    Abstract [en]

    The thesis was done on assignment and in cooperation with Erteco Rubber & Plastics AB, the assigned project was to create a metal-replacement of an existing aluminium-bracket for an armrest in a truck cab. The goal of the new product is to achieve weight reduction, a reduced material volume and a reduced manufacturing cost. The final product result that the students developed was in direct correlation of the preliminary work that were done in the field of “metal replacement” gave the group an idea of what is possible and what to avoid when creating a detail in plastics. With the preliminary work and the list of demands given to the group the design process of product suggestions started and were worked on until a final suggestion was decided to begin further development into a final result. The final result was a solution where structural ribs were implemented perpendicular to the surface where most of the absorbed force is happening. To achieve the best possible result where the constructional demands match or improve what the original aluminium bracket could achieve, the group decided to use the highest amount of ribs possible while still following the demands on rib-thickness and rib-spacing The results that the students developed were done with help from several tools, among these were the CAD-tool Catia v5 which was used to create the new design and create simpler FEM-analysis. ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise FEA was used during the timespan of the project to create more advanced FEM-analysis with more exact results. Among the two mentioned Moldex3D was also used to create mold-filling analysis.

    Abstract [en]

    A large number of people today suffer from disabilities where a rheumatic disorder is a common cause. A rheumatic disorder is a disease which affects joints, muscles, bones causing pain and stiffness in the joints. Rehabilitation is often required in form of physical activity in order to regain the normal function. The hand is one of the body parts that are often affected by a rheumatic disorder. With various measuring instruments occurs the evaluation and diagnosis by tests of the grip strength. These instruments are often expensive and sometimes complicated and do not take into account of all the joints of the fingers and applies no special ergonomic guidelines.

    The purpose of the project was to improve the conditions for people with rheumatism to measure their grip strength by giving suggestions on how accessibility, awareness of the effects with training and increase encouragement for further continued training could be solved. The goal was to develop an ergonomic formed concept of a measuring instrument and generate a prototype that demonstrates both design and function. With pre and post values the user would be able to follow their progress towards a better hand function in terms of grip strength. A survey was done which was an important part of the project to ensure that the users were involved, since the project occurred dynamical. The survey showed a great interest to be able to make measurements at home. 

    The project resulted in a concept with a CAD assembly with accompanying sketches and a prototype which only demonstrated on design. The concept was designed with the help of scientific articles and ergonomic guidelines, and by this the purpose was achieved. Since the prototype does not show any functions, one part of the goal was not reached. Even though the goal wasn’t fully reached, the concept is based on scientific evidence and the group predicts a bright future for further development towards a finished product.

    Abstract [en]

    This master thesis has been carried out as a product development project incollaboration with Coloreel. The aim of the study was to optimize the fixation unit inan instant thread colouring machine.The research questions were:1. In what other ways could the function of the fixation unit be designed?2. How do the generated concepts perform compared to the present solutionregarding energy efficiency?Within this master thesis the authors went through all the initial stages in a productdevelopment process. The focus in the beginning of the process was to get to know theproduct’s functions and its requirements. The function of the unit, creating heat, wasthe basis for the concept generation.Two of the concepts were evaluated as most promising concept for creating heat in thefixation unit. They were, replacing one of the heating elements with a reflector andusing hot air. To verify the proof of the concept an experiment was carried out. Theexperiment showed that replacing one heating element with a reflector resulted in ahuge difference in the reached temperature. The conclusion was that the reflector usedin the study was not as effective as the present solution with the two heating elements.When using hot air, the temperature reached high enough, but the energy consumptionexceeded the present fixation unit solution. The conclusion was that these conceptscould not be used to replace the present solution in the way the concepts are designedtoday.Concept generation was also conducted regarding the mechanical solution for openingthe heating elements. Two concepts were constructed in CAD and evaluated to makesure that they could meet the requirement of the machine. Only one of the concepts wasassessed to fulfil all the requirements.

