Fatigue - in patient using hemodialysis (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Being affected by chronic kidney disease and being in need of dialysis treatment is a major change in the patient’s life. In Sweden there are about 1100 people who will develop renal disease and will require treatment. Many of the patients in need of haemodialysis suffer from fatigue. This fatigue is a tiredness that is not relieved by sleep. The purpose was to highlight fatigue and its impact on patients in haemodialysis. The study is based on a total of 17 scientific studies. Three used qualitative and 14 used quantitative methods. The results show that the majority of patients in haemodialysis suffer from this fatigue and that it has an impact on their daily life. Three categories emerged from the results: physical, mental and social impact. There is too little research focusing on fatigue in haemodialysis patients. The research which has been done is focused on patients with chronic renal disease. More research is needed in the area of fatigue in patients with haemodialysis.
