    Detta examensarbete har utförts tillsammans med företaget Turon MedTech AB. Arbetets syfte är att göra en omkonstruktion av rörelsemekanismen till företagets instrument ”Cytoguide” som används inom bröstbiopsi. Detta då företaget anser den nuvarande lösningen är i behov av förändring då den inte uppdaterats på 20 år. Cytoguide ger ifrån sig en ljudnivå som anses vara för hög, denna ljudnivå vill företaget minimera. Företaget vill även implementera standardkomponenter i instrumentet. Målet är att ta fram en prototyp som uppfyller kraven och som ger en sänkt ljudnivå i drift.Den metod som till största del har använts är Freddy Olssons metoder Principkonstruktion och Primärkonstruktion som är metoder som används vid utvecklings- och konstruktionsprojekt.Ett principkoncept togs fram under principkonstruktionsetappen med hjälp av skisser och CAD-modeller för att därefter under primärkonstruktionen konstrueras i detalj för att sedan framställas som en prototyp för tester och utvärdering. Konstruktionen har testats om den uppfyller kraven och hur högt ljud den ger ifrån sig. Resultatet visar att ljudnivån har sänkts med 40% i jämförelse med den befintliga rörelsemekanismen.

    I den här rapporten går vi igenom processen som vi har använt oss av för att ta fram en konceptmodell för ett nytt magasin åt InLead då de planerar att expandera sitt sortiment för att nå en bredare kundkrets. För tillfället har InLead ett magasin för kutsar och det magasinet vi har fått i projekt att ta fram är ett stångmagasin.

    I samarbete med vår handledare på InLead har vi gått igenom vad de vill ha i form av  funktioner och utseénde. Under projektet använde vi det arbetssätt som är baserat på Freddy Olssons metod, princip och primärkonstruktion (1995), som vi använt oss av i tidigare kurser. Under projektets gång så var vi även på besök i InLeads lokal där vi fick se deras nuvarande magasin samt roboten som de kommer använda sig av för att få en bättre inblick i vad projektet ska bli i sitt slutliga stadie. Vi har lagt ner mycket tid på att få fram de resultat som gav den enklaste lösningen för montering och programmering av roboten. Vi kommer att sätta upp ett poängsystem som baseras på våra krav och önskemmål, där väger vi våra produktförslag och väljer det som passar bäst, vi kommer även göra en POME-Matris.

    Produkten är uppritad i catia v5 där vi baserade våra idéer på .STEP filer försedda av företaget. Vi använde oss primärt av Part Design och Assembly design då de arbetsbänkarna som används passade vårt projekt bäst. Vi har även använt oss av Catia Photo Studio, Keyshot för att ta fram renderade bilder och animationer av det slutliga resultatet.

    Abstract [en]

    To invent an optimized product is a complicated process. This process is only half of the work. It is equally important to develop a production system that can produce the product in an  efficient and ergonomic way.

    After several evaluations of conceptual and detailed drawings a final idea has come to light.The idea intends, to the maximum extent, utilize the facility in a more efficient way through moving assembly lines and stations closer to the flock section and the stock for complete products. To make the production better, stations are placed in more logical places given the assignment they are supposed to accomplish. This improves the material flow radically. An important aspect of the improvement is that the three assembly lines no longer will be dependent of each other because they will have all the stations they need.

    The final drawing uses the facility more efficiently. This opens up a big area close to the steam section. This area can be used to increase the productivity for the section. At present time the steam section have a capacity of around 9,000 units annually.