    Abstract [sv]

    Följande examensarbetes rapport handlar om utveckla konstruktion, modellering samt ner skalning av ett projekt, glasögon upphittaren. Arbetet som rapporten bygger på är utfört i samarbete med uppdragsgivaren Birger Klasson. Projektet innefattar utvecklingen av ett gammalt projekt som gjorts på högskolan innan som handlar om glasögon upphittare, deras grupp fokuserade på teknologin som användes för att mota signaler. Skälet bakom utvecklingen är att skala ner den gamla prototypen men även modellera en smidigare design för skalet. Genom några möten mellan uppdragsgivaren och författarna har idén kommit fram om att uppdatera chipet med GPS sändare inbyggt med ljud-enheten. De ska kopplas ihop med en mobil enhet genom Bluetooth-signaler. Flera olika lösningsförslag har utarbetats där det till slut uppenbarats två olika koncept på lösningar. De två lösningarna har vägts upp mot varandra utifrån metoden från principkonstruktionen. Resultatet av dessa bedömningar blev ett förslag där skalet komprimeras till chipets storlek för smidigare grepp runt bågarna, samt att den inte tar lika mycket utrymme. Prototypen visade sig vara lyckad,  onstruktionens dimension är hälften jämfört med den ursprungliga prototypen. Produkten har en ny smalare design, fäster sig lättare på glasögon samt uppdaterad teknologi i chip och mottagare.  De olika metoderna som följdes under arbetets gång kom från tillverknings-, primär-, och principkonstruktions kurserna.

    Abstract [en]

    The project has involved the development of two kinds of shooting targets in partnership with Marcus Bergkvist and Christopher Åkerblom. The project from the client was divided into two parts. This thesis discusses solutions for hands-on transport, development of tripods and an overall design. The second thesis affect resetting systems for the products.

    The work was done with a process and methodology based on design perspectives. This process has involved the search of relevant data which has provided the platform and opportunity for appropriate and purposeful design work.

    Concept development has been done using hand sketches and Photoshop, where a simple visualization of different concepts for the tripods has been produced. The next step relies on evaluating concepts in relation to the requirements and likings collected and the best concept has been chosen and developed.

    The design work was based primarily on work in SolidWorks to simultaneously maintain an ongoing partnership in the project, involving development of the resetting and design features. In this way, a link between design and construction has been active through the whole project. Where design at first took account for the changes made ​​in the construction based developments. In this way, the products has been optimized and developed in a context where the design meets the construction to achieve the best results. Design developments that’s been done required an expression of keywords within the semantics and other design features.

    This has resulted in two products in terms of concepts and prototypes which were developed with help from clients and sponsors. The prototypes showed good results and has fulfilled the required specifications.

    Abstract [en]

    The following report conducted with the collaboration with the University of Halmstad

    and Halmstad Gummi Fabric (HGF) rubber company which is in Halmstad.

    The focus on the project is to reduce the cost of the transfer mold material, increase

    efficiency of production, save energy and redesign the transfer mold.

    The methodology used in this project is based on the Quality Functional Deployment

    (QFD) which is widely appreciated globally in the product development, and other

    product development and mold design methods, FEM analysis are applied to achieve

    the goals.

    The implementation of this methods is efficient and beneficial to reduce the material

    cost and redesign the transfer mold without compromising the initial quality of the

    product.

    This thesis resulted in, for the transfer molding plates we recommended the proper

    material for the plates and the insulation parts. And we redesign the transfer mold

    plates and optimized the design for reducing the cost. We did FEM analysis for

    optimization purpose, and the benefits to optimizing this is to reduce the material cost,

    machining cost and labour cost. As well as, we add the insulation plates in the design

    so that the transfer molding plates works efficiently with the reducing the energy wastes.

    Detta examensarbete är i grunden ett konstruktionsprojekt med syfte att utveckla en ny generation av dekontamineringsutrustning kallad Incinerator åt Getinge Sterilization AB. Incineratorn är en tryckbehållare som ska avdöda farliga sporer och utvecklades ursprungligen på 70-talet. Denna har uppdaterats flera gånger under dess livsspann men konstruktionen för med sig flera problem som nu ska lösas med en helt ny generation, kallad Incinerator 2.0. Projektet har främst handlat om konstruktion men beskriver även processteknik och dekontamineringprocess av farligt media. Då detta examensarbete berör tryckbehållare och dekontamineringsprocesser så har flera standarder och direktiv som t.ex. ASME BPVC och AFS2005:01 följts.  I detta examensarbete har en grund till Incineratorn 2.0 tagits fram i form av princip- och primärkonstruktion. Den här rapporten är en sammanställning av resultaten som har uppkommit under arbetets gång samt det slutliga resultatet som har uppnåtts.

