The bodies of others in Swedish feminism2018In: Gender, Place and Culture: A Journal of Feminist Geography, ISSN 0966-369X, E-ISSN 1360-0524, Vol. 25, no 7, p. 978-993Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The body – or, more specifically, women’s bodies – has long been one of feminism’s central topics. This discussion has ranged from explorations of the cultural meaning of biology to the challenging of classification systems regulating bodies not only culturally coded as female or male but also understood through race regimes. This article seeks to explore the location of bodies within Swedish feminism, examining how women’s bodies are understood, designated and acted upon in feminist agendas. Our focus is on the location that bodies take in political conflicts among and between feminists. In particular, we explore the impact of the presence of black bodies within the field of Swedish feminism. On a theoretical level, this article bridges decolonial feminist contributions of Black, Chicano and Latin American feminist thought on the body. The research methodology combined autoethnography with feminist ethnography, including an analysis of 25 narratives of young feminist activists engaged in public resistance against, and confrontation with, the growing presence of right-wing xenophobic social movements and political parties in the public sphere. © 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group

VEM HÖR TILL?: Eller inte?2012Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Over the past two decades, trends of integration processes in terms of citizens of different ethnicities, different gender and different sexual belongings, etc. has grown thanks to debates and new legislations. A marginalized and discriminated group in society such as women, immigrants, homosexuals, transsexuals and people with disabilities during this time has gained momentum in the community. The curiosity over whether these developments have changed our attitudes and values to the world around us, and if so how, is the reason for this master's thesis in disability studies.

The Swedish development forms the basis for my belief on a younger generation of people who would be more tolerant than previous generations, in terms of what is considered to belong to the norm in our society, or not. The purpose of this study is therefore to increase knowledge about what beliefs young people today have about people with disabilities. The questions that the study is based on are: What does young people characterizes as a normal  or an abnormal human being? What thoughts do young people have about the people who deviate from the norm? What beliefs do they have regarding people with disabilities?

To achieve the objective, the choice has fallen on a qualitative approach. Empirical data were collected through a focus group of four 18-year-olds, where they based on specific themes, have associated and discussed freely. For the processing and interpretation of the data collection, Moscovici (1984) theory of social representations has been used. By interpreting the focus groups discussions, the result shows that people with disabilities still are highly regarded and treated as people who should be "corrected" by the individual / medical model.

Retain: Vad motiverar chefer i en kunskapsintensiv bransch att stanna inom sin aktuella organisation2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this work is to identify how the organization works to improve

accessibility for its employees who have a disability, as well as any obstacles the

organization may encounter in the improvement of accessibility within their

organization. This work is a qualitative study where seven different individuals within

the organization were interviewed. Some of those interviewed are in managerial

positions who manage work accessibility issues, and some of the employees had

disabilities. The results showed that accessibility is very good within the organization.

However, there are areas within the building where improvments are needed, for

example, not all areas are accessible for those with a disability. The heads of the

organization are working to update themselves regarding accessibility through

information meetings, magazines and email, but above all by their own responsibility.

However, we noted that communication between managers and employees are

sometimes not sufficient enough to improve accessibility in the workplace. Employee

participation could also improve, for example, faster results could be achieved if

employees ‘spoke out’ more reguarlarly in regards to accessibility issues.

Veterinärers arbete: En studie om etik, ansvar och känslor2011Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the modern society family pets are more and more considered as members of the family with valid feelings. This has resulted in higher demands on the veterinary occupation. The vet is expected to look upon their animal patients from the owners’ point of view. The purpose of this thesis is to increase the knowledge of the work situation for Swedish veterinarians and the problems they encounter in the triad relation, veterinarian – animal – owner. The authors have used a qualitative method and hermeneutic approach to achieve this knowledge. The reason for choosing the subject of emotional labour within the veterinary trade was that there weren’t too many Nordic articles about it. The result shows that Swedish veterinarians don’t get any guidance or education in the emotional labour that is required in the social interaction with pet owners. Seven semi structured deep interviews have been conducted with veterinarians from animal hospitals and private practitioners. The authors have come to the conclusion that the working conditions for Swedish veterinarians are complicated as each consultation involves emotional labour as well as a medical labour. Apart from that they have to compromise with Swedish animal law and their own ethical conviction.

