    Abstract [en]

    We report on a tool prototype for model-based testing of cyber-physical systems. Our starting point is a hybrid-system model specified in a domain-specific language called Acumen. Our prototype tool is implemented in Matlab and covers three stages of model-based testing, namely, test-case generation, test-case execution, and conformance analysis. We have applied our implementation to a number of typical examples of cyber-physical systems in order to analyze its applicability. In this paper, we report on the result of applying the prototype tool on a DC-DC boost converter. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015

    Abstract [en]

    Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are the result of the integration of connected computer systems with the physical world. They feature complex interactions that go beyond traditional communication schemes and protocols in computer systems. One distinguished feature of such complex interactions is the tight coupling between discrete and continuous interactions, captured by hybrid system models.

    Due to the complexity of CPSs, providing rigorous and model-based analysis methods and tools for verifying correctness of such systems is of the utmost importance. Model-based testing (MBT) is one such verification technique that can be used for checking the conformance of an implementation of a system to its specification (model).

    In this chapter, we first review the main concepts and techniques in MBT. Subsequently, we review the most common modeling formalisms for CPSs, with focus on hybrid system models. Subsequently, we provide a brief overview of conformance relations and conformance testing techniques for CPSs. © 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

    Sedan 2005 måste alla börsnoterade företag samt de företag som upprättar en koncernredovisning tillämpa IFRS regelverk. Bakgrunden tar upp revisorers åsikter kring införandet av IFRS samt varför man valde att införa IFRS regelsystem. Bakgrunden har därför naturligt lett oss in på uppsatsens problemformulering ”Hur ser svenska respektive danska revisorer på problematiken kring de internationella redovisningsstandarderna, IFRS, angående immateriella tillgångar?” Syftet med uppsatsen är att ta reda på ifall IFRS har medfört en harmonisering mellan länders olika redovisningar. Vi har valt att titta på standarderna IAS 36, IAS 38 samt IFRS 3 som reglerar immateriella tillgångar. Under uppsatsens gång har två revisorer intervjuats som berättar med egna ord vad transformeringen har inneburit samt vilka konsekvenser IFRS har medfört. Införandet har varit delvis negativt för de mindre företagen då de oftast inte har den kompetens som IFRS kräver. Det har även blivit dyrare för revisionsbyråerna sedan implementeringen. Den svenska revisorn anser att det är svårt att uppnå en harmonisering då IFRS kräver mycket egna tolkningar och antaganden. Den danska revisorn menar på att redovisningarna har blivit mer likartade sedan införandet av IFRS men att de fortfarande är en aning nationellt präglade. Intervjuerna och den teori vi har använt ledde fram till slutsatsen att full harmonisering inte har uppkommit ännu och att IFRS redovisningsstandarder angående immateriella tillgångar är svårtolkade. De revisorer vi intervjuat poängterar att man måste vara väl insatt i IFRS för att kunna göra dessa antaganden och tolkningar på ett korrekt vis.

    The effect of Norflurazon on photosynthetic activity in isolated thylakoids from wheat (Triticum aestivum L: )2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

    This investigation has been performed on Norflurazon (NF) treated young wheat plants with

    emphasis on their capacity to perform light-driven photosynthesis, as an effect of carotenoid

    deficiency. The wheat seeds were soaked for approximately 17 hour in tap water or in water containing NF (28mg l-1 ca 10-4 M). Seedlings were grown for 7 days in a greenhouse (50 μmol m-2 s-1) or in weak light (ca 0.1 μmol m-2 s-1) in order to avoid photodestruction, before chloroplast and thylakoid isolation. NF-treatment and the low light condition also affected chlorophyll content. Isolated chloroplasts from NF-grown plants contained approximately 55 and 16 % of the chlorophyll content as compared to untreated plants grown in weak light or in greenhouse light, respectively.

    In addition, protein separation by polyacryl amide electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) on isolated thylakoids showed that the apoproteins of the LHC II (i.e. LHCP) were undetectable after NF-treatment. Despite a large number of attempts to measure PS II activity in isolated thylakoids, this was proven to give unreliable data and these were therefore excluded from this report.

    The photosynthetic assays were therefore focused on PS I activity, which were compared between plants grown in greenhouse (untreated) or in weak light, with or without NF. As expected, PSI activity is greatly affected by light intensity, during growth as well as during the photosynhtetic assays. In untreated wheat, grown in the greenhouse, the highest activity was found at the strongest light intensity used at distance of 0.25 m from the light source (corresponding to approximately 1440µmol m-2s-1). The PS I activity then declines with decreasing intensity. A similar, albeit not so clear (lower maximum activity at strong light intensities), trend is observed in untreated wheat grown in weak light.

