    I dagens affärssamhälle är utbytet av vanliga visitkort i papper enormt. Det är utan tvekan det ledande sättet för människor som träffas första gången att utbyta information i en affärsrelation. Det finns brister gällande uppföljning och hantering av vanliga visitkort och projektgruppen började då fundera på alternativ till pappersvisitkorten.

    I dagens samhälle flyttas alltmer teknik till mobiltelefoner. En mobiltelefon kan idag användas till allt från att göra bankärenden till att läsa tidningen på nätet, vilket för 15 år sedan skulle låta helt orimligt. Det dyker dagligen upp nya mobilapplikationer som ska underlätta och effektivisera vardagen på något sätt och marknaden är enorm. På denna snabbt växande marknad har projektgruppen valt att ta fram ett koncept som de kallar Meetia.

    Meetia är i huvudsak en mobilapplikation framtagen för att trådlöst utbyta digitala visitkort och förenkla bokning av möten genom att synka användarnas kalendrar. Applikationen har även funktioner som låter användaren enkelt och snabbt skapa nya visitkort direkt i telefonen.

    Projektgruppen har även tagit fram en kompletterande hemsida till mobilapplikationen där användare har möjlighet att lagra och hantera de digitala visitkort som mottagits, för att sedan genom smarta sökfunktioner enkelt hitta de visitkort man söker.

    Meetia kommer vara ett optimalt verktyg för att skapa nya kontakter då hela vägen från första kontakt till möte eller lagring av visitkort enkelt sköts med konceptet Meetia. Meetia kommer framför allt inrikta sig mot mässor där visitkort är vanligt förekommande och mängder affärskontakter skapas. För att nå ut till de stora mässorna i Sverige kommer applikationen finnas med mässfunktioner.

    Anskaffandet av ett affärssystem innebär en stor investering, som ofta utgör en stor delav företagets totala budget. Det är i stort sett omöjligt att uppfylla alla de krav somföretagen ställer på systemet, vilket gör upphandlingsprocessen för affärssystem till enkomplex och svårarbetad process. I den tidigare forskning som utförts tas det endasthänsyn till hur stora företag hanterar upphandlingsprocessen vilket gör att medelstoraföretag hamnar i skymundan. Det är därför viktigt att undersöka hurupphandlingsprocessen för medelstora företag ser ut och hur utmaningar som uppstårhanteras. Resultatet av denna studie påvisar både skillnader och likheter mellanmedelstora och stora företag när det gäller upphandlingsprocess, dess utmaningar ochhur företagen väljer att hantera dessa.

    The use and abuse of 3D-printing from a business model perspective2016Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)
    Abstract [en]

    The paper analyses changes in user activities and behaviour across different types of actors following the introduction of 3D printers. 3D printing, or additive manufacturing, has been claimed to disrupt manufacturing, allowing firms to move from prototyping to full-scale end-part production and replacement part production in a one-step process. 3D printing has many different uses, for example, the manufacturing of toys, shoes, lamps and fashion accessories, and by implication many different types of users and buyers. There are few empirical studies on the types of uses and users of 3D, hampering our understanding in what ways the 3D printers may change the behaviour of users, and whether 3D printers affect the likelihood and the nature of entrepreneurship or business model innovation. To investigate this, a model was created based on the 3DP literature. The model is applied on a distributor customer database and four interview-based illustrative case studies. The empirical findings show that the use of 3DP a) lowers the knowledge and resource barriers for experimentation and entrepreneurial entry, b) increases product and concept prototyping in product development, c) provides a potential for business model innovation by expanding the boundaries of the firm upstream and downstream, and d) becomes a ticket for entrepreneurial entry. Based on our results, the paper suggests that the potential of 3D printers alter user innovative activities is high but most of the potential is latent.

The study uses multiple stylometric features to establish the authorship of a text as well as a model based on the TF-IDF model.

    This research lays a foundation for automated acquisition of volatile data by presenting a prototype device which carries out the deeds of a forensic investigator, essentially making it a “forensic investigator on a stick”. The Teensy 3.0 device is programmed to interact with an external USB device for storage purposes. All interaction with a live target system must be documented thoroughly according to forensic best practices. Therefore quantitative measurements of system contamination related to the device actions are presented. The device is conclusively able to perform a memory dump and provide a warning of the existence of Truecrypt encrypted containers.

    IT-användandet bland Sveriges företag är mycket stort och utvecklingen går snabbt framåt. Samtidigt som teknologin skapar möjligheter så skapar den även hot mot företagen själva. Dessa hotbilder glöms ofta bort och konsekvenserna kan bli att känslig information hamnar i fel händer.

    Undersökningen handlar om anställdas kunskap om den egna verskamhetens IT-säkerhetspolicy. I undersökningen granskas och jämförs även IT-säkerhetspolicys från ett mindre företag och en större kommunal organisation. Som metod har enkäter och intervjuer använts. Resultatet visar att kunskapen hos de anställda kring den egna IT-säkerhetspolicyn är varierande och att de båda policyerna ser mycket olika ut. En IT-säkerhetspolicy bör inte anses som en problemlösare i sig, utan användandet kan även ge nackdelar. Den kan ge stöd och tydlighet i arbetet och kan underlätta i beslutsfattande situationer och öka säkerheten i företaget. Det räcker dock inte med att ha en detaljrik och heltäckande IT-säkerhetspolicy, om de anställda inte känner till att den finns eller inte vet vad den innehåller. En IT-säkerhetspolicy bör vara ett levande dokument som tas upp för gemensam diskussion och revideras med jämna mellanrum.

