Intermediära fönster: arena för adolescent självutveckling Subjektiva upplevelser i gränssnittet människa och maskin1998Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Optimering av Sandwichelement2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Ägarstrukturens inverkan på organisationens styrning1995Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Self-leadership is described as a process where individuals, based on their own ability influences themselves to handle different situations they are exposed to. Previous research indicates that self-leadership strategies have an impact on intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction. The research also shows that job satisfaction has an impact on employee turnover. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding if employees’ self-leadership affects the employee turnover in the restaurant industry by analyzing job satisfaction as a link between self-leadership and employee turnover. The restaurant industry is an industry with high employee turnover, which is facing the challenge of high growth in the future. One of the reasons for the high employee turnover is because the employees have not reached the desired job satisfaction. An individual who deals with its own self-leadership leads to an improvement of job performance and attitude towards its work. A quantitative method in the form of a questionnaire study was conducted to investigate the problem. A total of 302 questionnaires were sent out with 102 completed questionnaires, the response rate was 34 %. The results did not show any direct impact between self-leadership and employee turnover. However, the result agreed with the theories that there is a relationship between self-leadership and job satisfaction and between job satisfaction and employee turnover. This indicates that there is an indirect impact between self-leadership and employee turnover.

Dömd till livstids lärande: Lärande och kompetensutveckling inom företagshälsovården2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Att främja normal förlossning: Barnmorskans främsta uppgift2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Pregnancy and childbirth are in most cases a normal life event. Over the past decades the rate of instrumental birth and caesarean sections has increased at the expense of normal birth. Despite more interventions no difference is seen in the maternal or perinatal morbidity or mortality. The midwife’s work encompasses the normal pregnancy and labour. The aim of this study was to describe how the midwife can promote normal birth. The study was conducted as a literature study in which 13 scientific articles, with both quantitative and qualitative approach, were analyzed. Three categories emerged that explained how the midwife promotes normal birth. The midwife creates through closeness a positive relationship to the woman and gives guidance. By using herself as a source of knowledge, the midwife’s senses, experiences from previous labours and formal knowledge, contribute to make correct decisions. The midwife supports and confirms the normalcy, from the woman’s individual needs, and thereby creates a safe environment for the woman that prevents her from unnecessary interventions. As there is a medical culture within the maternity care, the midwife’s work with normal birth needs to be strengthened. Since the organization has an impact on the midwife’s promoting work, further research is needed in this area.

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Despite the majority of all pregnancies are assessed as normal, the interventions during labourprocess increase, where caesarean section without medical reason is one part. One reason may be that care for women with uncomplicated pregnancy is conducted at the same level as a complicated pregnancy. A caesarean section may result in increased risk of health problem for both the woman and the child. The midwife´s work encompasses the normal, uncomplicated pregnancy and labour. The midwife also has the possibility within the working range to promote women’s health. The aim of this study was to gain an increased understanding of how midwives promote the normal labourprocess. A non-participation observational study, of a total of four midwives in duty at a labour ward, was conducted at two hospitals. Grounded Theory was used for data collection and analysis. As a result emerged the core category to act as a pilot with four subcategories. The midwife primarily creates and anchors a relationship with the woman. Through the different stages of labour, the midwife assesses, facilitates and confirms the labourprocess individually, concerning the woman´s needs. The categories together form a model that describes what the midwife performs; in verbal and silent communication and in acting or refraining from acting, to promote a normal birth. There is a need for further research about what in the midwife´s management that promotes the normal birth. It is also essential with research at an organizational level since it has an impact on how the midwife promotes normal birth.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to get an idea of how the leaders in the real estate industry perceive and manage boundless working conditions. Questions that were answered were how the leaders in the service influence and control the employees' working conditions. Also how the communication strategies are designed to facilitate the work towards common goals, when tasks are not limited to the workplace. The study examine if boundless working conditions is characterized by unspoken expectations. Based on the current view, seven interviews were conducted with leaders from six organizations in the real estate brokerage. The results showed that the industry is controlled by few limits and that leaders use different strategies to maximize performance and wellbeing. It is a commission-based industry in which all work is according to individual performance where results are measured before the time spent at work. By explicit strategies of working and labor leaders are trying to reduce inequalities, and so they try to also reduce the scope of the psychological contract in certain aspects.

