Background:

By study the housing shortage in Sweden we know that more homes need to be built. Meanwhile, accordingly to previous studies the construction industry has been criticized when it comes to the quality of the buildings. Several studies have also shown that a company that work with quality in focus often leads to competitive advantages. Our interest in how leadership can influence quality has grown and therefore this study intends to study what impact the transformational leadership may have on the quality of new construction.

Research Question:

What influence/importance do a construction project managers transformational leadership have on the construction workers work performance and therefore the quality associated with new construction?

Purpose:

 

The purpose of this study is to create a framework that explains the construction project manager transformational leaderships importance of the quality in new construction. This framework is created in order to increase the awareness of the leadership’s importance of the quality in new construction, considered the performance of the construction workers.

Theoretical framework:

 

The theoretical framework in this study deals with project management, motivation and accomplishments, quality and finally the transformational leadership which consists four parts: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individual consideration.  

Method:

 

We have used a qualitative research method with an abductive approach. We collected our empirical data by interviewing six respondents from the construction industry.

Findings and Conclusions:

We have found that a construction project manager through various transformative behaviour’s can affect construction workers work performance and therefore the quality of the final construction.