    Abstract [en]

    This article explains why firms move downstream to profit from the value they create for customers through improved control. Under certain circumstances, product innovations and services are dynamically interdependent in the sense of improved control creating value for the customer. Since value capture is distinct from value creation, firms may need to change their means of appropriation to profit. Empirically, the article analyses how firms can renew their product offerings by incorporating control technologies into their traditional mechanical engineering products. In contrast to a strand in the recent strategy literature that argues that manufacturing firms should move downstream to deliver complementary services, this article explains these shifts as related to increased control, economies of throughput, value creation, and value capture. The article contributes to the throughput and control technology literature by showing the importance of differentiating value creation from value capture. The increased control by means of digitalization and the discrepancy between value creation and value capture explains why many manufacturing firms will become service firms.

    At small Halmstad University we have, for the past 13 years, a unique educational program in innovation engineering. The three-year educational program provides the candidates with a broad technical and economical education with special emphasise on handling the innovation process and running new product development projects. An optional fourth year, entitled innovation management, focuses on leadership, innovation, and the choices of technology in multinational companies. This is the summing up of 13 years of experience, during which 286 innovation engineers received an education (even if 22% left with one or two unwritten exams).

    This project is a step towards automatic firefighting. The goal is to decrease the number of personal injuries by replacing the human firefighter with robots or similar technical tools. Especially in very hostile environments due to risk of explosions or building collapse. A robot is easy to replace and can be maneuvered from a safe distance. The idea of the project comes from the company Drones Networking which aims for developing a totally autonomous firefighting system. The result of this project is a prototype of a robot which handles the hose during firefighting.

    Determination of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in district heating mains: Field measurements1994Doktoravhandling, monografi (Annet vitenskapelig)

    This thesis concerns the development of a measurement method for determination in the field of the thermal conductivity of the insulation in buried district heating mains.

    The thermal conductivity of the insulation is calculated from the measured value of the radial heat flow through the heating main, the measured temperature difference across the insulation, and the dimensions of the heating main. The heat flow has been measured with a heat flux sensor which was fitted to the surface of the casing. The temperature has been measured with copper/constantan thermocouples.

    It is a necessary condition for the method used in the project for determination of the thermal conductivity of the heating main insulation that the heating main is uncovered and is not in contact with the surrounding soil over a distance of about 1.5 m and that the measurements are made directly on the heating main. In this way, no account need be taken of the material surrounding the heating main, nor of the effect of this material on the measurements. No interference is needed with the heating main which would affect the distribution of the district heating water, and the heating main can remain in operation during measurements.

    Shielding insulation consisting of preformed insulation sections which were placed over the casing of the heating main and covered the heat flux sensor and some of the casing. The function of this insulation was to shield the heat flux sensor from external thermal disturbances. In the field measurements, a copper guard plate of 0.5 mm thickness, the temperature of which could be adjusted, was also placed over the shielding insulation in order to maintain the temperature on the heat flux sensor as constant as possible.

    When temperature and heat flow are measured, the instruments used will be affected by conditions which prevail at the time of measurement. It is therefore very important to analyse the sources of error which may arise in the measuring situation at hand.

    The effect of these factors on the measured values has been studied by

    ' laboratory measurements

    ' theoretical calculations

    ' field measurements

    On the basis of the resulting values of heat flows and temperatures obtained in field measurements on plastic heating mains which were operating under normal conditions, the thermal conductivity of the insulation of the main has been estimated.

    The method has been tested on plastic heating mains with directly foamed insulation, since this is the most common type of heating main both in the existing district heating network and in new construction. The measuring method can also be used on other circular heating mains.

    Future cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) applications aimed to improve safety, efficiency and comfort on our roads put high demands on the underlying wireless communication system. To gain better understanding of the limitations of the 5.9 GHz frequency band and the set of communication protocols for medium range vehicle to vehicle (V2V) communication, a set of field trials with CALM M5 enabled prototypes has been conducted. This paper describes five different real vehicle traffic scenarios covering both urban and rural settings at varying vehicle speeds and under varying line-of-sight (LOS) conditions and discusses the connectivity (measured as Packet Reception Ratio) that could be achieved between the two test vehicles. Our measurements indicate a quite problematic LOS sensitivity that strongly influences the performance of V2V-based applications. We further discuss how the awareness of these context-based connectivity problems can be used to improve the design of possible future cooperative ITS safety applications.