Stressorer i vårdmiljön och dess inverkan på sjuksköterskans omvårdnad2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Problem: The professions in health care are highly physically and especially mentally stressful jobs where time pressure and work rate continues to increase. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to illuminate stressors that may affect nursing outcomes. Method: The study was a literature review, 17 articles (3 qualitative and 14 quantitative) and a thesis which met the study's purpose was reviewed and analysed. Results and conclusion: Many factors and causes of ill health can today be found in the work environment and its increasingly greater demands on the individual. Each individual is unique and therefor affected differently by the same situations. The stressful experience and how each person handles the situation depends on all the factors in her/his whole life-world. It becomes clear that regardless of the situation, no one is doing well during long-term stress. The factors considered to contribute to the deterioration of quality of care includes lack of time, heavy workload, staff shortages, poor working conditions and reorganizations. These together and also separately, result in that nurses´ experiences of stress and dissatisfaction with their work, which may affect quality of patient care. Implication: Further research should focus on how nurses can influence the factors which leads to stress and a poor work environment and decrased quality of care.

Teaching, Testing and Assessment; an Interrelation of English as a Foreign Language - The Swedish National Test of English2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate the interrelation between teaching, testing and assessment of English as a foreign language in the Swedish school system. The focus is on the Swedish National test of English, and teaching and assessment of English in Swedish schools. A comparison with the Cambridge testing system is part of the study which has given rise to questions regarding the validity and reliability of the Swedish National test of English.

The study was carried out through qualitative questionnaires and interviews aimed at 5 English teachers working within the Swedish School system. The findings of the primary data suggest that the test is, with the exception of its marking procedures, regarded highly by the interviewees. The results of the interviews and questionnaires also suggest that the common factor between teaching, testing and assessment of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) in the Swedish school system appears to be the syllabus and, thus, indirectly, the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

Digitala verktyg i ämnet idrott och hälsa: Ur ett lärarperspektiv i årskurs 7-9.2019Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Title: The perfect candidate – the selection process in a global organization.

Authors: Kariin Adolfsson and Simon Leetsaar

In today's society, it becomes increasingly current with correct person on correct place in the

working life. What requires knowledge about how to recruit in a professional manner and

reliable ways. In many bigger organizations, there is today a human resources department that

only works with recruitment of new employees. The purpose with our research is to describe

personnel selection process in a big swedish organization, how they work throughout the

entire process. The study is based on three qualitative interviews and observations of two

focus group interviews. The qualitative interviews were held with the personnel manager,

deputy personnel manager and the recruiting manager. Moreover, a summary was formulated

of the documents that the organization had given us access to. The results from the interviews

and observations has then been analyzed compared to theoretical concepts chosen for the

study. The analysis of the result shows that the organisation follows a surely prepared

procedure in the personnel selection process that reflects the theoretical concepts chosen for

the study. Finally, suggestions is presented how the organisation can work furthermore in

order to improve their work with recruitment.

    Abstract [en]

This essay explores the living conditions of the main characters Kambili in Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Tambudzai in Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga and their struggle to achieve personal freedom. It aims to show that colonial stereotypes are challenged through the girl´s struggles.

It starts with a short exposé over post-colonial theory, here a methodological viewpoint, which is important to consider Kambili and Tambudzai from. It furthermore considers how their extensive family circumstances have impact on these two young protagonists, and finally examines how they employ formal and informal education as a tool to make changes in their lives and become inspirational young African women.

    Abstract [sv]

Gender Control: A Feminist Approach to the Lyrics of Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys2001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]
Music is produced and consumed by adolescents in ways that both strengthen their sense of self, and serve to construct the social world in which their identities operate. It is hard to determine how much of the sex role imagery contained in popular music is perceived by young people. However, there is a close connection between the performers, here Spears and BSB, and the message of their lyrics. Spears’ lyrics give animplicit message of a glorification of beauty and material things while BSB’s lyrics give the latent message of the importence of a world filled with stars, parties and drugs. Both artists perform lyrics with conventional, contrastive and mixed gender roles.

SimSpelGen: Ett grafiskt verktyg för konstruktion av radarscenarion2001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]
SimSpelGen is a graphical, platform independent tool generating radar scenarios. SimSpelGen was made for Ericsson Microwave Systems (EMW) in Mölndal, where an important system unit in the radar logic is the simulator. The simulator uses predefined static radar scenarios from which it extracts radar information. The scenarios are stored in files which contains information about the different objects, e.g. aircrafts, robots, sensors and clutters. EMW’s guidelines for projects, documenting and software engineering follows well known software development design patterns, which the thesis project was set to obey. Consequently the project was divided into four phases; requirements, design, implementation and test. Each phase has generated different documents such as an iteration plan, several requirement specifications, design specifications containing divers flow charts and class structural diagrams. The thesis project resulted in a well designed tool that met the requirements set by EMW except the ability to play the scenarios in real time.