    Abstract [en]

    To  ensure  success  in  the  rapid  pace  of  globalization,  it  is  crucial  for  companies  to understand the management practice within and outside national boundaries. This study investigates  the  influences  of  national  culture  on  new  product  development  (NPD) collaboration between China and Sweden.  

    By applying  the  qualitative approach  with a single  case,  the  study  shows that national culture influences on NPD  collaboration  by  means  of organizational  culture and  work values   regarding   six   national   culture   dimensions   between   China   and   Sweden. Concerning  organizational  culture,  power  distance  and  masculinity  versus  femininity dimensions  of  national  culture  have  impacts  on  NPD  collaboration.  In  terms  of  work values, the  influences  of power  distance and uncertainty avoidance are  ranked at  first place, whereas individualism and collectivism, masculinity  versus femininity, harmony and long-term versus short-term orientation are relative weak comparing with first two dimensions.  

    However,  the  results  also  show  that  some  organizational  characteristics  including uncertainty  avoidance,  long-term  versus  short-term  orientation  and  harmony  have barely  effects on NPD  collaboration. This  implies that there  could  be  context-specific factors  that  affect  performances  of  NDP  collaboration  regardless  of  in  which  country the NPD project takes place.

    Abstract [en]

    The authors, Oskar Geraldsson and Kristoffer Ylander Mikkelsen, together with Svenska Konstruktörsbyrån AB, have customized and optimized a granulate 3D printer. The main goal for the authors is to improve the cooling of the liquid ABS plastic leaving the nozzle to prevent displacement and dislocation during the printing process. Furthermore the printers current state is poor resulting in further work regarding the overall mechanics of the printer such as the power supply, electrical motors and linear guides.

    The authors have studied existing 3D printers and searched through scientific articlesto get inspiration and knowledge of the mechanical process of the printers aswell as the materials.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis involves the process of designing a wagon for the company Majgården AB, a company working with bakery production.

    The used method follows mostly Fredy Olsson´s (1995) work process using Principle Design as well as Primary Design in order to design a final concept. Initially, in the beginning of the thesis, it was analyzed how the product will be used and in what kind of environment. The analysis allowed a definition of requirements that the product needs to fulfill. Next step included extracting different product sketches that could be used as possible solutions. The solutions were compared against the requirements and a final, optimal concept was chosen to continue the work with. The final sketch was then further improved. The design of the final concept was then fully finalized with help of a 3D program.

    Abstract [en]

    This report will be about a mechanical design project that has been developed by Christian Wikman and Oliver Öhman. The assignment was given by EcoistVehicleTM to complete a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Halmstad University.

    Princip- och Primärkonstruktion (Olsson, 1995), Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics (Gillespie, 1992) and a large amount of research on the web has been used as the foundation for the method that’s been used all through this project.

     

    EcoistVehicleTM is a vehicle project started by Thomas Koch. It is an electrically powered, single seat, three wheeled vehicle that's driven by a single rear wheel. The idea behind the car is to transport the driver to his destination in an environmentally friendly way. The car is suited for commuting in the countryside with a range of 40-50km. The purpose of the assignment that was given in the spring of 2017 was to look into faster methods of designing and manufacturing a swingarm for the vehicle.

     

    Our assignment was to design and possibly manufacture a swingarm for the driving rear wheel that should fit the specifications of the car and have a relatively fast manufacturing process for a series of 10-20 cars. Our mentor and taskmaster has a request to 3D-print the larger parts of the swingarm then after work the mounting surfaces and mating surfaces with milling.

    Several manufacturing processes used in the automotive industry for the production of motorcycle swingarms will be screened and compared to get the method that will fit this project.

     

    The authors have contributed with a higher knowledge of 3D-printing, specifically aluminum, different design concepts together with analysis of the design to test the solidity of the final product.