    This article explores the roles of leadership, vision, and empowerment in two Swedish born global companies. Using case studies and interviews with employees and managers, the article examines how managers can lead their companies by creating a vision and empowering their employees. The findings indicate that a company vision should reflect a culture that supports the employees’ daily activities and decisions. A leadership style that features delegation of responsibility and recognition of employee work autonomy empowers employees in a way that can advance the development and internationalization of the born global company, especially in situations when top managers are often away from company headquarters. © 2017 The Author(s)

    Denna rapport presenterar ett examensarbete på kandidatnivå omfattande 15 högskolepoäng, som genomfördes på Högskolan i Halmstad under vårterminen 2013. Examensarbetet avslutar den tre år långa maskiningenjörsutbildningen med inriktning teknisk design. Projektet genomfördes i samarbete med Macro International AB tillsammans med Ballingslöv, och handledaren på företaget var Jörgen Carlsson. Målet med projektet var att utveckla ett produktförslag för ett badrumsskåp av spegeltyp som skulle passa in i Ballingslövs framtida badsortiment. Det slutliga produktförslaget skulle uppfylla krav som ställdes av uppdragsgivaren, främst med avseende på belysning, utformning, funktion och förvaring. För att garantera ett framstående resultat skapades inom projektet en specifikt anpassad designprocess, som följdes under arbetets gång. Flera moment som mycket väl kunde ha ingått i denna sattes upp som avgränsningar i början av projektet, främst på grund av tidsbegränsningen. Moment som ingick i designprocessen delades upp i fem steg: startfas, analysfas, idégenereringsfas, vidareutvecklingsfas och slutfas. Resultat som erhölls var ett slutligt produktförslag för ett funktionellt badrumsskåp och ett primärt förvaringskoncept. Visualiseringen av den framtagna produkten genomfördes främst med hjälp av Catia V5R20 och KeyShot 4. Färdiga ritningar finns bifogade i rapporten och kan användas vid eventuell tillverkning.

    The number of WiFi Devices is increasing every day, most people traveling hasa device with a WiFi network card enabled. This is something EffectSoft AB in Halmstad utilizes in their service Flow, to track and count devices. The accuracy of counted devices was however not accurate enough for a commercial use and this is where this candidate Thesis will continue research on how to improve the accuracy. It introduces the fundamental problem on how one cannot directly count transmitted MAC-Addresses to count present devices, since the manufacturers implement features against this such as MAC-Address randomization. It covers how manufacturers are not consistent in their implementation of the IEEE 802.11 standard, how this can be utilized to estimate how many devices are present in the networkwith three different approaches. It also concludes that Control Frame Attacks is not a viable approach any longer to count devices and the best method for counting devices are a combination of Passive Probe Request Analysis techniques.

    Central autentisering är en metod som länge har använts för att på ett lätthanterligtsätt administrera användare till olika nätverksresurser såsom datorer, skrivare ochservrar. I en tid när många industrier uppgraderas och byggs ut för att möta nyakrav för att kunna nås från runt om i världen måste många system byggas om.Arbete genomförs tillsammans med HMS Industrial Networks AB och kommer attundersöka möjligheten att autentisera användare mot en inbyggd kontroll ochstyrenhet centralt istället för lokalt vilket det idag är. Teori kommer att blandas medegna experiment av möjliga implementeringar och slutligen utvärderas all fakta ochen slutsats presenteras.

    There is an increased interest in contact-less vital sign monitoring methods as they offer higher flexibility to the individual being observed. Recent industrial development enabled radar functionality to be packed in single-chip solutions, decreasing application complexity and speeding up designs. Within this paper, a vital sign radar has been developed utilizing a recently released 60GHz frequency modulated continuous wave single-chip radar in combination with 3D-printed quasi-optics. The electronics development has been focused on compactness and high system integration using a low cost design process. The final experiments prove that the radar is capable of tracking human respiration rate and heartbeat at the same time from a distance of 1m.

    Abstract [en]

    Research focusing on business model innovation tends to either be case-based, studying the transformation of a firm’s business model, or normative in terms of how to implement new business models. Prior research has tended to neglect the various choices and decisions of the organization for business model innovation and the mechanisms that lead to good or poor business model implementation performance. This paper identifies mechanisms that influence the performance of the business model innovation process. Empirically, the paper draws on two case studies of two multinational firms, Skanska and IKEA, and how they organized their business model innovation processes. The paper identifies four mechanisms, including search, leadership, commitment, and external collaboration, derived from within-case and cross-case analysis. The paper contributes to the growing field of business model innovation by showing important mechanisms that influence the potential and performance of the implemented business model innovations.

    Business model innovation has received substantial attention by both practitioners and researchers during the last fifteen years. While many companies have good processes and a shared sense of how to innovate technology, they are less capable when it comes to how they should innovate business models. This lack of practical skills is mirrored by the shortage of scholarly understanding, in which business model innovation as a phenomenon is poorly explained in comparison to e.g. product or process innovations.

    Although previous research has contributed greatly to the advancements of business model innovation, our conceptual understanding of business model innovation is still rather confused. Behind this study, lies two related assumptions; (i) not all business model innovations are the same, and, (ii) different types of business model innovation will challenge firms in different ways. To this background, the purpose of this study is to develop a framework that will allow for a conceptual differentiation between different types of business model innovation.

    The paper draws on previous studies in the field of technology and innovation management and develops a framework – “The Business Model Innovation Map” – that distinguishes between different types of business model innovation according to their degree of novelty. The framework is illustrated by several real-life examples of business model innovation.