“Making it work in the frontline” explains female home care workers' defining, recognizing, communicating and reporting of occupational disorders2008In: International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, ISSN 1748-2623, E-ISSN 1748-2631, E-ISSN 1748-2623, Vol. 3, no 3, p. 176-184Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Epidemiological research has so far failed to explain the high incidence of occupational disorders among home care workers (HCWs) and the great differences in organizational incidence rate. A qualitative approach may contribute to a deeper understanding of work group reasoning and handling in a more contextual manner. The aim of this grounded theory study was to gain a deeper understanding of the main concern in the processes of recognizing, communicating and reporting occupational disorders among HCWs. Focus group interviews were conducted with 40 HCWs in 9 focus groups. The selected municipalities represented variations in municipality type and incidence rate of occupational disorders. Making it work in the frontline was identified as the core category explaining that the perceived work situation in home care work was the main concern but interacted with work-group socialising processes as well as with the communicability and derivability of the occupational disorder when defining and reporting occupational disorders. Complex problems could be reformulated and agreed within the workgroup to increase communicability. Described significances for reporting/non-reporting were related to financial compensation, to a part of organizational political game or to an existential uncertainty, i.e. questioning if it belonged to their chosen work and life. Our conclusion is that working situation and work group attitudes have importance for reporting of occupational disorders. To support work-related health for HCWs, integrating communication should be developed about work-related challenges in work situation, as well as about attitudes, culture and efficiency within work-group.

Genusanalys av två kvinnliga karaktärer i fantasyserien Game of Thrones: "Fantasy is hardly an escape from reality. It's a way of understanding it." (Lloyd Alexander)2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Denna uppsats analyserar hur genus gestaltas i fantasyserien Game of Thrones.

En kvantitativ studie av säkerhetsklimatet i byggbranschen2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

En kvantitativ studie av säkerhetsklimatet i byggbranschen

Författare: Caroline Dysenius & Linnéa Persson Högskolan i Halmstad, VT 2016

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to examine how the Swedish public sector, exemplified by a Swedish municipality, evaluates its managers. With the support of scientific research it proposes possible solutions to improve the evaluation of managers across the public sector. The municipality is located in western Sweden. Senior management has contributed to this thesis by providing access to senior managers across different divisions within the municipality. The study has been performed by conducting personal interviews with eight senior managers. The interviews were structured and all of the managers were asked a series of nine standardised questions. Using their initial responses they were then asked a series of individual questions based upon their answers to the nine standardised questions. The results of the study shows that whilst the municipality has created routines for the evaluation of its managers it does not always evaluate the formal part of management. Almost all of the interviewed managers have experienced flaws with the current methodology. They made several suggestions to improve the process. Using existing research, the study was also able to highlight potential flaws with the evaluation process and suggested several ways to improve upon current practices.