Business Intelligence - ett underlag för strategiskt beslutsfattande2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Vibrationer och engesvängningar i Alfdex separator2019Independent thesis Basic level (university diploma), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to create a greater understanding of what happens inAlfdex’s separator in terms of natural frequencies, also called resonances. Try in asystematic way to find out where the problem is and produce a possible solutionto the problem. To achieve this smoothly, vibration measurements were made onthree different models with two variants, a total of six different variants. Themeasurements made with an electric shaker were set to run a sweep of 2-500Hz,which means that it increases the frequency from 20-500Hz with a constantacceleration of 2G. The measurement was first made on these six variants and, onthe basis of the results, it has been possible to compare with the modificationsmade. As the first modification, the disks in the separator were glued together to see ifthey made any difference from the previous result. As the next test spacers wereprinted out of the 3D-printer, that would replace the existing springs in theseparator, to aww what happens if we do not have any springs. There was also atest where the top of the separator the so-called house, was cut into a larger holeso as to see how the disks hold a constant amplitude relative to each other, whichmeans that the disks are not exposed to any natural frequencies. The springs werefilmed to see how they act and move, where it is clear that there are naturalfrequencies in the springs.Based on these tests, it can be concluded that the disk in question are not aproblem. The problem instead has its foundation in the springs that carry the diskstack throughout the separator, resonances in these give a great influence in theentire contents of the separator.

    Abstract [sv]
We have built hardware that retrieves data 763 times/sec from a testbox. Data is transferred five nibbles at a time. The lower five nibbles come first, and are stored in latches until the higher five nibbles arrive. The five entire bytes are then delivered to the PC. The transmission uses handshake between the testbox and the databuffer, and between the databuffer and the PC respectively to achieve sunchronisation. Software is made and consists of three parts : VERCOME Sampling, VERCOM Analys and VERCOM Tempbox. VERCOM Sampling retrieves the data from the hareware and saves it to a file on the hard disk. VERCOM Analys allows for analysis of the sampled data at a speed that is 50 times lower than when data was sampled in real time. VERCOM Tempbox controls a temperature box. This to see how the hardware responds to wxtreme cold and warm temperatures.

Förberedande arbete inför certifiering av livsmedelssäkerhet på Lantmännen AXA Foodservice, Laholm2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

People have the right to expect the food they eat to be safe and suitable for consumption. Food handlers therefore have a responsibility to assure that food is safe and appropriate for eating. The aim of this project was to prepare the company, Lantmännen AXA Foodservice, in Laholm, Sweden, for certification of Food Safety by the BRC Global Standard.

Flow charts for every line in the production of pancakes, meat products and wraps were made, 14 in total. A document of all the company’s raw material was made where the ingredients were divided into different categories.

The HACCP-plan, including risk analysis and control chart, is developed and upgraded to the production of today. A total of 17 risk analysis and control charts have been made for all the lines in production. One risk analysis for the ingredients in the wraps production has also been made. A traceability test was performed where a product made earlier this year was chosen and all its ingredients were traced and lab tests controlled.

The project has resulted in a good and applicable HACCP which meets the requirements of the BRC standard. The traceability test needs a few completions to fulfil the standard, but a very good beginning has been made.

    Abstract [en]

The intensified greenhouse effect is the biggest cause for a negative climate change. Global warming is a result of enhanced greenhouse effect and poses a potential threat for humans and its surrounding environment that can result in disastrous consequences. The rise in temperature is driven by increased human activity whereas the leading cause for emissions of greenhouse gases is the combustion of fossil fuels. The prominent source of emissions is from the following sectors: transport, industrial and energy. The task of reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases is both globally and internationally prioritized. Progress has been made although every potential source for emissions has to be investigated in order to reduce the total climate impact. Based on scientific research, wastewater treatment plants are also a contributing factor to the greenhouse effect by emissions of gases. This bachelor’s thesis is investigating two wastewater treatment plants and identifying which processes contribute to the climate impact. The climate impact is calculated with an Excel-based analyzing tool and the results show the Carbon Footprints for the treatment plants. The purpose of this paper is to present result acquired from the treatment plants and identify the processes that have the biggest impact on our climate. Afterwards, solutions derived from the analysis of results will be suggested to improve and bring additional help to the treatment plants with their climate work. In conclusion, it is determined that the treatment plants both have net emissions of greenhouse gases. The biggest contributor is the wastewater treatment and the use of biogas. Results from analysis show that some of the assumptions on emissions made in the tool make the initial results doubtful. Therefore, further research is needed on this subject in order to produce more reliable facts.