    The paper adds to our understanding of innovation management as it allows for a better understanding of business model innovation as a distinct type of innovation. More specifically, it helps differentiating transformative business model innovations from mere incremental ones, and, as such, it presents a novel approach to categorize different types of business model innovation. The framework can serve as a basis for future in-depth empirical investigations of different types of business model innovation that can help firms to better understand how to manage such innovations.     This paper adds new knowledge on how raw materials should be managed in iron and steelmaking firms. While previous research has contributed significantly to how firms should deal with functional challenges related to raw materials, the understanding of Raw Materials Management from a holistic perspective is largely lacking, and extant research does not provide qualified advice to firms on this matter. This study provides such knowledge by drawing on insights from Höganäs AB, a world leader in ferrous powder metallurgy, and their efforts to identify key aspects and principles of raw materials management. Our elaboration of a more holistic view on raw materials management builds on two elements. First, we depict five external uncertainties and three internal conditions that impact firm-level raw materials management. Second, we present six critical capabilities that underpin proficient firm-level raw materials management. The paper concludes with a discussion of implications for both firms aiming to increase their raw materials proficiency and to future investigations into this important area. © The Author(s) 2018

    It is widely acknowledged that the design and quality of the business model is a main building block in what constitute a successful company. In this paper, we approach the critical question of how firms can successfully renew their business models over time. The aim is to identify the main sequences of events that precede business model innovation and which trigger evolutionary changes in how a firm develops and capture value. Theoretically, we approach business model innovation as an evolutionary phenomenon by emphasizing the dynamic and path dependent aspects of strategic change processes. Empirically, we employ a historical case study where we make an in-depth analysis of a firm in the process industry that has managed to innovate its business model several times since its inception. In all, the study identifies five main sequences of events related to customer value proposition, strategic investments, corporate identity, corporate structure, and value networks.

    Current temperature levels in European district heating networks are still too high with respect to future conditions as customer heat demands decrease and new possible heat source options emerge. A considerable reduction of temperature levels can be accomplished by eliminating current faults in substations and customer heating systems. These faults do not receive proper attention today, because neither substations nor customer heating systems are centrally supervised. The focus of this paper has been to identify these faults by annual series of hourly meter readings obtained from automatic meter reading systems at 135 substations in two Swedish district heating systems. Based on threshold methods, various faults were identified in 74% of the substations. The identified faults were divided into three different fault groups: Unsuitable heat load pattern, low average annual temperature difference, and poor substation control. The most important conclusion from this early study of big data volumes is that automatic meter reading systems can provide proactive fault detection by continuous commissioning of district heating substations in the future. A complete reduction of current faults corresponds to approximately half the required reduction of the current temperature levels in the effort toward future low-temperature district heating networks.     Collaborative ideation is a key practice for innovation. Implementing suitable appropriability mechanisms during this collaborative ideation is a necessary yet difficult task. This difficulty owes to a high level of uncertainty and low level of codification because partners work on loosely defined concepts that may change during the collaboration. Firms can employ several appropriability mechanisms to protect their knowledge. Examples include patents, copyright, legal agreements, document management, lead time, secrecy and complexity. However, the best time to apply each mechanism remains unclear, and few empirical studies have explored this issue. This study is based on exploratory case studies of three manufacturing firms. The goal is to identify which appropriability mechanisms are pertinent at each phase of collaborative ideation and how they influence the effectiveness of protection. The results of the analysis lead to the development of a model describing the managerial practices that influence the effectiveness of protection. The results also lead to a set of research propositions to define when each appropriability mechanism is most likely to be used. Overall, this research contributes to the discussion of how to integrate formal and informal appropriability mechanisms for safe collaborative ideation. © 2018, The Author(s).

    Managing the Collaborative Front End of Innovation in Manufacturing Firms: Requirements, Capabilities, and Conditions2018Doktoravhandling, med artikler (Annet vitenskapelig)

    The front end is a phase of the innovation process that starts with a new product idea and completes when firms have developed a new product definition. This phase is critical for many manufacturing firms. Front-end outcomes is indeed critical to overall product success, market penetration, time to-market, and financial performance. During this phase, new products are born as ideas, and subsequently move through screening, project definition, and business analysis. However, this phase remains poorly understood in the era of more open innovation (e.g., interfirm collaboration). Although the literature on front end of innovation is well developed, prior studies have largely focused on bilateral agreements and have overlooked conditions for collaboration with science-based partners (universities and research institutes). This is especially true for manufacturing firms, for which a continuous stream of new product ideas is a key source of competitiveness. To make things worse, the front end of innovation conducted with external actors involved is often characterized by incongruent practices by partners, different magnitudes of fuzziness, and considerable risks in revealing new ideas. Developing new product definitions with different partners is thus a risky endeavor if mishandled that may seriously compromise competitive advantages of firms. Therefore, greater knowledge is required to facilitate the collaborative front end with different types of partners. Against this background, the purpose of this dissertation is to understand how to manage the collaborative front end in manufacturing firms, with a particular focus on requirements, capabilities, and conditions.

    To fulfill this research purpose, data on manufacturing firms were collected through four case studies and one survey. In total, this dissertation is based on empirical data from 81 interviews with R&D members across 10 medium-sized and large manufacturing firms, as well as a survey of 146 small and medium-sized manufacturing firms. Respondents were based in Brazil or Sweden. The key theories and literature covered include coordination modes, control mechanisms, organizational routines, the resource-based view, and appropriability mechanisms.