    A measuring technique and method are provided to simultaneously determine the molecular density of several molecular species and the temperature within a closed process room in a melting or combustion process. In such processes in the industry, e.g. in metallurgic process industry, it is important to determine the temperature and the contents within the gas or flame without physically connect to or disturb the process. This has shown to raise large problems especially at high temperatures. The radio signal over a frequency band is measured on the outside of the process room through a window in the mantel covering as a function of frequency and registered on a computer as a radio spectrum. The system is calibrated by using a known signal transmitted through the process room. The spectral lines are identified by their frequency from a database. The temperature is determined from several lines of the same molecular specie and the molecular densities are determined from the intensities of the lines. The method is suitable to determine vibrational and rotational excitation of molecular species in the radio wavelength range of 30 micrometers to 500 meters. The densities of molecular species and the temperature can be imaged in three dimensions inside the process room or exhaust channel if interferometers are used for simultaneous two dimensional imaging from several azimuth directions.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents observations of audio noise in frequency range 20e20 000 Hz from wind turbines. The observations were performed around the theoretically calculated 40 dBA noise perimeter around the wind turbine farm at Oxhult, Sweden. This paper describes a newly designed and constructed a field qualified data acquisition system to measure spectra and total noise level of sound from wind turbines. The system has been calibrated at SP Borås. It is shown that it has a flat frequency response and is linear with amplitude and time.

    The total noise level (as integrated 20e20 000 Hz) is shown to be below 35 dBA (below the reference background noise at 36 dBA) at a 10 m altitude wind speed of 4e5 m/s. The measurements were made along the theoretical 40 dBA border at 8 m/s.

    It is concluded that the theoretical 40 dBA border seems reasonable calculated if the manufacturer specifications are used to extrapolate the sound level to correspond to 8 m/s at 10 m. Our data indicate that a simple sound propagation model is sufficient since the sound level is more affected by the nearby environment than the large scale forest structure. Also, the large scale forestry structure is bound to change with time and the error bars of measurements on total sound level are about 1 dBA, which is larger than any fine tuning with a more sophisticated model. More care should be taken to model the reflections from walls and other obstacles close to the microphones.

    The distribution of the spectral noise level around the turbine farm suggests that the noise originates from individual wind turbines closest to the measurement location rather than from the wind turbine farm as a whole. The spectra show narrow band spectral line features which do not contribute signifi-cantly to the total noise at this level. The narrow band features are only detectable at very long inte-gration time and at 1 Hz spectral resolution. The spectral features are typical to originate from mechanical noise.

    The spectral acquisition method described in this paper can be used as a field qualified system for sound measurements in forest areas. The high spectral resolution is a viable remote diagnostic method for mechanical faults in the turbine machinery. Future work will concentrate on these two areas.

    PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system using transmission of an electromagnetic signal in order to determine the positions of reflection points by detecting the signals reflected at the reflection points in space. ; SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method, antenna, and system for defining the positions of the reflection points using microwave. The electromagnetic signal is generated at a determined frequency, and is transmitted by an antenna unit. The antenna unit comprises a transmitting antenna, and many receiving antennas that are separated at a known interval in the direction perpendicular to the main visual axis and are designed to receive a part of the reflected wave of the transmitted wave.     A method, an antenna, and a system for determining positions for reflection points using microwaves. An electromagnetic wave signal is generated at a defined frequency, and transmitted by an antenna unit the antenna unit includes a transmitter antenna and a plurality of receiver antennas, separated by a known spacing perpendicular to a main line of sight and devised to receive reflected portions of the transmitted wave. Phase comparator means are connected to the transmitter antenna and the receiver antennas, and a control unit connected to the phase comparator means is operable to calculate an angle to a reflection point from detected phase difference between at least two receiver antennas and the spacing between said at least two receiver antennas, and to calculate a distance to the reflection point from detected phase difference between the transmitter antenna and a receiver antenna dependent on the frequency.

New instruments have to be accurate; robust to be used on the industry floor; non-invasive; automatic; and sufficiently fast to be used in real time as well as to simultaneously measure over a large area. The industrial applications are plenty:

    • On-line quality control of machined parts,
    • Direct feed back to the manufacturing process,
    • Analysis and selection of surface texture/structure.

    This paper presents new developments in interferometer techniques for new robust area-based topographic instruments.