    Abstract [en]

Drive-thru-Internet is a scenario in cooperative intelligent transportation systems (C-ITSs), where a road-side unit (RSU) provides multimedia services to vehicles that pass by. Performance of the drive-thru-Internet depends on various factors, including data traffic intensity, vehicle traffic density, and radio-link quality within the coverage area of the RSU, and must be evaluated at the stage of system design in order to fulfill the quality-of-service requirements of the customers in C-ITS. In this paper, we present an analytical framework that models downlink traffic in a drive-thru-Internet scenario by means of a multidimensional Markov process: the packet arrivals in the RSU buffer constitute Poisson processes and the transmission times are exponentially distributed. Taking into account the state space explosion problem associated with multidimensional Markov processes, we use iterative perturbation techniques to calculate the stationary distribution of the Markov chain. Our numerical results reveal that the proposed approach yields accurate estimates of various performance metrics, such as the mean queue content and the mean packet delay for a wide range of workloads. © 2019 IEEE.

    Abstract [en]

We report on a tool prototype for model-based testing of cyber-physical systems. Our starting point is a hybrid-system model specified in a domain-specific language called Acumen. Our prototype tool is implemented in Matlab and covers three stages of model-based testing, namely, test-case generation, test-case execution, and conformance analysis. We have applied our implementation to a number of typical examples of cyber-physical systems in order to analyze its applicability. In this paper, we report on the result of applying the prototype tool on a DC-DC boost converter. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015

    Abstract [en]

Cyber-physical systems (CPSs) are the result of the integration of connected computer systems with the physical world. They feature complex interactions that go beyond traditional communication schemes and protocols in computer systems. One distinguished feature of such complex interactions is the tight coupling between discrete and continuous interactions, captured by hybrid system models.

Due to the complexity of CPSs, providing rigorous and model-based analysis methods and tools for verifying correctness of such systems is of the utmost importance. Model-based testing (MBT) is one such verification technique that can be used for checking the conformance of an implementation of a system to its specification (model).

In this chapter, we first review the main concepts and techniques in MBT. Subsequently, we review the most common modeling formalisms for CPSs, with focus on hybrid system models. Subsequently, we provide a brief overview of conformance relations and conformance testing techniques for CPSs. © 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Revisorer i Sverige och Danmark - En studie kring svenska respektive danska revisorers syn på IAS 36, IAS 38 och IFRS 32008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The effect of Norflurazon on photosynthetic activity in isolated thylakoids from wheat (Triticum aestivum L: )2006Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

This investigation has been performed on Norflurazon (NF) treated young wheat plants with

emphasis on their capacity to perform light-driven photosynthesis, as an effect of carotenoid

deficiency. The wheat seeds were soaked for approximately 17 hour in tap water or in water containing NF (28mg l-1 ca 10-4 M). Seedlings were grown for 7 days in a greenhouse (50 μmol m-2 s-1) or in weak light (ca 0.1 μmol m-2 s-1) in order to avoid photodestruction, before chloroplast and thylakoid isolation. NF-treatment and the low light condition also affected chlorophyll content. Isolated chloroplasts from NF-grown plants contained approximately 55 and 16 % of the chlorophyll content as compared to untreated plants grown in weak light or in greenhouse light, respectively.

In addition, protein separation by polyacryl amide electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) on isolated thylakoids showed that the apoproteins of the LHC II (i.e. LHCP) were undetectable after NF-treatment. Despite a large number of attempts to measure PS II activity in isolated thylakoids, this was proven to give unreliable data and these were therefore excluded from this report.

The photosynthetic assays were therefore focused on PS I activity, which were compared between plants grown in greenhouse (untreated) or in weak light, with or without NF. As expected, PSI activity is greatly affected by light intensity, during growth as well as during the photosynhtetic assays. In untreated wheat, grown in the greenhouse, the highest activity was found at the strongest light intensity used at distance of 0.25 m from the light source (corresponding to approximately 1440µmol m-2s-1). The PS I activity then declines with decreasing intensity. A similar, albeit not so clear (lower maximum activity at strong light intensities), trend is observed in untreated wheat grown in weak light.