    Thylakoids isolated from NF-treated plants show a clear photoinhibition at strong light but a clear increase in activity at subsequently lower light intensities.

    Abstract [en]

    In this research oriented master’s thesis we have proposed a future vision of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) by utilizing the novel concept of HWA (Heterogeneous Wireless Access). Our proposal is backed by the investigation of the results of experiments conducted at CERES (Centre for Research on Embedded Systems), Halmstad University, Sweden to evaluate the quality of communication for V2V and V2I by using the IEEE 802.11p standard. We have also identified the expected scenarios with need of any other communication technology in replacement of IEEE 802.11p for V2V and V2I communication. We have also investigated the relevant research projects, experiments and their results on the basis of predefined constraints. In the investigated research projects the concept of HWA has been correlated with our proposal of HWA for ITS. We have identified that for smooth integration of any communication technology with IEEE 802.11p, an efficient and smart vertical handover protocol or method will be required. We have presented a blue print of a custom designed vertical handover technique which can be implemented for future ITS with further enhancements and experimental evaluations. We have also evaluated the worst case scenarios to assess the suitability of the HWA for the ITS. We proposed few solutions based on the evaluation of communication scenarios for the integration of IEEE 802.11p with other wireless communication technologies. Finally we have provided some conclusions and suggested future researches which must be conducted to realize the dream of ITS with support of HWA.

    Abstract [en]

    This study aimed to establish Egyptian women's attitudes and beliefs about female genital cutting (FGC) or mutilation by applying a questionnaire module about violence to a subsample of 5249 married women from a total of 19 474 women who participated in the 2005 Egypt Demographic Health Survey. Women were interviewed to determine if they had been exposed to marital violence in the year prior to the survey, their attitudes and beliefs about FGC, and if they physically abused their children. The association of beliefs about FGC with maternal physical abuse was examined, adjusting for exposure to marital violence and other socio-demographic variables. Of the women surveyed 16.4% and 3.4% had been exposed to physical and sexual violence, respectively, during the year prior to the survey. Around 76% of the women surveyed intended to continue the FGC practice, and 69.8% had slapped or hit their children during the year prior to the survey. Holding positive beliefs about the practice of FGC or intending to continue it was associated with maternal physical abuse and this has significant implications for health and welfare workers in Egypt and for society in general.

    Abstract [en]

    This degree project is about sustainable low-cost housing in Ethiopia with a focus on CSSB-technology, which is one method of constructing houses. The project allowed me to visit Ethiopia during seven weeks in 2010, to observe, gather information and to perform tests regarding the specific subject. It is a sub-project to a larger research project initiated in 2002 at Halmstad University in an attempt to introduce low-cost housing technologies for the Kambaata Region in Ethiopia. The aim of the research project has been to develop and test new, sustainable, low-cost building technologies intended for the population, with regard to local traditions, needs and affordability.

    Abstract [en]

    Aim: To investigate agreement between: (1) expected reasons and actual reasons for admission of people with dementia according to informal caregivers; (2) scores on measurement instruments prior to admission and the actual reasons for admission according to informal caregivers.

    Background: Timely admission of people with dementia is a crucial issue. Information is highly warranted on whether informal caregivers are capable of prior identification of causes of admission and, can thus be considered a reliable prospective source on causes of admission.

    Design: A cohort study among informal caregivers of people with dementia who made a transition to institutional long-term care.

    Methods: Qualitative data on the expected and actual reasons for admission were collected via open-ended questions at baseline and follow-up. Furthermore, at baseline, data were collected using measurement instruments to measure pre-admission characteristics. Interviews took place between November 2010-April 2012. After categorizing the answers, the agreement between the expected and actual reasons was calculated. Furthermore, bivariate associations were calculated between the actual reasons for admission and scores on corresponding measurement instruments.

    Results/Findings: For most informal caregivers, there was agreement between their statements on the expected reason and the actual reason for admission. A third of the caregivers showed no conformity. Bivariate associations showed that there is also agreement between the actual reasons for admission and scores on corresponding measurement instruments.