    Future cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) applications aimed to improve safety, efficiency and comfort on our roads put high demands on the underlying wireless communication system. To gain better understanding of the limitations of the 5.9 GHz frequency band and the set of communication protocols for medium range vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication, a set of field trials with CALM M5 enabled prototypes has been conducted. This paper describes five different real vehicle traffic scenarios covering both urban and rural settings at varying vehicle speeds and under varying line-of-sight (LOS) conditions and discusses the connectivity (measured as Packet Reception Ratio) that could be achieved between the two test vehicles. Our measurements indicate a quite problematic LOS sensitivity that strongly influences the performance of V2V-based applications. We further discuss how the awareness of these context-based connectivity problems can be used to improve the design of possible future cooperative ITS safety applications.

This work includes the development of a progress bar for dishwashers.The execution of the thesis has involved a list of criteria with conditions and requirements, which after where weighted in a matrix. Subsequently, the product proposal was developed and has been divided into three categories, twist mechanisms, attachments and exterior design. Finally, suggestions have been designed in CATIA V5 and prototypes were produced using 3d-printing

    Abstract [en]

    The manufacturing and finishing (honing) of cylinder liners for the automotive industry is a constant challenge in order to reduce friction losses and oil consumption. A better knowledge of surfaces generated during plateau honing is then required for optimization of the process. Despite a well-known and controlled honing process, variations in surface roughness appear at both global (due to honing tool wear) and local (TDC, middle stroke, BDC) scales and need to be mapped and analysed. The following paper proposes to map the global and local variations in roughness by using a confocal 3D measuring equipment able to measure and scan any area of a cylinder liner. Six motor blocks (five liners each) are evaluated with twenty topography measurements per liner. In total, six hundred 3D measurements of size 1×1 mm are performed and roughness parameters are computed. The results show that some parameters do correlate with the honing tool wear specific to each cylinder. Experimental models could be built. Furthermore surface roughness varies significantly over the axial length of the liners due to waviness deviations combined with a lack of flexibility of the honing tool in axial direction. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

    The automotive industry and the design of engines are strongly ruled by performance and legislation demands. In the valve train, besides the main function (transformation of rotation to translation movements) to fulfill, new requirements in environmental demands and performance in terms of wear are leading to more and more detailed studies of the cams and rollers. Wear reduction studies for prolonging lifetime of these components require decreasing the scale of observation down to roughness. Among the different wear stages of a component, the running-in is a crucial period which will greatly influence the lifetime and performance of components. The aim of this paper is to analyze the topography variations observed during the running-in of a camshaft on a valve train rig test. A truck engine's camshaft is run under realistic conditions and 3D surfaces are measured before and after the test by using relocation techniques. By measuring the very same surfaces before and after the experiment, a deep analysis of the running-in effects on surfaces can be performed. 3D surface roughness parameters are used in parallel with new proposed methods of analysis. As a result, the mechanisms involved during running-in are emphasized and can be used for further simulations and optimization of the cam roller contact. (C) 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

    The manufacturing and finishing (honing) of cylinder liners for the automotive industry is a constant challenge in order to reduce friction losses and oil consumption. A better knowledge of surfaces generated during plateau honing is then required for optimization of the process. Despite a well-known and controlled honing process, variations in surface roughness appear due to honing tool wear and need to be mapped and analyzed. The following paper proposes to map the variations in roughness by using confocal 3D measuring equipment able to inspect any area of a cylinder liner. Six motor blocks, each with five cylinder liners, were evaluated with 20 topography measurements per liner (giving six hundred 3D measurements in total). In addition to standard 3D roughness parameters, tailor made parameters extracting honing texture information are computed. The results show that only a few parameters (Spk, Ssc and Sk) do correlate with the honing tool wear specific to each cylinder. Tailor made parameters indicate similar results. Indeed, as the honing tool wears down, the cylinder liner surface gets rougher plateau or peaks and sharper asperities indicating that ploughing occurs instead of cutting. In future, experimental models could be built in order to perform production and functional optimizations. © 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

    Abstract [en]

    Topographies are one of the challenges for the development of the metal additive manufacturing promising technique. The article investigates multi scale topographies (from form to roughness) of as built surfaces generated by selective laser melting (SLM). Different building inclinations of samples were observed both for upskin and downskin surfaces with a wide range of measuring techniques. The two main aims are: (i) to make a critical review of measuring techniques at different scales, (ii) to enlighten the different surface generation phenomena (and the corresponding scale) occurring during additive manufacturing. The effect of heat treatment on each scale of the topography is also discussed. It is found that the focus variation technique is well suited for AM surfaces. Concerning the observation of the inclined surfaces, some parameters are emphasized as good indicators of typical signatures of AM surfaces: isotropy for the weld track component, the skewness and Rsm for the staircase effect, fractal dimension for the presence of partly melted particles. The different parameters studied helps to model and understand the different surface generation phenomena aforementioned. © 2018 Elsevier Inc.