The Androchair: Performing Gynaecology through the Practice of Gender Critical Design2017In: Design journal, ISSN 1460-6925, E-ISSN 1756-3062, Vol. 20, no 2, p. 181-198Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper highlights the important role that design plays when it comes to women's overall experiences of ther gynaecological examination. It exemplifies how the examination can become renegotiable through the practice of a critical design. We will reflect this in the design of the contemporary gynaecological examination chair (GEC). We used women's experiences as a starting point for the design of an Androchair (a conceptual male equivalent of the GEC), in order to make the experiences critically visible. Inspired by the view of the gynaecological examination as a performance where the Androchair is represented as a prop and was placed on a stage as a discussion object during a public seminar. The Androchair allowed for both critical and multiple readings of the GEC and through that, the gynaecology examination at large. Moreover, it stimulated a discussion about alternative ideas towards achieving a more positive experience. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Flexibilitetens effekter: Bemanningsanställdas upplevelse av sina arbetsförhållanden2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this study we are investigating the working conditions of the employees in an employment agency within the public sector and how they feel about their work. We have specially focused on social support and social climate and the balance between working life and private life. The flexibility, which is a necessity for the employee in a staffing work, can affect the individual in more ways than in the work itself. The purpose with this study is to get an increased understanding of the working conditions for the employees in an employment agency and how they meet with these. To get an answer of our purpose we have used a qualitative survey consisting of interviews with employees in an employment agency within the public sector. The data in this study has been divided in four categories which are: appointment flexibility, social support, and psychosocial factors. The result showed that the informants like the flexible way of working with different working places, but the psychological factors have affect on their private lives. In the study theories around demand/control/ support, motivation and flexibility have been used. Important factors which have been indicated in the study were the meaning of unity, ability to take decisions and economic security.

    Abstract

Background: Alumni Network is a network of former employees of a company or graduates from a college or university. Alumni are rare in Sweden but in the U.S. these networks are very much active. In the final stages of the employment, alumni is part of the Employer Branding process, to keep in touch with their former colleagues. Purpose: The aim of this study is to get a deeper knowledge of advantages and disadvantages that companies experience with an alumni network and what effect it may have when a company sets up an alumni network.

Method: For the purposes of this paper, I conducted a qualitative study in which I interviewed a consulting company in the field of alumni to obtain an expert opinion, and four companies that currently operate alumni for their former employees.

Conclusion: All the companies I've interviewed agree that the benefits of an alumni network are numerous. Boomerang Recruiting, ambassadorship, business network and the possibility to develop a customer contact in the future are the primary benefits that are experienced. My conclusion is that more companies should start working with alumni because I think generation Y requires a strategic Employer Brand process where alumni are an important part. Alumni Network is a strategy that can contribute to the supply of skills. Alumni Network is also a process that can help the company to save money.

    Abstract [en]

In this study we meet women who gradually change our picture of the "double penalty", which complicates our view of a life of abuse and drug dependence, and the life in a women’s prison, but also simplifies the notion of the deep love they have for their children. Since these mothers have worked a lot with themselves and emerging from long periods of drug dependence, we have experienced the force which is released when someone is working with something she is passionate about. To help others and to allow the individual to accept help has guided this story about the human beings ability to get up and move on. The fact that the love seems to work side by side with the indebted problem has aroused our interest and is discussed in the text as a running theme. By allowing the individual emotions to meet sociological theories widens the perspective to an angle involving both macro- and micro-levels of society. This essay tries to explain the relationships as well as the incompatible roles and its impact on mothers in prison. Thomas J. Scheff's theory of social bonds is leading the discussion and is critical to understanding the need for consideration as well as the devastating impact of shame on the individual and society. Human diversity and multiple views of reality will find meaning in a social psychological interpretation and analysis originated from an innovative study.

    Abstract [en]

The Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) have undergone substantial cultural and social changes due to increased migration from the 1970s onwards. While the Nordic region has become more multicultural in terms of demography, workforces and cultural practices, criticism of multicultural politics has increased. Despite different patterns of immigration in the Nordic countries, they all seem to share growing political tensions with regard to multiculturalism and migration. Many migrants have experiences of racism and discrimination (Eide & Nikunen, 2010:1). In all Nordic countries, right-wing conservative parties have strengthened their position. In Norway and Denmark, such parties have for some time been represented in the Parliament, and in Sweden, the Sweden Democrats came into the Parliament after the 2010 election. This party has on its agenda to reduce the costs for migration and dramatically change the national migration policy. They blame the government for being too permissive and generous. It is against this background the present report is written.

