The balance between professional role and family role : how some male managers felt about connecting these roles (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to gain a deeper understanding of how some male managers felt about the balance between professional roles and family roles. The study was based on the following questions: How has the balance been like between family life and working life? How has parental leave taken? How has the role division been in the home? Methodological has a semi-structured interview method with a predetermined interview guide been used. The sample consisted of eight male managers in both the municipal and private sectors in Halmstad. Of the eight interviews there was one falling off. The interviews continued between 35-50 minutes. The results shows that the male managers felt that they had a relatively good balance between work and family. They said it was not easy to achieve this balance. Most managers felt that men with higher positions find it more difficult to find this balance between work and family. They have higher demands on there time and a greater burden of responsibility than other employees. The discussion concerned the following topics: Balance between work and family, parental leave, role conflict and role allocation.
