Abstract [sv]

Bredare forskning behövs i Sverige inom samtliga vårdgrenar.

Abstract [en]

In the healthcare approximately 60 % of the staff suffer from violence and threats in Sweden, which may affect the care that is conducted and the availability of it. The aim of this study was to illuminate how nurses deal with violence and aggression in the healthcare and to describe the responsibilities of the organization in the prevention of violence. The study was designed as a literature study in which 16 scientific papers were processed and summarized into three categories: organizational strategies to prevent violence, nurses’ strategies in violent situations and the impact of violence on nursing. The organization has the responsibility to educate its staff, including nurses. If nurses receive adequate training it may contribute to that violent situations are discovered in time and can be prevented.  The nurse's own experiences can also contribute to developing strategies that can be used in violent situations. If violence can not be managed there is a risk of negative effects on health care and the relationship between nurse and patient. A wider research is needed in Sweden in all healthcare disciplines. By highlighting the problem in the basic education for nurses, a basis could be created for nurses in their further education.