    This dissertation makes several contributions. First, it extends the front-end literature by presenting the concepts of systematic idea generation and fuzziness assessment as a prerequisite for improving front-end performance. Second, this dissertation lists collaboration conditions that help firms cooperate better with science-based partners. By collaborating with science-based partners, firms  can access codified and tacit scientific knowledge, enabling them to rapidly build on the latest research insights. The findings suggest particular practices that can be applied to reduce cultural differences and diminish goal divergence among project members. Third, this dissertation describes a set of detailed practices to streamline the involvement of different types of partners using diverse appropriability mechanisms. Ultimately, a theoretical framework is developed to describe how to manage the collaborative front end of innovation. The theoretical framework explains how manufacturing firms can use their organizational capabilities to efficiently and safely develop new product ideas. In particular, the framework identifies the necessary capabilities to explore mechanisms, practices, and routines in terms of divergent thinking, external expertise, and multiple opinions. Altogether, these contributions will assist firms to better manage collaborative front end.

    This article examines the context of the front-end process in a multinational Brazilian firm that manufactures electric motors. By adopting an in-depth case study method, this article evaluates the front end as a strategic and tactical process within the Brazilian firm studied. The competitive arena, consisting mainly of Asian competitors, encouraged the Brazilian firm to review the stages of the front-end process and include new activities, such as (i) involving abstractive practices in the first stages; (ii) developing cross-functional capabilities in the research and development department; (iii) adopting tear-down activities of competitors’ products concerning all business segments; and (iv) defining a priori the boundary conditions of financial constraints.

    Small‐ and medium‐sized enterprises (SMEs) largely depend on proficient idea generation activities to improve their front‐end innovation performance, yet the liabilities of newness and smallness often hamper SMEs' ability to benefit from systematic idea generation. To compensate for these liabilities, many SMEs adopt an open innovation approach by collaborating with market‐based partners such as customers and suppliers. This study investigates the relationship between SMEs' systematic idea generation and front‐end performance and investigates the moderating role of market‐based partnership for SMEs. Drawing on a survey of 146 Swedish manufacturing SMEs, this study provides two key contributions. First, the systematic idea generation and front‐end performance relationship in SMEs is non‐linear. Accordingly, higher levels of front-end performance are achieved when idea generation activities are highly systematic. Second, the returns from higher levels of systematic idea generation are positively moderated by market‐based partnerships. Thus, external cooperation with customers and suppliers pays off most toward front‐end performance when SMEs have highly systematic idea generation processes. These results indicate a contingency perspective on the role of external partnerships. They also have implications for research into the front‐end of innovation and open innovation in the context of SMEs. © 2018 John Wiley & Sons Ltd

We ask when and under which circumstances does such collaboration provides’ highest benefit towards front-end innovation performance? By drawing on a survey of 142 Swedish manufacturing SMEs, this paper provides two key findings. First, systematic idea generation and front-end performance relationships is non-linear, such that disproportionally higher levels of performance are achieved when idea generation is highly systematic. Second, the pay-off from high level of idea generation is largely influenced by presence of market-based partners. Thus, our findings show that external collaboration in idea generation does not pay off unless SMEs have internal systematic processes for idea generation in place before external input is sought. This implies a contingency perspective on external collaboration and provides implications for research into the front-end of innovation and open innovation, in addition to novel managerial implications about how to better involve partners in idea generation and selection.

    Firms are increasingly relying on collaborating with external partners to drive technology development. Many firms struggle with managing the inherently uncertain and ambiguous technology development process, especially with external actors involved, because they may not have or share the same project management practices concerning coordination and control activities. To address this gap, this study examines appropriate project management practices for market-based and science‐based partnerships in three large technology‐intensive firms. Our results suggest that interorganizational technology development is problematic because firms lack sufficient partner understanding and struggle with aligning their project management practices with those of their partners. To address these problems, we identify project management practices of coordination and control to fit the contingencies of each type of partner collaboration. Our results provide implications for theory and managerial practices related to managing interorganizational technology development. © 2017 John Wiley & Sons Ltd

    Managing Open Technology Development: Adapting Stage-Gate Processes to Partner Types2015Konferansepaper (Fagfellevurdert)

    Firms are increasingly reliant on collaborating with external partners to drive their technology development efforts in light of increasing pace of development and global competition. However, many firms struggle with managing the inherently uncertain and ambiguous process of technology development with external actors because these may not share the same technological understandings, processes and goals. Accordingly, we argue that further research is required to better understand the management of joint projects with different types of partners within technology development. To fill this gap this study examines the adaptation of traditional stage-gate processes for technology development projects with science-based and market-based partners in three large technologies oriented firms. Our results shows that open technology development projects are often problematic because firms lack partner understanding and have difficulty aligning their development processes with external partners. To address these problems we found that our firms adapted their processes by implementing externally oriented stages, gates and roles to suit the contingencies of collaboration with science-based and market-based partners respectively. Our results provide implications for theory and management practice concerning the management of open innovation and stage-gate processes.

    Background: In the martial art of Muay Thai, techniques are used with hands, elbows, knees and kicks. The contestants are divided into different weight classes and experience levels. The Swedish martial arts association has decided that techniques with elbow are not allowed in B-class. Why is it so?

    Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate whether the martial arts delegation decision to restrict techniques with elbows to the head in the B-class is justified. To do this, comparison of peak force and impulse between elbow techniques and already authorized techniques with hand and kick was compared.

    Method: Ten Muay Thai practitioners of high class (Class A and Class B) hit a punching bag fitted with a triaxial accelerometer. The force was calculated by multiplying the mass of the bag with acceleration resultant. The peak force was taken out and compared between the techniques. A high-speed camera was used to record the techniques. The contact time was calculated through video analysis and through analyzing the power data of the techniques. The contact time was used to calculate the impulse.

    Results: Peak force for technique with the hand was 135 (SD 757) N greater than for technique with elbow. Peak force for technique with kick was 348 (SD 835) N less than the technique with elbow. The differences were not statistically significant. For impulse calculated by video analysis, technique with hand was 18 (SD 13) Ns greater than for technique with elbow and technique with kick was 13 (SD 27) Ns greater than for technique with elbow. Analysis of the force data showed the same trend. Technique with hand was 14 (SD 9) Ns greater than technique with elbow and technique with kick was 4 (SD 19) Ns greater than for technique with elbow. Impulse difference between hand techniques and elbow techniques was statistically significant.

    Conclusion: Techniques with elbow does not generate statistically significantly greater peak force or impulse than already permitted techniques. The martial arts delegation decision should be reviewed.

    Sammanfattning

    Denna rapport avser ett examensarbete på kandidatnivå i Produktutveckling och innovationsledning och har genomförts på Högskolan i Halmstad. Examensarbetet har utförts i projektform under höstterminen 2015 och vårterminen 2016. Projektet avser konstruktion och produktutveckling. Projektarbetet har utförts tillsammans med företaget HMS Industrial Networks AB.

    Målet med projektet var att ersätta monteringen för en av företagets väletablerade produkter. Kraven för den nuvarande produkten gavs som vägledning för den nya lösningen med vikt på hållfasthet och materialval. För framtagning av lösningen har projektmodellen Dynamisk produktutveckling används tillsammans med vägledning från integrerad produktutveckling. Projektet har inneburit en stram tidsplan vilket har krävt disciplinerat arbete.

    Resultatet avser en lösning för montering av Anybus CompactCom utifrån DFMA metodik. Det ska bidra med användarvänlighet genom ett minskat antal delar för monteringen och eliminera användningen av monteringsverktyg. Företaget önskar en produkt som är lätt att förstå med lämpligt materialval. För att visualisera de framtagna koncepten och analysera dessa har programvaran Catia V5 använts.

    Resultatet är ett koncept som överlämnas i form av affärsplan, CAD-modell av lösning samt handlingsplan för implementering.

There are plenty of ways to go about to x this problem, but this thesis is focused on the development of a REST API that will be replacing the non-existent system. The main goal is to create the API and run it within a containerized environment using Docker. The whole system should run on Amazon Web Services, that will be working as a server to keep the system going at all times. Nowadays, security is important due to plenty of ways to attack a system, which is why security and authorization will be a high priority. The result will be a well-functioning, high security system that uses MongoDB database to store and process data in a secure way.

    När organisationer implementerar ett nytt ERP-systemligger deras intresse påkonkurrensfördelar och ekonomiska vinster. Det fokuseras på vilka fördelar systemet kan georganisationeni form av snabbare ledtider, reducerade kostnader, bättre beslutsstöd och resursöversikt. Dessa konkreta fördelar ärävenlättare att hålla koll på och att mäta. Svårigheter finns i att hantera fördelar som systemet kan ge användarna. Implementation av ett nytt, verksamhetsövergripande, ERP-system kan påverka kärnprocesser, arbetsmönster och uppgifter. Det blir då viktigt att ta hänsyn till användarna för att underlätta deras övergång till det nya systemet.Genom en litteraturstudie beskrivskonsulters arbete med ERP-implementationer och den kunskapen debesittersamt vilka fördelar som ett system kan ge användarna.     Det pågår ett skifte där varor har skiftat mot en mer tjänsteinriktad marknad som påverkar allt flera branscher, bland annat affärssystembranschen. Det produktorienterade synsättet har ersatts av Service Dominant (S-D) logik, där värde samskapas av aktörer i ett aktör-till-aktör nätverk. Denna utveckling kommer påverka aktörerna: kund, affärssystempartner och affärssystemleverantör, som är de aktörer som traditionellt ingår i ett aktör-till-aktör nätverk inom affärssystembranschen.

    Studien syftar till att skapa förståelse kring hur affärssystempartners och affärssystemleverantöres roller i aktör-till-aktör nätverket kommer förändras när affärssystem levereras som en molntjänst. Samt hur detta kommer påverka aktörernas relation till varandra. Studien har identifierat utmaningar som molnbaserade affärssystem kommer föra med sig för affärssystempartners och affärssystemleverantörer. Molnbaserade affärssystem har påverkat affärssystempartners och affärssystemleverantörers roller och sätt att arbeta. Främst affärssystempartners roll då deras arbetsuppgifter ersätts av andra aktörer.