    Abstract [en]

In 2015, 162,877 people sought asylum in Sweden. Most of the asylum seekers came from wartorn Syria, there were 51,338 asylum seekers (Immigration Service, 2016). The main purpose of the paper was to examine the social workers experience of the psychosocial work environment, and perceived competence at work, at a municipal unit for unaccompanied minors as a result of the increased workload as a result of the refugee crisis. The purpose was answered by the following questions: How do social workers their psychosocial work? How perceived competence in the daily work of the social workers? The method of the study was qualitative. Five semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers at a municipal unit for unaccompanied minors. The results showed that social workers feel that their psychosocial work is stressful due to the heavy workload arising in consequence of the refugee crisis. The results also showed that social workers perceived competence at work was varied, all experienced that they expand their skills at work through meeting with the unaccompanied minors.

    Dialogens paradoxer2014Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

This article details an evaluation of a research project based on participatory research methods organized by the Swedish Disability Federation from 2008 to 2011. In Sweden there has been a lack of productive dialogue with the traditional academic world and the question was raised whether proposals for future research would be different if disabled people formulated them. Nine idea-circles with disabled participants and invited researchers from fields of interest close to the participants produced ideas, developed out of the life experience of being a disabled person. These ideas were developed into 72 research drafts that often reflected key advocacy areas, rather than operationalized research issues. The adjustment from the familiar discourse of political struggle to discussion of research was a complicated process for many. When asked to prioritize among areas for research, the representatives from the disability movement chose areas that are not stressed in mainstream disability research in Sweden. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Genus och olika kunskaper i geografi.: En studie om förhållandet mellan ett antal elevers uppfattningom sina kunskaper i geografi, och deras olika lek- media- och resvanor.2010Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Jobbcoachers definition av sitt arbete: - ett yrke i vardande2010Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Employees’ work environment and patients’ rights, conflicting responsibilities when implementing patient online access to their EHR2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper is based on an interview study examining the implementation of the eHealth service patient online access to electronic health records in two county councils in Sweden. Our aim is to present and discuss the two councils’ implementation processes and the differences between them, with particular focus on the implementers’ consideration of caregivers’ work environment. A theoretical aim is to shed light on the complicated situation that arises when a county council is responsible for both the implementation of an eHealth service and the effects it has on the work environment of the employees (professionals). The results from the total of 16 semi-structured indepth interviews show that the two county councils differ in the following areas: 1) whether the implementation is interpreted as a threat for the work environment; 2) who the interviewees consider as responsible for the work environment; and 3) if it was considered important to build trust between the implementers (the county councils) and the professionals – and how this trustbuilding was accomplished. It is concluded that the differences between the two implementation processes was due in part to the difference in how the service was framed and labelled in the two respective county councils, and that one of the county councils has encountered difficulties in taking dual responsibility towards both patients and the work environment of the employees. This implies, according to Bovens’ (1998) classification, that one of the county councils takes active responsibility for the work environment while the other takes passive responsibility for the work environment.

Healthcare personel does not consider the eHealth service "patient online access to their electronic health record" to be beneficial for the work environment and patient safety2016In: 10th NOVO symposium: Sustainable healthcare through professional collaboration across boundaries, 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

