Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The number of patients seeking emergency departments in Sweden increases and therefore also the waiting time. The objective of this study was to describe patients´ perception of the nurse´s care in the emergency department. The study was conducted as a systematic literature review in which 16 scientific articles were included in the study´s results. The analysis resulted in three different themes: Attention, Communication, Nurse´s competence. The result showed that patients experience their first triage meeting as positive. The patients have a need for attention and to be seen. They feel they are treated with respect and that the nurse listens to their problems. During the waiting period the patients feel abandoned and forgotten and they lack information. They also experience that the nurse is professional in the line of work and instils trust and confidence. There is a need to increase the nurse´s knowledge and understanding of the patient´s need for a more personalized care in the emergency department. There is a need of further research about patients´ experience of the nurse´s care in the emergency department.