    Conclusion: Informal caregivers can be considered reliable sources of information regarding what causes the admission of a person with dementia. Professional care should anticipate informal caregivers' statements and collaborate with them to strive for timely and appropriate admission. © 2014 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

    The main aim of the present study is to investigate whether there is a difference in retentionbetween two groups of Swedish second language learners of English when they are faced withidioms in a written context or in the form of still pictures. The subjects of the investigation aretwo different groups at a high school in Sweden. Both Group 1 and 2 consist of 24 subjectseach. For this study, 15 idioms were randomly selected. To Group 1, the idioms werepresented in a written context and to Group 2 the idioms were presented in the form of stillpictures. The subjects were given a pre-test and two post-tests to measure their retention.Moreover, the subjects were given a questionnaire in order to learn more about theirperception of idioms. I believe that, on the immediate post-test, Group 1 (the “written contextgroup”) did better than Group 2 (the “still pictures group”). Nevertheless, on the delayed posttest(testing long-term retention), Group 2 remembered more idioms than Group 1. But, it isimportant to note that contextualization of L2 idioms using written context and/or using stillpictures resulted, in general, to be effective strategies for the retention of idioms.

    Abstract [en]

    Live Analysis is a concept that in this paper means analyzing a computer system while it is running. This can be done for several reasons, such as when there is a risk that the system has encryption which can be activated when the system shuts down. Otherwise, it is common if you want to examine network connections, active processes or other phenomena that can be volatile, i.e. disappear when the system shuts down. This work will focus on countermeasures to live forensic analysis and describe different methods and strategies that can be used for these countermeasures. For example, we wrote a program that automatically shuts down the system when you insert a USB memory stick or any other media. These are usually the media which you have your forensic programs on when you do a live analysis. Other important elements of the work are the use of encryption, timestamps and malicious code for challenging live analysis. Our analysis of the topic shows that it is relatively easy to prevent that a live analysis can be performed in a reliable way.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis, we employ optical flow features for the detection of the rigid or non‐rigid single object on an input video. For optical flow estimation, we use the Point Line [PL] method [2] (as a local method) to estimate the motion of the image sequence which is generated from the input video stream. Although the Lukas and Kanade [LK] is a popular local method for estimation of the optical flow, it is weak in dealing with the linear symmetric images even by use of regularization [e.g. Tikhonov]. The PL method is more powerful than the LK method and can properly separate both line flow and point flow. For dealing with rapidly changing data in some part of an image (high motion problem), a gaussian pyramid with five levels (different image resolutions) is employed. In this way, the pyramid height (Level) must be chosen properly according to the maximum optical flow that we expect in each section of the image without iteration. After determining the best‐estimated optical flow vector for every pixel, the algorithm should detect an object on video with its direction to the right or left. By using techniques such as segmentation and averaging the magnitude of flow vectors the program can detect and distinguish rigid objects (e.g. a car) and non‐rigid objects (e.g. a human). Finally the algorithm makes a new video output that includes detected object with flow vectors, the pyramid levels map which has been used for optical flow estimation and a respective binary image.

    The transport industry is one of the fastest growing industries with the sector playing a significant role in negative impact on global warming and pollution through the emission of greenhouse gases. Aviation in particular, has enjoyed growth especially in the few decades. New airlines and aircraft manufacturers are coming up with different innovations and technologies to ensure they make the best possible environmentally friendly aircraft. The new main area of focus has been on how to come up with fuel that will reduce the greenhouse gas-emissions. The stakeholders in the same effort include developed nations like the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, France, Germany, and Canada among others. Energy providers as well as jet fuel suppliers are also making efforts to conserve the environment. The purpose of this thesis is to explore the area of biofuel in aviation by looking into various stakeholders involved in the efforts of the transition from fossil fuel to biofuel. The conclusion of this thesis is that biofuels are viable options in the aviation industries since there have been positive results in the tests made.

    Abstract [en]

    Individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) tend to have a limited capacity for social interactions, communications, and usually show hyper or hypo reactions to sensory stimuli. Time spent in health facilities can therefore be extra stressful. Since music is used for therapy or pain relief in cancer treatment and dementia care for example, it would be interesting to further explore the effects of music. The aim of this literature review was to investigate how individuals with ASD are affected by music. Eleven literature articles were analyzed and as a result, four themes emerged: physical, social, emotional influence and also focus and coping. Anxiety, mood, and social interactions were affected in a positive way by music or music therapy. Physical reactions in the brain were seen in regions underlying music perception and emotional processing. The nurse’s goal is person-centered care, and the knowledge of the effects of music and the possibility to use music in clinical practice, could make working with ASD patients easier. Future research on this subject could provide further knowledge and result in guidelines and routines for an easy use of music in the care of individuals with ASD.