IntroductionGovernment and public agencies in Sweden have promoted the expansion of eHealth. The strategy behind many of the eHealth services is to increase quality of care, enhance efficiency, patient empowerment and patient safety. Patient online access to their electronic health record (EHR) is one of the most important civic eHealth services. By 2017, all patients in Sweden will be able to access their EHR online. In Mars 2014, Region Skåne (RS) introduced the service in somatic care and in September 2015 RS introduced the service in adult psychiatry. The aim of this presentation is to discuss 1) how the employees in somatic care experience the service in terms of effects on work environment and patient safety. 2) How the employees in psychiatric care anticipated that the service would affect their work environment and patient safety. Material and methodsThe material presented derives from two surveys: 1) A full population web survey distributed to employees in somatic care in RS approximately two years after the introduction of the service (post implementation). Response rate: 20% (n = 2376). 2) A full population web survey that was distributed to employees in adult psychiatry in RS just before the introduction of the service (ante implementation). Response rate: 29% (n = 871). ResultsThe results show that the experience in somatic care and the expectation in adult psychiatric care correspond to a large degree. Respondents in both groups are sceptical to the anticipated positive effects of the service. The comparison between the two surveys further show that the employees with experience of the service (somatic care) are even more negative then the employees without experience (psychiatric care).ConclusionsThe results from the two surveys indicate that there is a large difference between the aimes of the national eHealth strategy and the expectations and experiences of the healthcare personell and that little attention is given to the negative effects that civic eHealth services may have on the work environment of healthcare personell. There is thus a need for more research about how eHealth services affect work environment, patient safety and quality of care.

A Theoretical Twist on the Transparency of Open Notes: Qualitative Analysis of Health Care Professionals’ Free-Text Answers2019In: Journal of Medical Internet Research, ISSN 1438-8871, E-ISSN 1438-8871, Vol. 21, no 9, article id e14347Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background: The New Public Management movement strove for transparency so that policy makers and citizens could gain insight into the work and performance of health care. As the use of the electronic health record (EHR) started to diffuse, a foundation was laid for enhanced transparency within and between health care organizations. Now we appear to be experiencing a new kind of transparency in the health care sector. Many health care providers offer their patients online access to their EHRs (here referred to as Open Notes). The Open Notes system enables and strives for transparency between the health care organization and the patient. Hence, this study investigates health care professional (HCP) perceptions of Open Notes and deepens the understanding of the transparency that Open Notes implies.

Objective: Based on two survey studies of HCP perceptions of Open Notes, this paper aims to deepen the academic writing on the type of transparency that is connected to Open Notes.

Methods: HCPs in adult psychiatry in Region Skåne, Sweden, were surveyed before and after implementation of Open Notes. The empirical material presented consists of 1554 free-text answers from two Web surveys. A qualitative content analysis was performed.

Results: The theoretically informed analysis pivots around the following factors connected to transparency: effectiveness; trust; accountability; autonomy and control; confidentiality, privacy, and anonymity; fairness; and legitimacy. The results show that free-text answers can be sorted under these factors as trade-offs with transparency. According to HCPs, trade-offs affect their work, their relationship with patients, and not least, their work tool, the EHR. However, since many HCPs also state that they have not met many patients, and in some cases none, who have read their EHRs, these effects seem to be more connected to the possibility (or threat) of transparency than to the actual effectuated transparency.

Conclusions: The implementation (or reform) of Open Notes is policy driven while demanding real-time transparency on behalf of citizens/patients and not the authorities, which makes this particular form of transparency quite unique and interesting. We have chosen to call it governed individual real-time transparency. The effects of Open Notes may vary between different medical specialties relative to their sensitivity to both total and real-time transparency. When HCPs react by changing their ways of writing notes, Open Notes can affect the efficiency of the work of HCPs and the service itself in a negative manner. HCP reactions are aimed primarily at protecting patients and their relatives as well as their own relationship with the patients and secondly at protecting themselves. Thus, governed individual real-time transparency that provides full transparency of an actual practice in health care may have the intended positive effects but can also result in negative trade-offs between transparency and efficiency of the actual practice. This may imply that full transparency is not always most desirable but that other options can be considered on a scale between none and full transparency.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to investigate how much knowledge ninth grade Swedish students posses on the subjects of conservation biology and biodiversity. Additionally, the students’ general interest for these subjects is examined. This is achieved using the method grounded theory. Data is collected in the form of interviews. Overall, 27 students from five different schools located within Halmstad municipality participated. The participating students statements is graded from 1-10. From interviews and grading, conclusions can be drawn. The main category indicates that the students in this study has the ability to see problems and challenges from a perspective that reflects a balance between human / nature coexistence. Societal awareness is an important part of conservation biology as this discipline integrates aspects of society, economy and political policy as well as biological aspects. Additionally, they described Swedish conservation biology examples as interesting and believed that Swedish examples should have a greater use in science lessons. The students found conservation biology fascinating and saw the need for increased education in this subject. When the students tried to define words such as “conservation biology” and “biodiversity”, they encountered some difficulties. The students did not understand these terms. These results suggest that methods for raising the understanding and knowledge of conservation biology and biodiversity are needed. Also, the students found it important to include more conservation biology in science lessons during secondary school. Thus, this study suggests that increased education of the public is needed and the expansion of conservation biology in schools is a viable approach to achieve this.