    The possibility to reduce the amount of cutting fluids from machining processes is actively studied by the industrials and researchers. Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) is a solution towards cutting fluids reduction. This article investigates the consequences on friction coefficient induced by the use of MQL. A tribometer is used in order to simulate experimentally the tribological conditions encountered during machining. As the cutting speed increases a lower amount of oil is deposited on the rough surfaces. Depending on the MQL operating conditions and sliding velocities it is plausible to reach starvation by leaving the real rough contact partly dry. A model computing a starvation percentage by filling an estimated oil amount in a deformed topography correlates with the experimental results. © 2015 by ASME

    Touch står för Tactile Oscillating Universal Caressing Hand och är en idé om att skapa enp rodukt som hjälper människor som lider av eksem, stress eller andra psykiska åkommor. Genom att ge huden taktil massage genom en klappningsrörelse ska Touch ge avslappning till användaren. Det ska finnas flera olika utbytbara munstycken som ger hårdare eller mjukare massage.

    Rapporten redovisar ett förslag på hur Touch kan utformas för att uppnå dess syfte. Deninnehåller 3D-modeller och ritningar av konstruktionen samt dess individuella delar. Rapporten avhandlar också vilka krav som ställts på Touch och hur arbetet genomförts.

    Projektet har avgränsats till att endast göra ett förslag på hur Touch kan konstrueras för attuppfylla kraven och detta har gjorts med hjälp av 3D-modeller och ritningar. Det har heller inte tagits någon hänsyn till den elektroniska delen som krävs för att produkten i slutändan ska fungera.

    Fuel used by heavy duty trucks is a major cost for logistics companies, and therefore improvements in this area are highly desired. Many of the factors that influence fuel consumption, such as the road type, vehicle configuration or external environment, are difficult to influence. One of the most under-explored ways to lower the costs is training and incentivizing drivers. However, today it is difficult to measure driver performance in a comprehensive way outside of controlled, experimental setting.

    This paper proposes a machine learning methodology for quantifying and qualifying driver performance, with respect to fuel consumption, that is suitable for naturalistic driving situations. The approach is a knowledge-based feature extraction technique, constructing a normalizing fuel consumption value denoted Fuel under Predefined Conditions (FPC), which captures the effect of factors that are relevant but are not measured directly.

    The FPC, together with information available from truck sensors, is then compared against the actual fuel used on a given road segment, quantifying the effects associated with driver behavior or other variables of interest. We show that raw fuel consumption is a biased measure of driver performance, being heavily influenced by other factors such as high load or adversary weather conditions, and that using FPC leads to more accurate results. In this paper we also show evaluation the proposed method using large-scale, real-world, naturalistic database of heavy-duty vehicle operation.

    Abstract [en]

    The following project is a collaboration with HRI Teknik and Robomatic AB, that found a possible market for improving cleanliness in grocery stores by improving the hygiene of costumer baskets. Bacteria and left over items in the basket builds up a health risk for the costumers, if not properly cleaned regularly. The dirt and bacteria from the basket is broth home thru the groceries coming in contact during shopping. The need has been strengthened by surveys for the two store managers and the customers of the grocery store.

    To reduce the spreads of diseases, the baskets should be cleaned better and more frequently by having the proper detergent and cleaning system. The aim of the study is to develop a concept of a cleaning machine for baskets used in grocery stores. This is done by a well- defined technical driven development process, considering all six steps.

    The supportive research concerning framework has laid as a foundation for the construction of the cleaning machine. Research proves that framework creates a robust and safe construction, absorbing tensile and compressive forces in the longitudinal direction.