    Vi vill i denna uppsats förklara och beskriva några av de olika marknadsföringsmetoderna som finns på Internet. De metoder som har varit föremål för våra studier är Länkbyte, Pay per click, Banners, e-mail-marknadsföring, Affiliate marketing, Pop-ups och Internetbaserad Viral Marketing. För att få fram information om dessa metoder har vi genomfört två undersökningar. En med användarna av metoderna, nämligen e-butiker, medan en andra undersökning har riktats mot Internetanvändarna vars uppmärksamhet metoderna syftar till att fånga. Resultatet av undersökningarna utmynnar i en jämförelse mellan de två grupper som har undersökts där skillnader och likheter har analyserats, detta har sedan jämförts med den bild som befintlig teori ger av respektive metod. Slutprodukten blir att de fördelar och nackdelar som är förknippade med respektive metod klarläggs samt att metodernas förmåga att generera trafik och öka försäljningen utreds.

    Den moderna sjukvårdens avancerade resurser räddar många liv, men kan också leda till ett utdraget och plågsamt döende. I ett fåtal länder i världen är eutanasi och läkarassisterat självmord ett val för den som drabbats av en obotlig sjukdom som leder till döden. Syftet med denna studie är att beskriva obotligt sjuka patienters uppfattningar om dödshjälp. En litteraturstudie genomfördes och relevanta sökord som motsvarade syftet användes vid artikelsökning. Vid bearbetning av data framkom tre olika kategorier med subkategorier som motsvarade de olika uppfattningarna. Resultatet visar att positiva uppfattningar till dödshjälp kan bero på patientens egna syn på värdighet, självbestämmande och hopp, medan negativa uppfattningar till dödshjälp kan bero på rädsla eller religion. Även kommunikation med vårdpersonal kan påverka patienters uppfattningar om dödshjälp. För att möta obotlig sjuka patienters behov den sista tiden i livet behövs det kunskap om alla sorters tankar patienten kan ha, detta gäller även tankar om dödshjälp. Vidare forskning inom området dödshjälp behövs för att möta alla utmaningar som det innebär när patienter önskar hjälp med att dö.

    Syftet har varit att ta fram en kontrollenhet till ett automatiskt bevattningssystem, utifrån en prototyp med fungerande teknik. Produkten har gjorts konstruktions- och designmässigt kundanpassad med ett varumärke som skapats av studenterna. Stort fokus har legat på att göra produkten användarvänlig. Samtidigt genomfördes arbetet med att skapa ett varumärke, vilket omfattade formuleringen av affärsidé, vision, kärnvärden, identitet, profil och image. Det primära kärnvärdet för produkten är enkelhet. De sekundära kärnvärdena är kvalitet, funktionalitet och nytänkande. Vid god design återspeglas kärnvärdet i produkten, varför detta tillsammans med uppsatta krav och önskemål låg till grund vid konceptutvärderingen. Resultatet av projektet är bevattningssystemet IRIS - IRrigation In Simplicity. Namnet återspeglar produktens kärnvärde, enkelhet. Produkten är användarvänlig och har konstruktions- och designmässigt hållbara och genomtänkta lösningar. Dess formspråk och signum särskiljer den från övriga produkter på marknaden.

    Syftet med vårt examensarbete var att undersöka vilka attityder till matematik högskolestudenter hade under sin tid på ungdomsgymnasiet, vilka faktorer som påverkade dessa attityder och hur de ser på matematik idag. Vi ville också ta reda på hur vi som blivande lärare kan bemöta elever med en negativ inställning till matematik. Detta undersökte vi genom att intervjua fyra studenter på en högskola i västra Sverige. Resultatet visade att tre av fyra intervjupersoner hade en positiv inställning till matematik och en hade en neutral inställning till matematik både under tiden på högskolan och på ungdomsgymnasiet. Tre av fyra studenter insåg nyttan av att studera och kunna matematik först på högskolan. Resultatet visade också att faktorer som motivation, intresse och skolmiljö (lärare, inlärningsstilar och kurslitteratur) till viss del påverkade deras attityd till matematik men att de först på högskolan fick möjlighet att reflektera över faktorerna. Självkänsla/självförtroende, möjligheter att påverka sin utbildning samt föräldrar ansåg studenterna inte hade en större betydelse för deras inställning till matematik. Sammanfattningsvis kan vi konstatera att skolan bör uppmana elever till att reflektera över sin egen skolgång för att de ska kunna förstå nyttan av kunskap, vilket kan bidra till en positiv inställning till olika skolämnen, speciellt matematik.