    Digitaliseringen har gjort det enklare för kunder att jämföra priser mellan konkurrenter, hitta fler tillgängliga konkurrenter och enklare byta mellan konkurrenter. Dagens kunder vet vad de vill ha och en ökad informationstillgänglighet har medfört en högre press på företag att ändra tillvägagångssätt och tillmötesgå kunders nya önskemål. Att erbjuda e-tjänster som anpassats efter internets unika fördelar har blivit vitalt för företag som vill nå framgång. Men samtidigt finns det ett aktuellt behov hos kunder av en god kundrelation som inte uppfylls med dagens e- tjänster. På grund av det undersöker denna studie hur personifiering och social närvaro kan designas för att stödja goda kundrelationer på e-tjänster. Detta undersöks med hjälp av en designorienterad forskningsansats och implementering av designelement i en prototyp utformad som en banks e-tjänst. Studiens resultat pekar på att kontroll, omhändertagning, flexibilitet och motivation är viktigt för användaren vid användning av e-tjänster för att goda kundrelationer ska stödjas.

    Målet att förbättra socialt nätverkande mellan deltagare på fysiska evenemang kan uppnås genom informationsutbyten med stöd av digitala matchningssystem. Evenemangsdeltagare har ett behov av att under sin planeringsfas få tillgång till information kring andra besökare och evenemangets innehåll då dessa är viktiga faktorer vid beslutet att besöka ett evenemang. Tidigare forskning efterfrågar IT-stöd som kan effektivisera potentiella evenemangsbesökares planeringsfas med syfte att stötta socialt nätverkande under evenemanget. Den här studien har därmed genomförts för att undersöka hur IT-stöd kan designas för att stötta socialt nätverkande mellan evenemangsdeltagare. Med hjälp av en designorienterad ansats formulerades fyra designförslag som kan användas för att bemöta de behov som evenemangsdeltagare har under planeringsfasen av ett evenemang. Dessa designförslag implementerades i en prototyp som utvärderades i en specifik användningskontext med fokus på socialt nätverkande. Studiens resultat har bidragit med en utökad kunskap kring hur IT-stöd i planeringsfasen av ett fysiskt evenemang kan designas för att stötta socialt nätverkande vilket besvarar studiens frågeställning. Denna kunskap har även bidragit med att ge förslag på hur framtida forskning inom området kan riktas.

    Abstract [en]

    Traffic accidents where wild animals are involved represents between 60 and 80 percent of all reported accidents, depending on location in Sweden. In a country like Sweden, with a lot of forest, there is always risk of a collision with a wild animal. Imagine if you, as a road user, had the possibility to receive warnings when the risk of an accident according to statistics is extra high.

    Wildlife Detection Network is a wildlife warning system with an information service, which makes the whole concept unique. When an animal is approaching the road, it is registered by sensors, and warning lights along the road are lit to inform drivers of the potential danger. In conclusion, this is a direct warning to all drivers on the road where the system is placed.

    When an animal is registered by the sensors, information containing time, date, weather circumstances and coordinates are sent to a database. The database stores information about the animal activity in the area, and will read out activity patterns for the animals. For example, the risk for a collision might be higher between 6.00 and 8.00 AM when the temperature is about ten degrees.

    When you approach the measured area in your car, you will receive a warning in you smartphone or GPS-unit. The warning tells you that the risk of encountering a wild animal along the road is high during the current circumstances. The associated service works as a complement for those that further wants to reduce the risk of a wildlife accident.

    We are well aware of that wildlife accidents are a very complex and in particular intractable problem. The two of us behind Wildlife Detection Network are proud of our concept and we are hopeful that our system will contribute to a decrease in wildlife accidents in the future.

    Miljöfrågor blir allt viktigare i vårt samhälle och att återvinna har aldrig varit så viktigt som nu. En viktig del av miljöfrågan är återvinning. För att kunna återvinna mer och bättre så investerar kommunerna allt mer för att få hushållen att källsortera mer regelbundet och på rätt sätt.   Målet med projektet har varit att utveckla en källsorteringsstation som ska gynna och underlätta för hushållen vid källsortering. Genom nära kontakt med Halmstad Energi och Miljö och marknadsundersökningar gentemot hushållen har en källsorteringsstation för hemmen tagits fram. ModBin är ett projekt med många potentiella intressenter och ett framtida samarbete med kommuner och återförsäljare runt om i Sverige ligger inte långt bort.  Genom att studera och konversera med experter inom området har vi tagit fram en källsorteringsstation som skiljer sig från nuvarande lösningar genom att ge användaren utefter sina egna behov möjlighet att skapa sin egen station under diskbänken och samtidigt gömma soppåsarnas kanter, som sticker ut runt andra soptunnor.    Vårt koncept illustreras på vår hemsida modbin.se och är i stora drag redo för att säljas både till kund och återförsäljare. Om även ett samarbete med kommuner runt om i Sverige kan knytas så ser ModBin ut att gå en spännande framtid till mötes.