Entrepreneurial orientation and human resource management: effects from HRM practices2016In: Journal of Organizational Effectiveness, ISSN 2051-6614, E-ISSN 2051-6622, Vol. 3, no 2, p. 164-180Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

    Purpose

The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship between HRM practices and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in large established firms. More specifically, the purpose is to add to the understanding of the influence of HRM practices on EO.

    Design/methodology/approach

An e-mail survey was distributed to a sample of Swedish and German manufacturing firms in high-tech and medium high-tech manufacturing industries, and firms in knowledge-intensive services sectors, with more than 250 employees. In total, 810 surveys were distributed, with a response rate of 12.7 per cent. Findings - The results show that an emphasis on entrepreneurial aspects leads to an increased EO only in the case of training and development. A conclusion therefore is that it seems difficult to recruit personnel or to use appraisal and rewards as to create EO on a firm level.

    Practical implications

The study indicates that firms aiming to increase their EO should make sure to emphasize entrepreneurial aspects during staff training and development activities. Originality/value - This empirical study paves the way towards a better understanding of the link between HRM practices and EO. The results should be of interest for both HR professionals and researchers interested in understanding this important relationship.

    Abstract [en]

There is limited evidence for what characteristics of supervision delivery facilitate novice supervisees' development. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between supervision-delivery approaches and the perceptions of service-delivery competence development in novice practitioners. The authors interviewed 9 supervisor-supervisee dyads before and after the academic term in which the supervisees had their first applied experiences. Supervisees also completed reflective journal entries regarding their supervisory experiences and development. Data analysis included constant comparative analysis and triangulation of qualitative results with a practitioner-skills inventory. Different approaches to supervision delivery seemed to contribute similarly to novice supervisees' development. Supervisees developed in more areas when the dyads had consistent meetings, close supervisory relationships, feedback, and frequent opportunities for self-reflection and when supervisors adapted the delivery to the supervisees' developmental levels. In addition, factors in supervisees' background, practice, and supervision that contributed to perceptions of service-delivery competence are discussed. © 2018 Human Kinetics, Inc.

Vikten av ett proaktivt arbetsmiljöarbete: En studie om hur AFS 2015:4 tillämpas i en organisation, samt vilka effekter faktorerna har på medarbetarnas arbetstillfredsställelse2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Work is a major part of humans’ everyday life, thus a good work environment is crucial for perceived job satisfaction. When Arbetsmiljöverket (The Swedish Work Environment Authority) noted deficiencies in the organisational and social work environment, a provision, AFS 2015:4, was issued on March 31, 2016, to address the problems. This qualitative study aims to investigate how AFS 2015:4 is applied in an organisation, and what factors in AFS 2015:4 have effect on employees’ job satisfaction. To answer the purpose, three questions have been raised that deal with how managers and Human Resources (HR) apply the provision, as well as how aware employees are in the organisation's application of the provision. The final issue addresses what effects the factors of AFS 2015:4 have on employees’ job satisfaction.