    Jeansproducenter använder sig av starka varumärken, vars attribut är till för att ge kundvärde. Syftet med denna uppsats är att ta reda på vilken betydelse varumärket, och dessa attribut, har vid köp av jeans. En ytterligare ansats är att urskilja olika marknadsföringsstrategier och hur de påverkar konsumenten. Detta görs genom en enkätundersökning som inriktas mot studenter på Högskolan i Halmstad. Resultatet visar att 71% av respondenterna är märkeslojala och att Lee, Levi´s, Diesel och Crocker är ohotat störst på marknaden. Att attributen är oerhört viktiga kan också utläsas av resultatet. Speciellt kvalitet, passform och bra storlekar värderas högt. Resultatet visar också att marknadsföringsstrategierna blir allt mer komplexa för att företagen ska kunna kommunicera de attribut dess varumärke står för.

    Problem enunciation: What pros and cons could the choice of recruitment strategy mean for a small Swedish firm.

    Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to give recruiters a better understanding of how a small Swedish company could use different recruitment strategies, together with systematic preparations, to affect the experienced recruitment result. Another purpose is to study if earlier mentioned international research about small firms’ recruitment strategies is applicable to a small Swedish firm.

    Theoretical framework: The section initiates by introducing the reader to the subject through describing Human resource management with a focus on recruitment. Then we point out the importance of systematic preparations prior to recruiting. Thereafter we present five common recruitment strategies. The chapter ends with reasoning about successful recruitment and wrong fit recruitment.

    Method: We have used a qualitative approach to gather profound data for the study.

    Empirical perspective: The empirical framework presents the fallout of the interviews we had with the studied company.

    Conclusion: Our study implies that earlier international research about the challenges in small firms’ recruitment is applicable to our studied firm. The study also demonstrates that our firm have had and has a lack of resources, structure and discipline which is pointed out by the researchers. Particularly the neglection of systematic preparations, which increases the risk of wrong fit recruitment. Our result also shows that the firm uses advertising, network recruitment, recruitment firms and recruiting through the own website. Network recruitment was earlier considered to be fitting when the staffing requirement was very high and speed was of importance. Recruitment firms were on the other hand considered to have many valueable advantages and tended to generate successful recruitments.

    How can a multi project organisation use Wiki to support improvement of knowledge management and project evaluation to become a learning organisation? The main purpose of this thesis is to give management and employees a better understanding of how Wiki supports knowledge management and project evaluation. The second purpose is to illustrate possible difficulties and pit falls that comes with the implementation of Wiki based learning. The theoretical framework initiates by explaining multi project organizations, then describes Argyris and Schöns theories about organizational learning and learning organizations. The second half of the theory chapter brings up theories about important areas for a learning organization. We have used a qualitative approach to gather profound data for the study. The empirical framework presents the fallout of the interviews we had with the studied company. Our study demonstrates how Wikis can be a great support to improve knowledge management and project evaluation. A Wiki functions as a knowledge repository that integrates divisions in an organization and facilitates to take part of, document and share knowledge. The study also demonstrates that problems can occur when implementing a Wiki. This is shown by managerial resistance due to the attitude towards knowledge management and an uncertainty about quality control of a Wiki’s content. To answer this resistance the employees can suggest a demonstration where they during a period of time use Wiki to describe when it could have benefited them in the daily activities. To be follow up with a trialperiod if the outcome is successful.

    Reconfigurable Optical Interconnection Networks for High-Performance Embedded2005Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    In embedded computer and communication system the capacity demand for interconnection networks is increasing continuously in order to achieve high-performance systems. Recent breakthroughs show that by using reconfigurability inside a single chip substantial performance gains can be added. However, in this thesis the focus is on system level reconfigurability (between chips or modules) and the performance gains that potentially can be achieved by having support for runtime reconfigurability on the system level.This thesis addresses the field of runtime system level reconfigurability with the use of optics in switches and routers for data- and telecommunications, and in multi-processor systems used for embedded signal processing. Several reconfigurable systems for switching and routing with support to adapt for asymmetric traffic patterns are proposed and compared to identify how design choices affect flexibility, performance etc. The proposed solutions are characterized by their multistage optical interconnection networks with reconfigurable shuffle patterns, where the reconfigurability is provided by micro-optical-electrical mechanical systems. More specifically, application-specific bottlenecks can be resolved by reconfiguring the interconnection network according to the current application demands. The benefits of the architectural solutions are confirmed by simulations that clearly show that the architectures can achieve high performance for both symmetric application characteristics and for several classes of asymmetric application characteristics. The final architectural solution is characterized by electronic packet-switches interconnected through an optical backplane, which is reconfigurable. Moreover, the thesis presents how several signal processing applications can be mapped to run concurrently in a time-shared scheme on a single reconfigurable multi-processor system that has high flexibility to adapt for the application currently at hand. The interconnection network is then adapted (reconfigured) according to the demands of the currently executed application in each time instance. The analysis shows that it is feasible to build such a system with today’s components.