    The outcome from the technical driven process and the theoretical study is a visual, three dimensional model of concept. The concepts main function is to be driven by a belt with hooks, which is hanging on the machine. The baskets are then hanged on the movable belt in order to get cleaned. During the project, resources as material, working place and expertise is provided to sufficient degree so a concept can be developed.

    Since the project has a limited period of time, it was recognized the project would not be able to get to the production stages. The concept and function need to be tested and investigated to solve the remaining details. This is left for further development beyond the project, and is laying at HRI Teknik and Robomatic AB.

    Our project consists of two parts (A and B). In part A we solve a linear elasticity problem with implementing a rotated  approximation method and simulating the problem in commercial softwares (COMSOL and SolidWorks). To evaluate the results we implement an analytical eigenvalue solver. As a simple case, we use a cube with side length of L = 1m made of Alloy steel with density of 7850 Kg/m^3.  In part B we implement a time dependent linear elasticity problem on a beam made of Alloy steel with density of 7850 Kg/m^3 with size of 1x0.1x0.01m. We use the implicit method to solve our problem. The frequency results in part A show that the rotated Q1 approximation method works more accurate than the commercial software.

    Products with complicated shapes require superior surface finish to perform the intended function. Despite significant developments in technology, finishing operations are still performed semi automatically/manually, relying on the skills of the machinist. The pressure to produce products at the best quality in the shortest lead time has made it highly inconvenient to depend on traditional methods. Thus, there is a rising need for automation which has become a resource to remain competitive in the manufacturing industry.

    Diminishing return of trading quality over time in finishing operations signifies the importance of having a pre-determined trajectory (tool path) that produces an optimum surface in the least possible machining time. Tool path optimization for finishing process considering tool kinematics is of relatively low importance in the present scenario. The available automation in grinding processes encompass around the dynamics of machining.

    In this paper we provide an overview of optimizing the tool path using evolutionary algorithms, considering the significance of process dynamics and kinematics. Process efficiency of the generated tool movements are studied based on the evaluation of relative importance of the finishing parameters. Surface quality is analysed using MATLAB and optimization is performed on account of peak to valley height.

    Surface removal characteristics are analysed based on process variables that have the most likely impact on surface finish. The research results indicated that tool path is the most significant parameter determining the surface quality of a finishing operation. The inter-dependency of parameters were also studied using Taguchi design of experiments. Possible combinations of various tool paths and tool influencing parameters are presented to realize a surface that exhibits lowest errors.

    Abstract:

    This thesis work was a part of Halmstad University’s Mechanical Masterprogramme curriculum done in favour of ABB Alingsås. Our industrial partnerproduces and manufactures low voltage electrical distribution cabinets, connectorsand switch gears. This project is focused on specific electrical connector used inABB’s trademark cabinets.

    These electrical connectors serve as both the input and output points for thedistribution cabinets. The product under scope is an extension connector calledADI3M which is used in conjunction with the large sized cable connectors(AD300). This is a sequential design optimization activity performed after theredesigning of the AD300 to ensure interface compatibility and also aimed atopportunistic cost reduction. The ADI3M should provide design compatibility withboth old and new AD300 connector designs along with the comfortable interfacinginside the CDC and SDC cabinets.

    With the design process and concepting knowledge gained from the course work inHalmstad university along with the ABB’s industrial exposure towards the powersupply networks we proposed four different design concepts. These design conceptswere then evaluated against interface compatibility, cost aspects, manufacturingreadiness, mechanical strength, heat generation and electricity conductionproperties. Among the product development techniques, we applied QFD processto generate the concepts, waterfall method to frame the engineering design processflow and morphological matrix to select the generated concepts. We then changedthe raw material from brass to aluminium and extrusion process due to its beneficialproperties compared to brass and copper with various other reasons explainedclearly in the thesis content. For the plastic cover we preferred poly-carbonate dueto requirements such as transparency, stiffness, etc. Two of the best feasibleconcepts were selected and the design proposals were prototyped using 3D printingtechnology. The 3D printing method used was fused deposition modelling (FDM).Later machined aluminium prototypes were then produced for the metalsubcomponents to do real time strength analysis and interface checks. Weperformed a theoretical product strength analysis using ANSYS19.2. Then resultswere then evaluated, and the final concept was chosen according to the factors suchas cost impact, easy installation and comfortable inter-component clearance.Finally, the prototypes were tested for IP rating fulfilment and compatible interfaceswith adjacent components.