    SQLite filer används av ett flertal olika program för att spara viktig information.Information som kan vara viktig för forensiska utredningar, behovet att kunnaåterskapa SQLite filer är då ett växande bekymmer. Problemet med att återskapa SQLitefiler är att, till skillnad från andra filer så har SQLite filer inget definerat slut eller någonmarkör som visar var filen slutar. Detta arbete presenterar en ny metod att bestämmaslutet på SQLite filer och jämför denna metod mot den metod som används idag tillmesta del för att återskapa SQLite filer. För att jämföra dessa metoder utvecklades tvåprogram stpextr och blkextr. Blkextr är den metod som utvecklades under detta arbete.Stpextr visade sig vara snabbare och använda mindre arbetsminne än blkextr. Men ivissa sammanhang så kommer information gå förlorad när stpextr körs till skillnad från blkextr.

    Today the digital evolution is progressing rapidly. This entails both pros and cons concerning the security of devices. Despite the evolution, security has been left in the dark. This results in threats and vulnerabilities in devices, which could potentially be used by a hacker with the purpose of exploiting information. Security has not been a priority in industrial enterprises, even though industrial devices and other networked devices reside on the same network. The evolution of the infrastructure of the Internet has resulted in an increase of cyberattacks. These attacks used to target random individuals. The attacks of today are more intelligent, and hackers have changed their targets to specific enterprises to further exploit sensitive information, damage devices or for financial benefits.

    Safety in today’s industrial workplaces, such as firewalls, encryption and intrusion detection systems are not specifically designed to work in this type of environment. This leads to new threats and vulnerabilities which further leads to more exploited vulnerabilities.

    This formulate the following questions: Which are the most occurring threats and vulnerabilities today? What current methods and tools are suited for controlling security in IIoT-networks and its internal industrial devices?

    The purpose of this thesis was to examine the most occurring threats and vulnerabilities in IIoT-networks and its internal devices and reason among the methods to evaluate security in industrial enterprises. Lastly, an experiment in a real industrial workplace was conducted to attain a nuanced picture of the implementation of finding threats and vulnerabilities in industrial systems.

    In summary, there are a lot of different threats and vulnerabilities divided into categories and many tools are available to ensure the vulnerability. To conduct a test to find threats and vulnerabilities in an industrial enterprise, it needs to be ethically correct and the consequences carefully considered.

    The result of this thesis is a mapping and a demonstration of how threats and vulnerabilities are detected in an industrial workplace.

    This report analyzes the consequences of the proposed changes to the revenue framework presented in the report Ei R2017:07. The analysis is made for Mellersta Skånes Kraft, a small electricity grid company located in the countryside of Skåne county. The analysis presents investment proposals for future regulatory periods.

    Energimarknadsinspektionen controls electricity grid owners revenues by setting a revenue framework they are obligated to follow. The revenue framework is divided into regulatory periods that extends over four years, before each regulatory period the regulatory framework is reviewed. This can entail burdensome administrative work, especially for small electricity grid companies as they do not always have the time or resources to fully evaluate the consequences of the changes that are about to come.

    The analysis is based on Ei's proposal to change their determination of depreciation times, determination of WACC and their age determination of specific parts of the power grid.

    In the result, the revenue frame is presented for two investment options as well as for the existing electricity grid in selected areas in the MSK grid. The result shows that the revenue framework will fall considerably between the current and future regulatory period, much due to the companies’ WACC is expected to decrease and the proposal to abolish the 38-year rule.

    This report, will show by demonstration with Network Penetration, how to reveal security holes by using the same methods as an outside attack and carry out attacks against wired and wireless networks when it comes to sniffing user traffic, abuse VLAN, cracking password, WEP, WPA/WPA2, hacking WPS and analysing traffic.

    The tests was performed at the Halmstad University with lab equipment and at home with own equipment. Using Backtrack 5 R3 which is compatible with Linux, performance of the tests could be done by making use of various tools that comes with Backtrack.The goal of the project was to demonstrate how to reveal security holes by using the same methods as an outside attack. By testing, demonstrate and report the security of wired and wireless network, the achievement of these goals could be done and a greater insight into network security was gained, which gives more experience and knowledge that can be taken to a future professional life.

    The results show how simple it can be to abuse a network or sniff a password if there is no attention to the safety and the security configurations that can be implemented.In other words, during this project, both learning and demonstration has been done to show how vulnerable individuals, civilians and entrepreneurs are. It is easier than someone can imagine to obtaining unauthorized information that nobody wants to share out.

    Innovators lacking a well-developed business model will fail to either deliver, or capture, value from their innovations (Teece, 2010). Today’s virtual world is rapidly expanding and the Internet has enabled new ways of conducting business by facilitating electronic commerce (e-commerce) between business and consumer. Actors in the grocery industry have therefore changed their business models by developing new Internet grocery solutions Contributions to business model literature have increased significantly in recent years, but the majority have had a rather static view of the business model innovation process, disregarding that business model innovation is subject to change and should therefore be treated as a dynamic concept. Little efforts have been invested in describing the actual process by which business model innovations have been achieved. This study contributes to business model literature by exploring the process of business model innovation in three descriptive cases in two different organizational contexts in the Internet grocery industry in Sweden. With the 4I-framework by Frankenberger et al. (2013) as a foundation and the four dimensions of a business model (Who, What, How and Why) as a lens to perceive the business model the main findings of study is that as the dynamics of business model innovation in these two organizational context differs from each other, they are also different from how the 4Iframework describes the business model innovation process.