    This paper presents a way of building modular systems with a powerful optical interconnection network. Each module, placed on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB), has a generic optical communication interface with a simple electronic router. Together with optical switching using micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology, packet switching over reconfigurable topologies is possible. The interconnection system gives the possibility to integrate electronics with optics without changing existing PCB technology. Great interest from industry is therefore expected and the cost advantages are several: reuse of module designs, module upgrades without changing the PCB, low-cost conventional PCB technology, etc. In the version described in this paper, the interconnection system has 48 bidirectional optical channels for intra-PCB communication on each board. For inter-PCB communication, a backplane with 192 bidirectional optical channels supports communication between twelve PCBs. With 2.5 Gbit/s per optical channel in each direction, the aggregated intra-PCB bit rate is 120 Gbit/s full duplex (on each PCB) while the aggregated inter-PCB bit rate is 480 Gbit/s full duplex. A case study shows the feasibility of the interconnection system in a parallel processing system for radar signal processing.

    An optoelectronic router with a shuffle exchange network is presented and enhanced by the addition of micro-optoelectromechanical systems (MOEMS) in the network to add the ability to reconfigure the shuffle network. The MOEMS described here are fully connected any-to-any crossbar switches. The added reconfigurability provides the opportunity to adapt the system to different common application characteristics. Two representative application models are described: The first has symmetric properties, and the second has asymmetric properties. The router system is simulated with the specified applications and an analysis of the results is carried out. By use of MOEMS in the optical network, and thus reconfigurability, greater than 50% increased throughput performance and decreased average packet delay are obtained for the given application. Network congestion is avoided throughout the system if reconfigurability is used.

    Application specific architectures are highly desirable in embedded parallel computing systems at the same time as designers strive for using one embedded parallel computing platform for several applications. If this can be achieved, the cost can be decreased in comparison to using several different embedded parallel computing systems. This paper presents a novel approach of running several high-performance applications concurrently on one single parallel computing system. By using a reconfigurable backplane interconnection system, the applications can be run efficiently with high network flexibility since the interconnect network can be adapted to fit the application that is being processed for the moment. More precisely, this paper investigates how the space time adaptive processing (STAP) radar algorithm and the stripmap synthetic aperture radar (SAR) algorithm can be mapped on a multi-cluster processing system with a reconfigurable optical interconnection system realized by a micro-optical-electrical mechanical system (MOEMS) crossbars. The paper describes the reconfigurable platform, the two algorithms and how they individually can be mapped on the targeted multiprocessor system. It is also described how these two applications can be mapped simultaneously on the optical reconfigurable platform. Implications and requirements on communication bandwidth and processor performance in different critical points of the two applications are presented. The results of the analysis show that an implementation is feasible with today's MOEMS technology, and that the two applications can be successfully run in a time-sharing scheme, both at the processing side and at the access for interconnection bandwidth.

In this paper, a runtime reconfigurable modular design approach is presented, using state-of-the-art microoptical-electrical mechanical system (MOEMS) components.     Health is a broad concept which can be viewed from different perspectives. Different parts can be included in the term such as disease, the absence of disease and well-being. Companies have

    different resources available to create benefitial conditions for individuals when it comes to their health. An example of a resource a company can use is a tax-free contributions in the form of a

    "healthcare subsidy" or "health allowance". The purpose of this study is to highlight the various conversations people have about healthcare subsidies in the workplace and our discussion is viewed partly from a sociocultural perspective. The authors did an inductive study. Seven interviews were conducted to collect empirical data. The discourses that emerged included the individual's own responsibility, the role of health care premium and that the talks were positive about health care.

    Problembeskrivning: Det finns närmare 500 förlag i Sverige, ca 70 av dessa är anslutna till Svenska Förläggarföreningen som uppger att det ges ut ca 1000 nya skönlitterära titlar i Sverige under ett år. Enligt Nationalbiografin utges ca 2300 titlar under ett år. Endast en bråkdel av all skönlitteratur som ges ut får publicitet i dagstidningar. Varken titlar, författare eller förlag. Syfte: Syftet är att undersöka om det går att urskilja om det finns kriterier och mönster för vilka författare och verk som får uppmärksamhet i pressen.Metod: Kvalitativ forskningsintervjuSlutsats: Vissa författare och förlag har en högre status hos kulturredaktionerna. Man kan tala om att de har kvalificerat sig för att höra till dem som blir omnämnda på kultursidorna. Vissa författare kommer aldrig på tal för recension, och vissa som varit kvalificerade kan "diskvalificeras" i ett senare skede. En författare kan bli omskriven som nyhet, och det finns ändå en möjlighet för en författare eller ett verk som inte hör till de kvalificerade, om ett verk visar sig höra hemma inom ett tema som redaktionen uppfattar som en trend.

