present studycontributes to the knowledge of the outcome of the effects ofworking in a lean context of workers' well-being.The decisive factor seems to be how the concept is applied. In thepresent study further developed Hasle et al. (2011) model of lean, working environment and workers well-being as an explanatorymodel for the outcome of the impact on workers' well-being, basedon the theory of SOC as a framework for wellness.

Intern Kommunikation: Formell intern kommunikation ur ett chefsperspektiv2017Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

In this study the implementation of cooperation directed learning of peer tutoring in elementary general inclusive physical education (GPE) setting in three elementary city schools in Sweden was studied. The purpose was to assess the impact of peer tutoring on the interaction behaviours between students with and without disabilities in GPE. A design of multiple case study with elementary school age students with moderate disabilities (n = 4) was used. Peer tutors (n = 37) were students without disabilities who voluntary participated in a peer tutor training programme. The programme included the collaborative learning values, teaching instructions and communication skills served as the independent measure. Dependent measures were multiple interactions between students with and without disabilities. Data to the case studies were collected through a design of mixed methods, containing both quantitative and qualitative data. Totally 43 observation sessions of inclusive GPE settings were collected on videotapes and analysed using the Computerized Evaluation Protocol of Interactions in Physical Education (CEPI-PE). In addition, interviews with school personnel and children served as a complementary study outcome. The percentage of interactions between target students and peer tutors significantly increased (3.2–11.8%, respectively, p < .05) during peer tutor intervention. This study indicated that peer tutor arrangements can contribute the successful cooperation between students with and without disabilities in inclusive GPE in Swedish elementary school. All four students with moderate disabilities maintained high percentage of activities done independently throughout baseline and intervention phase (50.5 and 57.6%, accordingly). Qualitative data throughout field notes and interviews with school personnel and pupils confirmed a positive class climate change and improvement in peer relation culture. © 2013 Taylor & Francis.

Cooperation directed learning in inclusive physical education2012In: EUCAPA 2012, Book of abstracts, 2012Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Peer tutoring is a type of collaboration directed learning strategy in which students support each other rather than relying only on assistant teacher or paraprofessional assistance. Utilizing peers as a natural support might facilitate interactions between students with and without disabilities. However, the research on cooperation oriented education approaches in Europe is very spare.

    PURPOSE:

This study aims the implementation of cooperation oriented learning of peer tutoring in elementary general inclusive physical education (GPE) setting in three city schools in Sweden. The study was utilized within a Nordplus- Horizontal project.

    METHODS:

A single subject multiple baseline design across elementary school age students with moderate disabilities (n=4) was used. While peer tutor training program was provided for the whole class target students were included when attending GPE, peer tutors (n=37) were students without disabilities who volunteered for this role. The peer tutor training program incorporating disability awareness, teaching instructions and communication skills served as the independent measure. Dependent measures included physical, instructional and social interactions between students with and without disabilities. Totally 43 observations sessions (á 20 minutes) were collected on videotapes. The obtained data were coded using the Computerized Evaluation Protocol of Interactions in Physical Education (CEPI-PE) (Klavina, 2011).

    RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONS:

Age appropriate peer tutors were effective at assisting students with moderate disabilities in inclusive GPE in Swedish elementary schools. The percentage of interactions between target students and peer tutors significantly increased (3.2% to 11.8 % respectively, p<.5). These results replicate findings of previous studies done in the United States demonstrating that peer tutor arrangements can contribute the successful collaboration between students with and without disabilities in inclusive GPE (Houston-Wilson et al., 1997; Klavina & Block, 2008; Lieberman et al., 1997; Murata & Jansma, 1997). All four students with disabilities maintained high percentage of activities done independently throughout baseline and intervention phase (50.5% and 57.6%, accordingly). While collected data did not demonstrate significant change in social interactions for students with disabilities across the two study conditions (11.6% in baseline and 13.9% in intervention), anecdotal notes and social validation outcomes indicated that peer tutoring conditions provided them with the sense of being included in the class. For example, the classroom teachers stated that students with disabilities experienced more social interactions and positive attitude from their classmates during other situations during the school day increasing self-esteem of target students. Along this line, Goodwin and Watkinson (2000) found that factors contributing to positive experience for students with physical disabilities in GPE were a sense of belonging and companionship. Also, school principals and teacher assistants at all four research sites indicated positive change regarding social climate and the quality of the social interactions in the whole class after the study, not only between students with and without disabilities. The positive perceived peer culture (Jansson, 2005) reported by the school personal is an essential additional outcome of the peer tutoring training. The importance of using a class wide peer tutoring approach when including students with moderate disabilities in GPE become obvious.