To answer the purpose of the study, semi-structured interviews have been used as data collection method, and the empirical material has been analyzed using content analysis. The results show that managers work differently with the application of the provision and that it is not yet an integral part of the business. Employees’ are not involved in the work of the organisational and social work environment, which complicates the ability to work preventively with the provision. The factor that has the greatest positive effect on the employees’ job satisfaction is the social work environment, which can be deduced to the organisation continuing to pursue proactive work in promoting social relations.

Arbetsgivarvarumärket: Hur offentliga organisationer arbetar internt och externt med att attrahera och behålla medarbetare2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: Time is becoming one of the most important resources in the world. The pressures of time are becoming stronger and more common affecting workers and leader’s work life and health. Organizations can right now be losing some of their potential learning and performance by not dealing with time pressures.

Purpose: To find out what constrains organizational time, but also what enables it, how leaders and their organizations manage time.

Design/methodology/approach: This paper takes inspiration from social constructivism and ground theory.  It is a part of manager’s work to understand and manage a broader time dimension and boundaries. In doing so, they tend to develop and construct strategies to manage and optimize time.

Results: The pressure of always being accessible, dealing with a big amount of information and the difficulty of prioritize information where pointed out to be time consuming. Leaders believed that time can be improved by being clear to their employees, delegating tasks. Also by creating new improvement and set-up unscheduled time such as time rooms, to readjusting a more process-orientated attitude towards time.

Practical implications: This paper offers a contribution to understand how leader’s approaches, strategies and methods in time management can be used as organizational strategies for managing time. There are indications that a new set of information policies are at moment being developed in order to deal with overload of information.

    Abstract [en]

According to previous research, when it comes to sexuality, migration can create a risk for refugees as a result of changing norms and contexts. Therefore the purpose of the study is to identify and problematize the construction of those values and norms made visible in the way newly arrived young men talk about masculinities, in relation to sex and cohabitation. The theoretical framework is based on a hegemonic theory of masculinities and an understanding about how one as a subject position itself in relation to others. Six interviews using a semi-structured design were made with newly arrived young men at the age of 18. The interviews were analyzed using discourse as analytical method. The result identifies two different discourses. A patriarchal discourse and one equality discourse.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study is to investigate the experience of and the work with gender equality in a male dominated company, how women in production experience gender equality and how the company work with gender equality. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, we have conducted a survey in a Swedish industrial company with operations in several countries. We visited one of their workplaces which can be seen as a classic male dominated workplace since they only have 9.9% employed women. For the analysis of the study we have chosen to proceed from a social constructivist perspective and we have subsequently chosen suitable theories about, among other things, the creation of gender and gender labelling of organizations. The study is of a qualitative nature as the empirical material was collected through eleven interviews with ten different informants. Seven of them are women who work in production and three of them represent the company's gender equality work. In the result, we describe how the company work with gender issues and how women experience gender equality in the workplace. We found that the women liked their workplace, but they saw some areas of improvement in the field of gender equality at the workplace. In addition, most had a desire for a more transparent gender equality work that includes everyone in the organization.

    Abstract

The main purpose of this essay is to compare Sweden and Hungary’s implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  The study focuses on the countries´ perception of disability and how these perceptions are shown through implementation of CRPD. The essential subject throughout the essay is questions about disability, and how these questions have been interpreted in various health-related fields in both Sweden and Hungary.

In general, significance is attached to the construction of the concept of disability and how these concepts are applied to the implementation work of Sweden and Hungary.  Furthermore, similarities and differences between the countries are analyzed through Constructivism. The method of this essay is comparative, and the research questions, connected to the purpose of this essay, are important tools to analyze the data as they constitute the ground for the research. As a result, the method is used to draw attention to each country’s strategy to implement the CRPD. To sum up, the comparative analysis of this essay shows that there were patterns in both Sweden and Hungary that indicated that there were more similarities than differences between the countries on how they approached the Convention regarding disability issues.