    Allt fler företag tillämpar strategin att utvidga sina etablerade varumärken frö att minska de stora kostnader som det innebär att bygga nya varumärken. Varumärket är ofta en av företagets främsta tillgångar och det krävs en väl planlagd varumärkesutvidgning för att inte förändra dess identitet. Syftet med studien är att förklara varför en varumärketsidentitet riskerar att förändras vid utvigning. Resultatet visar att de två undersökningsföretafen ICA och Coop aktivt arbetar för att minska riskerna. Dels genom sekventiell utvidning dels genom att hålla utvidgningens identitet förenligt med kärnvarumärkets.

    Abstract [en]

    Living with ADHD can lead to a number of problems for the individuals receiving the

    diagnosis. Social- and psychological difficulties and other mental illnesses like

    depression and anxiety are all conditions that can occur when individuals are

    diagnosed with ADHD. Based on these facts it is urgent to examine young adult’s

    own experiences of what it means to live with an ADHD diagnosis to find ways to

    reduce the risks following the diagnosis. This study’s aim turns focus on young adults

    with ADHD, and the purpose is to increase the knowledge in what’s important after

    receiving a diagnosis from a nursing perspective. Four young women who all had

    received their diagnosis during the past year were recruited to the study. The

    informants were randomized from a children's psychiatric registry in Region Halland

    .

    The informants were contacted by phone and asked to participate in the study. Before

    the interviews started they were asked to fill in a consent form. The findings from

    your study clearly show a correlation between ADHD and other troubles in young

    adults everyday life. The majority of the informants describe feelings of exclusion

    with multiple failures in adaption as a result. Receiving a diagnosis contributed to get

    an explanation for their troubles, not only for themselves but to their environment as

    well. The result of the study also show the group's fear of changing health care

    contact mainly concerning the transition from child psychiatry for adult psychiatry.

    The study shows a high prevalence of trouble among individuals who have ADHD

    but also what an enormous personal profit it may mean getting diagnosis when the

    support can be individually adjusted. The study is based on only four informants and

    the result is therefore not possible to generalize on a larger group, however, the study

    can be used as background for a larger study with more informants. The current state

    of scientific knowledge in the field today are insufficient and most facts are based on

    individuals own experiences. We hope that our findings can contribute to further

    research that can benefit the nursing care for the patients.

    Social media has increased exponentially since the Internet reached people's homes during the 90's. The social media Facebook alone has 243 million users in Europe, social media also became a primary choice for most users to interact with each other. In a  world where the information flow and each relationship are constant, a flaw emerged in how the social media interacts with the user. To investigate how individuals experience notifications in social media, affect theory by Silvan Tomkins was used and then supplemented by a literature review. The notifications were then examined qualitatively  using tests and  with the help of users in a focus group setting. This study resulted in  a defined set of emotions that individuals experience of notifications as well as  opinions  about  existing  functionality  and  proposed guidelines from a user-centered perspective.

In the Victorian period the use of phrenology and physiognomy was widespread. In Jane Eyre Charlotte Brontë cleverly uses phrenology and physiognomy to unravel the complexity of her characters. The shape of a person's skull becomes more than bumps on the head, an ugly man is no longer ugly and a plain heroine turns out to be not at all plain.