Thylakoids isolated from NF-treated plants show a clear photoinhibition at strong light but a clear increase in activity at subsequently lower light intensities.

Reliable Real-Time Communication for Future ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) using HWA (Heterogeneous Wireless Access)2011Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 30 credits / 45 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this research oriented master’s thesis we have proposed a future vision of ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) by utilizing the novel concept of HWA (Heterogeneous Wireless Access). Our proposal is backed by the investigation of the results of experiments conducted at CERES (Centre for Research on Embedded Systems), Halmstad University, Sweden to evaluate the quality of communication for V2V and V2I by using the IEEE 802.11p standard. We have also identified the expected scenarios with need of any other communication technology in replacement of IEEE 802.11p for V2V and V2I communication. We have also investigated the relevant research projects, experiments and their results on the basis of predefined constraints. In the investigated research projects the concept of HWA has been correlated with our proposal of HWA for ITS. We have identified that for smooth integration of any communication technology with IEEE 802.11p, an efficient and smart vertical handover protocol or method will be required. We have presented a blue print of a custom designed vertical handover technique which can be implemented for future ITS with further enhancements and experimental evaluations. We have also evaluated the worst case scenarios to assess the suitability of the HWA for the ITS. We proposed few solutions based on the evaluation of communication scenarios for the integration of IEEE 802.11p with other wireless communication technologies. Finally we have provided some conclusions and suggested future researches which must be conducted to realize the dream of ITS with support of HWA.

Egyptian women's attitudes and beliefs about female genital cutting and its association with childhood maltreatment2007In: Nursing and Health Sciences, ISSN 1441-0745, E-ISSN 1442-2018, Vol. 9, no 4, p. 270-276Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This study aimed to establish Egyptian women's attitudes and beliefs about female genital cutting (FGC) or mutilation by applying a questionnaire module about violence to a subsample of 5249 married women from a total of 19 474 women who participated in the 2005 Egypt Demographic Health Survey. Women were interviewed to determine if they had been exposed to marital violence in the year prior to the survey, their attitudes and beliefs about FGC, and if they physically abused their children. The association of beliefs about FGC with maternal physical abuse was examined, adjusting for exposure to marital violence and other socio-demographic variables. Of the women surveyed 16.4% and 3.4% had been exposed to physical and sexual violence, respectively, during the year prior to the survey. Around 76% of the women surveyed intended to continue the FGC practice, and 69.8% had slapped or hit their children during the year prior to the survey. Holding positive beliefs about the practice of FGC or intending to continue it was associated with maternal physical abuse and this has significant implications for health and welfare workers in Egypt and for society in general.

Predicting institutional long-term care admission in dementia: a mixed-methods study of informal caregivers’ reports2015In: Journal of Advanced Nursing, ISSN 0309-2402, E-ISSN 1365-2648, Vol. 71, no 6, p. 1351-1362Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Aim: To investigate agreement between: (1) expected reasons and actual reasons for admission of people with dementia according to informal caregivers; (2) scores on measurement instruments prior to admission and the actual reasons for admission according to informal caregivers.

Background: Timely admission of people with dementia is a crucial issue. Information is highly warranted on whether informal caregivers are capable of prior identification of causes of admission and, can thus be considered a reliable prospective source on causes of admission.

Design: A cohort study among informal caregivers of people with dementia who made a transition to institutional long-term care.

Methods: Qualitative data on the expected and actual reasons for admission were collected via open-ended questions at baseline and follow-up. Furthermore, at baseline, data were collected using measurement instruments to measure pre-admission characteristics. Interviews took place between November 2010-April 2012. After categorizing the answers, the agreement between the expected and actual reasons was calculated. Furthermore, bivariate associations were calculated between the actual reasons for admission and scores on corresponding measurement instruments.

Results/Findings: For most informal caregivers, there was agreement between their statements on the expected reason and the actual reason for admission. A third of the caregivers showed no conformity. Bivariate associations showed that there is also agreement between the actual reasons for admission and scores on corresponding measurement instruments.

Conclusion: Informal caregivers can be considered reliable sources of information regarding what causes the admission of a person with dementia. Professional care should anticipate informal caregivers' statements and collaborate with them to strive for timely and appropriate admission. © 2014 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