Doing and undoing risk: the mutual constitution of risk and heteronormativity in contemporary society2017In: Journal of Risk Research, ISSN 1366-9877, E-ISSN 1466-4461, Vol. 20, no 3, p. 418-432Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper develops the concepts of ‘doing’ and ‘undoing’ risk, a new approach to risk research that echoes the ‘doing gender’ of gender studies. In this way, we combine intersectional and risk theory and apply the new perspective to empirical material. To better explore the doing and undoing, or the performance, of risk, we will refer to practices that simultaneously (re)produce and hide socio-political norms and positions, played out in contemporary, hierarchical relations of power and knowledge. The aim is to develop a theoretical understanding of doing and undoing risk. The study makes use of transcripts from five focus group interviews with men and women, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of different ages living in Sweden to develop a theory of ‘doing risk’. The doing of risk of our informants takes place within the frame of a hegemonic heteronormativity. The way that risks are perceived and done in everyday life therefore always needs to be read within a frame of prevailing structures of power. This counts for all of us as we are all part of the hegemonic power structures and thereby are both subject to the intersecting doings of risk and performatively reproducing these power structures in practice. © 2017 Taylor & Francis.

Everyday places, heterosexist spaces, and risk in contemporary Sweden2016In: Culture, Health and Sexuality, ISSN 1369-1058, E-ISSN 1464-5351, Vol. 18, no 1, p. 45-57Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Subjective feelings of risk are a central feature of everyday life, and evidence shows that people who do not conform to contemporary normative notions are often more exposed to everyday risks than others. Despite this, normative notions are rarely acknowledged as risk objects. By drawing on the theory of ‘doing’ and ‘undoing’ risk, which combines intersectional and risk theory, this study contributes new perspectives on the everyday risks in contemporary society that face people who many would label as being ‘at risk’ – lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The study consists of five focus group interviews with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of different ages in Sweden. Findings pinpoint risks and how these are done and un-done in different spheres of interviewees’ lives: the emotional risks prevailing in their private lives; the risk of discrimination at work and in relations with other institutions; and the risk of violence and harassment in public places. These risks are all related to the heteronormative order in which the mere fact of being lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender is perceived as a risk. © 2016 Taylor & Francis.

    Abstract [en]

Migration has been seen as an issue that needs to be addressed by governments as well as international organizations such as the European Union, IOM and so on. Over the last twenty years or so many political and scholars designed to combat the problem of migration at both national and international level. This thesis aims to explain whether migration is becoming viewed as a security threat for the EU or it’s just a challenge. I will focus primarily on the issue of migration to the European Union. The theory of securitization has been used to examine the process whether the issue of migration has become seen as a threat to the European member states. In this study I will use case study methods to analyze the process of securitization of migration to the EU and support my arguments with official political data.

Genus: Identifiera och ändra samhällets mönster när det kommer till kvinnligt och manligt2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Community Interpreter Training in Spoken Languages in Sweden2012In: International Journal of Interpreter Education, ISSN 2150-5772, E-ISSN 2150-5772, Vol. 4, no 2, p. 24-38Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The aim of this article is to analyze the community interpreter training program in Sweden and, based on the results of two research projects, describe structural conditions and shortcomings. The authors discuss Sweden’s laws and regulations, the changing demand for interpreting service in society, the open access ideology within adult education associations, and the limitation of economic resources for fulfilling the demand for trained interpreters. Interpreter training in Sweden is built on public-service needs in the areas of social insurance, the labor market, health care, and court interpreting. It is focused on factual knowledge and terminology and devotes little time for developing aspects of ethical rules, the role of the interpreter, and technical issues. In order to make progress possible it is important to use existing research and theory to develop didactics for community interpreting training. © The authors and CIT

Attraktiva fördelar: - en undersökning om en privat organisations arbete med employer branding, arbetsgivarvarumärke och EVP2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Nyckelord: Arbetsgivarvarumärket, Employer branding, Employee value proposition, attrahera personal, privat organisation