    The consecutive activities to be done out of thesis scope is to conduct mechanicaland tests and record the performance. The future scope of this project is to developa hybrid design combining the AD300 and ADI3M connectors which would enableeasy product handling, simplified functionality and further reduce cost.

    Projektmedlemmarna har valt att samarbeta med uppdragsgivarna David Almgren och Hussam Alshammari. För att båda två är ambitiösa och drivna studenter från högskolan i Halmstad med ett intressant projekt inom produktutveckling och vill vidarutveckla 3D-modellen som författarna har tagit fram åt uppdragsgivarna. Uppgiften har varit att ta fram en ny design för kapsel och armband till Smartband Alert som består av kretskomponenter som uppdragsgivarna har programmerat och utvecklat.

     

    Examensarbetet baseras på Fredy Olssons metod för principkonstruktion, primärkonstruktion och tillverkningskonstruktion. Metoden används när en ny produkt ska utvecklas men också när det ska utföras en utveckling/förbättring av en produkt. Författarna följer inte Fredy Olssons metod från början till slut utan har valt det innehåll som är relevant för projektet.

     

    I projektet har författarna tagit fram 3D-modeller i CAD-programmet; CATIA V5-6R2016 som hjälpmedel för att kunna ta fram en slutlig 3D-modell som passar  existerande komponentdelar, som uppdragsgivarna har tilldelat till författarna. För att eventuellt kunna tillverka produkten, har författarna tagit fram CAD-ritningar. Slutligen har en modell tillverkats av en 3D-skrivare till uppdragsgivarna, för att kunna se och testa modellen i verkligheten.

    The European Parliament Buildings Directive (EPBD) obliges Sweden to develop plans to

    enhance the amount of NZEB. Define what NZEB for them exactly constitutes - technical

    definitions and system boundaries for energy performance calculations. The National Board

    of Housing, Building and Planning in Sweden has received an assignment from the Swedish

    government to propose the definition and quantitative approach on energy requirements for

    NZEB. NBHBP suggest the system boundary should be the delivered (bought) energy. The

    delivered energy divide into two different energy form. The set system boundary to calculate

    the specific energy performance with the introduced weighted factor. Makes it possible to

    compensate the specific energy performance by using renewable energy generators on site.

    The risk is inefficient buildings can use renewable energy technologies on site to compensate

    the delivered energy to achieve the 80 kWh/m2, year (the proposed energy requirements for

    NZEB). This results to high energy cost along with large investments in renewable

    technologies on site, or the need to add fossil fuels to make up the high-energy demand. The

    both reference houses Circuitus and Bright Living are NZEB, per the Swedish definition

    proposal of NZEB from NBHBP. The most significant difference is Circuitus has better heat

    exchanger and building envelope than Bright Living.

    Abstract [en]

    Information sharing is an important factor for effectiveness within the internal supply chain. In this paper we use a methodology for mapping information flows in an internal supply chain, and case studies in two Swedish multinational organizations. Eight retrospective cases were used to map, describe and analyze the information flow that supports the physical material flow from the receipt of an order to point of delivery. Every involved person was interviewed on at least one occasion each. The interviews were conducted to map and describe the information and physical material flow. The aim was to identify factors that could improve and rationalise information flows and generate a better flow within the organization.

    The study shows the importance of an integrated information system, but also clearly indicates the importance of a collaborative culture and an awareness of the human-technology interface. The study also shows that three factors of interface distortions are most frequent in the cases: (1) changes registered in the database trigger no action among the staff, (2) new knowledge to staff is stored only orally and not in the database, and (3) interface between the paper system and the database, and between the old and the new information storage culture.