    Abstract [sv]

Metod Kvantitativ ”Single subject study”, videodokumentation. Kvalitativ intervjuer med fenomenografisk ansats.Projektgrupp Aija Klavina ass. Abstract [en]

Children and young people with disabilities do not have today the same opportunities to participate in sporting and health-promoting activities as other young people without such handicaps. Sporting activities for these children and teenagers can in many cases not be pursued in their leisure time and are not exploited to any great extent within rehabilitation. Within the curricular framework of the school, special needs teaching in Physical Education is available but as with amateur sports provision in general it is dependent on the expertise and methods of the teacher or trainer. Today, the concept of health is defined as more than merely the absence of disease, and there is an ongoing development towards a total health concept, a holistic concept. APA is well in line with WHO’s new International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), where disability is replaced by activity and handicap by participation. The revised version supersedes the previous International Classification of Impairment, Disability and Handicap (ICIDH), whereby the sporting activity becomes a means of achieving both health and participation. Among others, findings shows that adapted physical activity can involve different health aspects for the child or adolescent with a disability e.g. strengthening one's physique and having a good time as well as facilitating their participation in society e.g. getting new friends and becoming someone. On the other hand, physical activity can have both a positive and a negative influence on the different dimensions of health, seen in terms of physical, mental, social and spiritual/existential well-being. It would be desirable to more clearly tie research and educational investment into the area which would reflect not only national and community aims but also favour the individual’s opportunities and benefits in terms of sporting and health-promoting activities.

    Abstract [sv]

    Introduktion

    Resultat

Challenges for Intervention Research in Health and Lifestyle Research – A Systematic Meta-literature Review2015Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Introduction

Health and well-being are two concepts that are widely discussed within today’s society. A major perspective in health and lifestyle research is to investigate what determinants are associated with health. When it comes to the delivery of health interventions several different approaches have been suggested.

    Methods

The meta-synthesis was chosen for synthesis of research studies using a health and lifestyle the review format and analyse meta-questions. The process included the following five phases:

    1. Literature search for articles.

    2. Selection of relevant articles after repeated reading and appraisal of the articles.

    3. Extraction of data from each article and creating a list of findings as key phrases, ideas and concepts for each individual study.

    4. Determining how the findings of the selected studies are related and translating findings into one another.

    5. Synthesizing the translations to produce a new theoretical interpretation.

    Results

The search yielded a total of 561 unique citations and finally 24 citations remained. Of those 11 studies focused on health determinants, while 13 focused on interventions for health promotion. The meta-synthesis led to four recommendations for the design of future intervention studies. (1) scientific disciplines should collaborate in the design, implementation and evaluation of the study. (2) to use theoretical frameworks that focus on health determinants and to apply longitudinal studies with a repeated measures design.(3) involve behavioral interventions. (4) to design face-to-face intervention studies.

    Discussion

Determinants was related to a physical active lifestyle, more specifically high quality school programs for physical education. It could be a starting point for a nationwide approach of daily physical activity in whole society. In all intervention studies physical activity behaviors were included as outcome or intervention program. It is therefore speculated that physical activity behavior could be discussed as one mediator between health determinants and health outcomes.

    Abstract [en]

The overall aim of this systematic meta-literature review was to (1) summarize the findings of review studies focusing on health determinants, (2) give an overview of intervention studies that have been used to facilitate health and lifestyle, and (3) provide recommendations for future studies in health promotion. A literature review, using a meta-method, was conducted to identify health and lifestyle research based on research articles related to health changes. The search yielded a total of 561 unique citations and finally 24 citations remained. Of those, 11 studies focused on health determinants, whereas 13 focused on interventions for health promotion. Results from this meta-synthesis led to four recommendations for the design of future intervention studies. (1) To increase the likelihood of capturing different biopsychosocial aspects of health, researchers from different scientific disciplines should collaborate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the study. (2) It is recommended to use theoretical frameworks that focus on health determinants in longitudinal studies with a repeated measures design. (3) Studies should involve behavioral interventions. (4) Design face-to-face intervention studies where the participant can interact with other persons.

Mer än support?: -En studie om Human Resources roll i förändringsprocesser2015Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