    Tailoring the Optical Response of III-V Nanowire Arrays2017Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Semiconductor nanowires show a great deal of promise for applications in a wide range of important fields, including photovoltaics, biomedicine, and information technology. Developing these exciting applications is strongly dependent on understanding the fundamental properties of nanowires, such as their optical resonances and absorption spectra. In this thesis we explore optical absorption spectra of arrays of vertical III-V nanowires with a special emphasis on structures optimized to enhance absorption in the solar spectrum. First, we analyze experimentally determined absorption spectra of both indium phosphide (InP) and gallium phosphide (GaP) nanowire arrays. The study provides an intuitive understanding of how the observed absorption resonances in the nanowires may be tuned as a function of their geometrical parameters and crystal structure. As a consequence, the spectral position of absorption resonances can be precisely controlled through the nanowire diameter. However, the results highlight how the blue-shift in the optical absorption resonances as the diameter of the nanowires decreases comes to a halt at low diameters. The stop point is related to the behavior of the refractive indices of the nanowires. The wavelength of the stop is different for nanowire polytypes of similar dimensions due to differences in their refractive indices. We then present a theoretical argument that it is important to consider symmetry properties when tailoring the optical modes excited in the nanowires for enhanced absorption. We show that absorption spectra may be enhanced compared to vertical nanowires at normal incidence by tilting the nanowires with normal incidence light, or by using off-normal incidence with vertical nanowires. This is because additional optical modes inside the nanowires are excited when the symmetry is broken. Looking forward to omnidirectional applications, we consider branched nanowires as a way to enhance the absorption spectra at normal incidence by taking advantage of simultaneous excitation of the spectrally different optical modes in the branches and the stems. Third, we describe in theoretical terms how integrating distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) with the nanowires can improve absorption spectra compared to conventional nanowires. DBRs provide a way to employ light trapping mechanisms which increases the optical path length of the excited modes and thereby improves the absorption of the excited modes. At normal incidence, DBR-nanowires improve the absorption efficiency to 78%, compared to 72% for conventional nanowires. We show that the efficiency is increased to 85% for an off-normal incident angle of 50˚. Overall, our results show that studies of optical resonances in nanowires that take the light-matter interaction into account provide opportunities to develop novel optical and optoelectronic functionalities in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

    A near-unity unselective absorption spectrum is desirable for high-performance photovoltaics. Nanowire arrays are promising candidates for efficient solar cells due to nanophotonic absorption resonances in the solar spectrum. The absorption spectra, however, display undesired dips between the resonance peaks. To achieve improved unselective broadband absorption, we propose to enclose distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) in the bottom and top parts of indium phosphide (InP) nanowires, respectively. We theoretically show that by enclosing only two periods of In0.56Ga0.44As/InPDBRs, an unselective 78% absorption efficiency (72% for nanowires without DBRs)is obtained at normal incidence in the spectral range from 300 nm to 920 nm. Under oblique light incidence, the absorption efficiency is enhanced up to about 85% at an incidence angle of 50º. By increasing the number of DBR periods from two to five, the absorption efficiency is further enhanced up to 95% at normal incidence. In this work we calculated optical spectra for InP nanowires, but the results are expected to be valid for other direct band gap III-V semiconductor materials. We believe that our proposed idea of integrating DBRs in nanowires offers great potential for high-performance photovoltaic applications. ©2018 Håkan Pettersson et al., published by De Gruyter, Berlin/Boston.

    Geometrically designed III-V nanowire arrays are promising candidates for optoelectronics due to their possibility to excite nanophotonic resonances in absorption spectra. Strong absorption resonances can be obtained by proper tailoring of nanowire diameter, length and pitch. Such enhancement of the light absorption is, however, accompanied by undesired resonance dips at specific wavelengths. In this work, we theoretically show that tilting of the nanowires mitigates the absorption dips by exciting strong Mie resonances. In particular, we derive a theoretical optimum inclination angle of about 30 degrees at which the inclined nanowires gain 8% in absorption efficiency compared to vertically standing nanowires in a spectral region matching the intensity distribution of the sun. The enhancement is due to engineering the excited modes inside the nanowires regarding the symmetry properties of the nanowire/light system without increasing the absorbing material. We expect our results to be important for nanowire-based photovoltaic applications. © 2017 SPIE.

    Geometrically designed III-V nanowire arrays are promising candidates for disruptive optoelectronics due to the possibility of obtaining a strongly enhanced absorption resulting from nanophotonic resonance effects. With normally incident light on such vertical nanowire arrays, the absorption spectra exhibit peaks that originate from excitation of HE1m waveguide modes in the constituent nanowires. However, the absorption spectra typically show dips between the absorption peaks. Conventionally, such weak absorption has been counteracted by either making the nanowires longer or by decreasing the pitch of the array, both alternatives effectively increasing the volume of absorbing material in the array. Here, we first study two approaches for compensating the absorption dips by exciting additional Mie resonances: 1) oblique light incidence on vertical InP nanowire arrays and 2) normal light incidence on inclined InP nanowire arrays. We then show that branched nanowires offer a novel route to achieve broadband absorption by taking advantage of simultaneous excitations of Mie resonances in the branches and guided HE1m modes in the stem. Finite element method calculations show that the absorption efficiency is enhanced from 0.72 for vertical nanowires to 0.78 for branched nanowires under normal light incidence. Our work provides new insight for the development of novel efficient photovoltaics with high efficiency and reduced active material volume.
